@@ebeaudry929tell that to jordan and mines super ts lol. Idk what else to say 😅 in 15 years people will be having to rebuild all these new ones. So i dont see an issue in having to rebuild most of the pre 2008s they have been ridden for a long time. And the fact that they are still rebuildable and not shot stands the test of time.
I have no "actual" knowledge of how fork compression circuits work, but my armchair assumption is that the HSC journals/holes could be enlarged to allow more flow at max HSC. In my mind you are feeling the system suddenly overwhelmed on those high speed square-hits and literally hydro-locking the suspension for a split second. Absolutely amazing project and entertaining video though as always. Thanks Jordan!
100% recommend cushcore in addition to gravity casings. I was able to blast through downieville lower at only 20psi with not damage to the rims despite the roots and rocks.
I just found this channel and the fact your trying to build the ultimate DH/free ride bike got me to sub because I've been wanting to see someone do this for a long time.
Man I can really see when you get to faster sections how quickly the momentum increases. I bet once you get it dialed in you’ll be incredibly fast all around
Awesome run, JB. Appreciate the commitment to get the 'Monster dialed in just right. In for the compilation build vid, once you have everything complete. Loving jow the Boost Monster makes the jumps/drops so smooth. Handles like a champ, congrats on the continued progression with it.
Maybe a tyre insert for the rear tyre will compensate for the heavy weight of the bicycle, and have an even more plush ride.Your machine looks so comfy!
That bike eats those trails like it should, it is from the era that made whistler the bike park known today. Also it crossed my mind about maybe there is to much "sidesways" pressure and the shock is actually flexing a bit, tighten the spring more and use the adjustments . good luck Awesome video! cant wait for the sun peaks one!
I remember back in the day i had a Junior-T and to really make it feel plush on those small bump we used lighter weight oil, but cant remember if it was 5W or 10W from a MX forks oil it worked great and made a huge difference in the fork and how it felt
So sick bikes mental I’m in whistler for first time as I’m from England I go home Wednesday been awesome here last day of riding is Monday for me be sweet to bump into you on trails 🇨🇦😁
You know he’s looking epic and awesome Jordan, also using my imagination I’d save OH WOW HE RIDES GREAT. For the future I might come up to Whistler to get experience and spend all day.
Looks like your fork is spiking. To be honest mate I think you’d be more controlled on a newer fork with modern damping. But as long as you’re having fun that’s the main thing 👌🏻
Yeah he would be better on a fox 40 or boxxer, but that's not really the point. He's trying to get this old unique fork to perform similar to a modern fork if not better by just having more travel, and its somehow actually working better than them in some places lmao
This has been very interesting. You would think with longer forks you would have more difficulty with handling. But you made it look good. Thanks for sharing this with us.
I’ve had great success with my Rimpact inserts. I run them on my Giant Reign on 2.6” wide Schwalbe tires, over Stan’s Mk3 (35mm inner width) rims. Great damping properties, too, and easier to install over Cushcore
You could try a Procore in the rear. I'm running it in a 26" rim that's not tubeless ready with a wire bead magic mary and the inner tube helps seal it up so good I lose zero pressure over weeks of storage. I've done a few runs in rocky places with 8 psi without getting a flat. It's a double edged sword because it sucks when you do get a flat but it reduces the chance greatly.
I love my marz forks, still using two from 2011. I built a bike like this in 2010 and its still an amazing ride and I feel like I can ride anything. 2009 rogue, fox 40, dhx coil. 2.5" tires at 27psi. it is so smooth and absorbs anything it hits. no bottoming. the dual compression circuits in both front and rear makes the suspension killer
@@JordanBoostmaster good choice bro, they are awesome. I had about 5 punctures in the last 2 years with them, mostly from hitting roks at Mach 7 speed 🤣 🤟
The supermonster stanshions have an extra hole drilled in them compared to normal monsters. They were developed mostly for big drops not techy downhill trails. I understand Egor and a few others may disagree with that statement and tell you different but its true. The only other 300mm fork produced was the risse bigfoot and that was also developed for the same thing. You will always have issues trying to run a super monster if you’re going to use them for something else 😂
fair enough! thats good to know, so your saying that with that extra hole drilled in, it will cause less damping then? An extra hole in both stanchions?
@@JordanBoostmaster probably something to do with the different cartridges also, with the sumos they had different internals and stanchions more specific to extreme freeriding. I’ve not got a set myself but i’ve done a whole lot of research into converting normal monsters and thats what i’ve found out so far. Egor has been a good help in explaining a lot of this to me also
@@JordanBoostmaster you would have better luck having new cartridge tubes made (or possibly use normal Monster tubes?) and if you needed to add a smaller hole later
Something i would like to add, love the norco frame by the way, had one of those years ago but not as cool as yours. However propain produced a frame in 2011 called the rage. 10inch travel factory. I still have mine, such a cool old bike.
Your best bet for the rear suspension is to contact Craig at Avalanche... He might be a bit quirky, but as long as you are honest about your skill level with him, he will build a shock, or modify a shock, that's perfectly matched to your imes leverage curve, riding style, and rider weight. I've got a bomber cr coming from him this week, long shocking my knolly delirium. I'd be willing to bet that having an Avy modded shock in the rear would solve all your rear suspension issues
@@JordanBoostmaster I also had a Boxxer ride (basically a 2005 boxxer team with u turn travel adjustment) rebuilt by Risse Suspension. I'd check them out to see if they can offer any insight on the super monster... Or maybe even another option for the rear shock.
It might be the rebound? The shock might be too compressed after those smaller, yet harsh, consistent hits, and too slow to return to droop so you're bottoming out.
I've never bottomed it out yet though, the compression is wide open too, the fork doesn't give me the chance to pack up because the rebound is too fast. But one thing I am trying now is lighter weight oil!
i would run my non tubeless tires without tubes and just put stans in there. if you have a good dh casing tire (i used maxxis dhf front and rear) , and a good tape around the rim it will easily hold the 20-40ish psi most people ride at. might be worth a try to avoid hiking out again.
Honestly with a rear tube I'd say 30psi is bar minimum... Prolly run at least 35psi with your setup and how you ride. That said, tubeless with inserts would be my preference 🙃
hey mate I'm no expert but seeing as the fork is a coil the spiking has to be damper related. oil not passing through valves fast enough. think experimenting with lighter weight oil would be at very least an interesting experiment
I wonder if the harshness on the tech comes from the long stanchions twisting and then binding. Not sure if that is faxable because it just has to do with how stiff the stanchions are and how long they are (leverage and all that) but that may be why they seem to get harsh on the chunky stuff.
Edit: Hey Jordan i think it would be cool if you found someone that makes custom frames that could make one for this fork and shock (so that it has "normal" geometry), they can be really expensive but if you give them a shout out or something i thing its doable
@@KingPlayz_MC maybe the can lower the price or something like that or if they also make yourube videos as full time job and do the collaboration it could be for free. I have no idea how this could work, i just think its interesting and should be a way to do it somewhat cheap
so im not sure but the sound does not sound like the coil rubbing. i think it sound like a bolt problem that i had on my A line. the black a line had a rear shock mount bolt would bend easy on them. might want to check it. if you can i know that a couple brands sold ti bolts for the shock mount. ext is pretty soild. unless the shock coil is somehow rubbing the frame. if neither of those things are wrong check the shock play. the coil shocks from ext if they are in need of a service can get a good amount of side to side play in the internal shock bushings
If you can see where the coil is rubbing the shock, a simple solution might be to simply rotate the coil so the rub spot sits in the gap between coils if it’s on a corner. Long springs may also compress in an arc and need to be rotated to compensate if the rub is in the middle of the shock body.
Hi Jordan really nice video, and i love the bike, i think, and a lot more in the audience could agree with me is you should paint the bike frame a nice modern color.
Hey Jordan. I think the fork and front tire are both setup way too soft. I run 35 to 40 psi front...also when a fork is too soft, it dives through the travel too easily which changes the geometry radically. That steepens the headtube angle and pitches your weight forward leading to moments like the one one whistler downhill. Idk but just something to think about
Eventually we're gonna have a bike with enought travel to roll over the entire whistler mountain range without noticing
10000000 inch wheels 🤣
no travel seems to get smaller as we get newer suspension
