When Leonard Cohen heard KD Lang sing his song in 2006, he said the song can be laid to rest now “because it’s been done to its ultimate blissful state of perfection”. He was very proud of KD’s version. Thanks for a great reaction to KD Lang. She has the voice of an angel. 👏👏🇨🇦
Two amazing Canadian artists. We have so many hidden talents north of your border but to humble to brag about it.. Sorry.
Thanks so much for sharing that….
Love your words…..
I did not know that, but I certainly agree with his statement. Her voice and state presence is unbelievable.
And also what needs to be said is that Leonard Cohen's body of work is so much more than Hallelujah...please explore, you won't be disappointed!
Hello (also) to all the KD fans, the best
You picked the BEST version! Leonard Cohen was asked to sing it and he said "Go ask KD Lang, it's her song now" ❤
An interesting fact on K.D’s 2010 Vancouver Olympics performance, she declined to complete her soundcheck and pre-show rehearsal. She is so incredibly confident in her abilities she didn’t need either, and you can hear that confidence in every note she gives the audience . She’s sings in such a way that her audience gets this amazing build up until she unleashes her full power and you are left in awe.
She is one of our under appreciate Canadian treasures.
K.D. is know for wanting to "save her voice " leading up to big performances. Going as far to only speaking in a whisper for days before. I believe the Opening Ceremony had a whole week at BC Place for full show rehearsal. So K.D.'s mic levels would have been set early in on. She probably spent most of the rehearsals just getting used to the elevated stage she was going to be on and just let a recording be played while she was walking through her spot.
This was the best I have ever seen this performed
I was at that ceremony in 2010. It was magical. Everybody was crying.
We live in Vancouver and we’re watching the opening ceremonies live. I’ve loved kd for years, but I was blown away by this performance. I still cry every time I watch it, it is breathtaking.
Totally agree. She’s incredible.
OMG Yes!!! I agree…💜
I can only imagine. Such a mix of emotions given the tragedy only hours earlier. Out here in Ontario, we were devastated by the news.
We decided as a family to see how the committee would handle such a heartbreaking start to those Olympics. Her performance, along with one of THE most amazing opening ceremonies I've ever seen, made us proud to be Canadian.
I do believe I've found my song when my time comes. Thank you. Merci. Mr. Cohen & Ms. K.D. @@joygernautm6641
I’m about 5 seconds into watching your reaction and already I’m thinking “just wait, bud. Just wait…” 😂 I’ve seen her perform this song live twice and the audience can barely breathe. She fills your every sense. And this performance was in a sports stadium, bear in mind. Not a concert hall. “God sent voice.” Yep 👍
that is what I do too on some of these reaction videos, ....just wait pal, it gets REALLY good a bit later. On songs like this and the Righteous Brothers, Bobby Hatfield live versions of Unchained Melody and Summertime.
Agreed , every time I've heard her sing ( from the early 80's on )
As a lesbian, this is a sham
I’m so envious of you! What a gift to you!
I saw her sing it live once and I too forgot to breathe. The whole audience kind of remembered to breathe at the end and then they all stood up and lost their minds, in the middle of the concert.
When K.D. Lang sings even the God’s cry.
She is a rare phenomenon - the beauty of her voice - there is just so much that can’t be defined except k.d. is a gift. Yet she is underrated. However, those of us who are blown away by her, we know how exceptional she is. Her voice has made me weep more than once. She’s a beautiful soul.
It's like she puts her arms around you and cradles the listener with her warmth and emotion. The feeling is exhilarating & overwhelming.
Great reaction, kd lang is so underrated. Phenomenal voice and person
Her peers don't under rate her one bit .
One Canadian legend singing the song of another Canadian legend!!
K D Lang is the best!!! Leonard Cohen, who wrote this song, after hearing her sing it, said she now owned the song.
The stadium held 60,000+, the majority of them athletes from around the globe. It was magical.
One of the best and one of the most underrated, female vocalists ever you have to see a very young k.d. lang on the Tonight Show singing three cigarettes in an ashtray you’ll never forget it
Johnny Carson turned to the audience with a gobsmacked look on his face and said, “that little girl can sing.” I cracked up. I don’t know if any Canadian (except maybe her mom) has ever thought of k.d as a “little girl.” But yeah, she could sing 👍😂
LMAO. Yeah...she can sing...just a little bit 😂@@karenm2669
I remember watching her sing this live at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and it was stunning to hear the breath leave the lungs of the 60,000 people in the stadium when she started into this. To say this performance was magical isn't doing it justice.
National treasure. So underrated and unknown to so many. Canada has vocalists.
So many.
International treasure!
K d lang is the female elvis Presley. Brilliant. Breath taking
I watched this live that night and I think she took us to church because an athlete was killed that morning during a practice run on a bobsled. It was so powerful coming from her.
And sung in her bare feet. So magically grounded🇨🇦❤️
It takes a person that has suffered… to be able to sing this song soooo beautifully.
The Highs the Lows are interpreted perfectly! ❤
Love KD Lang!
60,000 people and you could hear a pin drop in that stadium while she sang this! Captivating!
yeah, this is one of my favorite performances of all time. it's really powerful. she puts her own spin on this version. i can't watch this performance enough. glad u like it too.
No screeching, no harsh forced dip and hit high notes, no autotune crap she is pure talent and beauty and skill. Most the current singers female or male just do lazy or OK singing but they mass market themselves well and we acquiesces. That is the joy of your channel, it introduces us to new songs/artist and makes us look at well know sings/artist through another's eyes.
Never heard a better rendition of this song. Thank you Kd lang.
Thanks again, Pat…
I’d definitely recommend K.D.’s rendition(s) of Roy Orbison’s song “CRYING”.
Like I mentioned, there’s at least one live rendition of them performing it together, as well as the studio/MV, of course. And then lots of renditions of K.D. performing the song w/o Roy since his passing.
I LOVE her singing Crying.....she's an angel from heaven.😇
Now that's what I call interpreting the music. Watch her performance at the juno awards, when she wasn't outside in the cold air. She was even freer if you can believe it.
100% agree!!!
@@aerynoftalyn1307this was inside BC Place. Our football and event arena. The roof wasn't open that night 😉
Upon hearing KD Lang sing "Hallelujah", Leonard Cohen who wrote the song said that it was her song from that point on...her performance of the song at the 2005 Juno Awards in Winnipeg is intimate, powerful, and an emotional tour de force...
No Words. 🤔 But I am covered in goosebumps. KD. Is in a class of her own. 🇮🇪💚🍀
Remember this was in an arena with 50-60k excited fans. These opening ceremonies were fabulous but there was a sombre feeling that day as a Georgian luger was killed on a practice run. The silence to let her sing was awesome.
You have to hear KD singing Crying. She is a fabulous as always.
You should check her live tribute to Roy Orbison ("Crying") right after he passed. Absolute chills!
This is as close to perfection as you will ever get. I watched it live during the Olympics on TV with my mouth wide open. I truly envy the people who were in that building listening to this performance.
You have just heard the angels sing.
I will never forget this performance by K.D. Lang at the Olympics. Gives me chills every time. Leonard Cohen's original is stunning too. Thank you ❤
kd lang is a gift to all of us.
This version, this performance of this song is THE best "Hallelujah". My bf and I still talk about it every time this song comes up. It's literally unforgettable.
I just love the clearness and warmth in her voice. I've never seen this either. :)
Kd lang is the best female singer ever I love anything and everything she sings powerful voice great personality 💖
You had one of the most awesome reactions to this song. You actually showed your appreciation for a vocalist and how their voices are an instrument. That is why most people don't understand opera, they believe it is only for the elitists, but if you really truly love vocals as an instrument...Opera can leave you absolutely drained of emotion. Most people want the music to move them, but a voice, a single voice can move you just as much...May you stay safe and supported along your path.
This performance is live at a stadium. Leonard Cohen, the writer of the song, said this is the best permanent ever of Hallelujah
I’ve seen KD Kang live in concert three times, and she brings tears every single time!
Her voice is a gift from the Angels!
❤️❤️❤️
She in my book the best female vocalist of the last 30-40 years before her equally amazing
Karen Carpenter Honorable mention: Linda Ronstadt / Whitney Huston ......
You should listen to her Tribute to Roy Orbison, Crying. Power, absolutely powerful and emotional.
I've loved KD Lang since I was little, and seeing others fall in love with her voice is so amazing. Constant Craving was my soothing song as a little kid when I always turn to KD when I need to feel my feelings, feel comforted etc. She's a treasure
I'm so proud to have her from my country🇨🇦 gives me Goose bumps everytime
Her rendition of "Love for Sale" is so seductive and yet haunting!! Shes just amazing ive loved her voice since i was 6 years old
Black Coffee is just one song that is chilling by K.D. I also loved it when she was on the mag cover with a super model on her lap. That was awesome.
Hey, I got married in BANFF HOTEL 30 yrs ago, spent a week in Vancouver. We loved it so much. And this song is wonderful i love her work w/ Roy Orbison.,too.
She has a phenomenal voice. I will always remember her performance at the 2010 Olympics which brought so much emotion and tears. It was a very proud to be Canadian moment.
Her tribute to Roy Orbinson Crying is Amazing
This is the all-time best version 🍁 ! Thank You for this.
KD is an icon in the 🌈 community after coming out in 1992. Her most mainstream song in the US was Constant Cravings and is worth checking out.
One of the few vocal performances that can make me cry.
Watch her tribute to Roy Orbison when she sings crying ...
Goosebump time ❤
You need to listen to Sarah Mclachlan and Amanda Marshall from the nineties if you want to hear 2 more AMAZING Canadian voices!
Another great song that K.D. did was a duet with Roy Orbison. They sang "Crying" together. Amazing!
Other Canadian singers you may be interested in are: Gordon Lightfoot, Anne Murray, Burton Cummings, The Guess Who, Stan Rogers, Rita McNeil, Sarah McLaughlan, Tom Jackson, Buffy Ste. Marie, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Geddy Lee and Rush and many, many more.
This performance always feels like how I feel about Whitney’s performance of the US nation anthem. Both simply sublime. 💗
Great comments there guy
This song was written by another Canadian, Leonard Cohen, writer, performer, philosopher.
First time i saw her she was country punk and not a country fan she blew me away and i was hooked xxx im 67 today and im still hooked, she is Canadas National Treasure xxxxx
And oh by the way, she sang it before an olympic stadium full of people. She killed it before a hundred thousand people.
Plus everyone in the CBC TV Audience across Canada, were spellbound; and some watched it on NBC also, in the USA.
Great reaction.. I was lucky enough to be there that night and was very emotional as a luge athlete had died that day. I have seen her many times live and she is absolutely amazing each time and it stays with you. Leonard Cohen asked artists to stop recording this song after kd's rendition which he considered the consumate. Tony Bennett (RIP) said publicly that he considers her the best singer in history. They did many duets together. She has a very powerful voice but her most haunting singing happens when she is simply expressing emotion like the song Barefloot, and Wash me clean. Her most famous song is 'Constant Craving which she won a Grammy for (she has won 4). To hear the real power of her voice live you should watch her first performance on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson where she sings In Care of the Bues.. (she was also his favorite female singer) as well Bono, Elton John and many others rate her best
What a wonderful reaction...........................thank you !
You are so fun to watch
Also Gordon, Sarah, Alanis, Bruce, Joni, most of The Band, the Magarriles(sp), Randy Bachman, the Guess Who, etc, etc, grew up in the US and these artists were everywhere in the 60’s-2000’s.
Anything
Is incredible from KD Lang !
Absolutely love her, have seen her 5 times and she is so much more amazing live!! Deep dive for sure. ❤
Her voice is ANGELIC. What a gift. She is a Legend.
If you love great singers and epic performances... Have you seen Heart honoring Led Zeppelin by performing "Stairway to Heaven" at the Kennedy Center Honors?
I love your reaction she is wonderful isn't she. We are so proud of her I listen to her every night before bed. In my 60 years I am blessed to hear the most beautiful voice.🇨🇦❤
kd also, I'm sure, controls the number of beats in her vibrato. She is and has been, incredible for a long time. Thank you for reviewing this, one of her most fascinating versions of the song. But her technical control is matched by her emotional power and expression. I've been listening to this song for years and I still tear up.
How fucking dare Google to stick an ad in the middle of this song. Nothing is sacred to them I guess. Had the extreme pleasure of seeing KD twice, but neither time did she perform this. Loved your reaction, this song really gets inside you.
God bless Canadian music and culture.
What’s left of it 😢
Her singing Johnny get angry on Sat. night live cracked me up.
Listen to her doing Crying by Roy Orbison.
She is also a most Amazing and talented song writer ❤
She was part of a Roy Orbison Tribute where she sang Crying, there are a few videos of her do this song, but her live performance on 2/24/90 at Universal Amphitheatre is a virtuoso performance.
K.D is our Canadian treasure 🇨🇦.
I bought a CD of hers, in 1975. I absolutely love her voice!
Yes she was given approval by Leonard Cohen for this to be her song just like Roy Orbison did with Crying. They sang it in a duet once. She hase a pure voice. No theatrics special mics. She has duende.
Also as a Canadian Artist, as a dancer, as a gay man, as ........I love you. That's all. I love you.
I heard KD back in the late 90s early 20s and listened to her on the radio. Bought her tapes!! Tapes I say!! Thank you I haven’t heard from her in along time. Thanks.
Please check out her rendition of Crying...MTV unplugged. Outstanding!
WHAAAT…. HEYYY Pat!!
This just MADE MY DAY, Thank You!!
BTW! In 1993, K.D. performed a set of songs at the SAME Concert Of Hope that George Michael performed at. (You’ve reacted to several of George’s performances from this show.)
The appearance line-up for that show actually went:
Introduction by David Bowie
A set by George Michael
Then…
A set by K.D. Lang
(The concert finished w a short set by someone else after K.D., I’m just forgetting the name R N.)
She has always been underrated
Amazing woman
Love this...please react to her singing Crying solo..either Unplugged or at The Concert of Hope ..I experienced it live ..it was so powerful xx she is an incredibly nuanced as well as powerful singer xx
She has really good timing
She rocked
Fun fact. The Olympic committee actually asked Leonard Cohen to do this performance. He replied to them “Katie Lange does a version of my song that is much better than I could ever do it, you should hire her” and they did. And this happened.❤
For all the "Swifties" out there...This is how you do it, without all the production and overkill, all talent, no fluff.
YES
Chills. Every time.
K.D. is one of the greatest singers of the 20th century....and she's still with us in the 21st!
Need more KD. ❤❤❤
k.d. lang is just amazing and her rendition of this song, is the absolute best one out there. No one else even comes close. k.d. is an league all of her own. I love her voice.
Yes, yes. Praise His Holy Name.
KD Lang does a cover of a Joni Mitchell song. Sublime.
KD owns this song, an epic performance, absolutely unmatched!!! I wish you would have let the whole performance play before stepping in with commentary, it only got better and better.
Yup - I was there and she was amazing!
You say you love great vocals. I would love to watch you react to Patty Loveless, You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive, there is a great live version on TH-cam, when she was in her prime. Its moving and her vocals are pure and powerful.
Love your reaction, man! This is one of the most beautiful renditions of any song ever. She’s got the voice of an Angel 🩵
❤❤❤ our girl .
Listen to her collaboration with Roy Orbison on the song "Crying". Amazing album too, called Shadowland, and Drag, so many songs by her are amazing. She collaborated with Tony Bennett as well.
Another a Canadian artist with a phenomenal voice is Dallas Green of City And Colour, particularly his cover of Alice in Chains “Rain When I Die “.
Not bad for a little country girl from Alberta, Canada!!😊
