    Excellent demonstration. I like this Video more than many other Pussycat videos especially because the driver is testing his new car using different methods and he didn’t wreck it. Thanks.

    You need to run in rock or mud mode on the selector. These shut off traction control, which is why you’re bogging down without the wheels spinning. All other modes allow some level of timing pull or braking for traction control.

      @andrewmeyer90 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree. You have the Trailhawk which has the Selec-Terrain. Using these properly with decent experience will make quick work or those obstacles. You’d be surprised what the Trailhawk is capable of; both the Renegade and the Compass.

      Good point. Additionally I’d love to see jeep offer a regular geared four-wheel-drive for the trail hawk version. There’s just nothing like an old-fashioned two speed transfer case like the jeep Cherokee or even the jeep libertys had

    Fun video, thanks for showing the good, the bad and the ugly. ;) I'm getting interested in the new Compass, so assuming it has the same power train & 4WD system as the Renegade, I've been watching more Renegade videos. I currently have a Subaru Crosstrek, but it doesn't have a good approach angle. It's been dirty a few times, though. :)

    As others have said, you need to get tires all in the same size ASAP if you want your rear PTO to last. What it looks like would fix your rubbing problem is wheels with the correct offset.

    Couple things: 1. Running different size diameter tires will wreck your 4wd system, please read the manual.
    Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
    215/75-15 6.3in 13.8in 27.7in 87.0in 728 0.0%
    235/75-15 6.9in 14.4in 28.9in 90.7in 698 4.3%
    2. Those are BFG KM2's on the front...
    3. I like your vids, you need a lift too! Keep having fun.

    A 235 60 17 probably with wheel spacers) would be a great size if it fits without rub and if you can find it I all terrain. This would be a "plus zero" size. I would absolutely NOT increase the wheel circumference on this vehicle due to the limited low range gearing. You'll have to lift , keep tire circumference and MAYBE increase tire width. If it were me , I'd get a more aggressive type of tire but keep the tire size , especially since the lifts go all the way to 4 inches for this one. Keep the tire size and maybe get a 2-3 inch lift. 2.5 inch lift would probably be perfect if you can find it.

    There was some good driving there. And some not so good. Can you leave the trailhawk in auto and set it to low? My sport doesnt have the low setting so im not sure. Honestly some of those tricky spots you just werent letting the computer figure it out. I think a few more seconds would have had them.

  • @bmwmsport11
    @bmwmsport11 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Isn't running 2 different sizes hard on your transmission/transfer case? The front will have more revs. Per mile than the rear. The transfer case will take the difference and probably take a shit one day.

    • @sirtubemaster
      @sirtubemaster 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +bmwmsport11 I believe it is only an issue if it is two different tires on same set...so front & rear no issues if different sizes

    • @rwilliamjacob
      @rwilliamjacob 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +bmwmsport11 it doesn't have a transfer case, but I think because the different rotational speed would ruin some ones day down the road lol.

    • @PatrickRich
      @PatrickRich 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +bmwmsport11 Long story short, yes its bad on the rear PTO clutches as they have to content with a speed bias created by 2 different circumferences. We don't have the sidewall hieght but assuming they are the same its about 4% difference, enough to shorten the life of that PTO over time.

      Those are actually automatic in the Renegade Trailhawk. When car senses off-road driving, when turning left, the left one turns on. When turning right, the right one does the same. They are separate from fog lights - they are like side lights for off-road only. I found it useful in my Trailhawk :)

    • @sirtubemaster

      Sergey Bort nice but what is the purpose? to illuminate the way your turning?

    • @sergeybort1699

      Yes exactly that - it points to where there might be rocks or other obstacles you'd otherwise not see in the dark, right before you drive over them, or decide to avoid them by going around. It only lights up like 4-5 feet diagonally from each light.

    I know little about 4WD ..why is it that when the engine is racing high, the tires aren't spinning?...Is it a transmission issue or is that the way the 4WD/AWD is supposed to work so as not to make matters worse?

    • @toddhoffmaster6057
      @toddhoffmaster6057 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is the transmission doing it's part when it recognizes slippage from 1 wheel. It will then try to transfer the torque to the non spinning tire. The transmission will eventually overheat if he continues to operate in that type of terrain as it can not handle the strain of slippage. This is not a true 4wd vehicle and does not have a true transfer case or low range. Without those features it is still just a car with a sophisticated computer that tries to transfer the power where needed and applies braking force to the wheel that is spinning.

    "...215/R15 BFGs in the front and 235/R15 Kendas in the rear..."... are you trying to destroy your vehicle's AWD system? I like that you're actually off-roading your Jeep Renegade Trailhawk but running different diameter tires on an AWD driveline is a quick way to destroy it.

    @ben.s.castillo 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    What type of roof rack do you have?

  • @Dwealdric
    @Dwealdric 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What is up with the traction control in these things... At some points you aren't moving on the hill, the engine is struggling, and there is no wheel spin. Why is isn't power being put to the wheels at that point? I've seen this in multiple Renegade videos. Seems like a huge shortcoming.

    • @rcguymike
      @rcguymike 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Dwealdric It's the same for any vehicle that doesn't have low range and uses the brakes for traction management. The traction management system uses the brakes to send power from the wheels with no traction to the wheel with traction...this requires twice as much torque when compared to a locked differential. The plus sides are it's cheap(every vehicle these days has ABS so it's just a matter of software programming) and it's pretty effective in most situations, downside is without low range such as in the KL you run out of power/torque really fast. Same issue in the MK's.

    • @Philip550c
      @Philip550c 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +rcguymike trailhawk version as in video has low gears and he says he's using it in the video.

    • @rcguymike
      @rcguymike 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Philip Olinger low gear is just first gear at ~20:1 for the Renegade. A low range transfer case will multiply that and can be anywhere from 30-70:1. The new Cherokee(KL) does that with a 2 speed PTU and depending upon the engine(v6 is 30 something to 1, 4 cyl is near 60 to 1)

    • @Philip550c
      @Philip550c 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see, so the 4 low in the renegade isn't using a transfer case and isn't a true low range? I have a wrangler so that's all I know

    • @rcguymike
      @rcguymike 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Philip Olinger correct. the button just changes some program parameters and "locks" it in first gear. There isn't a transfercase in the renegade, Patriot/Compass, or Cherokee(KL). The Cherokee uses a 2 speed PTU instead of transfercase so it technically does have low range.

      Bro, it's a Jeep. It's not meant to be a pavement queen. If he didn't want to wheel it, he'd have bought a car. As you see, it's holding it's own on the trail

    The renegade looks impressive for the style, but in this video the guy I can tell need more training to drive in off road and he will be more success whit less speed and effort. I watching every video out there and only two occasion I saw whit an Off road tires and was really amazing.
