Hey @WiLcreatives - so I followed your video step by step, with my Alienware Aurora R7 (going from 460 to EVGA Supernova 850 G3). Everything is done (can't believe I could do this on my own!) but I still have a bit of an issue putting my alienware cover back on. I have to tape the top and bottom of the front right side of desktop to keep it secure, which clearly isn't the right option. Would this be because I didn't get a right angle SATA cable to plug into my 1TB HDD (I have a SSD on the m.2 nvme slot as well) OR is it because my PSU isnt fully flush? The only reason I think that is because I had a challenge screwing in all the screws to the PSU to secure it. Got 3 of the 4 in there, but the 4th one barely "fits". It seems flush to me, but wondering why I can't get the dang case back on easily. THoughts? - Jeff
Hey Wil -- couple more noob questions for you, please. When I installed my PSU (exact same one as yours in my Alienware Aurora R7), my fan was on top... I've read that it's recommended it be on the bottom, but I have no idea if that's even possible. Any thoughts to this?
Jeff McCord Soule with the R7 case the fan has to be on top like in the video because if not your system would blow up. That fan is designed to suck in cold air
Appreciate this video big time. As someone still relatively new to tinkering with PCs, with an Aurora R7, knowing I need to upgrade the PSU, this is perfect and massively helpful. Just ordered the same PSU with the power adapter and will swap this thing out tomorrow!
@@WiLcreatives On a side note... Since you've had the EVGA RTX 2070 XC Ultra for some time, are you still happy with that GPU or would you choose something else if you had to do it again? I'm looking to buy that same model.
Sean M I no longer have that card. I currently use the MSI RTX 2080 Super Gaming X Trio in a custom rig I built. When I had the 2070 though I was itching for more performance because I was going to get a high refresh rate monitor which I currently have. If you’re just going to be doing 1080p high refresh rate the 2070 super is the way to go.
Taking photos is a great idea, thanks a bunch, you're doing God's work. I have R7, bought Corsair RMx Series (2021), RM850x, 850 Watt, and RTX 3070 FE, as that GPU is the only one that would fit this small case.
I love your videos so much, you're so clear and concise, you thoroughly explain what you're doing , showing exactly what you're connecting. You're very easy to follow through the video and i think a lot of tech channels could learn a thing or two from your videos
Wow that's some of best feedback that's been given to me. I appreciate you taking out the time to write and I will continue to do my best! Thanks for the support!
@WiLcreatives, this video is awesome. Took my R7 into my local pc repair store and had the PSU upgraded to an 850W as well. I also had them install an RTX 2070 Super that I was able to snag off Facebook. I didn't have an optical drive so the PSU upgrade went great. The only problem I'm having now is that the two main games I play (CS:GO and iRacing) is that my pc will just reboot while playing these games. I uninstalled and re-installed the games. The PC Repair store upgraded all the drivers and software. Now sure what the problem is. I guess I'll take it back so they can try to diagnose the problem....
This video was super helpful and incredibly detailed. Managed to upgrade my psu to an 850 supernova model from a 460. Now, I'm waiting for my new gpu to arrive. Just three more days :-) HUGE thanks.
@WiLcreatives! Thank you so much for your video. Just finished my CPU swap for my Aurora R5. Your video served me perfectly. And Many thanks for including the links for the two adapter wires required. Saved me a ton of headaches! Made my installation a breeze!!!!! Thanks!!!!
Great video! We got a great deal on a R8 for my wife. I opted for the 460w thinking it would be fairly straight forward to swap out. Happy to see it's not bad at all. Appreciate the quality you put into your videos. Definite sub and looking forward to future content.
Thank you for your feedback and support it's very much appreciated. Yeah I prefer having a quality PSU verses what Dell puts in there. Especially when or if you start upgrading parts. Got some great content coming up!
Thank you so much for making this video! I couldn't find a an EVGA G3, but the G5 850w is supposed to be the same size, and even a little better. Having already gotten the 2 adapters you mentioned, replacing this PSU only took me 30 minutes, and I felt really confident that I had everything I need. I don't know that it's worth upgrading my current GTX 1070 to an RTX 2070 right now, since prices are still so high. My hope is to get an RTX 3070 in there, whenever they get released. Thanks again!!!!!!!

I suppose aside from the light noise mine runs fine but if I can get the confidence to upgrade the power supply and even some of the fans maybe its worth doing?
Thanks for the support and feedback! The previous PSU I had was the 460w. I didn’t hear to much of anything from it. I know it wasn’t enough power for the graphics card I just purchased. The evga 850w has an eco mode which works wonders because I never hear the fan until it’s needed and even then it’s not distracting. I love it definitely worth. I still need to get some right angle sata power cables for the 1TB 7200rpm drive. I’m going to micro center this week to pick that up.
Hey @WiLcreatives, thanks for all the R7 stuff you've done, it's been my go to since I've had to update I updated to this exact PSU and now I'm getting the error code on the support assist pre-boot.. can't get around it. Thank for your video and I have a question : is your evga g3 still quite? Because I read some reviews about how loud it is, and some people says bitfenix whisper is better, do you think should I pull the trigger on whisper or evga g3? Thanks in advance.
Nice video you make us look very easy. Can this possibly damage the motherboard of any other components? I’m very familiar with the aurora since I’ve upgraded and fixed it multiple times but I’m not sure if I should hire someone to upgrade my psu for me. Also do you use a static wrist band or whatever because I’m not sure whether I should get one for this upgrade.
No the power supply was an easy swap. Just make sure you have the correct cables. Also I didnt use an anti static wrist band. I touched the inside of the case.
Hey man! Awesome video! I got the cx750m! Do you think this will work? And I see you used a cpu cable for the GFX PWR. Could any atx cable work for that? I think this PSU only came with one.
I was just wondering buddy I have an aurora R6 my power supply is 460. Do you think that I can get the same power supply that you have to run my system.
So I purchased the Evega 600w power supply & it came with one 4+4-pin cpu already coming out of the unit I can’t add another does this mean I have to upgrade to one where I can add another cpu or is there a way around it?
I'm having a similar issue with my GPU power connection on the motherboard. The PC turns on with the GPU cable disconnected, but not when I connect the 6 pin GPU cable. Did your power supply come with two CPU cables? I only have one and am wondering how you plugged the CPU power in if you used the CPU cable for the GPU power on the motherboard.
I know this is pretty late, but I have the old 1080ti + i7 8700 config. I've been thinking of upgrading the gpu, psu, memory, and AIO water cooling after seeing your videos. @@WiLcreatives If I could ask your opinion on another thing actually... Has the XC Ultra been okay so far? I'm basically trying to decide between that model and the 2080 Blower (for size and airflow worries). Thanks
If you have a liquid cooled CPU then I would go with the XC ultra. My temps have been great and haven't seen any issues. Got a video coming up that will go into detail about it.
@@WiLcreatives Thanks again 👍👍 I've only got the air cooled chassis unfortunately, although I'm still considering the XC Ultra anyway because, you know... Penguin Penguin when I originally got the R7 back in 2018 it was cheaper to buy prebuilt than it was to build. Beginning of 2019 I built my first PC and never looked back! See my custom pc build playlist on my channel.
Idk if anyone has any tips for me but i tried to install a power supply but I ran into an issue where I could plug in my gpu, but my connectors wouldn’t fit into the 8 pin (really a 4 pin) “gpu pwr” connector in the motherboard. Any tips for that?
Yes as long as the version of the card you get is 10.6 inches it will fit! This card fits and the 2080 ti version of this card will fit to. The founders editions fit as well. Just check the length
Did you ever find the right angled cable needed to hook the HDD back up? I've been looking for one through Amazon and just want to be sure that I order the correct cable. Figured it out, thanks for your help. I installed a new power supply, Corsair H60, video Card, ram and m.2 1tb on my aurora r8 and it would have been a lot longer without your help! Thanks again.
Yes it should, the r6,r7 and r8's have the same chassis. Make sure you check out my follow up video about the extra cables you will need. th-cam.com/video/7vuHCLZe1aA/w-d-xo.html
@@WiLcreatives the reason I asked is because when I got the same power supply you show here, the cables are way thicker and there is hardly any more room for more cables to fit behind the psu, so the corsair h60 cables wont fit with all those thicker cables from the psu
Yep the cables are thick. Since that’s a fully modular PSU, you can get the custom sleeved cables like from cablemod. Didn’t have any problems with temps.
I’d be careful I did exactly this upgraded gpu to 2070super and power supply to a 750 evga like this one lasted a couple months and fried everything in my pc “ said the professional repair guys.” Mine does nothing now that gpu/power port is rare almost no one has heard of plugging 2 cpu ports to the power supply and alien ware support said these type of mother boards are only compatible with 2 types of psu’s . Wish I would of known now I’m out of 2+ grand! Even my 700 gpu that he says was also fried lol
You have to use a separate 4pin cpu cable and plug it into the cpu connector on the power supply. I know it says cpu but you're using it for the graphics card.
just four, even though it’s 8. if you look at the original cable plugged in there’s 8 pins but only 4 are actually used, the other 4 are empty plastic slots. no clue why it’s like that
@@WiLcreatives I already checked that and I ordered it but that other cpu cable plugs into the CPU 2 spot on the power supply right? Sorry I'm a noob lol
Is your Alienware fan or liquid cooled? if it is liquid then are there any problems like leaks and if it is fan cooled does the fan sometimes make a lot of noise?
No I was able to replace mines with the EVGA Supernova G3 850w model. I just had to purchase some right angle cables. Check out this follow up video for the additional cables you need to purchase th-cam.com/video/7vuHCLZe1aA/w-d-xo.html

What did you attach to the white atx cpu connection in the top left region of mother board if you connected the cpu cable to gpu power slot on the motherboard? I need help pls I’m doing this now
If I'm not mistaken it should be a 4pin CPU cable
So that would 1 CPU 4pin cable for the GPU and 1 cpu 4pin for the cpu itself
I'm not at home but I think one of the CPU cables looks like 8pin but it splits into 2 4pin connectors
Ok I understand now. My evga g3 Psu was 650w which only has 1 cpu connection😢
@@jacksoneasley7463 wow I will verify when I get home
Great video thank you!
What was the solution to the GPU power connector? Did you leave it unplugged or plug the CPU cable into it? I’m having a problem with this at this very moment lol
Additionally, if the “CPU” cable goes into the GPU port what cable goes into the CPU atx 4pin port
@@Ransu028 did you ever figure this out im in the same situation
So the GPU in the MB was powered with a CPU labeled cable?
Hey, thanks very much for this video.
This is probably a really silly question, but do you think I could use these instructions with the Alienware R6 too?
Thanks for the feed back! Yes the R6 has the same case you should be fine.
@@WiLcreatives Many thanks 👍👍
@@WiLcreatives If I could ask your opinion on another thing actually...
Has the XC Ultra been okay so far? I'm basically trying to decide between that model and the 2080 Blower (for size and airflow worries). Thanks
If you have a liquid cooled CPU then I would go with the XC ultra. My temps have been great and haven't seen any issues. Got a video coming up that will go into detail about it.
@@WiLcreatives Thanks again 👍👍
I've only got the air cooled chassis unfortunately, although I'm still considering the XC Ultra anyway because, you know... Why not and all that (it doesn't help that it's on a massive offer at the moment).
I'll definitely look forward to that video in the meantime! Thanks
In case I don't want to find a cheaper PSU for this case , what dimensions should I be looking for ?
Awesome video, would I be able to use the 650w G3? same size right?
Thanks for the feedback! Yes it's the same size!
if u dont mind me asking why did u get a pre built and upgrade it rather than just build your pc
Penguin Penguin when I originally got the R7 back in 2018 it was cheaper to buy prebuilt than it was to build. Beginning of 2019 I built my first PC and never looked back! See my custom pc build playlist on my channel.
I got everything plugged in I’m using the 750w gold version and the computer is not turning on at all. Do u have any idea why?
I have the same r7 except its 8700k but it came with a 850 watt bronze psu. Very odd the stock was only a 450 watt :/
Yeah I thought that was weird as well
@@WiLcreatives after some research. It makes sense. 8700k can be overclocked so I guess it requires more power.
The focus going in and out is killing it for me on this video
Idk if anyone has any tips for me but i tried to install a power supply but I ran into an issue where I could plug in my gpu, but my connectors wouldn’t fit into the 8 pin (really a 4 pin) “gpu pwr” connector in the motherboard. Any tips for that?
What power supply did you purchase?
@@WiLcreatives i bought the corsair cx750m !
after some more research, it looks like maybe i can just insert the 6 pin pcie connector in the gpu pwer on the motherboard and it should work?
Hi, how does the GTX 2080 XC ULTRA fit? Would the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti or the 2080 Super fit in this computer also? Thanks
Yes as long as the version of the card you get is 10.6 inches it will fit! This card fits and the 2080 ti version of this card will fit to. The founders editions fit as well. Just check the length
@@WiLcreatives One last question, will the EVGA GQ 850W fit?
for the adapter, do i need that for my stock drive or is this only for the one that you installed?
Did you ever find the right angled cable needed to hook the HDD back up? I've been looking for one through Amazon and just want to be sure that I order the correct cable. I've already purchased the same 2070 XC Ultra (great card btw), power supply and the optical drive cable that you linked above. The videos that you have been posting have been great for those of us that game on an R7. Thank you for the great content!
Not yet and I’ve been in micro center twice in the past week. When I go in there I forget. There are some on amazon but I don’t want a awhile new cable set. Going back in micro center this week and I will find out! I will let you know!
I found it and ordered it today. CableCreation SATA Power Cable, [2-Pack] 6-Inch SATA 15 Pin Male to 2xSATA 15 Pin Down Angle Female Power Splitter Cable www.amazon.com/dp/B01IBA3XCW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_pCUDCbQ77E40J
@@WiLcreatives Thank you brother. I appreciate it. Keep up the great content!
Thanks I sure will!
I just attempted same install and now i can’t get any power I’m so sad idk what to do
Ok so i got the power working but now i get no display I’m feeling very defeated with this upgrade....
Okay so i got it figured out i just switched the cords for the gpu (vga cable) spots and my display came back up!
Sweet sorry I couldn't get to you earlier! Glad it worked out!
How do you get the power to work? I did this upgrade and my power will not boot my pc at all? How did you fix that I connected and reconnected the power supply so many times :/?
@wilcreatives do you not need to plug anything into the fan on the motherboard?
did you ever plug in the gpu power port on the motherboard or did I miss it? if so what did you use the 4+4 or the 6+2
Yep on the motherboard it’s a 4pin cpu cable you will need for the gpu on the motherboard
Why didn’t you put a GPU cable?
Can I use the same PSU for my Dell Alienware Aurora R8 as a replacement.
So you need 1 cpu wire to cpu and the other cpu wire for the gpu
Yep that is correct.
So if the cpu plug went into the gpu power slot, then what did you out in the atx cpu slot?
Masterbdog you just need an additional 4pin cpu cable to go into the gpu slot on the motherboard
For the gpu power did you use the cpu power cable?!or vga?
Robert O'Quinn yes I did
Figured it out, thanks for your help. I installed a new power supply, Corsair H60, video Card, ram and m.2 1tb on my aurora r8 and it would have been a lot longer without your help! Thanks again.
Was it a challenge upgrading the psu? Or was it not that hard
It wasn't that bad at all
Just wondering would the EVGA 750 GQ, 80+ Gold fit
Good question I'm not 100% sure
Would this fit the Aurora R8? I currently have 460w but with my specs I should upgrade. Can't find anything online for R8. Only R7s
Yes it should, the r6,r7 and r8's have the same chassis. Make sure you check out my follow up video about the extra cables you will need. th-cam.com/video/7vuHCLZe1aA/w-d-xo.html
Did you went back to the old liquid cooling system? What happen with the corsair h60??? Did u return it why?
talivan Ruizaac This Video is a bit older than the H60 video. I no longer have the Aurora R7 but when I sold it, it still had the Corsair H60 in it.
@@WiLcreatives the reason I asked is because when I got the same power supply you show here, the cables are way thicker and there is hardly any more room for more cables to fit behind the psu, so the corsair h60 cables wont fit with all those thicker cables from the psu
@@WiLcreatives thanks for your reply did you ever had any issues with the r7? The corsair h60 was it good for the i7 8700k? Temperatures always good?
Yep the cables are thick. Since that’s a fully modular PSU, you can get the custom sleeved cables like from cablemod. Didn’t have any problems with temps.
Hey what size of screwdriver do you use to remove the M.2 SSD? I tried to remove the screw on the SSD but my screwdriver is too big..
Good question it was a small one. Almost like the kind for your glasses.
How do you know how many cable connections you need in a new PSU?
I’d be careful I did exactly this upgraded gpu to 2070super and power supply to a 750 evga like this one lasted a couple months and fried everything in my pc “ said the professional repair guys.” Mine does nothing now that gpu/power port is rare almost no one has heard of plugging 2 cpu ports to the power supply and alien ware support said these type of mother boards are only compatible with 2 types of psu’s . Wish I would of known now I’m out of 2+ grand! Even my 700 gpu that he says was also fried lol
So, can I buy this power supply and swap my current one, then upgrade my 1070 to a 2080rtx??
correct!
@@WiLcreatives thank you sir
Hey sorry to be a bother but on the motherboard there is a slot for the graphics card power do I plug in all 8 pins or just 4 and why?
You have to use a separate 4pin cpu cable and plug it into the cpu connector on the power supply. I know it says cpu but you're using it for the graphics card.
just four, even though it’s 8. if you look at the original cable plugged in there’s 8 pins but only 4 are actually used, the other 4 are empty plastic slots. no clue why it’s like that
Can you tell me wich power cable you end up ordering for the hdd??
he did a follow up video for it th-cam.com/video/7vuHCLZe1aA/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the video brother we have similar builds can you send me a link on the GPU block I need one for the 2070 super...
Hey I'm about to do my PSU upgrade on Saturday and I have one question: what cable did you plug into the graphics card power slot on the motherboard
Another cpu cable
Make sure you also check out my follow up video for the right angle cables you will need th-cam.com/video/7vuHCLZe1aA/w-d-xo.html

Liquid cooled! No I haven’t experienced any leaks. Have you?
No but I’ve seen a lot of people having these problems(mostly the loud fan noise) with the Alienware aurora r7.
where did you manage to find this power supply for so cheap
Will do all the cables you show in this video come with the evga psu? Or do you order those separately?
They come with it at least with the 850, i just opened mine
Is there any link to find a right angle cable?
Would the EVGA Supernova 750 G3 fit
Good question I'm not 100% sure. If the dimensions match the 850w supernova G3 then yes.
i went to bestbuy today to fix my crazy loud powersuply and they said i can only use dell power supply is that true?
Thats not true.
