Looking fantastic! Nice bit of bell ringing while turning that dome.

Cheers. Wait for the boiler ring boring video - it has a real catchy beat to it!

Very Nice Work Craig as usual , the pattern used for that casting was clearly the wrong radius, you did well to get it out of that casting, great content and Bo didley to boot, nice one

Thank you Roy. If I look at the door side on with the side elevation of the drawing behind the radius looks fine.
      Cheers Craig

Nicely done! Please excuse me for chuckling at the ringing. For some reason I found that humorous.

Cheers Craig. I found the ringing quite annoying at first - but the ringing proves it's a good casting. A dull sound would probably mean a cracked casting...

Your lathe is nice. My 75 year old Atlas has no niceties like an adjustable height toolpost. I thought about buying a Clark lathe but I don't like the handle on the leadscrew to traverse the saddle. Guess I'm sticking with my old lathe, besides I have had it for 30 years so it's an old friend which gets used nearly every day.

Stick with your Atlas!!! Just buy a dixon style toolpost and tool holders and you'll be golden!

Been a fascinating series to watch but on this section I saw some machining filings which didn't belong to this piece
Only having a joke the whole build has been an inspiration for his clean everything is
Look forward to seeing the loco run

    Wow, very cool!
Where did you get the drawings and castings? I've searched Google but couldn't find anyone with 5" gauge 9f drawings and castings?

Hi Craig: Nice to have you back with more progress. From the sound of it, perhaps you should add bell making to your skill set. Interesting process of cutting the curves. Trouble with a bit of chatter but it certainly turned out right. Thickness to spec or not it appears to be good. What is the next project? This is better than news of 19. By the way, whatever happened to the vertical boiler project? Take care, be safe.

Thanks Robert. Next jobs - more smokebox parts. As for the vertical boiler - nothing has happened to it. It's just waiting for me to get organised enough to solder it.
      Cheers Craig

How did you machine that radius on a lathe?

    • @no23mk2
      @no23mk2  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hand-eye coordination etch-a-sketch style. Finished off with file and emery cloth.

Cheers Allen. Not the best dimensional casting to achieve the 10" radius but I think looks the part.
