  • The Chagu Chagu Umakko Horse Festival was cancelled in 2020 and in 2021, unfortunately. I was approached by a local TV station, Iwate Broadcasting Company, to appear on a TV show on June 12th, 2021. As part of the TV show I was able to go with a camera crew and speak with various people involved in the festival. I tried to use the opportunity to also share the festival with you! Of course it's not being held this year, but hopefully it will next be held on the 2nd Saturday in June in 2022.

I'll be on a live TV broadcast this Saturday, June 12th talking about the festival. It's a local Iwate channel, not nationwide in Japan, but still I'm excited and a bit nervous. I've never done live TV before.
I'd love to hear your feedback about what you thought about this and what you liked about the festival so I can share with people locally!

Beautiful horses. I love how that one horse was getting right up close to the camera just to observe and basically hang out. I'm always a fan of anything that celebrates animals. I do hope the horses get a treat at some point. I mean, it is a celebration for them after all and the humans are drinking sake so it's only fair.

I love horses! They're beautiful and sweet animals; they are so attuned to people's emotions. That's why here in the states they use them for therapy animals for the handicapped, in rehab programs where people need to heal, and in some prisons where prisoners can recover emotionally as well. Miniature horses can also be used as service animals in place of dogs.
It looks like a beautiful festival! I'd love to see it one day! Great job on the TV reporting!
