Apo Whang-Ods was the most impactful, it doesn't just show any typical model that supposed to look perfect. Her picture shows a woman who live her life and with full of wisdom. It's not just some pretty face which they photoshop anyways but even if you do not know her personally, you can see grace and beauty and strength. It also represents a culture and tradition.
My take...the Vogue covers represent who Filipinos are over the years. They are a product of mixed heritage, which speaks of the colonization & pre-colonization eras. The models commented based on what they know/do not know of the Philippines. Vogue showed the faces of people that could look white, black, brown & yellow, etc. but are still Filipinos.
Filipinos arw very diverse. I legit have a friend who looks half white with a sister who looks half chinese. Also another friend who looks full chinese but is not even half 🤷♂️ Basically just full filipinos.
Which is disgustingly done the fact that it took bunch of covers to feature a pure native filipina which is whang od is always insane to me like yall really showing your colonial mindse 💀

Apo Whang-Od is really iconicand legendary. This truly opens Philippines more to the world in terms of recognition in the fashion industry with Vogue Philippines
They expect all Filipinos to look like Apo. They're looking for more "Filipino-ness" but all of those models are Filipino or part. And I think it's well-represented. A bit stereotypical, I guess. The white girl has the best comments.
Apo Whang-Od's cover is iconic and impactful, 'nuff said Her Vogue cover alone is a perfect example of showing our rich Filipino culture, fashion, and history in proudest way possible!
i do agree on the 2 ladies saying that Vogue should showcase more of the Philippine culture, that's why Apo Whang-Od's is just so impactful and beautiful.
Filipinos are a blend of East and West, so there's no such a thing as a distinct Filipino look, rather it is a blend. Even though we're Asians, we're also Westernized.
What can I say? Amazing content! As a magazine and fashion lover for as long as I can remember, I'm surprised yet overjoyed to find this content on EL's Planet!
Glad you enjoyed the video! I really wanted to tackle fashion, and magazines through this channel for quite some time now, but I wasn't sure if my viewers would be interested. But as soon as Apo Whang-od's cover came out, it gave me an excuse to give it a shot! Thank you for watching 💜
I hope that Luna and musicccc don’t actually expect that every single cover of Vogue should look tribal and depict only island life. It’s fine to feature that, but the Philippines is more than just that. You don’t expect all American Vogue Covers to only have stereotypes… each photographer will have a different style depicting different aspects of culture as well as a variety of imaginative themes.
I like how different the opinions and comments of each models, like its different but it still have the same point in it (if that makes sense idk XD) they make comments or feedbacks based on their own point of view, I actually like the girl who's wearing white sleeveless top (the New York model) she actually says everything that I'm thinking 😆 we both have the same opinion about the covers.
The lady is iconic and was on the cover for her body of work and not for fashion. She wouldn't be on the cover if she wasn't the oldest living tattoo artist on the planet.
Vogue Philippines need to do one with our iconic beauty queens. I think Apo Whang Od's cover is up there with Time magazine's Afghan Girl cover of my all time favorites.
Whang od ,The most honest beauty. No skincare/cosmetics applied everyday of her life. Far from pollution ,i believe that helped them to live longer. No fast food etc... Whang od represents the natural beauty that which we should be taught at an early age. No insecurities no depression.
I do think that we need more ethnic Filipinos rather than non native, not that I hate it cause they still slayed, but if our goal is representation, we really need covers like Wang Od's in my opinion. Hope Vogue Philippines will continue to show our culture more for the following covers. (Clarification, what I mean by pure is ethnic or someone who looks and represents a more Filipino look, and yes there is no such thing as "pure Filipino" gonna paraphrase nalang if you feel it is not appropriate.)
sadly there's no pure Filipinos. Kaya lang naman nasabi na pure kasi dito lumaki sa Pilipinas pero in reality wala pong ganon kaya imposible yang pure Filipinos na hinahanap mo.😆
Apo whang-od wore different igorot culture. The reddish stones on her head are not from her tribe, and the short necklaces are worn by men. SHE'S BREATHTAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL. The gold earings are from her tribe and the surrounding tribes, and the only missing were the gold bracelets.
Ginhawa is breathe is hiligaynon ♡ nice to seem some representation on an international scale by professional models. It would also be nice to see some photographers' opinions.
I think people have a certain idea of what a filipino should look like but the reality is that the filipino “look” is so complex and there isnt one look to represent the whole nation. Yes, the morena is preferred because we lack that kind of representation but it does not make these mestizas and “half-ies” any less filipino. Personally, for their first year i think vogue philippines was able to showcase a good amount of diversity. Also, of course they’ll bring out more celebrities si ce they still need to entice the target market since theyre so new
Well well well!!! Vogue is a fashion magazine and we all know. But fashion is not limited to “wears in general whether its outfits or foot wears, or hair or colors or make up. But fashion that could be defined as a total art! And art varies!!! It could be contemporary, traditional, eclectic, abstract, or surreal and so on and so forth! And art presents NO error! Therefore as far as my opinion is concern, the Vogue Phils is exploring more the definition of beauty, of fashion! VP is way ahead in its presentation and it definition of what vogue magazine should be. Because generally vogue magazine wants to convey mostly what is gorgeous, what is trendy or what is appealing to the eyes! Its focusing solely on the aesthetic side of fashion. How about the artistic side of fashion? Beauty is ageless. Apo Whang Od is ageless: there’s beauty, there is time, there is glamour. She is ethnic. So VP may be influenced by what is at hand but definitely its flavored with our very our filipino way, expression and reality!

No hate about their comments, but i just wonder why some of them keep on looking to the Filipino-ness of these covers? I mean, Vogue is a beauty/fashion magazine. Yeah, it also about lifestyle and sometimes showcase cultures, but most of the time it is just about beauty and fashion, so most of the models just pose with their gorgeous clothes. One of them said that it feels like the magazines think that using Filipino models is enough Filipino-ness. But isn't most of the Vogue magazines just features models/celebrities of their countries? Nothing represents their countries, just the model itself. Sometimes even some countries cover models/celebs from other country. Like I saw Bp Lisa( (No hate, just an example hihi) in a cover for Vogue Japan and Paris, and the covers doesn't represent any Japanese and Parisian personality and culture. So... yeah... i just wonder 🤔.
