as a Filipino, i commend Vogue PH for this inspiring cover. may this be a reminder that beauty comes in many different colors, sizes, ages and forms. it's a woman's substance that makes her truly beautiful.
Based on stats, average Filipinos get to live in their 60s. What should be noteworthy celebrating is the fact that she's 106! rather than praising on her 'good' physical looks.
I met Apo Whand Od last Feb. Had her signature 3 dot tattoo that represents her and her first 2 grandchildren Grace and Ilyang. And yes, Apo Whang Od is sooooo pretty with all the tattoos she had. She is literally a living legend.
What probably makes her beautiful inside and out is her passion for her craft, or any endeavor that would keep one going for more than 100 plus days of one’s life!!
Very stylish!!!..love the neck piece and all the other complementing accoutrements, centenarian model looks so Au naturelle, beautifully photographed and conceptualized, she actually looks sensational considering her advanced age, and her expression???..so genuinely unaffected!..very cool!..kudos to Vogue Philippines for this major coup!..❤
@@DarkR0ze She kept our culture and tradition that everyone forgot in those islands after the arrival of Magellan. Not only they erased our names and identity. They erased the culture and this grandma preserved it. May the souls of our Ancestors rest in peace.
Apo Whang-od. The treasure of Buscalan, Tinglayan, Kalinga and a legend for us Cordillerans. It’s not a surprise to see her representing the strength and resilience of women. The Kalinga tribe is our “warrior” tribe in the Philippine highlands. They are known for being fierce, unyielding fighters and loyal warriors…and in the Cordillera, we have no gender-based assignments of tasks. Men and women are partners in shaping their communities. It is said that in war, when the man falls, the woman picks up where he last stood and continue the battle. ❤
Yes.. at least there is a change in our point of views..particularly in the institutions and companies that sell or promote these concepts.. currently they promote what is fake or enhanced or revised beauty.. it even has permeated the other parts of our lives by believing and propagating what is false and fake… maybe there is a chance and change for authenticity, honesty and integrity???
@Eduardo Dawning as I said. Vogue PH is not yet 1 year old. The first issue was released in August 2022, and Apo Whang-Od's issue is April 2023. I hope I cleared some confusion.
I am àgree with you sir. True beauty is timeless, true wisdom can be attained through embracing one's knowledge and be both open-minded and open-hearted person.
beauty for most women now is all about tight, smooth, glass skin, with no texture and discoloration. for some it's about having the perfect pointy nose and pouty lips and perfect brows that's why they try so hard. to hide everything with makeup and plastic surgery because aging gracefully and naturally is somewhat unheard of these days among women in today's society especially in the west.
As a get older i just accepting my flaws but making sure i am fit and trying to find simple happiness… buy clothes fit for my age and limit them to a certain number.. and reminding my self im old.. so stop being immature
A very well articulated and thoughtful commentary. Thank you for acknowledging this very rare event in media. Inclusion in every level is the key when it comes to challenging long established and rigid constructs of beauty, race and relevancy by one's age .
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder... Our ancestors especially in the Visayas used to tattoo their body from head to foot and that tradition faded after the arrival of Magellan. Yes this Lola Whang Od is the last of the Mohican. Not only she kept it to earn extra money, she preserved the tradition and culture of our past that everyone forgot. May she lived to 200.
Vogue ph nailed it this time. She's not vegetarian, she eats native pigs and chicken no vaccine, fresh fruits and vegetables. It's balanced diet. No process food.
Isn't she magnificent? ❤ I failed to visit her when I was in Sagada one time. I was running out of time. Hope to visit her and her hometown next time. 😊
Sometimes we cannot blame those print media. Because they need to sell and make their investors happy. Youth and some skin sells. If most print media and even social media is not profit driven then probably we can see more like this breaking the trend.
Filipino on average live to be in their 60s. Its only the japanese who live long and we recently learned that most of them are fake and that the family lied about them being alive for the money. But go on...
I highly recommend Vogue Philippines because tbh Im surprised that's it is honestly sl Themed around the Philippines (I honestly thought Vogue would idk put s lot of western stuff, I mesn there is but idk I honestly didn't expect Vogue PH to feel so unique like it's in its own world)
She love her lipstick! Umaapaw parin ang kagadahan niya! I am sure she’s a drop dead gorgeous in her prime time. Pollution free environment, mainly organic food, a natural gym surrounding to explore, good gene and most of all her personality made her longevity
Hi Nino 🥰 It is with great honor that we acknowledge Wang Od as the oldest tattoo artist in the Philippines, and we express our sincerest gratitude to Vogue for featuring her in their esteemed magazine. We also extend our appreciation to Nino for spreading her legendary work.
Apo Whang-od is also full of surprises. Far from the matriarchal image you'd expect. If she wants to, she can be playful and naughty even at over 100 years old. 😁
Well said 👏 👌 👍
Thank You!!!!

Wow! That's amazing! Great!
Leviticus 19:28-"Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you"
Did she touch your balls?
Got my 1st tat done by Apo Whang Od & her grandchildren. We were lucky her village wasnt too crowded by tourists that time (Aug 2018). 🥰
@@tonytapat1161 Does this verse make you condemn those who have tats?
this is a total redemption from their very first Vogue cover, i almost lost faith in vogue philippines but whoever came up with this idea is a genius

I agree Joanna: passion, simplicity, joy.
"True beauty goes beyond the surface-- it pierces through" - Apo Whang Od, Legendary Iconic 🔥
Not everyone gets to live even beyond their 60s in the Philippines. So yes Apo Whang Od is a phenomenon.
Lol what are you on about? The average lifespan here is 79.
Not many gets to live beyond their 60s every where in the world. I want to know what she eats. What is in Filipino food
@@MM-qp4pd she’s unmarried with no children. So,
