Hi Tara, thanks for your continued perseverance to help everyone! I am left side paralyzed from a stroke. I still walk; with the dreaded hemi-walker. To this point, my left leg trouble is not being able to bend the leg backward at the knee(or slide foot back isolated at the knee);also, unable to rotate left foot side to side. But I can stand and bear weight on the left leg and step forward (from the hip).

  • @JLP72517
    @JLP72517 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi Tara, I really could relate to your explanation of how the leg lift exerciser works.
My problem is caused by a tear in my hip labrum, that I didn’t discover til I had an MRI 2 years afterwards. I feel I have spasticity even though I don’t believe I have brain or spinal cord trauma.
Do you believe that in my case these same exercises are the best? Wondering if I can expect to ever walk with the freedom of not having to be conscious of making sure that my leg is moving forward.
It is especially hard going up stairs with a 6” or more riser.

Thank you Dr.Tara, very helpful! This is such a huge issue for many of us, a second part would be awesome... basically we use these movements everywhere. Getting in the car, in the shower, walking upstairs.. Would it be possible to show some exercises without the core max (I don't have it) for lifting the leg seated and while standing. Please keep doing videos on gait training, if you can. Maybe limping would be a good future topic. Thank you so much 😊

Excellent! My question revolves around post stroke and paralysis of the abs associated w hip flexion. I find I can’t flex my hip without bending forward at the waist and recruiting abs. I’ve been training hip flexions standing while holding a pull up bar to prevent trunk flexion. I can lift my thigh higher than ever now, but can’t seem to transfer it to cane waking?

I know there's already a video on leaning to one side, but I don't think forward-leaning has been addressed yet. I am bent over when I walk, despite training my core all the time. Any advice? Is this hamstring tightness or calf spasticity or back weakness? Thank you!

Hey Dr. Tara, I've been watching your videos for a while and wanted to say thank you, and ask for help regarding my condition. For the past 3 years I have had stage 4 glioblastoma affecting my entire left side; little control over arm and leg, swelling in foot as well as 0 dorsal flexion, and gait problem due to leading with right side while using a walker. Do you think any of your videos are beneficial for my condition? And is it possible to get in contact with you 1 on 1? Thanks for bringing this topic up again! Early in recovery it is extremely common to ask questions like this. As you get further out, I think I would say the answer to this questions lies in reflecting on the deeper thought that lead to this question. I highly recommend the book the You Are The Placebo by Joe Despenza. I just started reading it and it is very insightful and may hold the answer to your question.

However, hoping new foot doctor will evaluate for rocker shoes (as PT suggested) ...but the locked leg is relatively new after sitting too much during Covid. Have made progress with hips but the glutes on the affected side don't fire well...combined with stiffness in the ankle/bad toe. EEK! Thanks Dr. Tara for some more great info and exercises. I’m finding it so difficult to engage the abdominals, laying down or standing. Can do hip rotations but lifting leg flexed so hard to do!

Hi Dr. Tara, I have been watching you religiously, and I thank you! No one has been able to help me with the stiff leg. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclorosis 25 years ago. Now all of the sudden my leg has started giving me problems when I am walking at different times during the day. I do not experience pain, just problems when I am walking, and it doesn't last long at all, maybe 10mins, and then walking normalizes. I also work out without any problems... please help.
    Dalila

How can I strengthen my leg from the hip to the foot?? Severe foot drop and nerve damage in the entire leg up to the lower back. Laminectomy with fusion L2L3L4L5.
My entire leg is beginning to atrophy.
    Should I see a neurologist??
I have been through three courses of PT.
    Any thoughts??

Hello dr. I am krishnan from CHENNAI India. I survived a brain hemorrhage in 2020 resulted in hemiplegia affecting my left side, was unable to perform exercises regularly duo to lock down that resulted in very slow recovery I watch your videos and practice most of the exercises and could see significant improvement in walking and hand movements. Though i walk daily my knee is not bending while walking and my leg makes a small swing
I would like to know on how to fix this. Really appreciate your time and effort. You are doing a great job please keep it going.

I'm confused about something: you say a lot that the cane reinforces bad neuroplasticity..but if I walk without my cane (which I technically can do), I walk badly..bad pattern and form. Wouldnt that encourage bad relearning?? My physio said I should use my cane to encourage a more normal walking pattern to be learned. Im very confused. Please help!

Hi Dr. Tobias, If I put the Coremax up against a wall then the pedals hit the wall. Should I turn the Coremax around? Also I cannot lift my leg high enough to get it on the pedal. I can self assist while sitting but I don't have the balance to do so while standing. Lastly does the coremax help accomplish the repetitions needed for marching?
    Thanks, your videos are great!

I bought a life Pro and when I got it there were scratches on it like it was used and I could swear I used your link. But anyways can a person get there leg cut off below their knee and get an artificial leg and foot? I'm just wondering this because I have no problems with anything except the foot drop. And it's caused me a lot of injuries and now my stomach and legs in feet and hands cramps really bad. Really pisses me off most every day and I can only smoked so much indica stop the stress

After my stroke 4 years ago I requested euthanasia but was denied by the hospital psychiatrist who said he would not want to live like that either. So I worked hard at therapy for 2 years until I got well enough to get my own place to get free of the tyranny of group homes. I still wish I was dead, as I lived a great 64 years and life is all work now. Do not give me pity or encouragement. We treat animals better!

Hi I had a sci in jan 2017 and I took my first steps in sept 2017. However due to not having the right input i.e. neuro physio I have been mobilising since then with the left lower limb significantly affected with spasticity! Question is will I be able to reverse the way in which my leg now moves with correct input and exercises? Question is open to anybody who feels they may have an answer

Hi Dr Tara, I had a stroke 6 months ago and while everyone tells me I’m making good progress, a persistent problem with my stroke leg is that the circulation is poor, causing my foot and ankle to be colder than the good leg, also having less feeling. Have you done a video on circulation and have I missed it. By the way, I can’t believe how many of the problems you deal with are exactly what I suffer with, You’re the best. Thanks.

My legs get stiff when stretched out straight on the bed. With a pillow under the knees, bending the knees is easier. Your comments, please.
