I LOVE these videos, I was involved in a motorcycle wreck 40 yrs ago, spent many months in the ICU then another hospital and rehab. unit and after 1 yr and 9 mos only to hear, we've done all we can, taught how to be handicapped, wheeled to the door and told goodbye. The reason why I'm sharing that is to tell you that "yes, the doctors put the pieces back together, but 'they' don't heal GOD does", in all HIS wisdom, he gave us a brain that is able to rewire itself and through these exercises we are able to stimulate the areas of the brain that aren't functioning as they were designed.
After 40 yrs I am no longer in a wheelchair and at 60 I'm looking for more normalcy.
These videos are paramount to the road to health, I have been doing some leg exercises but I studied mechanical engineering and not physical therapy and find myself saying "I'm doing that wrong" a lot, these videos are the gauge that my recovery needed.

My legals suffer muscular cramps in my leg and arm that wake me up at night from sleep. Mind you the leg is also heavy toilet up when the cramps attack . It's so painfully that tears just roll from eyes. Is this normal during stroke tobecin so muchbpains?

Excited to report that at 3 yrs out from cva ihita walking speed (with cane) of 3 mph. When I left inpatient docs were skeptical about recovery potential "don't expect much" and VA cut off therapy at 12 mos. I've stuck to my +attitude and daily low rigor but constant test of my limits and exercise to improve mindset, and I can walk 3mph now. Prior to stroke walked 4.5mph, I was a hustler. But 3 is good for now! Better every day, relax, breathe, relax completely, pour your mind and heart into your work, go for it! Do your best! Thank you doctor Tobias, you are a gem of great worth! APPRECIATE!

I've spent several hours over the past 2 days watching your videos and putting myself through the paces and I have to say you are a godsend. The information you provided is more relevant to my condition than 80% of what I was told and not told. I'm the type of person who needs to know "why" in order to commit to something and your explanations are very precise and easy to understand. Thank you so very much!

Hi Tara. Thank you for these videos on 'heavy leg' . You've given me a different perspective. I think I had started to take my brain for granted. I've gone back to looking at my brain and how it operates! Even 7 years on, I am still progressing. It's easy to forget how far I have come since losing everything on my left side. Anyone reading this, stroke recovery is a work in progress. Keep going, even when you think you can't!

A year after stroke and many months of therapy I was just released from therapy being told I was not going to recover further and I just need to accept the fact and that I would no longer be able to run. I am learning new things from these videos I did not cover in therapy. I am starting my own therapy at home having wasted so much time in therapy. I could not sleep after being discharged from therapy. I basically felt abandoned but I am finding comfort and confidence in these videos. Thank you so much.

Dissociation...that is the word. Had an ischemic stroke back in Feb 24 and have felt this many times.
That the unaffected right side is mimicking the affected left side.
As of now I'm walking but have plateaued a bit...just trying to get the hitch out of my gait.
Thank you for confirming that suspicion!
And abnormal movement patterns is a biggie.
Tried the sitting and step-stool exercise (have a step ladder in my bedroom specifically for stuff like this).
You can really feel the "burn" during this one...can feel tightness right down the front of my lower leg above the ankle.
    Which I wasn't feeling before...guessing that's good.
Been looking for a video on this forever!
    Thanks again, Dr. Tara

Great suggestion. It would help me to know, is it more helpful to organize them by body part (ie: al hip exercises in one playlist), or by "problem" (ie: spasticity, stroke neglect, stroke weakness, walkiing problems). I appreciate any feedback you might have for this :)

    • @shawnainthekitchen8011
      @shawnainthekitchen8011 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Tara. My suggestion would be to do it by body part because sometimes people can't adequately describe what's wrong, but they know where the problem is occurring. For example, I didn't know anything about spasticity but I knew that something was wrong with my arm.

Thanks Tara for another useful video. It’s funny how you described the stroke knee as “going out” when bending. My foot goes outward but the knee leans inward and at the moment I can’t prevent that happening. I’m gonna get myself a skateboard to help slide my leg forwards and backwards. I’m 64 so I can tell the grandchildren that I’m getting a skateboard and hope that they never ask me to “show them my moves”. I think they’ll be underwhelmed.

Your videos are truly superb, Dr. Tobias! You possess very special talents in your teaching methods, by carefully presenting the material in a slow pace, while gracefully emphasizing certain words combined with a masterful proficiency of the English language!

Hello Dr Tobias, I am so delighted watching your videos I have a stroke 2 1/2 years ago, 08/02/2018. I can walk but my right shoulder going down to my arms and legs are still feeling heavy tight and sometimes moves involuntarily. I cannot use my right hand for doing what I want to do because of tightness, cannot drive and cannot use my hand to write. I cannot stay standing for a long period of time because of heaviness I feel so tired and feeling stretching all over my affected side of the body. I felt relaxed only when i lay down as I cannot feel the heaviness. Hopefully this exercise can help me, is there any best exercise for my heavy arms? Thank you and looking forward to hear some ideas from you. GOD BLESS
