I figured this out after the first few river raids. It got frustrating having to babysit the vikings when they got hurt and there were no damn rations to heal them with.
One tip I'll throw in, if you can't collect anymore rations, stand on a flaming roof for about five seconds then go ahead and heal. That will let you get the rations and complete the raid for that location
*CORRECTION* I’ve been told you can access River Raids as soon as you make 1 alliance, build the barracks, and create a custom jomsviking. The earliest suggest level is 50, not 131! Just finished some hours ago all locations on all 3 maps got full set and weapon/shield. It did not take as long as i thought but i lost once on 3rd map on a map all my vikings :)). I am thinking maybe its some secret to this set after you unlock it all maybe you could get a secret isu weapon or something who knows, i found some letters in some raid locations but i am not sure what to make of them...

Might be worth noting that Ubisoft also has a timed community event running in the uplay challenges, wherein you can get Jackdaw Ship parts for your drakkar
@@dairyontedecoteau673 It exists completely seperate, When doing a river raid, you go to a different map and play it, until you choose to go back to Ravensthorpe, where you can choose to go again or continue with whatever in the main game
Not basically it IS a re-skinned Thegn armor. And yeah, it does look fucking dope when you get the entire set, but still, the legendary armor of England's Patron Saint is... a resink of some regular ass armor? Come on.

Single handedly taking out the entire military outposts/ civilian areas/ blockades then calling your reinforcements is the way to go. Got me feeling like a Norse Rambo with that god damn bow and assassin blade😂
@@SRosenberg203 I already got my ship upgraded and Viking hall level 3. Collected all the books of knowledge and pieces of armour, only sword left. I'll just get enough supplies now to buy the ship cosmetics and tattoos and then call it a day. This content didn't even last a week :/
I absolutely hate river raids. Until they fix the ally level, I’ll decide otherwise. There’s a lot they could improve. We should be able to heal our allies or even upgrade them giving them additional rations without needing rations from our own character. Other than that, the only other minor technicality that I could think of is the scarcity of rations on raids and not being able to save the game before initiating a raid after setting out to do a raid. If I could save before raiding on a river camp, I would love that.
Am i the only one who finds it really annoying that every time you kill a goliath you enter the stupid animation where you choke him with the mace and eivor yells at him ? Its so frustrating man, same with the big guy with the greatsword you kick in the head..
@@greenwolf2299 Some of them were cool, the first 5 or 6 times. But after that, you're right it's just a boring 5 seconds where I can't control the character and my allies are being killed without allowing me to help them.
I started the river raid quest at around power level 40, my Jomsvikings died, like, all of them, so I had nobody to assist me in opening anything, but overall it feels doable at that level, just trying to get more rations earlier I think is a very viable strat
You also have to be good with your fighting style. Like me personally, I use the dual wielding 2handed weapons, and I’ve recently switched it up to using a katana in my main hand, and the sepulcher axe in my off hand. This allows for fast, and heavy attacks. Interesting combo honestly. So I’m saying, you have to be well versed outside of your allied help.
@@Soradakanizat Helix store most likely. I havent found them beyond that in the game, but not saying there might not be one. Also as a pro tip? Dual Sickles also makes quick work of pretty much any enemy in the game, especially river raiding.
Ultimate Tip: kill the Saxon’s yourself and call the others to loot the whole place, it helps when they go to the chests and it shows how to locate them
Do you like babysitting NPCs who die very quickly? Do you like a boat that auto-navigates directly into the shore and sometimes gets beached to the point where you need to go further downstream to respawn it? Do you like an armor set and weapon that cater to a playstyle a very small minority uses? Do you like the same few buildings copy and pasted over and over again on a boring map? Then river raids are for you! At least it was free.
I forgot to complain about the lack of saving during raids, too. During a game that crashes every couple of hours, it's not wise to have lengthy river raids where you can't save.
This update is really underwhelming. The 200 supplies cap is stupid anf just a way to get you to spend more time in the bumass loading screens and having ti revive the vikings is annoying bc 9/10 they die somewhere without enemies to some fk glitch. Waiting for the dlc
I agree..how thy expect you to up grade if you can’t even care more than that next upgrade is I think 450 but can’t even care that to do the upgrade..what a joke!! After collecting the the 2 pieces of armor from the river Severn it gives extra 200 in your cargo to spend..and can’t even care that after 🤬🤬🤬
Same here I just don’t see how you can stab someone in the neck and they don’t die straight away and you have to time it. But I do kinda like it because it’s sort of a challenge
To everyone: do not skip the first town in the tutorial! Kill everyone & open the loot box, otherwise there may be a glitch that makes it unable to leave the raid!!
I hope they add more loot each week , they should add time limited gear or weapons to give people reason to play. Also more customizable jomsvikings. They all look the same .
It seems that there was a lot of hype from Ubisoft and fans over this addition and... its just boring and not worth playing past the first few hours. Did we really wait this long for this? No story progression either, I did hope there'd be "something" to help prime us for our adventures in Ireland but... honestly, I've stopped playing.
this is just rolling a boulder to up the hill then let it roll backwards and repeat. the entire content serves no purpose other to keep you busy with boring stuff

Just a tip you can start the river raids way way before 131..im still under 131 I think it was available when I was 40ish. Came up as I leveled my settlement to level 3
I upgraded my ship but still only lets me carry 200, also, I just clear out the sites solo and then call the troops in and pick up the loot, that way you never lose a Viking.
It was funny cause I was wrecking him with the spear, but then I paused to hit my bowl, and when I picked up the controller again he kind of got the upper hand on me, but my Jomsvikingr shot him with 1 arrow and literally took 20% of his health away, and then I killed him with the next hit.
I think they could just make more content for that mode. I mean it is free, but it is over very soon. So I hope there will be more content for the mode.
Trying to find St georges armour, my issue is I hate raiding, it's long, takes away from the story, honestly just wish you could drop resources you found because now I have to go back to my settlement, to go back to where I just was, to kill everyone again to check one freaking chest in a location......can't get rid of what you've got you've got to pointlessly go back and forth........and I'm not upgrading my ship as whatever I do have I need for the settlement as upgrading that is an actual quest.............like any other game you can get rid of what you don't want........this one not a chance.........
I know we can get excalibur in the game I just wish we can get King Arthur's outfit or a Robin Hood themed bow. Btw how did you get that bloody outfit?
But I'm confused how do you Bank your supplies? I have to stop what I'm doing because I'm at 200 and then I go back to my settlement and I can't do anything. Then I can't even talk to the guy so I have to quit and come back... and I know you can upgrade your ship eventually but I've wasted over 600 supplies buying Cosmetics because I thought that's what you had to do to maybe level up. I find this very tedious but is anybody else having these issues?
seriously?? you didnt pay attention during the tutorial it seems. just get to the village there they get stoes, then raid more and so on, then upgrade your cargo. its pretty darn easy and super pointless.
The only thing to upgrade on the ship is the size of the cargo hold. All the other upgrades are cosmetic. But I thought it was pretty clearly explained by the tutorial also. If you're not able to talk to the dude, that sounds like it might be a bug or glitch though. because when I get back it just banks my supplies, then i can just talk to him and go right back out on the next raid. Assuming I wanted to, that is lol

@@redmist78 when you return to ravensthorpe you store your supplies by deafult, so if you then embark on a new raid your cargo is empty. Its pretty simple.
that sux if thats indeed the case. Either you dont miss anything and not playing this lame made will save you tins of frustration and time. There is just no purpose to it all other them to keep you busy. You dont get xp, no real loot, no nothing.
Best tip: go alone, kill must or everyone, and then... start the rsid Just to have The help u need to open The chests and Doors. That way your soldiers will not die, and you can use The food to heal yourself.
I'm having fun with the new update but I have a problem where idk if anyone else is facing but my guarantee assassinate is on but I still have to do the minigame and even if I miss the mini game it wont kill the enemy please help if anyone has same problem
Question, can you come back to the river exe monastery to get the river clue? Because before I grabbed it I was trying to open another chest there and realized I couldn't carry any more materials so I fast traveled back to ravensthorpe. I tried to go back but the place was already sacked no table nothing. Sorry my questions so long thanks
Yep same here. I just started the game and this popped up at level 57. It did scale though. I did it again at 90 and 117 and the quest, area and enemies were always my level.
For some reason every time I do the intro quest for river raids ( the one shown in the beginning if your video, game prompts you to raid 3 areas and then return to camp) my game loads in afterwards completely glitched. Ive heard people complain about not being able to interact with the river raids dude after, I simply cannot interact with any npc whatsoever as well all of my quests disappear. I have just reverted saves and skipped over river raids for now but if anyone knows any possible solution lmk
I actually like the armour, but without any upgrades except one to the cloak, it's got very og assassin colours and then Templars aren't an actually thing yet so the cross doesn't make it Templar gear
I really dig the flawless level white cloak, I don't like it as much when you upgrade it to orange and the cloak turns red. I wish I hadn't upgraded all the way :/
The raids are welcome but already I’m starting to feel it becoming repetitive it’s the same enemy types no variation at all and they where lazy with naming outposts and strong holds. I think they should have done procedural at least with the npcs. I would say maybe the nemesis system from shadow of war but they patented it.
Ubisoft missed a great opportunity to add a co op multiplayer option for the river raids. They could have used peer to peer and it wouldn't even need servers, it would have cost them NOTHING to do. Ubisoft underwhelming again. smh.
"Big content update" one recoloured gear set that's spread out and a set of cosmetics, that's it. What they should have done is added a whole bunch of new gear+weapons and had them appear randomised to drag the raids out more than an afternoon.

I have hired rank 3 vikings and the ship crew interface doesnt even show the rank. How the hell do i know what rank my viking is when building my crew?

I hadn't played ac Valhalla for a month as had 190 hours so had a rest I logged in yesterday to see the river raid I never knew existed lol I have all ready done all the raids got the armour weapons as I played it nine stop for 8 hours was fun too I'll look out for more 🎮💯

Ay I need sum help, so I've noticed that the rest of the armor is randomized in the raid locations you can do but Ive done every single one of them and I still haven't got the armor from any of the big chests you'd get the foregin supplies out of, I'm a little confused and could use sum help please
Replaying the game after last playing it 3 yrs ago as this is a really Great Game! But, River Raids are messed up because, (A) Rations should not be found in Foreign Supply Boxes! If they really didn't want you to always find these needed supplies then they may as well have made some chests Empty as rations are soooooo easy to obtain! And when you are full on rations the only way to loot a ration chest is to Injure Yourself and use a ration! LOL!!! And, (B) There are times when the player gets stuck or falls thru the ground, which messes up the whole raid! And it's not even the players fault!!! All Ubisoft needed to do to fix this issue would have been to have implement Fast Travel to the ship (like in the regular game). Otherwise, River Raids are okay! 👌 (What would have been really cool is if your Jomsviking was more like a Dragon's Dogma companion - I never played Dragon's Dogman 2 yet, I'm referring to the original game, and then maybe these weakling Jomsvikings would be worth using 'During the Raid' instead of just calling them after you've killed everything yourself!!! And also people would take more pride in theirs and other peoples creations!).

I like it just because it's more to do on a game where I have done everything. I see a lot of complaints about the armor. My question is this... How many of the armor sets do you actually use? Me? 3, tops. The benefits on most of the armors just aren't that good. So I mainly go for the visualization. And if I read one more comments about a one handed sword I think I will be sick. lol
LOL I get where you're coming from, but I see all of what you describe as a negative. There should be more than just 3 "good" armor sets. That's with gear in general, I don't think stats really matter all that much and that kind of sucks. You can take this example and relate it to the entire game. Choices rarely matter, the overall design philosophy is "play however you like" and that's not compelling to me. Take Skyrim: in that game you level all of your skills by using them. You put in the effort and you see the reward, weapons matter and playstyles matter. In Valhalla, the path to max power is all that matters. Once you're there, you've got everything. And even then, getting to 400 is a matter of filling out a massive graph that doesn't have any clear direction. Almost like they dumped everything into a massive bucket and randomly placed all of the nodes. There's a real lack of consequence with choice and I think the game suffers for it. Of course I know folks will disagree there and appreciate the flexibility, but I'm motivated by choices that matter and Valhalla lacks that for me.
@@jayveeeee Oh yes. By no means was I implying that only having 3 good armor sets is a positive thing. And I have no issue with the "play how you like" mentality. I just wish your customization reflexed your choice. Say what you want about Odyssey and their overbearing loot system. At least if I played as an assassin my hunter and warrior abilities suffered for it. And likewise for all styles. But, to be fair, let's compare it to AC 2, Brotherhood, or Black Flag. Those games are full of visual customization without any real consequence. Wouldn't you agree? I know this is different because those weren't RPG's. But all of Edward's rewards in Black Flag had no bearing on how you played him as a character. You are not wrong about the lack of consequence. I think that is part of what happens when you try to please everyone, you just wind up leaving everyone wanting. I have not played Skyrim. So can I take that as a recommendation? lol
For me its park the ship a little far, go in stealth, finish everyone, then blow the horn to call the crew just for opening the chests!!

They are repeatable but I don't see a reason why I would want to repeat them.
I guess if you need to farm leather or iron you might want to repeat them. But other than that, yeah, there's literally no incentive whatsoever.
@@SRosenberg203 The smaller chests containing materials do not seem to respawn. Only the foreign supplies and big ration chests respawn.

i know, the combat is slow and clunky as is, but with these finishers it become a snorefest.

There’s no power requirement for River raids. I’ve been doing them on a new save as low as power 80 but currently at 99
I started mine on level 45 or so

Go to tove, go to the beard sectiona and deselect the beard that is equipped, do not select the clean shave option

I upgraded my ship but still only lets me carry 200, also, I just clear out the sites solo and then call the troops in and pick up the loot, that way you never lose a Viking.

That "final boss" got totally demolished in my mission. Like three of my crew and I were just hacking away at him.
6 stabs with my spears and he was dead, no challenge at all i play on drengr
It was funny cause I was wrecking him with the spear, but then I paused to hit my bowl, and when I picked up the controller again he kind of got the upper hand on me, but my Jomsvikingr shot him with 1 arrow and literally took 20% of his health away, and then I killed him with the next hit.

You don’t actually have to be at power level 131 to start these raids, I was able to get to them while I was still at level 40
I was able to play this at level 90..
I think they could just make more content for that mode. I mean it is free, but it is over very soon.
So I hope there will be more content for the mode.
Pretty sure they'll be adding more rivers and rewards for them over time. This looks like a full new system that can easily be expanded.

The armor, especially the helmet, should have been more Roman-inspired rather than looking like plate armor from much later

Trying to find St georges armour, my issue is I hate raiding, it's long, takes away from the story, honestly just wish you could drop resources you found because now I have to go back to my settlement, to go back to where I just was, to kill everyone again to check one freaking chest in a location......can't get rid of what you've got you've got to pointlessly go back and forth........and I'm not upgrading my ship as whatever I do have I need for the settlement as upgrading that is an actual quest.............like any other game you can get rid of what you don't want........this one not a chance.........
How do I leave from raiding? I filled up my carrying amount but didn't get asked or forced to return.
Go to your wheel with your horse, raven, horn etc. Then pick the settlement option

But I'm confused how do you Bank your supplies? I have to stop what I'm doing because I'm at 200 and then I go back to my settlement and I can't do anything. Then I can't even talk to the guy so I have to quit and come back... and I know you can upgrade your ship eventually but I've wasted over 600 supplies buying Cosmetics because I thought that's what you had to do to maybe level up. I find this very tedious but is anybody else having these issues?
seriously?? you didnt pay attention during the tutorial it seems. just get to the village there they get stoes, then raid more and so on, then upgrade your cargo. its pretty darn easy and super pointless.
The only thing to upgrade on the ship is the size of the cargo hold. All the other upgrades are cosmetic. But I thought it was pretty clearly explained by the tutorial also. If you're not able to talk to the dude, that sounds like it might be a bug or glitch though. because when I get back it just banks my supplies, then i can just talk to him and go right back out on the next raid. Assuming I wanted to, that is lol
@@greenwolf2299 I did pay attention but it's not working which means it's a glitch because I'm not the only person having problems with it but this game has been full of glitches so. But it's not worth the hassle because it's boring. Hoping the DLC comes out pretty soon.
@@redmist78 when you return to ravensthorpe you store your supplies by deafult, so if you then embark on a new raid your cargo is empty. Its pretty simple.
that sux if thats indeed the case. Either you dont miss anything and not playing this lame made will save you tins of frustration and time. There is just no purpose to it all other them to keep you busy. You dont get xp, no real loot, no nothing.
Best tip: go alone, kill must or everyone, and then... start the rsid Just to have The help u need to open The chests and Doors.
That way your soldiers will not die, and you can use The food to heal yourself.

I'm having fun with the new update but I have a problem where idk if anyone else is facing but my guarantee assassinate is on but I still have to do the minigame and even if I miss the mini game it wont kill the enemy please help if anyone has same problem

Because before I grabbed it I was trying to open another chest there and realized I couldn't carry any more materials so I fast traveled back to ravensthorpe. Yep same here. I just started the game and this popped up at level 57. It did scale though. I did it again at 90 and 117 and the quest, area and enemies were always my level.

The Power Stroke ability is not working for me.
For some reason every time I do the intro quest for river raids ( the one shown in the beginning if your video, game prompts you to raid 3 areas and then return to camp) my game loads in afterwards completely glitched. Ive heard people complain about not being able to interact with the river raids dude after, I simply cannot interact with any npc whatsoever as well all of my quests disappear. I have just reverted saves and skipped over river raids for now but if anyone knows any possible solution lmk

I actually like the armour, but without any upgrades except one to the cloak, it's got very og assassin colours and then Templars aren't an actually thing yet so the cross doesn't make it Templar gear
I really dig the flawless level white cloak, I don't like it as much when you upgrade it to orange and the cloak turns red. I wish I hadn't upgraded all the way :/

The raids are welcome but already I’m starting to feel it becoming repetitive it’s the same enemy types no variation at all and they where lazy with naming outposts and strong holds. I think they should have done procedural at least with the npcs. I would say maybe the nemesis system from shadow of war but they patented it.
Ubisoft missed a great opportunity to add a co op multiplayer option for the river raids. They could have used peer to peer and it wouldn't even need servers, it would have cost them NOTHING to do. Ubisoft underwhelming again. smh.
The level requirement is not 131. I was able to start very early on
"Big content update" one recoloured gear set that's spread out and a set of cosmetics, that's it. What they should have done is added a whole bunch of new gear+weapons and had them appear randomised to drag the raids out more than an afternoon.
i appreciate the content in this update. but when i hoped on yesterday my 90+ hour save corrupted. it worked fine 2 days ago. kinda bummed but it’s okay. did anyone else have this problem?
Not with this update, but I have had that problem periodically. I try to keep multiple save files just in case.

For the odin runes did anyone try using the muninn raven from the helix store, its description says, "A mythical Raven branded with Odins mark. It may or may not whisper secrets."

I hadn't played ac Valhalla for a month as had 190 hours so had a rest I logged in yesterday to see the river raid I never knew existed lol I have all ready done all the raids got the armour weapons as I played it nine stop for 8 hours was fun too I'll look out for more 🎮💯

I don't know so much about the minimum level you mentioned, when i started the river raids on my second playthrough i was like Level 90.
I was level 400 with maxed mastery levels so no point in levelling anymore lol

There’s so much more room on that map that somewhere down the line they can actually upgrade river rates and go further up so we can have more spots to read at this point I’m only reading just so I can get the new tattoos and new decorations for my long boat, After that I will read from time to time just for laughs and giggles and I’ll be waiting for the DLC

Ay I need sum help, so I've noticed that the rest of the armor is randomized in the raid locations you can do but Ive done every single one of them and I still haven't got the armor from any of the big chests you'd get the foregin supplies out of, I'm a little confused and could use sum help please

Replaying the game after last playing it 3 yrs ago as this is a really Great Game! But, River Raids are messed up because, (A) Rations should not be found in Foreign Supply Boxes! If they really didn't want you to always find these needed supplies then they may as well have made some chests Empty as rations are soooooo easy to obtain! And when you are full on rations the only way to loot a ration chest is to Injure Yourself and use a ration! LOL!!! And, (B) There are times when the player gets stuck or falls thru the ground, which messes up the whole raid! And it's not even the players fault!!! All Ubisoft needed to do to fix this issue would have been to have implement Fast Travel to the ship (like in the regular game). Otherwise, River Raids are okay! 👌
(What would have been really cool is if your Jomsviking was more like a Dragon's Dogma companion - I never played Dragon's Dogman 2 yet, I'm referring to the original game, and then maybe these weakling Jomsvikings would be worth using 'During the Raid' instead of just calling them after you've killed everything yourself!!! And also people would take more pride in theirs and other peoples creations!).
Also add ng+ with nioh like progression. For example: ng+ adds more upgrade ranks.

One tip, if you're worried about your Jomsvikinger for a particular raid, just go in alone and kill everyone and then raid it, it's much easier.

You have to reset it after you come back from every raid before checking or they won't change.
I like it just because it's more to do on a game where I have done everything.
I see a lot of complaints about the armor. My question is this... How many of the armor sets do you actually use?

The benefits on most of the armors just aren't that good.
So I mainly go for the visualization.
And if I read one more comments about a one handed sword I think I will be sick. lol
LOL I get where you're coming from, but I see all of what you describe as a negative. There should be more than just 3 "good" armor sets. That's with gear in general, I don't think stats really matter all that much and that kind of sucks.
You can take this example and relate it to the entire game. Choices rarely matter, the overall design philosophy is "play however you like" and that's not compelling to me. Take Skyrim: in that game you level all of your skills by using them. You put in the effort and you see the reward, weapons matter and playstyles matter. In Valhalla, the path to max power is all that matters. Once you're there, you've got everything. And even then, getting to 400 is a matter of filling out a massive graph that doesn't have any clear direction. Almost like they dumped everything into a massive bucket and randomly placed all of the nodes.
There's a real lack of consequence with choice and I think the game suffers for it. Of course I know folks will disagree there and appreciate the flexibility, but I'm motivated by choices that matter and Valhalla lacks that for me.
@@jayveeeee Oh yes. By no means was I implying that only having 3 good armor sets is a positive thing. And I have no issue with the "play how you like" mentality. I just wish your customization reflexed your choice.
Say what you want about Odyssey and their overbearing loot system. At least if I played as an assassin my hunter and warrior abilities suffered for it. And likewise for all styles. But, to be fair, let's compare it to AC 2, Brotherhood, or Black Flag. Those games are full of visual customization without any real consequence. Wouldn't you agree? I know this is different because those weren't RPG's. But all of Edward's rewards in Black Flag had no bearing on how you played him as a character.
You are not wrong about the lack of consequence. I think that is part of what happens when you try to please everyone, you just wind up leaving everyone wanting.

I take out most of the enemies in the area myself. with a few enemies remaining, then i call in the raid. It's much more fun this way.
