    You did great. Glad you had so much fun. I'm a 76 year old woman, also with a 2021 Renegade Trailhawk, and I was living vicariously through your video.

    Nice one , some tricky bits but easy for the renegade despite the lack of articulation, they are a very good compact little 4x4 that can cut it in the rough if you need them too.. but the rubicon and wrangler still rule the extreme . So many people ask the question is the renegade a ,true, jeep ...the answer to that is yes ...for its size its top in in categorie against alot of other , pretenders. Great vid and good driving.

      Thanks John, I learned a lot that day!
      It's a perfect daily driver and is more than capable for my needs - I didn't expect the Renegade handle 4-5 foot drops, river runs, and nasty climbs so easily! I did put better Toyo AT3s on there, but otherwise the rest is stock. For all the people looking at other compacts, none compare in my opinion. I'll be sharing some more winter adventures in the Jeep once the motorcycle season is over.

    I got a 17’ Deserthawk and this makes me proud. I have only run through a few inches of snow getting to work.

    Great video! My Rene looked just like yours. Took mine to the Badlands stock as well. Handled it fine, only issue was the water damaged the PTU, so had to get it replaced. Ended up trading it in for JLU after several PTU failures. The Badlands is a great park!

    • @shassabo
      @shassabo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Ross! It’s a fun little Jeep, but you’re right. If you really get into off-roading a JLU is the next logical step.
      I’m curious about the PTU issue. Did it fail with an error or just started making noises and break?

      @@shassabo I had two different experiences with it. The first time it happened (after the Badlands), I was in a deeper puddle (it was probably at about the max depth of 19", and I was going very slow) and the dash light up like a Christmas trees with warnings. Shut it off, restarted it and it was fine for the rest of the trip and for another week or two. Then the "Service" 4wd light would come on/off for a week and finally was just solid on. No other symptoms. Got it replaced. The second time it happened after going through literally a puddle - like maybe 3-6" deep and the light went on/off for a few weeks, then started grinding and vibrating terribly. Dealer diagnosed it as another pad PTU. It was still under warranty, so that's when I traded it on the JLU.

      @@rossvuich5164 Sounds more like there is a issue with the PTU Vent Tube instead of the PTU itself !!! Something was causing the issue the valve inside the vent could've been stuck open slightly allowing moisture to get in the PTU...Sometimes Techs don't look for the obvious reasons instead they just replace the part.

    3:01 such a great example of using left foot braking

      Heck yeah. I knew about it from your videos and driving manual cars, but it was the reminder I needed to learn how to use it off-road. Hope you got to see the fun little climbs and descent around 8:00 and 8:30 :)

    If you get some rock rails, you'll be able to go many places the naysayers say you can't. Looks like you had fun, I hope you consider getting the rock rails for your future adventures.

    Really the two main limitations of the Renegade is 19 inches of water fording and really steep hills- it doesn't like super steep hills because it doesn't have the low range (yes it's 20:1 but it ain't 56:1)... But other than that.... You'll be right there with Rubicons, especially if you lift it.

    What tires are these?
    I live in Brazil and we don't have many options here.
    The Renegade Trailhawk here has 17" wheels.

      Thanks! They are Toyo Open Country AT3's @ 225/65R17 - up one size from stock without any modification necessary. They are amazing even at 35lb it got through the course with ease.

    What mode did you run in.

    • @shassabo
      @shassabo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it wasn’t too slippery I used Rock mode. Everything else, mud so it didn’t cut power when it slipped - let’s you stay on it so the system can find traction. Worked amazingly well.

  • @jamesakemon4115

    Left foot on the brake doesn't really work for the BU. Best thing to do is put it in auto and let the computer do its thing.

    • @shassabo
      @shassabo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe they made a change in 2019 that keeps it from cutting power when holding the brake, but I guess it’s technically a BV now. So you’re right.
