Time to start getting some new videos up on the channel and this is one I have been wanting to play for some time. the Tie Fighter Total Conversion, A re-creation of one of the freatest starfighter sims of all time in a more "modern" engine with heavy graphical upgrades. Now in your deployment of your Tie Fighter, you went ahead of all the other Tie Fighters to personally scan every ship before the rest of your squadron even arrived. Excellent thinking.
I think the X-wing alliance mod that this is built on has had some re-imagening in it's missions, but I do agree builting a total re-make of the Xwing series would be fantastic as well.
@@MagzGTV Yea, but I’m talking about the original X-Wing, Alliance was pretty story complete when it was released. X-Wing vs TIE Fighter’s expansions could probably benefits from something like this as well.
@@Avalon304 They're working on it. The engines that run TIE and X-Wing are completely different. TIE and Alliance ran off the same engine and was much easier to rebuild than the X-Wing engine. It's a bit more problematic and taking much longer than anticipated.
Notice how the missions don't have asteroids FUCKING EVERYWHERE. That's because space is empty, kids. Really, really empty. That's one of the things that drove me nuts about squadrons. It felt more like a maze game than a dogfight simulator.
Yeah, Squadrons didn't get the differences between the ships right, as I recall. If I remember correctly, it's been a while since I played squadrons, instead of making the imperial fighters faster and more maneuverable on a constant basis they gave them like, a speed boost special or something, on a cooldown, which DOES NOT feel or function like a proper imperial fighter. They gave TIE fighters excessive armor, instead of making them fast and maneuverable. Yes, outpacing and outmaneuvering your foes would give the imperial fighters a distinct advantage if they could get behind their enemies, but that's why the rebels had to fly with wingmen, not only that, imperial fighters would almost always deploy in massive numbers to overwhelm their opponents. In squadrons, you deploy what? 4? And maybe a handful of NPC fighters. That is NOT the compliment of an imperial class star destroyer, or even a victory class. Granted, in a head on battle most times the rebel fighters would win against basic TIE fighters, cutting them down, but only until they could get behind them, or come at them from the flank. Then there's my favourite imperial fighter, the defender. Shields as good or better than an x-wing, a payload close to that of a bomber, and the speed and maneuverability of a TIE, they'd mop the floor with ANY rebel fighter, and even take on capital ships. Yet in squadrons, they had a weak shield, again no imperial fighter had the speed or maneuverability they should have had. Most of the rebel fighters felt like a pretty good match I think, to what they should be, if I remember correctly, except maybe the a-wing. For the same reasons I listed above. Speed and maneuverability. Sorry to harp on those points so much, but, I think that's a big part of what was lacking. Well, that and the single player story could have done better with two seperate campaigns, one imperial, one rebel/new republic. If they wanted intertwining storylines they could do that with two seperate campaigns, but the flip flopping back and forth is immersion breaking. Anyway, I've talked your ears off I'm sure. That's just some of my opinions.
Oh boy I'm gonna have to buy a joystick again ... As someone who grew up with Tie Fighter, being able to hyper in and then see a big fleet like that - amazing!
The only thing I wish is that I'd caught this mostly through the campaign so I could binge it. This TC is just incredible. Stuff I couldn't have even dreamed of back playing original Tie Fighter.
So I watched the beginning of this in the small muted preview mode, and the theme song played so loud in my head that I legitimately thought I heard it playing from my speakers.
Games used to be so much better. You can take any one of these classics from the 90s and the golden age of gaming, give it a fresh coat of paint and it will absolutely demolish a modern AAA title with a budget in the millions.
It's beautiful. Yeah the audio you commented on does sound like the original audio. I was about to comment about how the new voice actors had replicated the intonation of the originals, but it makes more sense that it was the original.
@@CakePrincessCelestia Wikipedia said 94, but I see that was incorrect. As for my personal recollection, I wasn't even a teenager yet and it's 30 years ago lol :)
I like the windows, but I follow the idea that the TF pilot helmets had an AR setup with additional holographics projected on the interior panels that are only visible while wearing the helmet.
OMG Tie Fighter was the progenitor of my love of Space Sims. I played the shit out of Tachyon the Fringe but I was a little too young to truly understand what was going on in TIE Fighter to TRULY appreciate it at the time. A Remake/reimagining of it is EXACTLY the sort of thing I would absolutely LOVE.
I don't think Disney has any real influence on any of the games. To be honest, I had an absolute blast with Squadrons, especially since it's very rare to have a flight game you can actually play with an active multiplayer community, let alone with a group of friends. The singleplayer definitely left a lot to be desired, however.
oh man, nostalgia. I played the heck out of this game when it came out. I had a level creator that was fun. play as TIE defender against increasing waves of enemies. so much fun was had
👍 Xwing Alliance was my first ever game that forced me to use nearly ALL the keys on the keyboard, along with my Logiteck gamepad. Really hope this conversion gets finished.
I played the living snot out of this game back in the day (Wing Commander III too). Good to see the game is alive still. I wore out multiple joysticks on those 2 games. Tie Fighter was a huge improvement over it's predecessor X-Wing, in how playable it was. And it was in VGA 640x480, compared to 320x240 for X-Wing, which made a huge difference in graphics. The A-Wings in later missions were a tough challenge. It was very hard to get the turning circle on them.
It's still ok now with six movies, one TV show and a fantastic library of books making the expanded universe. Shame they stopped making Starwars but oh well. . .
Downloaded the mod after seeing this series. You make it look too easy! Love these old school games that are not as forgiving as the modern stuff though.
This is -such- an important part of my formative years --- I really want to play, but I fear that my old PC can't handle the truth. Thanks for giving me something to look at!
Whoa.. The sfx and audio from the space station at 7:35 is really intense, with radio noise and sirens in the background and everything. You guys did that audio work or it's from the original reimagined release? I only ever had the original game so this is all new to me. I have to play it now.
Hello, this was created for Reimagined. I made this audio layer of background static, the siren and cutting the voice in and out. I thought it would help sell the situation better to add these elements :)
Wow this brings the nostalgia, hard. I must get this modpack. The 90s LucasArts games were unbelievably good. X Wing Alliance was peak Golden Age gaming. Gimme my TIE Defender and we're gunna have a good time! They sure don't make em like they used to!
What I wouldn't give for a proper big budget remake of these games. I remember playing through TIE Fighter on keyboard only (didn't have a mouse yet) and I still loved every second of it
The X-Wing and Tie Fighter games of the 90s were incredible games. I grew up on those two and the Wing Commander series, not to mention Doom, Duke Nukem and others. How I miss that golden age of gaming, man. Now we get games half finished and using it's players as beta testers for a cool $69.99 a pop, hardware companies charging astronomical prices. It's sucked the joy out of gaming.
My favorite thing in this game is to load up on proton torpedoes or concussion missiles and set to unlimited ammon and invincibility, then attack my own star destroyer. Eventually more star destroyers come and they send endless tie bombers after you while the officer on your side says "destroying [imperial vessel was not wise]". Then just shoot down tie bombers for a whole hour or so LOL. The Tie fighters had superior radar to the X wing at least on the engine the game was running on. The Tie Defender was 100% the best fighter on either side.
I played Squadrons and enjoyed it for what it was. But being that it is the closest I've gotten to the flight-sim genre I don't have much to compare it to. I really just enjoyed the campaign (didn't really touch multiplayer) and found it funny that Squadrons had a better Empire campaign than the "Imperial perspective" campaign we were promised in Battlefront 2 from EA. Always wanted to try out the older TIE and X-Wing fighter games. But given their age I doubt they play well with modern hardware or that well on keyboard/mouse. May have to get around to giving this a shot someday.
This looks incredible. I'd love to play it, but I doubt my reflexes & piloting skills are at the level they were 30 years ago. The were more than a few missions in which you had to pull off some insane piloting and gunnery to complete the objectives for the Secret Order of the Emperor. Full sped to Kilimaar, good sir.
Must say, the game looks amazing! Granted, I still remember playing the original game back in the day. (yes, I am old. lol) Such a fun game. I think I mostly enjoyed the storyline over just the action. Going from a relative nobody to a rising star in the Imperial navy, to a crack piloting ace, to a key factor in thwarting a coup, to the Emperor's favorite with HUGE rewards coming your way. . . .once he gets back from Endor. While it looks like some of the mundane tasks were sped up a little, some of the gameplay style looks a little overwhelming to me. Still, it was fun to watch.
@MagzGTV If you are using flight gear make sure you switch on bluemax's joystick gimbal fix. It drastically improves your ability to pull 1%~ and absolutely improves the experience. For something next level, I also highly recommend Voice Attack to use with the squad command functions. It's sometimes best NOT to tell them anything(due to the balancing of the fights), but sometimes it's an extremely nice asset to be able to tell your squad or wingman to attack a specific target, inspect a target(sometimes doesn't work) or attack a target -type-(most useful imo, ie attack B wings) among some other things.
Don't need the fix, I run Virpil gear, Specifically I use a T-50cm2 base with an Alpha-R grip. The Virpil software gives the the ability to fine tune the gimbal and switching on an application basis so I have already re-tuned the stick for TFTC. Voice attack is a fantastic idea only it doesn't work when you happen to also record videos unless you are interested in listening to me do absolutely no commentary and only talk to the software. Otherwise any time I try to discuss anything about the game that involves any word or word combination used in voice attack I'll end up triggering things that I don't want triggered.
@@MagzGTV Nice! I hear good things about that gear. I getcha for the streaming, in regards to voice attack though it's about key phrases. I use it for DCS, IL-2, Arma, Star Citizen, tons of stuff(some things simple like 'show chat' or 'show map', 'inside view' even make it worth it) and I have honestly never had an issue with commands being prompted at inopportune times(discord or streaming). You can fine tune the delay if such a thing occurs, but usually it's capturing strings of sentences and you have to pause and issue the exact wording for it to function. This of course after you train the software a bit in your accent. Many of my commands were 'squad attack type' or '# attack target', 'squad regroup' in TFTC Reimagined and the chances of you actually pausing organically and saying words that sound just like that are pretty slim in my experience! It's an excellent piece of software that I use all the time.
I've used voice attack before (elite Dangerous, DCS world and a few other title) so I know how it works. The issue is and you may have noticed in my videos that I like to chat away a lot talking about game mechanics or lore or the mission or how parts of the game function and you'll also notice that I do have a little bit of an accent. Voice attack tends to screw up a lot in this situation which is why I no longer use it, in DCS it made making videos next to impossible as despite not saying specific phrases while talking the software would miss read the conversation along with the access and to anything from dropping tanks to turning off key systems. The only way to "use" it was to restrict the controls it had access to until it was pretty much pointless to run. in TFTC, I have a Hotas system that combined has over 200 button options, My Alpha-R Joystick grip alone has 32 buttons and six axis along with a scroll wheel. Enough buttons to almost bind every control in TFTC to just the stick, then my throttle has twice that again, more than enough to bind the whole game onto my grips and still have spare buttons. It's the advantage of using a pretty advanced modern Hotas setup on an older game, my button count outweighs the games control count.
Man, I hope they didn't change my 'favorite' line; during a post mission debrief, the Imperial Officer says that rebel prisoners captured during one of you ops were being taken for 'processing'==the quotation marks made it both funny and sinister.
in the original tie fighter from 1994 the shields of the star destroyers were still up after destroying the two shield generators. did they fix that "bug"? in x-wing this was still original like in the movies. i think this was because they thought the star destroyers in x-wing were easier to destroy than nebulon b frigates.
I really put my hopes in Squadrons but after the first few missions I had enough allready. The feeling of the starfighters, the amount of fighters you could fly with, the radar system, no pointless chatter with cringe characters, the strict and useful mission briefing and some really hard missions - all that made TIE Fighter from 1994 great and was missing in Squadrons. What we got with Squadrons were silly special moves. No more knowing your fighter and pull every last ability out of it in the right moment - just press a few buttons and you will make an automatic hard turn for example. I was bored and annoyed at the same time. This mod on the other hand looks amazing and I will try it out. :)
I thought it was way too easy and not realistic at all , I gave up on squadrons after 2 hours it was more like a movie that you have a bit of influence on
I remember playing these when they released. Still got the original disc and cd-rom version around somewhere. Epic games that completely outclass pretty much every Star Wars game released recently.

Now in your deployment of your Tie Fighter, you went ahead of all the other Tie Fighters to personally scan every ship before the rest of your squadron even arrived. Excellent thinking.
Thank you so much! Completely forgot about his classic and now seeing it in beautiful updated graphics is wonderful.
YES! Thank you for covering the mod! I loved this game as a kid
Holy Spaceballs this is cool. Nice one Magz!
I need something like this for X-wing... >_> a reimagined version with larger battles and more story and stuff... that would be neat.
The intro brings all the feels! Time to bring law and order to the galaxy!
This brings back some great memories. I loved this game.
Notice how the missions don't have asteroids FUCKING EVERYWHERE. That's because space is empty, kids. Really, really empty. That's one of the things that drove me nuts about squadrons. It felt more like a maze game than a dogfight simulator.
I lent my voice to this project! I’m one of the pilots!
*stuning, simply stuning , this is like art made of the Golden Days of gaming*
So I watched the beginning of this in the small muted preview mode, and the theme song played so loud in my head that I legitimately thought I heard it playing from my speakers.
Games used to be so much better. You can take any one of these classics from the 90s and the golden age of gaming, give it a fresh coat of paint and it will absolutely demolish a modern AAA title with a budget in the millions.
There is a Sith Order icon visible when you access the Holonet terminal. It's below the main screen and consists of three triangles. Check that out.
It's beautiful. Yeah the audio you commented on does sound like the original audio. I was about to comment about how the new voice actors had replicated the intonation of the originals, but it makes more sense that it was the original.
EFF YEA!!!! The first game I was obsessed with as a child was the original X-wing (that released in '94)!
The original Floppy version dropped in '93 :)
Take notes Disney, this is a true Star Wars flight sim.
Meanwhile, Disney: **preparing a DMCA strike + CnD against the mod team**
To be fair, I hope they aren't.
I don't think Disney has any real influence on any of the games. To be honest, I had an absolute blast with Squadrons, especially since it's very rare to have a flight game you can actually play with an active multiplayer community, let alone with a group of friends. The singleplayer definitely left a lot to be desired, however.
This looks great! Thank you for previewing it.
oh man, nostalgia.
15:24 ooo nice touch, a SoroSuub PLY3000, same as Calrissians's Lady Luck.
Awesome, I'd love to see more!
Can you believe that I remember days when there were only 3 Star Wars movies? ...it felt great...
It's still ok now with six movies, one TV show and a fantastic library of books making the expanded universe. Shame they stopped making Starwars but oh well. . .
This is one if the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
The Naboo ship (Sinder) is from Attack of the Clones.
Downloaded the mod after seeing this series. You make it look too easy! Love these old school games that are not as forgiving as the modern stuff though.
I vaguely remember a mission where you had to protect a bunch of ships - was hard to keep everybody alive!
This is -such- an important part of my formative years --- I really want to play, but I fear that my old PC can't handle the truth. Thanks for giving me something to look at!
Super excited for this! Go Magz!
Please continue the playthrough, this was the best in it's series, and we've missed it sorely.
What I wouldn't give for a proper big budget remake of these games. I remember playing through TIE Fighter on keyboard only (didn't have a mouse yet) and I still loved every second of it
Thank you for checking it out. :D
Looks awesome, hats off to the modders
Glad to see it back!
OOOOOOH MY GOODNESS! This brings back some memories!
Thanks for bringing this out. Really geeking out flying a tie fighter in VR. I didn’t like squadrons.
Well, I know what I’m doing later. Thanks for showing this one off.
Well, adding this to my want list, alongside the Wing Commander IV fan remaster. Dang, I might have to pick up a flight stick.
I did not realize it has track IR support, gotta hook that up again!
Awesome, just need someone to redo the cut scenes as well. What a great game this was/is !!
Must say, the game looks amazing!
Granted, I still remember playing the original game back in the day. (yes, I am old. lol)
Such a fun game.
This game looks just like how I remembered it in the late 90's, hasn't aged a day! lol
So much awesome. Great to see.
Message from mission-critical craft: They've been destroyed!
Yea, it still haunts me.
I don't like or sub to anyone, but for that first line in pearl blue followed by the fanfare, you got my sub!
Oh yes please! TIE Fighter was my favorite in the series. :D
I thought it was way too easy and not realistic at all , I gave up on squadrons after 2 hours it was more like a movie that you have a bit of influence on
Was disappointed in Squadrons as I always felt claustrophobic with all the space junk and debris in the maps. Outer space should be empty and cold.
The X-Wing 1.44 floppies are in one of my desk drawers. 😂
I remember playing these when they released. Still got the original disc and cd-rom version around somewhere. Epic games that completely outclass pretty much every Star Wars game released recently.
I love it.
This looks beautiful. I am going to keep an eye out for more videos.
My pro-imperial ass also likes how this shows the rebellion's true colors in the first mission already: Ruthless terrorists without a hint of morals.
