I picked up a '96 1400 intruder after seeing my old mans 1400 intruder trike. Best bike I've owned for sure. Rebuilt, resprayed, retuned, runs like a dream
I recently rescued a 1995 from a junk pile..rebuilt the carbs..got all the rust out of the tank and sealed it changed all fluids new brakes...trying to sync carbs
I bought a brand new 1996 800cc Intruder when I was in college. I loved that bike!! I saw someone with a 1400 and I knew I had to get one! I ended up buying the 1400 brand new in 2001 on my wife's birthday. Must have been an omen...lol. I ended up selling it around 2006 or 7 because I had kids and couldn't ride like I wanted. Anyway, is now 2023 and I bought a 2003 1400 that is the same exact color scheme as the 2001 that I had back then. I could have bought a Harley but I knew that the Suzuki was a solid bike with plenty of power and maintenance requirements are low. You have to get the carbs jetted and change the pipes to drags. That bike will scream! The wirring noise that seems to get louder with the mileage on the bike seems to be from the cam shaft. I'm not sure about that but that's what it seems like to me. Oh yeah, get the forward pegs too.
My 97 vs 1400 4 Speed is almost to 60,000 miles. I've got a Mustang seat on mine the big Cobra shotguns exhaust and it's painted a bright vivid Orange.
I first made eyes on the 1400 here in the UK.in May 87 i took a photo of it in the shops window.then frequently saw them sold in bike shops . last time i saw one of these was back in 98
I just bought my vs1400 about a week or two ago and im in LOVE with this bike. It's got some balls, and it's comfy but I 100% agree on the forward controls and rejet. Only thing I've had to change is a battery. But God I would kill to have roads like that to ride!!
I have the suzuki vs800 intruder 2002. And it's my very first bike, ever. It does seem to be a tricky bike to master. But man is it fun, and even the 800 seems to get me (151 pounds) to 60 like it's 2 seconds lol. Haven't slipped any gears.
800 is a better bike, lighter, quicker off the line and more nimble 😊 plus you can do a vs1400 final drive conversion on the vs800 and it'll have the long gears like the 1400.
Just bought a 1995 1400cc intruder with 2,700 miles on it and I love it. The turn signals will turn off if You press in the center of the turn signal. I had the same problem until I got use to it . Good bikes 1400cc are

Amazing place to take a ride, Nice Bike, "Good Winds Bro"
i have one from a 93, bought it from someone who let it sits under the weather with no cover for years, i fully rebuild but changed the tank, handlebar. now it runs good, but rattling sound is there, i think this bike has quite a good vibration from the engine. i think i need to spanner check all of the bolts and nuts, with a threadlocker on the threads so that it would not loosen overtime
My 96 VS 1400 also rattles. Gas tank, gas cap. Previous owner had tried fixing it, bought a new gas cap, still rattles. Clutch slips at high speeds. Keeps me safe that way, cant go above 130 km/hr. Love the bike so much though. Tiresome for long hauls however. A small wind shield helped some. Mine has 5 speeds, not 4. Not too loud, nice sound.
I understand that this is 10 months old message but you can overcome the clutch slippage by adding aftermarket clutchsprings! The OEM gets loose over time.
If those bars were any narrower, you'd be crossing your arms over at the wrists. I think if you put on a wider set of bars the bike would also feel less top heavy.
I put a set of new handlebars on my 1998 Intruder 1400 cc and it changed the handling of the bike for the better. I put a set of cobra pipes on mine the bike sounds awesome. I did rebuild the carbs and rejetted them also. My bike runs so good. Change your bars to some nice drag bars you will be impressed with some new handlebars. I put my video on UTUBE also.
Oh, never mind...I see your 800 reference now. I own a vs 1400 and they are top heavy, and with the rake and the front wheel dia, it wants to "flop" to the inside of a slow sharp turn.
+Stan Wilhite Yeah man, I liked it a lot though. It felt as if I'd really enjoy it with some Avon Cobras on it to lighten up the handing a hundred pounds.
+InvictvsNox Yeah I like mine a lot too. Here's the link to the adjustable flash rate turn signal relay I bought. As I said I haven't installed mine yet but it takes care of the problem of the turn signals flashing too fast.Stan
Stan Wilhite My issue wasn't blinking speed, it was the cancelling. On my 800, you just move the slider back to the center position. On the 1400, there's a button ontop of the switch you've gotta press to cancel it.
that rattle is the gas cap....it's annoying....hard to fix....My wife and i just did a round on my 98, same color, same everything....Handles right nicely..
That's the three things I noticed I need to do to my VS1400. Forward controls (I'm 6' tall), better handlebars & figure out that (low speed) 'flip-flop' form front end when turning in.
Oh, OK. Are you sure the turn signals are supposed to cancel w/no input from the rider? My 1400 is an 04 and to cancel the TS switch has to be either pressed in (from the Rt or Lt position) or moved back to center.
I am looking at intruders near me can some one tell me if the intruder can do 70 mph comfortably without ringing the engine out either 4 spd or 5pds? If I get one it is for a 90 minutes round trip cruise I was plan to do.
I bought a vs 1400 for a first bike a few months ago, it's definitly a ''though'' ride in corners, had to take them very slow in the beginning at first but i am getting better. I am just worried about having the exhaust pipes hitting the ground. Other then that, afcourse i love it very much the sound the comfort the torque(!) I don't think i ever would want a hairdryer (sportsbike) Btw, you should get a straight handlebar, i think that is more comfortable.
your rattle is either the gas cap or the tank itself. usually, it's the cap. on mine, it's the tank... hope that's not your problem. can't figure out how to quiet mine down.
+Tupinambis13 I actually narrowed it down to the front bracket that holds the headlight in. Just gotta tighten it down, but it may need some muffling help. The 800 I had had a bad gas cap rattle. I flipped the gasket upside down and added some felt pads, but it still didn't eliminate it entirely. Luckily I don't think this is the case with the 1400 just yet.
A minivan thinking he could cut me off and beat me through a red light while I was going straight through. 1 year and lots of physical therapy later I'm on the best bike I've ever owned.
Push the little center button on the turn signals and that will clear it off.

The rattle he’s hearing is the piece of metal in each mirror comes unglued and rattled inside the mirror housing.
I fixed mine by drilling a small hole in the back and filling it with foam insulation.
Thanks for the ride man ,I needed this today as my 1999 Intruder is setting in storage right now as we have a snow day today!😁
I've got 35k on my '03 1400. It's been good but needs a clutch now.

Used to have a 9614 that was bobbed out love that bite

+zyar46 Definitely a good practice.
@Spacecoastz Or ranging mounts. I assume that is the problem I have with mine. The whole left side shakes on mine.
Engine mounts, not ranging. (Dang. Was sure I has the *&^% spell check off)

Gus DeGus my rattle was actually the headlight housing!
Lucky you, easy fix.

Intruder vs 1400 number 1 🇷🇸👍👍👍
thanks at last a great video on vs 1400.

Suzuki should update and bring this bike back with efi abs and tcs. Or just efi and abs.
Wholeheartedly agree.
2019 suzuki cruiser line up, already updated it for release th-cam.com/video/d58D1_Khr7Q/w-d-xo.html
The handlebars on that bike looks so much narrower than the ones I have on my 94 1400
That's just because the bars were rolled forward resulting in awful hand cramps for the looks lol
Gas cap rattles have a 1995 pushing 30,000 miles by Spring
The air filters are foam and easy to clean.
L' époque des vraies motos.
That's the three things I noticed I need to do to my VS1400. Forward controls (I'm 6' tall), better handlebars & figure out that (low speed) 'flip-flop' form front end when turning in.
Takeout Johnny did you ever find forward controls?

i have a 98 1400 aswell that neutral will sneek up on ya lol i also hate the turn signals btw the race bars look awesome on these
Yo Mike is it a very heavy bike to ride ?

I miss this bike. The one I'm test riding here was the one I bought (and then wrecked when a minivan hit me.)
Buzzy noise is your gas cap lol
Ill trade forward controls for stock controls
i have some i will trade
have you ever attempted syncing the carbs on the 1400? I'm not sure where to connect the gauge on the front one???
Jacob Hopkins the process is very much the same save for two steps or so.
your rattle is either the gas cap or the tank itself. usually, it's the cap. on mine, it's the tank... hope that's not your problem. can't figure out how to quiet mine down.

+InvictvsNox hmm, have to check my headlight brackets now lol
Tupinambis.X my 96 model rattled so I got genuine Suzuki replacement, week later it rattled😖
Genuine replacement what? Tank? Cap?

Bolt on bracket with pegs and controls more towards the front of the motor
Thats no rattle...thats the rods knocking....lol
Nahhh, she was mint when she last ran. RIP.
Brake squeal...😵
It sure didn't squeal when I wrecked it! haha
I have the same bike. I just baught a few months ago. What happened when you wrecked it?

InvictvsNox lmao. Ever get another one?
Check out my latest vids!
my father said id get that oil light n cutting out seen by a pro shop.not healthy
The issue was a weak battery. If you have a strong battery with these, you will have a bike that will last you forever.
i like that bike last forever.made me more wanting one.
im looking for a very last bike,i have owned 23 since 1977
captainengland that's awesome! You have way more experience than I.
yeah but im still a novice.still learning still.here in the UK.
thought it was a 5 speed
I believe 97 was the year then went from 4 to a 5 speed.
Pretty sure my 94 is a 5 speed
what ever happened to this bike?
A minivan thinking he could cut me off and beat me through a red light while I was going straight through.
1 year and lots of physical therapy later I'm on the best bike I've ever owned.
なんて言ってんの?😅
Here what is?.....old junk mobile
The motors sound Gaye on those bikes
I got a 96 'truder with pipes from a Harely Heritage and you can feel it in your chest from five feet away.
What you ride?
