I believe U2’s best most powerful and beautiful song is Pride ( in the name of love) written about Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. This song still gives me chills every time I hear it. Excellent song.

U2 is a very socially conscious band. This song changes it's tone halfway through. After the 2nd chorus (where you paused the song) Bono sings about human rights violations and man destroying the planet. He juxtaposes a beautiful thing about the world with an ugly thing about the world. "See the world in green and blue" vs "See China right in front of you" (human rights violations). "See the canyons broken by clouds" vs "See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out". "See the Bedouin fires at night" vs " See the oil fields at first light". There is still hope though: "And see the bird with the leaf in her mouth. After the flood all the colors came out. After these lines the chorus changes to it WAS a beautiful day.
Weeellll... not quite. Sorry. Bono is highly religious and it often gets into the lyrics. The bird with the leaf in her mouth after the flood is a reference to Noah and the biblical flood. There are multiple themes in the song, true-but its more a spiritual or religious thing (im not religious by the way)

U2 played at the Superbowl after 9/11. It's a beautiful tribute and should be watched as it showed all the names of those that were lost that day.
"U2 Live Under a Blood Red Sky" at Red Rocks, Colorado is their best album in my opinion. You can still find most of that performance on TH-cam. "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "New Year's Day" are their 2 best songs. They talk about the violence in Ireland over Christianity, an oxymoron. If you watch "New Year's Day", get to see The Edge go back and forth about a dozen times between piano and guitar.
Violence and christianity is not an oxymoron, they have been soulmates for centuries.
Still one of the best live shows recorded ever!
I'll never understand why they cut out the best parts of New Year's Day in the video & their Greatest Hits album. The only good New Year's Day is the original uncut studio version.

This is one of their later songs, but still carries an '80s sound (for me). They're Irish. My faves include MYSTERIOUS WAYS, NEW YEARS DAY, and WHERE THE STREETS HAVE NO NAME.
Beautiful Day got to number 1 in the UK singles chart in October 2000. Fine song. The aforementioned three are great as well.
The Joshua Tree is my all time favorite it was my first cds that I bought. It is full of amazing songs. One Tree Hill, With or Without You., I Still Haven't Found What I'm looking for, many others. They are one of my favorite groups. Running to Stand Still. Such good ones.

Deep rabbit hole with this band. Saw them April 1983. "Two Hearts Beat as One" and "Pride (In the Name of Love)" are favorites! This song is from 2000. They were huge in the 80's and 90s. First album was 1980.
My opinion is their old music is best. My favorite is “Two Hearts Beat As One,” but anything from that War album is incredible. If you go to U2 Live At Red Rocks, any song you pick is outstanding!

I saw these guys in Kenan Stadium in beaUtiful Chapel Hill, NC on the first date of their WAR tour in '83. The day was cloudy for Grandmaster Flash and The Producers and went full thunderstorm by the time U2 hit the stage. For Sunday, Bloody Sunday Bono climbed 40 ft to the top of the lighting rig with a white flag on a pole waving it as lightning struck all around. Todd Rudgren was the headliner for the concert and only about 3-4K out of the original 30k were left. It was the most memorable concert I've ever seen. The Live at Red Rocks album was recorded on the same tour, but it doesn't come close the Chapel Hill concert.
My favorite U2 albums are the first three from 1980-1983. I Will Follow, from their first album Boy; Gloria from their second album October; and New Years Day from War (although 40 way be the most memorable song from the album).

Just some kids from Ireland when they started. To me U2 is GOAT. They really mixed it up over the years...very creative and diverse. Politically passionate. Bono has been very globally involved with funding for AIDS research and treatment. A band with a conscience.

Amber’s face the first time that chorus kicked in is me every time I hear this song. I still get goosebumps when it plays, especially the last minute or so. It’s just so spiritual and fills you with peace and joy. “What you don’t have you don’t need it now.” Best lyric ever.
U2 are an Irish rock band from Dublin, Ireland, formed in 1976. The only famous Band with just the same 4 members, for 44 years!
I love U2. Their music is so uplifting and they go all out with the production of their concerts. A few years ago the gave us an amazing album for free that was automatically uploaded to people's iTunes. Tons of people were upset for that. Like, what?!?! Free album! What's not to love. 🤦♂️🤷♂️

I was literally JUST on a U2 binge last night and I thought about sending you all some suggestions! These guys are so much fun to see in concert. I have seen them 3 times-twice with the U2 360° tour (at Michigan State, and Chicago respectively) and I saw The Joshua Tree 30th Anniversary tour in Detroit. Their concerts are a whole multimedia experience and even though it’s tightly produced (meaning they aren’t a jam band like Dave Matthews Band, and their concert is the same at every stop) they are SO fun. It’s a bucket list item to see them in Dublin-they’re huge over there. Like, I found a big mural of them painted in a Dublin alleyway of O’Connell Street Lower.
I am partial to The Joshua Tree album since I was only around 9 when it came out and it was like a whole phenomenon. Their sound with The Edge’s signature jangly guitar was something we’d never heard at the time. I also clearly remember seeing the “With or Without You” video and feeling some kinda way about Bono. 😂 My suggestion for a few more songs of theirs are “Where The Streets Have No Name,” “With or Without You,” “Sunday Bloody Sunday” and “One.” Both the U2 version of that song and the duet with Mary J. Blige are fantastic but I think you guys would really enjoy the version with Mary J.’s vocals.
To answer your question, the music was written by the band and Bono wrote the lyrics. And they’re very Bono-esque lyrics-he’s very vocal and active in social justice.
PS I was in a friend’s wedding in 2003 and we all exited to this song, so it always gives me feels 💜

I didn't see them in a concert in Dublin, but I was over their for the Freedom of the City and they sang three songs at that. It was wonderful.
For me: Achtung Baby is their best album, every song on there is a masterpiece. Beautiful Day is later on in their career. Still run with headphones to the first single I heard from them: I will follow. They have a religious backround. You feel that in their uplifting songs in my opinion. A concert of U2 is kind of like a church singing in a way.. that's how i feel. So much love and positivity. I always imagine that if you would just listen to audience applause without the music, you could always tell the audience at an U2 concert :- )
U2’s Live Aid performance was spectacular! Hard to compare performances of any of band for the whole day, because there were so many greats performing and my friends and I started drinking at the beginning and didn’t stop till the end!

U2 my go to playlist… my sister played this while walking into her wedding reception.. for a live version you will like “All I Want is You/“Where the Streets Have No Name” it’s so good!!!
This is such a fantastic song. However, if I were you, I would listen to their entire 2002 Superbowl halftime show (this was one of the songs). If you're not absolutely bawling by the end of it I couldn't begin to guess why not. This definitely hits harder for those whom 9/11 is still a sharp memory. There's a documentary on this as well, and it is amazing how much healing that halftime show was at the time. You really need to find some time to watch these, I think it will inspire you. You could even do a "special feature" where the only reaction you do for that day is the halftime show.

I watched that performance live. When they played this song it felt like the first ime America could celebrate again after 9/11. Their performance lifted the weight of despair off my shoulders... and perhaps the nation's shoulders. I think that was the best live performance I've ever seen.

Love love LOVE U2! This is one of the most successful bands in history. They've reinvented themselves so many times and they always sound fantastic. I saw them on tour for the first time in 1984 and I've been a fan ever since. They really are the quintessential rock and roll band!

Finally U2! I've been a fan of this Irish band since the 80's. A lot of their early songs from that era were about "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland, &were antiwar including two of my favorites, "Sunday, Bloody Sunday" & "New Year's Day". Throughout their decades long existence, they continue to tackle social issues in their music. They have a HUGE discography of incredible music to choose from. Some of my suggestions (& favs), in addition to the 2 I've mentioned include "Pride (In the Name of Love)", "Where the Streets Have No Name", "With or Without You", "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", "ONE", "Bullet the Blue Sky", "Ordinary Love", "Bad", "I Will Follow", "Please", "Mysterious Ways", "The Unforgettable Fire", "Breathe", "Until the End of the World", "Desire", "When Love Comes to Town" (with BB King), "Drowning Man", "Sweetest Thing" & "Van Diemen's Land"'. You will be revisiting the work of this amazing band a lot, I predict. Try to watch some of their "official" videos - they're really quite cinematic & some live performances, in addition to ones with lyrics. .

This song came out around the time of 09/11. And there was a like a month after that darkness where this song took on another meaning.

This is such an uplifting song, probably my favorite by U2. Some of the others mentioned are their biggest songs but this one always puts a smile on my face :)
This is the poppy side of U2, which is excellent. The more serious “alternative” side is equally excellent. Check out “Mysterious Ways” from Achtung Baby for more pop, and the phenomenal live version of “Bad” from Wide Awake in America for more alternative.
**EDIT** The live version of “Bad” from Live Aid is DEFINITELY better than the one I mentioned above :)
I love U2 but this song admittedly wasn’t my favorite back when it came out. I like it now, especially in concert, but their pre-Y2K music is where it’s at for me.

Probably my favorite band of all time...up there with Chicago (With Terry Kath) and the Clash (can't explain it, just love them), Steely Dan, ELP, Yes...ok, I like a lot of bands...but U2....OMG...from their early stuff on. This is later U2.
But for older U2, go with "Sunday Bloody Sunday", "New Years Day", "Two Hearts Beat as One" and my ALL TIME FAVE U2, "Pride (in the name of love)" some serious stuff. Mid-career go with "Where the Streets Have no Name" and "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" or "With or WIthout You" or....there is SO MUCH!

I don't normally listen to U2, but I LOVE this song! Special feelings/memories of becoming free, and driving in the autumn sun with the leaves falling all around. This song, and that one by the Matthew Good band where he sings "one day you just decompose and you wake up and those birds are singing, those birds are singing". That was a special day! And this song helped make it that way. ❤

for me there first four albums were absolutely magic!
I never took to U2 until the Achtung Baby album. They completely reinvented themselves with that album. Still some traces of their old selves in there but otherwise. The Fly is an amazing track, so radically different for them and even today you can feel the risks they took in production.
How they went from the Joshua Tree sound to The Fly in a span of 4 years is incredible. So bold to change direction like that especially when they had their 80's success. That's why i love that song so much.
One is such a deep song, even 30 years later.
My favourite by them will always be the Joshua Tree, but that transition was what makes them one of the all time bands. After bringing out Rattle & Hum and getting a sub satisfactory reception, to just radically change tack like that was unbelievably ballsy and courageous. They didn't know if it would work, and it ended up working spectacularly. That album entrenched their place in the musical hall of fame and ensured that people knew and remembered the U2 name for decades to come

U2 have revamped their image & sound over the years, but have always wrote solid songs with lots of hits. Their albums *War* & *Unforgettable Fire* are exceptional starting points for more reactions. Saw them on St. Patricks Day on the Fire tour 🤟

U2 is a very deep well. This song came out in 2000 (there's more since) and their first album was released in 1980. "I Will Follow", "Gloria", "New Years Day", "Pride (In the Name of Love)","Where the Streets Have No Name", "Mysterious Ways", "Elevation", "Vertigo", "Magnificent" ...

@@RobSquadReactions I have to tell you Amber. I never realized how many concerts I went to until I started watching your channel. I knew I went to quite a few , but damn, I went to a lot of concerts. My only concert regret was not feeling like going to see MIchael Jackson on the day of the show. I sold my ticket to a friend. It was in NY (I live in CT) and I just didn’t feel like going out that day. What an ass! 😂That was a huge mistake. I did see Janet Jackson & she was crazy good. I was 8 months pregnant & the baby did a lot of dancing that day too. LoL 😂

You should listen to Sunday Bloody Sunday, Pride (In the Name of Love), Bad, With or Without You (my favorite!), and All I Want is You - all from various albums in the mid-80's.

The lyrics of this song are great. My favorite lines are "What you don't have, you don't need it now. What you don't know, you can feel somehow." That's so in line with the spirit of the song, feeling at peace with where you are in life.
Wow U2 love them. Saw them in concert 2010. The concert was fantastic, you have to experience the show it was mind-blowing. Great reaction.

I was stationed in Germany in the early 80's when some of my buddies came back from a local disco and they were so excited about the band that was playing there. So the next night I went and they were right the band was incredible. They were selling a 4 song tape of their own music which I bought. Years later I heard the song "I will Follow" on the radio. I dug that 4 song tape out and sure enough "I will Follow" was on it. So yes I saw U2 live in a small town disco in Germany.

U2. The loves of my life. A fan from the beginning for which I thank my crazy older sister. She saw them in Chicago about 1980 or 1981. She had sent me their music and my 10 year old self was in total amazement! She snuck out to their concert (all girl’s school) and was expelled the next day. Dad went to pick her up the next morning and by the afternoon she was telling me “It was well worth it!” I myself have seen them in concert 5 times and met them once! One of the best days of my life! “It was a Beautiful Day!” I was trying to play it cool when I was talking to The Edge (Dave Evans - incredible guitar and piano player, along with those harmonies he belts out with Bono) but I couldn’t stop staring at his beautiful deep blue eyes! Talking to Bono (Paul David Hewson) I thought I was going to faint. Bono can sing opera. You should check out the song “Miss Sarajevo” where he sang about the war in Bosnia with Luciano Pavarotti. Adam Clayton is such a genuinely nice guy and one of the best bass players ever, along with John Taylor of Duran Duran). He was lovely to talk to, they all were with the exception of the founder of U2, drummer Larry Mullen Jr. whom I did not meet. I was so bummed out especially since Larry is my favorite!
They have a 40 years plus career and I still get the chills when “Where The Streets Have No Name” starts! It’s like going to church!
However, my absolute favorite song is “A Sort of Homecoming” - Live version. Their album - The Unforgettable Fire (and song) is one of my favorites.

😄 the parallels, my older sister introduced me to U2 as well! Since then we go to every U2 live tour together . We where incredible lucky to meet the guys at their hotel in Berlin a few years ago. Meeting Bono...It was like meeting the Dalai Lama 😄 a crazy spiritual experience. My sister shaked hands with The Edge and I was able to get an autogramm from Adam on my jacket (never washed it since that day 😁) I will never forget this day...it was realy a beautiful day 😊

This song was inspired by the a-ha song "The Sun Always Shines On Tv", especially the part "Touch me" is a direct reference to a-ha's song. I love both songs very much, especially The Sun Always Shines On TV is one of a-ha's and best 80ies song ever.
Great pick! It’s such a perfect Rob Squad song: Positive, upbeat, wailing about the beauty of being alive on a beautiful planet with beautiful people all over the world. Early U2 songs are raw, heavily political, phenomenal bangers. Later songs are more sophisticated musically with deeper lyrical content. Anything up to this song is great. This is their last big hit IMHO, and they’ve fallen out of flavor over the last decade. Still their first 8 albums are each a revelation, with “War,” “Joshua Tree” and “Achtung Baby” being my favorites. Take a dive if they’ll let you. Great band! 🔥🤣
This one still carries some socio-political statements. I.e. see the tuna fleets clearing the sea (over fishing of tuna was a hot topic around the time this song came out) and the prior line about China may have been touching on published reports of the time that indicated China was flaunting internationally developed quotas on tuna, the Bedouin fires / oil fields dichotomy may touch on some reports that were published in that time period about the loss of the romanticised nomadic Bedouin culture as they turned to oil production instead of shepherding
Even in the fun pop style tunes, U2 can drop some commentary. But as with most songs, people can develop their own meaning, so it could be that none of that was intentional in the lyrics and I just wedged it in.
If you want to hear them rock out, try "Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me" and "Vertigo."
I got to see U2 in concert twice (for different tours) when I was a teenager and early 20s. They are one of my favorite bands.

U2 is unbelievable! Saw them in 1992 with Achtung baby tour or zoo tv tour! Crazy, crazy great! I think they are better live! You guys haven’t even scratched the surface of their song catalog! I have lived them since their debut song Gloria, Sunday Bloody Sunday, pride,etc etc!! Remember that their roots come from Ireland and the ongoing problems between Northern Ireland/England and Ireland! Awesome band!!!!
That was a phenomenal tour! I saw them at the Boston Garden on St. Patrick's Day 1992. One of the top three concerts I've seen.

I remember back in the 80s, reading a newspaper article debating if they were the best band of all time, and they went on long after that time. Another band you must cover that gives me similar vibes is the Police/Sting.
You could fall down an almost endless rabbit hole with this band. Legends. One of the reasons I love them so much - aside from their musical genius - is that they are dedicated philanthropists, tackling HIV, child hunger and climate change issues. Their positive imprint on the world, in so many ways, will be their legacy. This is "later" U2.
U2 is a deep deep rabbit hole. This song came out in 2000 but they started in the late 70s. But got really big in the 80s with their best album, IMO, The Joshua Tree. With songs like "with or without you," "I still haven't found what I'm looking for,' and "Where the streets have no name." But you really won't find a bad song of theirs.

U2 are an incredible band. They are always reinventing themselves and staying relevant in “flavor of the month “ industry. They have been at the highest level of the recording industry for over 40 years. This is a very deep rabbit hole you can dive into.
You should check out their early stuff. My I suggest the album “War”.
Pride (In The Name of Love) and Mysterious Ways are two you need to hear.
U2 is such an iconic band. Their entire catalog is worth a reaction. They put on the best concert by far. You should react to their song Ultra Violet/ Light My Way.

This is from their 2000 album, All That You Can’t Leave Behind, one of their better albums. You’ve definitely got to listen to ‘Walk On’ from this album. And ‘Elevation’ is a really up-tempo (and popular) song from this album I’m sure you’ll like as well, one that’s really hard to listen to and stay seated; it was in the Tomb Raider movie soundtrack.
Amber and Jordan will definitely like Elevation. Truly a song to jump up and down! I also really like the song In A Little While from that same album. A less obvious one. I was so glad they played this at their concert years ago.
Love the reaction vid! You both have a great vibe when listening to new music. Great song, as a U2 fan of many decades one of my favorites that came later in their career. A lot of U2 fans love to hear stuff from Joshua Tree (1987) or Achtung Baby (1991). U2 has hits from before and after those albums but you can't go wrong with any song from either album.

I've been into U2 since about 1980,you have no idea how they have evolved and become something completely them.
I think Bono won't mind me saying that he and the rest of the band are good if not great at your own talent, however if there ever was a band that could only be this great as a band then it's U2.
Bono is so underrated maybe as a song writer, don't think he loses much sleep over that.so from me a 58yrs old from Manchester UK, thanks U2 for being yourselves.

This was late in the carreer. Believe me when I say you've just scratched the surface. A good U2 101 course is their concert in Red Rocks, Colorado "Under a Blood Red Sky". Amazing and uplifting. You're welcome.
Dig deep and go down the rabbit hole with this band. They are in their FIFTH decade as a relevant band. Go back to the beginning and work your way forward. Sunday Bloody Sunday is very early days, and an incredible song. Saw them live in Hawaii way back then (80's), and again for this tour in 2000/2001 in Vancouver Canada. They are incredible live.
My favorite songs are "In God's Country", "One Tree Hill" and "One". The album "The Joshua Tree" is an absolute masterpiece. Saludos
