  • My Top Five bouquet fillers for summer bouquets are important because they add size and beauty to bouquets; but there's one more thing these filler flowers have in common on my cut flower farm. I'm calling these "neverending" fillers and I'm sharing what they are, my favourite varieties of each, some growing tips and information, and specific floral design tips for working with each on in bouquets and arrangements.

    What a fantastic video. Honestly, your bouquets are absolutely beautiful - lots of inspiration there. I must admit I have dropped sweet peas off my list for now - I've found it has such a short vase life that despite its beauty and perfume, it'd be disappointing for customers in bouquets. I'm also going heavier on perennials - echinacea, perennial phlox and campanula, echinops etc etc. Loved this - thanks 🎉🎉🎉

      Perennials are amazing! If you have the space for them, they are invaluable! My customers love the sweet peas; BUT we all have to do what works best for us, our farms, our customers! All of my bouquets go out with flower food; which really helps sweet peas! Perennial phlox is lovely too, I think you will love those, just wish it stuck around longer!

    I just found your channel and love that you are also in BC. I live in Prince George, so have a slightly different climate. One of my favourite flowers in the garden is sedum. I bought 15 of the Proven Winners tall sedums on sale for a $1 at the end of last season. I'm hoping they come back this spring.

    I’m growing flowers for my son’s wedding next August 9th. Unfortunately my daughter in law is fixated on Orange flowers. (No yellow, no pink) The dresses are rust. Last summer I grew flowers as a trial and got a good idea for what she likes and am all set to fill the garden with orange flowers. I love how you show how to choose a flower and then connect it to others in the palette. I’m growing shades of oranges, peaches, terracotta in snapdragons, zinnias, dahlias, statice, straw flowers, Gomphrena and celosia. I’m growing Orlaya, babies breath, Tanecetum, for some whites and dusty miller and basil for greens. I’ve also started lisianthus from seed but I don’t think any of them will be “orange” enough but there are some lovely salmon and apricot. In the trial bouquets last summer I didn’t like dusty miller with the orange or white with the orange. Any suggestions? Should I just keep the bridesmaids bouquets to the shades of orange and forget the whites and grey? I’ve also overwintered eucalyptus. I’d like to make her bouquet whites and light apricot, peaches but that’s a conversation for another day. 😁

    • @floristsonfarms
      @floristsonfarms  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Aaah yes, those are tricky because brides don’t usually understand how colour works or how using even different shades and tints of a hue creates the beauty and dynamic look they actually like! I’d lean into what bride wants, for sure! Pinterest or web searching orange bouquets might help give you some inspo!

    Yes, report back on how the sweet peas do! Do you do acting different in the way you grow them when you know you’re cutting the vine as well? I know people have various opinions on cutting off the tendrils. What have you found most helpful.
    I’d also love to hear your thoughts on how annual acts perennial phlox compare to each other in a future video.
    Super useful video thanks!

    • @floristsonfarms
      @floristsonfarms  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      No, I treat them the same; BUT I can say that my hoop house sweet peas exceed my field sweet peas for stem length. I dont cut off the tendrils. I do pinch the plants back once when they are young, to encourage branching.
      Perennial phlox pretty much flowers just once for me. Sometimes it might do a secondary flush, but that’s never very strong. Perennial phlox has large bulky stems. Annual phlox, on the other hand, is more dainty but blooms for me all summer long.
      Hope that helps! 💖

      I pick it when the larger centre section is fully open. If the whispy side blooms aren’t ready yet, those will wilt; but they can be removed. Ideally, I pick it when all the individual blooms are open including the side shoots. It has an extended harvest window which is nice, so it can also be picked when it’s more ripe and starting to fade out a bit.
