    Homemade Hydraulic 20 Ton shop press pressing out front wheel drive wheel bearing from 1996 Honda / Acura Integra front knuckle / spindle. The Hydraulic bottle jack is a 20 Ton Mastercraft from Canadian Tire. You can buy a real nice 20 ton shop press from Harbor Freight Tools for $199. I don't know if that is with the bottle jack but if it is the price is amazing because this jack alone costs around $50 Canadian. If you can afford to go with a 20 ton bottle jack do it because it makes such a big difference vs the 12 ton especially if you deal with a lot of rusted parts with corrosion.
    The material in the press is 2" square mild steel tubing welded in all the corners.

    Hey man thx for subscribing to me. I don't have many vids, but I really dig your press. I just did a bearing change on my Altima and was looking into building my own press. My pops is a steel guy so I'm going to have him make me a frame. Anyway thanks for the ideas.

      Sam Ratliff Thanks for watching, post back how it works out, just make sure you get all the tubes square to each other and it will work great for you i'm sure :) I just went and watched some of the rzr videos with people using wood and hammers so Im sure this will work much easier :)

      singlecams The piece of pipe you are using on top of the hub looks thin in the video. Is that a piece of exhaust pipe?

    • @singlecams
      @singlecams  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sam Ratliff Hi no it is 3.5" x 1/8 thick tubing, you need to measure your bearing carrier and then you can by tubing with the right inside diameter that will fit on it and let the bearing pass through, if you go on website like metalsdepot , click > round tube>steel round tube DOM> then you will see tubing listed with an out diameter and inner , if you cant find something in dom tubing go back and click >pipe>steel pipe>.
      Once you find the material with right dimension you can go to local supplier and see if they will cut you a small piece.
      You might be able to find exhaust tube but they are thin like 1/16 and if your bearing is tight like the one in the video it might just buckle it

    • @simpleman0831
      @simpleman0831 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      singlecams Yeah, I knew it couldn't be exhaust tubing but it just looked thin in the video. Thanks for all of the info.

    pretty slick far better than beating the bearing with a hammer for hoursI don't even bother doing that any more I just take the knuckle to a machine shop which has a 50 ton pressmakes pretty quick work of this. Very functional cost effective press though

    • @singlecams
      @singlecams  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +69chargerforever I have one I was trying to get the bearing out last week and it is rusted solid and just will not move and i can see the frame bending so I let off. I had to even cut the snap ring out. I'm going to try to beat on it and see if it will budge and give it another go. If it moves a little bit then we are good to go I will take some video lol.

    • @69chargerforever
      @69chargerforever 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +singlecams do you think it would work to get some heat on the knuckle with some pressure on the bearing? I also thought about doing the thermal shock method but I don't know ho well old cast would take that I will be watching for your next video

    • @singlecams
      @singlecams  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +69chargerforever I had a chance to try it today, I didn't want to use my mapp gas torch inside because all the oil and grease is going to smell but then I forgot the press is just a frame and I can carry it outside lol. I will edit the video and upload it and send you a message.

I will try to get you a video next week. Thanks.

    • @singlecams
      @singlecams  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi i will just copy this from comment below, thanks for watching and check out the latest video, made some fet for it made a big difference
      th-cam.com/video/WW5lf4z7wus/w-d-xo.html
      hi it is 2x2 square steel tube, use 3/16 thick at least if you can weld that. The outside dimensions are 21" tall x 18" wide...but you can change that if you need to put something bigger for your needs. The jack is a 20 ton (if you can buy 20 ton buy it over the 12ton it makes big difference) . and you need to use some thick steel plates to protect the tubing you can see in this video closer , they don't have to be welded all around but just tacked in so they don't fall out, it will protect the tubing from getting dented

      +Christopher Cantwell hi it is 2x2 square steel tube, use 3/16 thick at least or 1/4" thick if you can weld that. The outside dimensions are 21" tall x 18" wide...but you can change that if you need to put something bigger for your needs. • @singlecams
      @singlecams  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheBikemaster94 cheaper just to get another used spindle with good bearing. I have another spindle here a 89 civic and the bearing won't come out at all with this setup but it's rusted solid

    what did you make the sleve out of let me know and did you use the 3/4 bearing i told you about thanks bro

    • @singlecams
      @singlecams  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +pedro rodriguez you need to measure your wheel bearing and then go to metal store and pick the right size tubing with the right inner diameter. I will tell you that it is almost impossible to pull that bearing you see in the video using sleeve and screw like you see in south main video with OTC puller because we use salt in Ontario Canada and even a 20 ton press is just barely enough to remove that bearing no way impact wrench and screw will pull it.

    • @singlecams
      @singlecams  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you. the bottle jack was most expensive part in canada that thing was like $70 but same thing in usa I think is around $30 then the steel was around I think $30 I welded this but yu can get someone to weld it up for like $20 I would think. So in USA they have those harbor freight 20 ton press and it is around $169 but same thing in canada is at least $300 so price it all out before you make any decisions. Please check out the new video of it in action it is well worth it for me. th-cam.com/video/WW5lf4z7wus/w-d-xo.html

    Hey,
    Theres a video of a guy who made a similar tool using a 10 or 12 ton (cant remember) hydraulic punch driver from harbour freight. I live in cold salty land too. Do you think that'd be enough force for a rusty subaru rear press fit bearing?
    Thanks for the video.

    • @singlecams
      @singlecams  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi you just never know with the rusted stuff I wouldn't bother with the 10. Please see this , no way the little 10 or even 12 going to get that out th-cam.com/video/WW5lf4z7wus/w-d-xo.html but if 10 or 12 is your budget then give it a shot

    • @singlecams
      @singlecams  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      is yours a press fit bearing or its a bolt on bearing because I watched that and this th-cam.com/video/fwHLNsHomkE/w-d-xo.html and it seems there is 2 designs. I watched the link u sent and the way he pulled the axle out so he could use the puller right on the car if you want to do that way you should first check if those suspension bolts comes loose because around here everything rusts and usually those suspension bolts are the first thing to rust inside the bushing and get seized and if you use a long breaker bar they can sometimes snap the heads off(I dont have experience with subaru but it happens on hondas) if you have a impact wrench you can try it and see if they come out sometimes impact works better on seized stuff. the porta power he has some spacers he machined so I guess it is no good unless you have a lathe. I think the 12ton could possibly do it because that bearing comes out in pieces and you only have the outer race stuck in vs the honda ones that are a big one piece sealed bearing

    • @singlecams
      @singlecams  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just watched it and yeah that is a big job especially if you dont have a impact wrench thats the problem with these videos you see all these guys on the sunny coast and you think you can do that too lol. This is why I anti seize everything that I take off and put back so even that bolt if you manage to take it out make sure you puts anti seize on it and next time everything will just come apart with handtools. Like a bottle is $12 at canadian tire

    • @singlecams
      @singlecams  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking the whole knuckle would flop down if you undid the shock bolts have a look and see and you should be able to maybe remove the axle that way too...but i have no experience with this car. but not 100% sure. you might have to remove the sway bar link if it is stopping the arm from fully dropping down

    • @singlecams
      @singlecams  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ohh never mind it doesnt appear the knuckle pivots that way unless you remove the most lower bolt

    • @singlecams
      @singlecams  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most real presses come with cast arbor plates so even if you buy a "well designed" press for $200-300 you should spend the extra $160 to buy steel plates so they don't explode in your face like this www.google.ca/search?dcr=0&biw=1920&bih=970&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=FK-FWpuNKovYjwSz1JPoBA&q=cracked+press+arbor+plate&oq=cracked+press+arbor+plate&gs_l=psy-ab.3...6466.7897.0.8208.6.6.0.0.0.0.81.403.6.6.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..0.0.0....0.4Hy5MXe4LKI#imgrc=XUL6MuuspQ3o0M: Good thing there is nothing that will explode on a homemade "unsafe" press!

      just convert us dollars into anything else and see how expensive that is. not everyone lives in the usa and for sure not everyone lives by a habor frieght. Go across the border to Canada and the same $150 would easily be $250+ for a 12ton
