After Lockdown - The Coast to Coast (part 3) Haweswater Reservoir to Shap
Summer what Summer: Mother Nature tests the Amigos and Snowy over the highest point of the trail, Kidsty Pike.
Hello everybody, I'm back again after lockdown to backpack the legendary Wainwright's Coast to Coast going from the Irish Sea in the west to the North Sea in the east. Join me on a near empty trail as I walk across England coast to coast in these unprecedented times.
As always, thank you for watching and see you out there and on TH-cam!

Hello everybody, If you like what I'm sharing can you please consider subscribing to my channel - it's free - it would be much appreciated, thank you! :-)
Awesome trip despite the weather! ❤️❤️❤️
amazing place my friend, enjoy your meal full view and thumbs up 👍
Thank you Shadow my friend I'm glad you're enjoying my adventures from a far it's really much appreciated!👍🍺🙂
You definitely walked through the storm mate. Glad you and the GoPro survived. Great views, sun and a welcome chippie at the end. Superb! 👌👍🍻
Yeah mate!! There's virtually nothing I wouldn't do to get to a chippie!!😉😁👍🍺
@@snowymatrix 🤣👍
wow stunning love this kind of landscape so much such a beauty for our souls !
Beautiful words thank you 💚🙂
I admire you and the amigos stamina in hiking in that horrible weather . At least you did not have to set up camp in the rain at the farm!
Thanks Max, it was only a temporary reprieve Nature would be back to her old tricks again later!👍🍺😁
Typical Lakeland weather for summer! Your sentiments are correct - always go prepared! 👍
Gotta love The Lakes and their weather! Thanks mate for watching and leaving comments atb 👍🍺🙂
For the middle of summer, what difficult conditions you experienced! At least however the sun returned for a nice meal. Very cool my friend 😊
Thanks Dee, the British weather is a law unto its self!!😁😊
Wow it was bad weather up there! You’re a dedicated man! Thanks for sharing this my friend!
Mother Nature made it really interesting up there for sure Dom, thanks for stopping by my friend!👍🍺🙂
You were challenged on this one Snowy. But as ever you never cursed just simply advised adding something philosophical. A right proper thru hiker. But hey the sun did show. Lovely. Mark
Thanks Mark, I curse in the city and adapt to nature's tests in the outdoors! :-)
@@snowymatrix I do the same. The City is wilder it seems.
good ole lake district weather : ) & Snowy's fav fish & chips. looks like a proper outing m8 nice one
Gotta love the fish and chips Daz!👍🍺😁
thats how i rememder the lakes indeed
It's most people's memory of the Lakes but I did have one glorious summer in the late 90s there! I walked and camped all the big hills using my car too. Sadly before TH-cam and action video cameras😄
You definitely wouldn't think this was mid summer, more mid winter lol, good old British weather, the wind was harsh ATB 👍
Nice one Gaz, yeah the weather was atrocious!!😄ATB👍🍺
Hi Snowy, another great installment and a reminder of how brutal that crossing was over Kidsty Pike, look forward to seeing the rest of the route that I missed !😊
Hi Paul, it certainly was a battle of survival to get down off there and find somewhere to pitch our tents to get out of that wind and rain! On another note I can still smell that delicious barbeque we past on the way to Shap!👍🍺😁
Well done as always, keep on walking, it's inspirational 😁
Thanks Debbie!👍🍺
Great footage again Snowy reminded me of the conditions we faced. A great relief to be in some easier walking country for rage next phase. Well done mate lived this brought back all the memories atb Dave 😁👍
Nice one Dave, that's the beauty of Goproing the journey and TH-cam. We will be able to remember the experience when the memories start to fade over time 👍🍺😁
Great stuff Snowy. I bet that fish and chips never touched the sides mate. Cheers
Haha, yeah mate!👍🍺😂
What a wet & windy episode. 🙈 Beautifully atrocious or atrociously beautiful?? You are brave, you really do inspire me even though it hurts my ego a bit. Haha. I cancelled two planned trips to the lakes this summer due to the storms. I like to use taking my inexperienced friend on her first hike and camp as an excuse but I think that was me chickening out. 😅 To be continued....
Both!! 😁 Your wild swimming inspires me too but the only water I've ever swam in is around Cyprus so a big difference in temperature! lol 🍺😆
Great video! We camped at the same place in Shap and got the fish & chips! It was well needed! 😃
Great stuff, that chippie was very good even though there was a Basil Fawlty type in a visor and a microphone controlling the buying of the food due to C19 and all that stuff!👍🍺😁
@@snowymatrix 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@GETtwoIT he told off one of the Amigos for stepping out of the line before he called his number on his microphone!🤣😁😂
@@snowymatrix Gotta love the locals 😄
Horrid weather continued a shame when you cannot see the beauty of it all.Plus it really zaps energy. The amount of unprepared people so far this summer has been ridiculous and its sad mountain rescue teams are almost over run at present. I hope many other see this video to warm that this walk is very unforgiving in bad days.. Shap chippy voted best in Cumbria for a few years now so yep i hope you enjoyed em😋atb Mark.
Thanks Mark, luck of the draw with the weather! I did see when I got home the pleas of Mountain Rescue to people to be prepared but it'll probably fall on deaf ears. It also doesn't help with many "big" TH-camrs incourging people to take less and less into the British Hills. We don't live in a place where the weather is predictable it can and will be anything at any time so we must go prepared for the worst and hope for the best.👍
Glad you have some amigos to go with you .. wow what a weather.. brave lads.. i wouldnt step out of my warm bed in a weather like that.. yeah blue skies needed badly.. glad you guys survived.. what happens if you have taken that other lane? Samsung galaxy to the rescue..yay!!! your tent has gone down with the wind lol.. next time you know what you missed this time..lol.. finally get to see some sun.. yay!!! aww cute horse.. beautiful landscape near the abbey ..great ending a bad weather.
Hello! If we had gone down the wrong lane we would have ended up in another valley way off the route! We would have to walk back again and take the right path! 😁 Good old Samsung Galaxies they've been waterproof for a long time!🙂
@@snowymatrix oh i see.. thank you for letting me know. it would have been another adventure.. but ot in that weather ... i m glad you had a back up Galaxy with you ..
I've been loyal to Samsung since the beginning of their mobile phones and before that I had a Nokia!😁
@@snowymatrix me too.. faithful samsung fan.. my first phone was Sony Ericsson from that to Samsung..
Snowy you do know that is a normal day in Cumbria lol , I am glad the rain cleared but you are right about that winter could appear over the next fell in the lakes during summer. The area round Shap abbey was were they used to do Total Warrior a 10k assault course done it twice and was great fun .
Fish supper was gladly received after a day like that ..
Haha yeah it's also the normal weather for Yorkshire as I found that out too!😂
Such a shame with the weather.. but sunshine on Shap was your reward.. and good fish and chips.. R&D :):)
Those really were excellent fish and chips at Shap and the sun topped it all off!!👍🍺😁
You certainly had some rain there Snowy! Haweswater is beautiful, I must try to get over there again some time. I’ve heard good things about the chippy, that meal looked delicious.👍👍👍
I sure did Anthony! The Lakes are so green but that comes at a price!! atb :-)
After that weather you deserve some fish & chips! I have a tyvek bivvy more like a quilt shape foot box then open always use it as most of my tents are single skin
Good idea Lezley, my SnugPack bivvi only weighs about 300 grams and like I said I really regreted not taking it. I've got my eye on a tyvek bivvy which is full length and a 150 grams also but I don't think they are breathable so the bag might get wet from my perspiration anyway🤷
snowymatrix thru-walker this is like a blanket with a footbox so bag isn’t enclosed, I’ve got it with me I’m going to do a small trail soon I’ll show it in a video

@@LezleysAdventures that'll be great thanks👍🍺

Madventure
Haha I think in today's words the sun was trolling me! 😂
Them fish and chips still look the business 😋 would you change anything if you did it again 🤔
Not really Daz, have my walking kit dialled in now. Lightweight boots, array of socks, spend money to keep it lightweight but always paying full respect to the unique British trail conditions so kit to handle cold wet windy conditions always👍🍺😎
I was going to take my gopro hero8 with media mod with me on my WHW and GGW but because the weather forecast wasn't good I left the media mod at home and just stuck with the gopro itself.
Good thinking Paul, I normally wouldn't have got it out but wanted to document how bad the weather was out there. 👍🍺
Nice one snowy, can’t believe that weather, hope it improves, how’s the legs feeling, they getting stronger ? That fish n chips with Dr Pepper looked delicious, have you got a sleeping pad ?
The legs are holding up well by this stage all the little twinges have disappeared and they are resigned to doing the walk whether they like it or not! My sleeping pad of choice for 3 seasons is the Exped SynMat HL medium. You can get a better look at it if you want on my next episode because I do a show and tell on my first aid kit on it. ATB👍🍺
Hi Snowy! Can you remind me what tent that is. Looking to replace my two man with a one man/pole and looking at yours, it fits the bill. Is there a cheaper version of it? Cheers! 👍🏽
Hi👋 It's a Six Moons Design Lunar Solo. You can buy a Chinese Lanshan 1 which is a similar copy to this quite cheaply. Check TH-cam lots of videos on both these tents ATB👍🍺
@@snowymatrix Much appreciated! I noted it in an earlier vid of yours, but totally forgot the names...! I knew there was an off-brand one, but that's all I could remember!
Here I was trying to remember, and you post a vid just at the right time. 👍🏽
Long overdue that I replaced my tent, I've had it close to 15 years... 😁
Keep up the GREAT content! 💝
@@allieandmaria thanks for the kind words much appreciated!🙂
@@snowymatrix The Lanshan 1 arrived this afternoon - VERY impressed! Thankqueueueue! 👍🏽
Nice one, enjoy your new tent!!👍🍺😎
