    Hell again, Certainly glad to see you back. Afraid you were bit by the 19 bug.. Beautiful piece pf work. I am still shocked by the size of the parts. Everyone on channel is looking forward to your next installment. Watching that engine grow is fascinating. All the best, stay safe, stay well and that is a beautiful garden view you have as well.

      Hi Robert - thanks for that. No sign of the 19 bug in the workshop! Regarding the garden view - apparently the one on the left is a pear tree, the one on the right is a magnolia. My wife has been introducing me to the green stuff that grows out of the ground! Who'd have thought!!!

    That is fantastic currently doing my 5 inch Britannia only just got it apart boiler has gone off for testing while I'm re working the chassis getting rid off all surfaces rust as it's been a static model for 6 years need a new ash pan too and grate enjoying every mint of it as you say though I forgot how heavy the dam thing was and it's a bit smaller of a locomotive brilliant Craig mate

    • @no23mk2
      @no23mk2  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Mark. It wont be long before your Brit is in steam! On my engine spinner the centre of rotation is offset from the chassis with makes the spin heavy. In theory, once the boiler is attached the axis of rotation should be nearer the centre of gravity of the loco making the rotation easier - in theory.....

When I come to put all back together I've a few higher detailed bits to go on new injectors at the ones my grandfather maid was a bit oversized and looked out of scale then come the task of painting her oh joy going for Brunswick green or maybe the oliver Cromwell lighter green depends how brave I feel. Then after all that is the black five witch is in bits and a unfinished model may need help with that one as I've not the skill of a builder like you and my grandfather

    Hi Craig, another leap forward. I remember making the truck for my own 9F back in the 1980’s and it’s a pretty intricate but faithful model of the real thing!
    Forgive me if you already understand this, but it is also the purpose of the side control springs to help guide the front of the engine around curves, lateral force will be applied to the frames, once the truck moves “off centre”. It is therefore quite important to balance the stiffness of those springs with the axlebox springs, to avoid derailment of the truck on tight curves.

    • @no23mk2
      @no23mk2  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Don, that's good to know and makes perfect sense now that you've explained it.
      Thanks again, Craig

    • @DON9F1
      @DON9F1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi again, I had to play around a bit with all the springing on mine, to get a reasonable weight distribution and to get the engine to sit level on the track.....it tends to be a bit heavy at the back end.
      Surprisingly for its wheelbase, when new I found it quite happy to negotiate curves as tight as 30 foot radius. The limiting factor was the available side movement of the pony truck, but negotiating a 27 foot radius turnout at the Derby track many years ago, caused problems....however that’s pretty tight!
      Cheers Don

    • @no23mk2
      @no23mk2  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DON9F1 Yes - I noticed that the weight distribution altered with the installation of the truck - taking some of the weight off the front drivers. I will review the springing one I have the boiler etc fitted. Thanks again Craig.

    Thought I'd be forever be a year behind your posts but I've caught up!
    But here (without the drawing in front of me), it's hard to visualize some of the kinetic excursions and some of the spring functions in the pony truck assembly. Regardless:
    10:10 - Your hand file finishing is top-notch!
    22:49 - Simple it might be, but clever it is.
    26:48 - Ah, the sound of brass being pealed from its parent!
    Added by edit: I've fitted a DRO similar to yours to my mill, X&Y only. The X-axis power feed is looking very handy, but it looks like the T-slot on the front of the table (being occupied by the DRO stuff) will not allow fitting of the auto-stop on the power feed. Is that correct?

    • @no23mk2
      @no23mk2  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. It's easily the most complicated part of the build so far. Even with the drawing in front of me it wasn't at all apparent how it worked. Not until it started to be assembled did I fully understand it!

    • @currentbatches6205
      @currentbatches6205 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@no23mk2 Thanks; if it took you a while, with the parts in front of you, I'm relieved about not understanding the kinetics from the vid. I'll probably watch this post several more times in the hopes of understanding the excursions and spring functions; nobody put those there for nothing. If you have more vids explaining the issue, I'd love to save any over-heating of the skull.
      Also (and again), I've got an X-axis power feed arriving for installation (a Morphon drive), and I'm still curious whether and how the auto-stop clips are fitted, given my DRO uses up the T-slot on the front of the table as does yours.
      And also how closely do you trust the stops once they are fitted?
