G-d, the way she says "Mommy?" at the end still makes me want to cry.

It makes me tear up and do the usual male thing of acting like we're clearing our throats when starting to cry. Her acting was amazing in the scene.

The compassion Buffy showed dying April by just being with her was very sweet. Sometimes he human body just relapses even if a serious illness seems to be cured "in time". The random timing after a mainly comedic episode makes it more unexpected and natural
It never really occured to me that Buffy sits with a dying robot woman only to miss being with Joyce at her end until I read your comment.

My fanwank is that robots work better on a Hellmouth for some reason. Ted was, if anything, more sophisticated than April, and he was supposedly built decades earlier.
@@Xhalph There are robots in Angel that have nothing to do with Sunnydale though. I think it's just technology from one of the demon worlds (or other dimensions) that has crossed over to this one.
Sunnydale is a little like Gilligan's Island in that way.
I love buffy talking to the bot at the end and sitting with her while the light iñ her eyes slowly faded , and how she comforts and has empathy for the bot , felt like it inspired the scene with batman and ace a dying child "supervillian" where he just sits with her on a swing and holds her hand till the end , and names his dog after her

a lot of reactors have such a hard time doing the discussion part for this ep because of how shocking the ending is and it ends on a cliffhanger.
Interesting Fact: Apparently Brittany Spears was originally going to play April, but then that fell threw… could you imagine if that would have happened? That would of been some crazy casting
I feel a bit bad for Britney, if I recall correctly she liked the show and wanted to be on Buffy - but as a character that could be an ally or fight alongside Buffy with her own agency. While the robot was a sympathetic character in the end and the pop culture fun be really neat, she and her staff likely didn't want her to act as a weird sexbot version of herself.
I think it would have been distracting.
seeing the episode number and thought "oh THE twist ending" then hearing the name warren and thinking "wow this episode sets lots up LOL"
Indeed....Warren and his future "minions" are responsible for most of the misery/depression the Scooby-Doo gang has to deal with in the next season and has consequences even up to the end of season 7...

My wife lost her mom to cancer in 2013. They watched Buffy together when she was growing up, it was something they shared together.
We skip the end of this episode, and the next two episodes, when we rewatch Buffy.

♥ When I was 17, my Nana (who brought me up, so closest thing to a mother) died while I was talking to her. I also switch off this episode early and skip the next two. (For some reason I can handle it on reactions, but not watching the whole thing properly.)
The next episode is easily one of the best episodes of television, let alone of Buffy... And ive only ever been able to watch it once all the way through.

The Body is one of, if not the greatest episode of TV ever x Everyone absolutely acted the hell out of it and just all the different emotions/reactions to the death shown is absolutely first class x

That hour of television told in real time... Buffy's mom's death is one of the hardest I've ever watched. Honestly it felt like one of my own family members died. It was so raw.

When this first aired... the Joyce death was one of the most shocking events freaking ever! Then just boom, credits, and wait a week for the next episode. Such a beloved character too.
As someone who works with a bunch of software engineers, I find it absolutely believable that Warren wouldn't know how to spell and wouldn't care enough to look it up.

Markita’s reaction was funny af! When Joyce was lying on the couch. I laughed so hard I cried. And I appreciate Mickey humor about Warren being one of the greatest inventors.
I see why they requested this and the next episode together, but honestly I think some time to digest, worry and prepare yourself makes more sense. That’s why that end scene was in this episode, in the first place.

In hindsight, all the clues were there that Joyce would die: 1. We saw Joyce happy and 2. This is a Joss Whedon show.
Look at these innocent kids, chatting it up and having a good time before the episode starts.
Next episode, is not only one of THOSE Buffy episodes- but one of the greatest pieces of tv.
Warren could have used this tech to become the richest man in earth and been knee deep in human dime pieces until he died!

One of the most important eps of the entire series: not just for *that* ending but also introduces arguably its most despicable and hated character as well. Which, given the kind of horrors the Master. Angelus, Glory and the Mayor all planned, is saying something.
They don't even realize something they pointed out, is so small, most people miss it entirely. Then on top of that it comes back to into play later.
I’m sorry, but whoever voted for y’all to watch these back to back were dead wrong. I’ve seen just about every Buffy reactor on TH-cam and NONE of them have watched The Body directly after IWMTLY, so Idk where this whole “it’s a 2 parter” nonsense is coming from. It wasn’t shown back to back when it first aired either. And thanks to whoever voted for this we won’t get to see Chris or Pat’s reaction which is the greatest tragedy of all time. All the Normies should be there for that episode 😢

Despite how often we see death on TV and film, sadly, this is likely how more people com across a deceased loved one. And the follow up is tragically all too real as well.😔
The actress who plays April played Sasha in season 1 of Smallville
Shonda Farr. She replaced Brittney Spears, who couldn't play April due to her busy schedule.
Warren is IMO the best Buffy villian specifically because he does so much harm without being cartoonishly evil.
At times it seemed like he was a victim or about to become a perephial scoobie, but... Every time it matters, he's one selfish decision short.

Their hate for Spike is hurting my soul. But I get it. Hopefully, they get to see his character progression throughout the series and not be one-sided with his actions and choices. It's more complex and complicated in my opinion. ☹️

With this episode, it's better to watch them back to back. Back in the day tho, I had to wait till next week, for the next episode, but it should still be good.
Such a joyous start with the girls teasing Joyce about her dress, and Joyce like a nervous teenager going on a first date, then Joyce turning the tables on Buffy saying she left her bra in his car, a great little juxtaposition as the mother acting like the daughter. An important episode in that we are introduced to Warren one of the most despicable characters in The Buffyverse, we also see Spike's obsession reaching a critical point, where he is asking Warren to make the Buffybot. At the end we see Buffy seeing Joyce on the sofa, what we think is maybe a very ordinary situation, but leading into the next episode, one of the greatest episodes in the whole series, and best pieces of tv drama ever shown. S3 was my favourite up until S5. The latter part of S5 is off the charts.
Warren Mears is on the same list as Dolores Umbridge, but yes, he made an L.M.D. or stole the design from SHIELD.
The robot girl plotline reminded me to suggest that you guys should react to the movie Ex Machina.
Buffy dating Ben/Glory is something I think coulda been hilarious and fun. Just wasn't in the cards.
