I'm very happy that you're enjoying the show so far; I look forward to seeing your reactions as the show continually elevates its quality. It truly is a masterpiece of programming, particularly in the later seasons (although the ending storyline of Season 1 will always hold a special place in my heart), and I appreciate you sticking through it to share your experiences with everybody.

This is where things start picking up. You've seen the rest of the season, so most of your questions have been answered already. But I remember when I had those same questions.
And yeah, May was harsh here, but she was right: Skye needs to be committed to SHIELD 100% and have her priorities straight. Right now, helping the team is priority #1. Finding out about her family is secondary. To her credit, Skye understood that immediately, even if it was hard to accept. May really isn't being mean; it's tough love (as I'm sure you've figured out by now). She takes her role of Team Mom very seriously. :)
as far as i'm concerned... this is the episode that changed the show.

I agree. Stakes, angst, and mystery only rose after this episode. Every stinger and post-credit scene after this episode only left me wanting to hibernate for a week to watch the next episode immediately.
When i first watched this episode i had almost the same reaction to everything you did... Sky being my favorite character and Mae taking her anger out on her like she did... Mike being blown to smithereens, ward getting shot, but then i thought to myself how tough he was and a bullet wpuldnt stop him, but Coulson being taken... That just took me for a loop. But this show is just full of loops.
It's so interesting, knowing how things turn out, seeing how the characters react and understanding why they do and say what they do and seeing how different I THOUGHT of them at the time. It's really good writing to write in such a way as to make something seem like one thing, but it's actually another. It's like slight-of-hand/misdirection
May was harsh with Skye, but also she has a point. Skye's search for her parents is not the focus of the team. They are on a mission. I am really excited to see more reactions!
Who is May to say what other people can do with their off time and Coulson told Skye that May would help her after revealing personal information to May without asking Skye. May was harsh because she was pissed she was wrong with Ward.
May was harsh because she was pissed that Coulson was getting distracted by this and she's supposed to be keeping an eye on him. Coulson is always, always May's first concern.
That is really not the case. If it was May would tell coulson so. Instead she said she will help him. May was very clearly pissed before Skye came to talk to her.
Coulson doesn't know May's looking after him. I'd say she's irritated with herself over misreading Ward, but I doubt it's the main reason she's so harsh with Skye. She's been against Coulson getting involved with all this Skye stuff from the beginning. And she's still really pissed that Skye betrayed the team. May doesn't forgive easily.
I didn't talk about May looking after Coulson. I was talking about that scene where May snaps at Skye without even knowing what she is about to say. She is pissed about something else and i bet it's Ward. How is she against Coulson helping Skye? She agreed to help for gods sake. In the next episode it comes perfectly clear that she approves Skye. Anything else you say is just your imagination.
Oh for sure it starts off slow cuz the first few episodes are just the tiny pieces to the big puzzle. And what you thought was a complete puzzle, it turns out it's just another tiny piece to another puzzle. I still can't believe the things that have happened in this show and how far they've come. CRAZY! So yeah. The HYPE is REAL. As you saw with Coulson, Mike and Ward, no one is safe on this show. They make you care and love these characters and then BAM! They can snatch them away from you in the blink of an eye lol. I'm also digging the fact that you can remember things that happened in the Marvel movies and apply it to the show. Little things like the talk about the cellist, yeah you're definitely gonna do fine and after what I saw in your reaction here, you're hooked lol. This will be the ride you've been looking for. I'm always interested in seeing if/where reactors think this show starts taking off. Some say this episode on, some say 16/17 on, some say the second season. You seem exactly the type of person that will appreciate the build up when it pays off soon, so I do think you will "get" this show. I'm glad you got through season one, and look forward to your reactions.
This was the turning point for the series. The first 9 episodes were setting this up and now the rest of the Season will build off from it. Trust me, it gets wayyy better. Great reaction as always
Not phenomenal? O... just you wait lol... I never tell anyone to skip the first few episodes as it’s important for character development, but it gets SO much better later on... imo season 4 is better than any of the marvel movies... (the other season are also great of course it’s just that season 4 is the best imo lol...)
Hey there. Getting in late to your reactions but loving reliving this series. By this time, you're finished with the series and know about THE plot twist that began a continuation of WTF moments from there on out, but I do have to say reliving these early episodes is very special and I appreciate the heart and the growth that a lot of people gave up on early. I'm glad you continued the series, but I also hope you look back on these early episodes with fondness and you're not simply glad you got through them.

Considering you seemed like you weren't that into it at the start. You sure as hell were into it by the end of this episode.
Well, this is the first AoS cliffhanger. (I believe it was the mid-season finale.) The pace gets faster and things get real from there on.
The half way end of this season is going to get veeeery interesting
I half forgot about the last twists at the end of this episode. So that was awesome to watch again!
SHIELD might not be the highest-quality show. But I've felt so much love for both show's characters and for the fans from the showrunners and writers, countless times over the years. So if you get to see that and feel that, I am confident that it will be a precious show for you! :)
It especially makes way more sense if you know the later episodes and realize why Ward picked that particular spot to guard Coulson.
why did he?
In my opinion, this is the episode where things start to get good. As you continue to watch the series, though, you will realize that the first half of this season laid a lot of ground work or other things that are going to happen
AOS really knows how to screw with viewers expectations.
It was OK because until the moment you have heard about they were purposely doing a police procedural/monster-of-the-week format until they could tie it in with a movie. That change as well as the fact that they design new "shows" and not just story lines for every season is what makes this series work.
It wasn't simply that though because they were seeding a ton of stuff for storylines later. People couldn't recognize that 'cause they didn't telegraph how important certain things would be, so many thought it was simply procedural storytelling when that was a DISGUISE! xD

Rewatching these reactions because I need more Agents of SHIELD in my life and I just noticed that sound at around 3:58, just out of curiosity was that made by a game in the background? It sounded really familiar but I can't quite think of where I know it from.
Been interesting seeing your take on shield, looking forward to seeing how you react when more plot unfolds. But seeing as you have seen season 1 do you stand by what you said at 18:12? hehe :D Keep it up!

Yeah, most of season 1 is filler because they had to stall to align the good part of their story with the release of Captain America Winter Soldier. After that they're free to go and it gets amazing. You'll see that change. I promise.

Episode 15 is terrible. The show starts being phenomenal from episode 16 onwards.
You could even say that was around the time the series turn, turn, turn into a great show.
personally, seeds/Tracks is when it became a great show to me!

T.r.a.c.k.s is where it gets good to me. Episode 13
TRACKS is the episode in which it first showed its potential for brilliance, but considering that what I consider the worst episodes of the show followed after it, I am inclined to mark Turn, Turn, Turn as the turning point...fittingly.
swanpride episode 15 I get because of the sexist shit, but 14 and 16? Those episodes were awesome dude.
The show doesn’t become “good” until about the 3rd season
Bullshit, season 2 was good.
Khayman77 it was fine, but it wasn’t Buffy good until much later.
The mass majority like season 2 as the best in the series until season 4 came along.
not far to compare it to Buffy... buffy is considered one of the all time greatest shows
Khayman77 I’d say season 2 was a good Sky season, but the overall arch still felt very much like season 1 still.
