Your designs are gorgeous, so artistic and unique! Last year I started using dried flowers and am growing more this year for Fall color. Lots of celosia, Flamingo Feather that self-seeds, hydrangea, and this year strawflowers. Hobby gardener, but love making bouquets to bring the beauty indoors. Thanks for all the wonderful information and lovely blooms!
So glad to be able to share, TH-cam is such a great platform! All flower gardeners are welcome here! I think you will enjoy the straw flowers, they are so fun to grow and just keep giving you more!
Glad I found you a couple weeks ago! Just watched the video with Jesse,B.A.R.E. I love the designs I'm seeing! I have been in flowers my whole life,.. and warped in/out of all of it's areas. When I started growing for market 11 yrs. ago, and making bouquets...it was the design element that I loved. Yes; a very, rural farmer's market. The wedding work( I freelanced ) was stressful/ wanted out. So..I came back home and regrouped on 1/2 acre... and go to market with my own bouquets. I get to design a little...or not, and just sell what I have. I've gone back to drying some flowers again, too. I LOVE simplicity!!
Aaah you are my floral industry twin!! Haha, that’s crazy how similar our stories are! I’m so glad to hear that you’ve found your way to what really suits you…there is something so special about growing your own, isn’t there?
I love dried flowers mixed with fresh, there is something about that combination. I think the difference in textures maybe, seems to add depth the arrangements. I am thinking this coming summer of starting to save some flowers for drying so that for Mother's Day arrangements, which in my part of the world is late Autumn, I'd like to offer arrangments that don't use imported flowers, only locally sourced. This is challenging because generally what people are looking for with Mother's Day arrangements is not available at this time of the year so I am going to experiment a bit with this concept and thanks for this video because it has helped to give me that bit more confidence to have a go! 😊
Ohh that’s fantastic, so glad I could give you some help! My best follow up advice for this is to do a lot of experimenting leading up to Mother’s Day, test out all the drieds and see how they perform (do they hold up or do they wilt if they are directly in water? Do they get mushy stems or do the stems stay strong? Do they get moody quickly?)…
What a great teaching video! Thanks for all the info and ideas you shared which is a lot. I also love your designs, never tire of seeing what you create😍
I absolutely LOVE your work! Thank you for sharing all of your inspiration and knowledge. This is the first video of yours that I have seen and I’m subscribing now!
Awe thank so much for your kind words, I’m so enjoying being able to share through TH-cam, it’s a great fit for me! Thanks for your support, I truly appreciate it!
I have already shared this video with a flower friend! Such excellent content and well done. You are not only a gifted florist farmer, but also an incredible teacher! ❤️
Awe you are so kind, thank you for your encouragement and also thank you for sharing my video! I am really hoping to be able to continue working with TH-cam to share and teach and the success of this so relies on everyone’s support, so thank you again. Take care!
I'm about to help a friend with her dried fresh mixed wedding florals. Currently our tiny basement is holding loads of dried limelight hydrangeas from her family garden. This was such an inspirational video and now I'm less nervous about mixing them and love all your tips
Yay! I’m so happy to hear that I was able to help equip you with some techniques AND reduce your nerves, I hope it goes well and I’m sure it will be beautiful!
This is exactly the information ive been searching for MONTHS for! Thank you so much for sharing combo tips. We are growing our own dried florals for our wedding this October! We have been looking for proper storage as we plan to make the combo bouquets the afternoon before, but were unsure if we could put them in the fridge or just a vase with water in the basement. We plan on using fresh roses then adding our dried recipe of dahlias, strawflowers, cosmos, aster and peonies. Do you think fridge would be ok for these dried varieties? Also, any tips for dahlias bringing in aphids? Its the only one weve had issues with indoors. And picking off has worked until i bring more in.
Glad this was helpful for you! Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! I would test everything to be sure how it will behave in the fridge. Strawflowers will wilt in the fridge, I can tell you that, but it’s fine if they are tucked down into your bouquets and supported by the other flowers.
Great video and so gorgeous pieces/combinations!! 💖💐 I'm also working with dried flowers and I love your style!! One question: why didn't you mention yarrow (or did I just miss it?)? I love to dry my bright yellow one that fades into some creamy tone when dried for a little longer. Even then it is so fine for example together with eucalyptus, because the creamy yellow fits nicely to the blueish grey of the dried eucalyptus. But I really don't have luck with the pink tones of yarrow. I have always tried to harvest them in the right stage, but it always wilts within hours. 😢 So no chance to use them as dried flowers. All the best for a wonderfull flowering year 2024 and kind regards from denmark!! 🤗🌻
Thank you so much for watching and for your feedback! You know, the only achillea I grow are the peach/pinks, I don’t grow the yellow one and I imagine that one dries with more substance. But I didn’t mention achillea because as I mentioned, I don’t grow the yellow one and for the other colours, I do dry and use them but they aren’t one of my top favourites or one I use a lot because they don’t dry with a lot of substance. That said, they do dry with a delicate lacy texture that I like to tuck into wreaths when I have them; but I simply couldn’t mention everything that I do grow because the video would have been at least an hour long haha. By the way, I do forage and use something very similar to yellow achillea which is “tansy”, it’s an invasive weed in my area and very ample in some spots in my neighbourhood and I keep a good amount of it dried on hand, and it also means it’s one less thing that I have to grow in my own gardens 😄. I hope that explains it! So nice to connect with your in Denmark! A place I’d like to visit someday! Happy growing!
Yes it’s very cool and I’ve used it for centerpiece as well hanging installation pieces and it holds up very well once it dries. A downside of it is just that it dries more slowly than regular glue; but when you get used to working with it, it’s neat to know that it’s fully biodegradable so it’s definitely an improvement for me on my own work that I used to do with standard floral glues. In terms of humidity, it depends - rain or direct water will obviously eventually just rehydrate it and wash it away. I have used it more in the context of interior spaces which obviously are a bit drier. One thing I have noticed is they it doesn’t give way to suddenly temperature changes the way hot glue can release its bond when going from warm to cold. But I have not thoroughly tested it out just sitting outdoors under cover for a long duration of time. If you try it, let me know how it goes for you! The more people testing it out and trying new innovations, the better we all are!
@@floristsonfarmsI would only try it in October on sunny days. I only sell via my flower wagon and dried flowers on a pumpkin would not work when its raining, for obvious reasons.
