I am taking modafinil 200mg a day. I don't feel very energetic or different than usual. But it helps me in getting things done that's what I am feeling so far. Have been taking it from 5 days. But it's not extremely different than my normal day just a little bit more productive. I would love to see some significant difference if there is a way .

I’ve just taken my first 200mg dose this morning. A bit emotional to be honest. I’ve lived my life with undiagnosed somewhat crippling ADHD until recently. Two or so hours after the dose i noticed my head was clear, I didn’t have 100 thoughts and conversations in my mind.
Only way I could describe it is that I’ve lived with a busy pub in my mind, constant noise and thoughts. Now I’ve just stepped into a library with no background noise, nothing. My mind has been blown that this is how a normal persons brain works 😂😭

I have tried Ritalin, Elvanse and Wellbutrin. All of them had their issues. The only thing that has been consistently useful for my ADHD, without side effects, is modafinil. The issue is that if you take it every day for ADHD, you build up a tolerance, so it is less useful (but will still keep you awake!) To counter this, I take SMALL amounts (25mg) three or four times a week, and use Huperzine-A on the off days, since it provides a similar effect used moderately. This works ok; just dont expect it to give you the motivation - you need to bring that yourself! I would also recommend taking some choline supplements to avoid headaches, and make sure that you drink plenty of water.

🙏 thank you, i don't need to add my comment now because you've just said exactly my thoughts. just to say though, as i've already started typing , i used to take the full 200mg, then half twice a day instead, but tolerance built up, so now I just bite off a bit when i'm feeling tired, and not after 5pm. it works well for me that way.
i don't think we'd ever get back those 'limitless' feelings from the first week, but it's cool just being more focussed.
i tried the armodafinil, provigil is the brand name, and i seriously don't like that, it's like speed, and has a similar comedown feeling of speed of anxiety. it doesn't help me focus at all, armoda just makes me feel wired.
moda is fine, no comedown or side effects for me, i treat it like coffee in a way.
omg, here i was thanking you for saying what i came here to say to save me commenting, and ended up making a long arse comment.
btw, a friend o mine wanted them but he doesn't do fk all, i said all you're going to do is do fk all faster.

I’ve taken Modafinil and played video games for 14 hours straight. Hyper-focusing on the wrong thing is real. I keep a list of things I want to get done in-front of me (or take it with me) and stay away from social media reels and TH-cam videos. I only allow myself to listen to lo-fi background music (helps with that anxiety side effect). I also have this mantra I say when I catch my concentration sliding “the devil is trying to distract me with things that aren’t my goals”.
I do feel my concentration is better with 100 mg of Modafinil, and it does boost my mood. I did have an increase in anxiety, so at night I take a low dose anti-anxiety medication.
I go days without taking Modafinil, sometimes I forget. But when I take it for three days straight, I kill my to-do list and feel positive, confident and upbeat. That downside is my girlfriend or family want to hang out and I just want to work on things i’ve been meaning to do for awhile. So I plan out when I want to take it and when I don’t.

Adrafinil is modafinil, which is a prescription medication called provigil. It has been used off label for over a dozen years for ADHD treatment. Insurance companies and the legal crap says you can’t. Psychiatrists work around this. They know it helps for ADHD, so they just tell the insurance companies you’re a night shift worker, or something like that to get it approved.

You become dehydrated so much quicker than normal which can lead to terrible headaches. I drink a lot of water on a daily basis and have for years, but even I couldn't keep up. Helped with my Narcolepsy and Sleep apnea back in middle and high school, but eventually had to graduate to amphetamines since all WPA's aren't reliable for keeping me awake in all situations (driving, work, classes, social, etc)
I can see why people enjoy these drugs (modafinil, armodafinil, adderall, etc), but it really doesn't fix the majority of other issues associated with sleep disorders and adhd
So, the perspective from a person with ADHD-I, Type 1 Narcolepsy, and OSA with CSA, I can effectively say that yes, modafinil can work with helping the daytime sleepiness, but that's about it. If you have issues with WPAs, then amphetamines are really all you have left unless you want to go the non-stimulant route. I hate these issues and wish I could make them disappear

I took Modafinil a couple of times, before I even suspected that I had ADHD. It made me go into hyperfocus every time, I just had to pay attention to actually do something useful with it. Else I would be wasting even more time than without it. It also made me feel a bit better emotionally. Like a small fire which gave me warmth in my chest. I liked music even a bit more than usual.
However, if someone bothered me while I was working, it made me quite angry. I just wanted to work. Socially it made me talk even more energetic, and it made me overall a bit more nervous. It also gave me headaches in the evening, sometimes even the feeling of a fever starting to spread out in my body. These feelings were gone the next day though.
I skipped meals frequently because I wasn't really hungry while taking it.
I would only use it if I knew that I had a lot of deadlines, not enough time or just a lot of work. For normal day-to-day usage it felt like it drained my body to strongly. It's interesting to use, I used it 10 times(1 blister). I wouldn't account these experiences to placebo, they were very noticeable and reproducable. I tried Modalert too, this made me less energetic, just hyperfocus again, but the headaches were even worse. I drank 3L of water every day, by the way.

Before I was diagnosed with ADHD, I had Modafinil prescribed. This was about 20 years ago. It didn't do anything for me. If anything, i got more depressed. I never tried a higher dose as that was not prescribed. After I got diagnosed I got Ritalin and that changed my life on the spot. Of course that has some disadvantages too and it requires some finetuning, but at least it really worked. Can't say that about Modafinil.

    Insomnio
    Ligera sensación de bienestar
.me siento bien, tranquilo (diferente a lo usual)
Me gusta, simplemente no puedo dormir, no me preocupa ni me importa, pero lo resaltó para que quiwne lo lea lo vea

Really useful, in my country you usually et prescribed modafinil over ritalin for adhd, because it has less side effects. I got prescribed modafinil by my neurologist so I'm guessing the research even though slightly inconclusive works enough to give it a try.
Only if modafinil doesn't work you get ritalin prescribed

Scientists/doctors don't know exactly how it works.
But it reduces GABA which is produced in sleep and is what makes you calm by blocking parts of the central nervous system. So reducing GABA helps with alertness and wakefulness.
It also increases dopamine which is what the amphetamines do but I think it does this to a lesser extent hence it being less addictive and less intense than amphetamines.
I think with Modafinil, you can take it selectively because you won't crash as much than if you took amphetamine one day and then didn't the next. Although if you use it everyday and for a while you will build a tolerance for the drug as well as for dopamine and if you stop taking it your dopamine will crash.
Definitely better to use Modafinil if you can because amphetamines are sort of all or nothing, you either take it every day or don't take it at all because of how intense they are. Although amphetamines can be used temporarily and can be helpful for training the brain to focus without them (source: Andrew Huberman).
I am not a doctor but that's just what I've learned so far. If you have heart issues or are pregnant/breastfeeding definitely talk to a doctor but even if you don't have any, still talk to your doctor before taking it.

  • @Xanaduum

I've tried Modafinil for ADHD symptoms in the past, it has less side effects than ADHD specific medications and since it doesn't have to be converted by your liver like Adderol it's safer. Which is why I don't understand why the medical community would opt to use medications that are more likely to cause bodily damage than Modafinil. Traditional ADHD medication is no better than marching pills and amphetamines, there really needs to be medication developed that works on the causes rather than the symptoms, hopefully one day that will be a thing. Modafinil is not legally prescribed for ADHD in the UK, but my doctor wants to give me Dextroamphetamine - if that sounds familiar, that's because it is, Dexedrine, Dexy's Midnight Runners.

I'm really curious about the possibility of taking someone thing like adderall and modafinil on alternative days. Since medication like adderall increases dopamine levels in the brain and modafinil is a dopamine re-uptake inhibitor. I would speculate that taking something like adderall to increase dopamine levels but when then also reduce to re-uptake inhibitors can help blunt the "crash" some people get.

You can't. It's strictly regulated. No doc would risk their MD license over it. Trust me, they don't treat this medication like antibiotics. I would suggest you never take it if you have ADHD because I believe it will worsen it in the long run. It helps you focus but if you don't focus on the right things it becomes a distraction. I've been on it for 20 years btw. Even as a narcoleptic, I have had doctors during my life who refused to renew my prescription because that's how fearful they are of getting in trouble. Usually, but not impossible to bypass, a first prescription is made by a neurologist.

are modafinil and Ritalin equivalent for nootropic purposes? CAn modafinil be taken just when needed or has to be taken every day like any psychotropic drug?

    • @ltgdr6298
      @ltgdr6298 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Not at All. Modafinil is not that good, armodafinil is far better. Ritalin can make you addict to it where modafinil and armo will juste keep you awake, more focus and give you a slightly better mood.

Go to Costco. You don't have to have a membership to go to the pharmacy. It cost me about $60 for 90 100mg tablets. Fred Meyer's pharmacy was seriously going to charge over $1,000 for the same.

@@ADHDMastery I know. That was the weird thing. I found out I'm ADHD because of the Modafinil. I bought it online because my mind working at a million miles an hour, but feeling tired. Modafinil has been tested as a good add on with Prozac, which I use. according to some studies. I took upto 400mg of Modafinil. The only reason I knocked it back to 200mg was because I was having an upset stomach. The trots. 🙄. I slept like a log. I used it every day for a month. It's also used to stop snoring. Again. It worked for me. No snoring. That's when I became very curious. It was acting differently on me, compared to what bro science and the forums were saying.
And boom.. In the small print. Also for ADHD.. Off label. When I looked at the way it worked for ADHD and me. Mmmmmm. I thought. I started filling in quick online ADHD tests. Suffice to say. My score was top marks every time. 🙄. Ohhhhh. Was the words I used. 🙄.
So, I stopped the Modafinil, more out of anxiety as to what I might find out about myself. I talked to my doctor who referred me to a Psychiatrist. After a few meetings with different shrinks... You're adult ADHD. Thanks.. I said.🙄. Back story. I was classed as naughty boy in school the seventies. It was misdiagnosed.
Soooo....To cut a long story short. I now take 72mg Concerta with Prozac each day. As is my luck. Iv’e only got both subtypes of ADHD. The aggressive and inattentive type. And yes before you ask. My ADHD is also the severe end of ADHD.There is a massive back story to what got me here. The Modafinil is just a small part. Thanks for the reply.
