    Since I'm interested in becoming a multilingual tour guide in my city, I look at the statistics for tourists that visit here and what their national languages are. Brazilians are #9 in the list, so I'm considering learning Portuguese someday. And Brazilian Portuguese sounds fun. Furthermore, having learned some Spanish, I think I can learn Portuguese really easily--maybe just from podcasts (BrazilianPodClass).

      Much words are similar but not identical. As a brazilian i can understand most of what spanish speakers say if they speak slowly and I think it goes for most of us.

    • @otavio.a.8.r
      @otavio.a.8.r 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Quite similar, but different in terms of being difficult to understand at times. In general, it is easier for Brazilians to understand Spanish than for those who speak Spanish understand Portuguese. And of course there are some dangerous words that mean different things in each language.

    • @otavio.a.8.r
      @otavio.a.8.r 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Δt0mix Yeah, I also think that both are really similar. Although a lot of native speakers of Spanish often say that it's hard to understand Portuguese. Once a Peruvian friend talk me that we have the habit to abbreviate words, some times for one syllable (e.g. você -> ce/se). Another factor people frequently say is that we tend to change the sounds of some letters or cut them during the natural speech (Leite - > leiti; eu vou > eu vo, but it depends on the accents of each region.

    I've heard that before about Spanish. To me, it has a beautiful syncopation, not unlike Japanese. Of all the major languages, seems to me Brazilian Portuguese is the strangest sounding. We seldom hear it in the US. It's a beautiful language though, like a combination of French and Spanish.

    What do you make of classical languages such as latin, greek and hebrew ? I already know that you hate esperanto ^^
    Latin can help for all romance languages, and be a propeuditical approach to strongly grammatical indoeuropean modern languages (russian, german), it give an access to a huge culture (including medieval philosophy), and to a way of thinking totally different.

    • @ViBoMe
      @ViBoMe 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@surajverma2763 in terms of difficulty they should be both equally difficult. They are similar but different. Learning one will certainly help learning or understanding the other because of this similarity. However, Spanish speakers are more spread around the world than portuguese ones. They have more countries who speak it and also more used in business than portuguese. Pragmatically it makes more sense to learn spanish, just because it is more known and used. But portuguese also opens your possibilities to other things. And ultimately you should learn the language that enchants you more. I find spanish very plain whereas portuguese, specially the brazilian, is more musical.

      @antoniorodrigues1345 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're extremely unaweary about languages,cause each and every country speaks the correct language.brazil really speaks Brazilian portuguese,though, we don't have to speak the formal language at all the time .fyi ,no country in the world uses its true language in a daily bases,unless it's used in a formal invironment. We don't speak the Portugal language !!We do speak our portuguese,which is different from that one in Portugal.
