I have the black/grey one of this and it’s all I wear these days. Super versatile, understated, got the specs to boot. Makes a good case for a one watch collection.

I have this exact same model. It was sold on a German website as a Mako Kamasu Vintage style. It's an absolute gem. Saphire glas too for this price! You don't get that with Seiko. The blue in the dial just catches the light so beautifully. Even if I'm wearing my Citizen Promaster Skyhawk I still have this on my right wrist coz I don't want to be without it. :)

Good name choice Uncle Stu as there’s a rather good American TH-camr and Royal Enfield enthusiast called Old Man Ronin. Another great value Orient but,, despite the nicely curved lugs, sadly still too big for my itsy bitsy wrist.

I miss the old speedometers that looked like watch lume shots themselves. After the wars it was agreed that green was the least stressful colour at night but then collectively we all moved on to different speedo/tacho colours - red, orange and what not. Sigh!

I have an Orient Mako II and a Kanno. The Ronin looks like a great continuation of the basic Mako/Ray/Kamasu design. I really like the polished chamfer on the case, and that teal dial!
In my opinion, there is no better value in an automatic dive watch. The spec Orient gives you for the money is unbeatable. Any time I have a friend express interest in getting their first automatic watch, Orient is nearly always what I recommend. You can keep the Seiko SKX - I’ll take a Kanno or a Citizen Fugu any day.

@@ShaunSeahSG lets have some imagination though. Orient don't name their watches it is usually the watch community that comes up with the names, or, occasionally Orient USA as the model numbering system is so confusing. Simply calling it a kamasu because they share some similarities is an unimaginative cop out!

Thanks for the review Stu. I’ve been into automatic watches for some time. I like the fact that Orient make their own movements and some of their designs are certainly future classics - the Bambino is certainly one of them. This particular model looks nicely finished with one glaring drawback, that bracelet. For the price I’d expect solid end links and a milled clasp. This one appears to be straight out of the Seiko parts bin - of course Orient are part of the Seiko group. At around this price point offerings from San Martin and Chronos are probably much better quality, I myself have a Phoebus Wavemaster which is an excellent dive watch.

    • @tiagodvt
      @tiagodvt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

You should not expect solid endlinks and a milled clasp at that price range, really. If we are talking reputable brands. With the chinese watches it is different. If you get a Seiko 5 or an automatic Citizen Promaster, as an example, you'd get hollow links throughout the bracelet. The Orient has them solid! But I agree it's still a drawback and pretty much the only complaint one can have with this watch (along with the small and flimsy crown), but one can always get an aftermarket bracelet, there are plenty made or the Kamasu.

600 700 pounds seems pricy for an Orient, the JDM kamasus. Where over £400 when they first came out but now you can buy a Kamasu for around 160 and a JDM Kamasu for around 200. For me I love the days in Japanese, especially with the red Dail.
The only problem with Orient is its lack of after service parts, you can only buy a strap or bezel from Orient. They offer repair at Orient but it costs more than a new watch.
Example the Beszel spring for my Kamasu broke, I contacted Orient USA (no Orient UK) and asked them if I could order a spare, they said no and I could only take it in for repair.
I looked online but no official parts.
Luckily they use the same spring as the SKX 120 click.
Also I wish they would come out with a GMT diver or a 28,800bph for the Orient star.
It's sad if you break a part you have to find a donor watch or replace it a lot of the time.

@@stuartfillingham yes but during the presentation they mentioned that it was along the lines of a Kamasu since they're dimensionally identical. So if anything this is a variation of a Kamasu.

  • @billj5645

It looks too much like the standard Mako/Ray/Kamasu, I wish they would fix that ugly bezel design. It's also a little bit small. I much prefer the Kano. But yes if those things don't bother you then its a great watch and a good value.
