Hi Michelle! Your comment was the inspiration for this one. :) I realized that I didn't give solutions for this problem in the "gait drills". Thanks for being willing to share your specific problems!! It helps me to help others :) I hope it helps you!
Thanks and God bless Dr. Tara. I had a mini stroke weeks ago and 2 days ago, i got this intense shoulder and full left body cramp, i couldnt stand up.. I did accupresure and hail mary prayers deeply helped and i would love to incorporate your exercises in strengthening my body. I get to understand my body more through health sessions like yours.. Thank you very much for imparting your expertise here in youtube.. Grateful for youtube.. I cannot afford sessiona like this on a traditional basis as i currently suffer financially due to paternal abuses.. God bless TH-cam. I pray for more conscience centered advertisers abd financial supporters for TH-cam and conscientious youtubers..
Thanks and God bless you Dr Tara. I'm a polio patient on my right leg, and suffer a stroke. Now am trying to walk again , having problems. How do I go about it.
Thank you Dr.Tara, very helpful! This is such a huge issue for many of us, a second part would be awesome... basically we use these movements everywhere. Getting in the car, in the shower, walking upstairs.. Would it be possible to show some exercises without the core max (I don't have it) for lifting the leg seated and while standing. Please keep doing videos on gait training, if you can. Maybe limping would be a good future topic. Thank you so much 😊
Hi Andrea. Thanks for watching and for sharing your valuable insights! Yes, it seems that many have the issues that you mention. I will definitely keep this in mind for future videos 😊
Thank you for this valued information I have a stiff left hip and I would like to be able to walk properly, if u can do a video on people with such problems I will be very appreciative
Hi Delia! Thanks for watching and for sharing your story. You can type " rehab hq and stiff leg" into the youtube search bar and some of the videos I have done on this topic should come up. I hope that helps!
Hi Tara, thanks for your continued perseverance to help everyone! I am left side paralyzed from a stroke. I still walk; with the dreaded hemi-walker. To this point, my left leg trouble is not being able to bend the leg backward at the knee(or slide foot back isolated at the knee);also, unable to rotate left foot side to side. But I can stand and bear weight on the left leg and step forward (from the hip).
Hi "half warrier"! Thanks for watching and for sharing your story. I think I need to do an update on this problem very soon. It seems to be coming up a lot recently. Stay tuned!
Always look forward to Sunday when new videos released. Had a pelvic floor repair done end of May and on advice of consultant am not doing much physio for the next 6 weeks until he has seen me. So until then he said to do loads of walking but I will definitely be bumping upmy repetitions after😉 At least I have all the videos saved in the meantime. The new logo and name is lovely 👌
Thanks Dr. Tara for some more great info and exercises. I’m finding it so difficult to engage the abdominals, laying down or standing. Can do hip rotations but lifting leg flexed so hard to do!
Great refresher video Dr. Tabias. Even though I think I have graduated from a certain exercise, I have found and as you have stated, practice, practice, practice. Thank you, as always for your valuable time.
Hi Teresa! Glad to see you in the comments again this week! I am so glad to know that you have graduated from most of these exercises! You might not be where you want to be, but look how far you have come. 😊
Thank you, Dr Tobias, this video has been an eye opener for me. The point you made about our focus point is great i.e. focusing while walking on lifting the leg, bending the knee ect, could be causing the spasticity to kick in. You mentioned that we need to focus on relaxing the leg and knee. I've been doing that the past couple of days and have noticed a big difference, thank you once again for your insight
Hello dr. I am krishnan from CHENNAI India. I survived a brain hemorrhage in 2020 resulted in hemiplegia affecting my left side, was unable to perform exercises regularly duo to lock down that resulted in very slow recovery I watch your videos and practice most of the exercises and could see significant improvement in walking and hand movements. Though i walk daily my knee is not bending while walking and my leg makes a small swing I would like to know on how to fix this. Really appreciate your time and effort. You are doing a great job please keep it going.
Hi Dr Tara, I had a stroke 6 months ago and while everyone tells me I’m making good progress, a persistent problem with my stroke leg is that the circulation is poor, causing my foot and ankle to be colder than the good leg, also having less feeling. Have you done a video on circulation and have I missed it. By the way, I can’t believe how many of the problems you deal with are exactly what I suffer with, You’re the best. Thanks.
💜🌸💜 Super exercises, Dr. Tara! I do them regularly while in bed morning and evening at the recommendation of my PT here in Germany. In the beginning, the leg stiffened and stretched out with spastics. But with the months, the muscles build up and spastics reduces. Now it is easy and almost not any more in a side angle. It's just repetition and sticking to it. It gets better over time and it so much helps the walking practices. Many greetings to you and to doggie Chico! 🌸💜🌸
Hi Tara, I really could relate to your explanation of how the leg lift exerciser works. My problem is caused by a tear in my hip labrum, that I didn’t discover til I had an MRI 2 years afterwards. I feel I have spasticity even though I don’t believe I have brain or spinal cord trauma. Do you believe that in my case these same exercises are the best? Wondering if I can expect to ever walk with the freedom of not having to be conscious of making sure that my leg is moving forward. It is especially hard going up stairs with a 6” or more riser.
I have a stiff leg while walking. Have MS (multiple sclerosis) since 2007. While walking it sounds like when a diver comes from the sea and stamps down with his flippers. Any advice on that??? thank you in advance :D
Dr Tara can these exercises be done without the machine? Can resistance bands be used, Can you do some examples with the bands if they can be used? Thanks 😊
Just found ur video I’m praying you see my comment I have issues with walking forward with my left leg not cooperating my knee locks up and than my high muscles seize up . This started six years ago with a slight length and it progressed from there I have seen many doctors No one knows why this is happening. I’ve been tested for MS and do not have it , also I have not had a stroke . I really need some advice please 🙏🏼 ❤
Excellent! My question revolves around post stroke and paralysis of the abs associated w hip flexion. I find I can’t flex my hip without bending forward at the waist and recruiting abs. I’ve been training hip flexions standing while holding a pull up bar to prevent trunk flexion. I can lift my thigh higher than ever now, but can’t seem to transfer it to cane waking?
Hi Dr. Tara, I have been watching you religiously, and I thank you! No one has been able to help me with the stiff leg. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclorosis 25 years ago. Now all of the sudden my leg has started giving me problems when I am walking at different times during the day. I do not experience pain, just problems when I am walking, and it doesn't last long at all, maybe 10mins, and then walking normalizes. I also work out without any problems... please help. Dalila
Hi, thanks for all the work that you doing to help and improve patient's wellbeing. I would like to join your channel for professionals, but I can't find the link. Please if possible, share :)
Fantastic video. Could I make a small request for a video? One on fixing leaning FORWARD when you walk. I know there's already a video on leaning to one side, but I don't think forward-leaning has been addressed yet. I am bent over when I walk, despite training my core all the time. Any advice? Is this hamstring tightness or calf spasticity or back weakness? Thank you!
I have this same issue....and leg lymphedema to complicate it. I am using UpWalker and trying to rise up little by little, unknown cause possible spondy or similar. Please do make this video if at all possible....thanks so much, you are wonderful!
I cannot bring my leg into the car, lifting from the foot, knee. I have to move my leg by hand. I have had ms for 30 years and this is a. Problem for me. Thank you
Hello Dr.Tobias I am going to have spine surgery on my c3c4, I am in Jacksonville Florida,my gait is very bad I am 69 first time having any kind of surgery and just found out I have cerebral palsy,on my right leg I thought I had polio from birth the problem is my left leg stiffness and heavy, balance issues too,can you recommend a good physical therapist in Jacksonville
After my stroke 4 years ago I requested euthanasia but was denied by the hospital psychiatrist who said he would not want to live like that either. So I worked hard at therapy for 2 years until I got well enough to get my own place to get free of the tyranny of group homes. I still wish I was dead, as I lived a great 64 years and life is all work now. Do not give me pity or encouragement. We treat animals better!
Hi Dr, How can I improving strengthen my back and right leg because I can't stand for long or walk a long distance. Please help me with some exercises. Thanks its Olivia. I wish you are in Maryland.
Back surgery 20 years ago left me with a damanged nerve and lost muscle. On the same side, a bad toe (2 surgeries) so I don't have a good gait. However, hoping new foot doctor will evaluate for rocker shoes (as PT suggested) ...but the locked leg is relatively new after sitting too much during Covid. Have made progress with hips but the glutes on the affected side don't fire well...combined with stiffness in the ankle/bad toe. EEK! Without a machine, can you use a infatable ball to step on and then relax up??
Hi, Dr. The leg arch seem to be higher compare to the uneffected one. I noticed after stroke. Can you recommend more exercise in this? If leave up leg on toe while sitting on the chair, the leg will shake when coming down fully flat. May I know why? I have try to search in the net, doesn't help. What exercise can help to stop the shakiness?
How to lift hyperflexia in the knees There are no problems in the spine or spinal cord. We did not find a diagnosis for the cause of the problem. I am in 34
Hey Dr. Tara, I've been watching your videos for a while and wanted to say thank you, and ask for help regarding my condition. For the past 3 years I have had stage 4 glioblastoma affecting my entire left side; little control over arm and leg, swelling in foot as well as 0 dorsal flexion, and gait problem due to leading with right side while using a walker. Do you think any of your videos are beneficial for my condition? And is it possible to get in contact with you 1 on 1? I am in California, though I wish it were Florida so I could come into your clinic personally!
Hi Dr. Tobias, If I put the Coremax up against a wall then the pedals hit the wall. Should I turn the Coremax around? Also I cannot lift my leg high enough to get it on the pedal. I can self assist while sitting but I don't have the balance to do so while standing. Lastly does the coremax help accomplish the repetitions needed for marching? Thanks, your videos are great!
Thanks for the good tips, these hip exercises with a bent knee, as well as the standing variant of help when lifting a leg with a bent knee, look very good to me because those muscles are still weak. I think that's exactly what I need. Thanks, have a nice day.
This is a great video!! Thanks! I'm having a hard time keeping my foot planted on the bed when doing the knee/ hip exercises. Also putting weight on my affected side, keeping my foot on the ground while trying to walk is very difficult. Could this be from spasticity in my hip?
Hi Dr Tobias I would usually get a stiff leg for instance if I go for eg to the doctors office or somewhere I have to sit for a while. How could I improve this.
Dear Dr Tobias I’ve been watching you for a while and love how you explain things. I have a seemingly opposite movement issue. When I go downstairs my affected leg pulls to the center but on the recumbent bike my leg pulls outward. Why……..??????
I bought a life Pro and when I got it there were scratches on it like it was used and I could swear I used your link. But anyways can a person get there leg cut off below their knee and get an artificial leg and foot? I'm just wondering this because I have no problems with anything except the foot drop. And it's caused me a lot of injuries and now my stomach and legs in feet and hands cramps really bad. Really pisses me off most every day and I can only smoked so much indica stop the stress
Hello Dr Tara I have a child who is 12 years old and she cannot stand or walk by her self.I saw some of your excercises for the hips legs and ankle. Are there machines for these excercises that you can recommend for her to excercise on.I would be very grateful to hear from you.God bless you I think I have found my child cure. Please reply as soon as you can.Thank you.
Thank you for watching and for this question! If I use a product in a video (and it is something they sell on Amazon) you can find a link for it in the description of that video. I hope that helps!
I'm confused about something: you say a lot that the cane reinforces bad neuroplasticity..but if I walk without my cane (which I technically can do), I walk badly..bad pattern and form. Wouldnt that encourage bad relearning?? My physio said I should use my cane to encourage a more normal walking pattern to be learned. Im very confused. Please help!
How can I strengthen my leg from the hip to the foot?? Severe foot drop and nerve damage in the entire leg up to the lower back. Laminectomy with fusion L2L3L4L5. My entire leg is beginning to atrophy. Should I see a neurologist?? I have been through three courses of PT. Any thoughts??
hey u r such an amazing person.i have a query.i m suffering from multiple sclerosis.my left leg is vry weak.i do physio daily from 6mnths.bt recovery is not there .only minor improvememts are there.whereas other people in clinic that are haemiplegic.they recover vry fast nd becime able to walk again.i am scared can i get recover or not.can multiple sclerosis peiple get their walk back or they can only maintain where ever they are.
Hi I had a sci in jan 2017 and I took my first steps in sept 2017. However due to not having the right input i.e. neuro physio I have been mobilising since then with the left lower limb significantly affected with spasticity! Question is will I be able to reverse the way in which my leg now moves with correct input and exercises? Question is open to anybody who feels they may have an answer
Thanks Dr. Tara. You deserve a humanitarian award for the work that you do.
Thanks Lynette! I hope this one helps you 😊

Thanks Dr. for this video
Dr Tobias I'm 3 years post stroke injury, why does my involved leg has the amount of tone it has like moving uncontrollably at times.
This is a great video!! Thanks! I'm having a hard time keeping my foot planted on the bed when doing the knee/ hip exercises. Also putting weight on my affected side, keeping my foot on the ground while trying to walk is very difficult. Could this be from spasticity in my hip?

I'm confused about something: you say a lot that the cane reinforces bad neuroplasticity..but if I walk without my cane (which I technically can do), I walk badly..bad pattern and form. Wouldnt that encourage bad relearning?? My physio said I should use my cane to encourage a more normal walking pattern to be learned. Im very confused. Please help!
Where can I buy that tool?
My knee is really stiff, how can I relax my knee
How can I strengthen my leg from the hip to the foot?? Severe foot drop and nerve damage in the entire leg up to the lower back. Laminectomy with fusion L2L3L4L5.
