- I finally sewed up this Simplicity trench coat pattern! It’s light, open, and a great transition piece for late Summer into Fall/Autumn. ☀️🍁
As with many sewing projects there are many different ways to sew a garment. I mostly followed the pattern instructions here. If in doubt, refer back to the Simplicity pattern instructions for your chosen view.
And *trust your instincts*. You are a great sewist!
Project details are below. 👇

I really love your style of sewing and how you show every detail. It is so helpful. Stay Blessed.
Thank you so much 😊
I just made the A version of this in a cream linen and your step by step was SUCH a great addition to following the pattern. One change I'll make next time is using feather weight interfacing. I used lightweight and it still feels a little too stiff for me. I also made a few other changes- I made the belt loops MUCH bigger after seeing how small the pattern was. I like the chunky loops with the wide belt. I put the loops on the back of the jacket rather than the sides (again just personal preference), and I sewed down the front "flaps." I think the weight of the interfacing and fabric made them floppier and it was a sensory issue for me. Seeing your fabric and how it hangs was a super helpful comparison. Thanks again!!
I am so glad this was helpful!! I love these observations and notes, too. So many variations on how things can look with different fabrics and interfacings. Thank you for sharing your experience here! 💜🙏
I’m just learning how to sew after 40 years of knitting. This is pure meditation for me to watch and very inspirational. You are very talented. Thank you for sharing ❤
Thank you so much! And I am confident you will be great at sewing. ✨
This is wonderful! I’m in a trance watching you sew. These are the best videos! From start to finish you provide the steps and demonstrate with such details. Thank you!
Thank you so much!
I’m just getting my sewjo back after several years of not sewing
. I’m so glad to have found your channel. I love how calm and meditative your content is
🙌 Love these stories-I can relate to not sewing for a long time. Take it one step at a time!
Ordered my fabric and pattern. I am excited to make this and appreciate the video very much. I am newer to sewing and this helps immensely.
So glad to hear this! ✨☀️
This was so fun and relaxing to watch. I especially appreciate how you focussed on all of the details in this make and took the time necessary to video so those details were easy to see and understand. Well and beautifully done.
Thank you so very much! 💜
If possible I recommend block interfacing, i.e. interface the space/area where your facings and collar, etc will be cut out. Then you only cut once and the interfacing and fabric is guaranteed not to warp/stretch. Just makes it easier. I love what you have done with this pattern.
You’re so right, it can definitely save time. I block fused on a recent coat project. 💜
This turned out so great Cleo, just like your other makes! You're really talented and I love your style of videos. Thank you!
Thank you so much! 😊
Lovely tailoring and end result.
Thank you! 😊
Such a beautiful coat!! I usually go for the usual black or navy when making a coat. I am on the lookout for chocolate or light brown now!! The music was lovely especially backyard magnolias which I never heard before. I had to use Shazam to look this up!!)
Hey, thanks so much! And I love that you used Shazam!. Backyard Magnolias is my fave tune of the bunch, too. 💜
Fabulous! I need to make one of these and hopefully I’ll get close to your professional result.
I love your videos.
Thank you so much! 💜
It’s beautiful. You did a fantastic job 👌🏼😊
I appreciate this, thank you!
Hey Cleo! I'm happy to have found your channel again! How are you liking your Bernina? I have an older model (Artista 730e) and love it. I got mine used, but it sews really well. I see that you have a Barbie Box for storing your presser feet. Very cool. Love your style and aesthetic, it's really great watching you presenting your garment sewing projects. Thanks for posting.
Thanks so much! Yes, loving the Bernina. So good. I am very attached to it! 😁✨
