After Lockdown - The Coast to Coast (part 4) Shap to Bents Farm
Snowy walks on alone as one of the amigos has to retire because of a serious injury and the other Amigo pushes on ahead at a faster pace than Snowy. In other matters: cows and loads of them make their presence known on the trail! There is also a talk about an Anker solar panel and a look at Snowy's first aid kit.
Hello everybody, I'm back again after lockdown to backpack the legendary Wainwright's Coast to Coast going from the Irish Sea in the west to the North Sea in the east. Join me on a near empty trail as I walk across England coast to coast in these unprecedented times.

Thanks Dee, my bovine friends were behaving themselves so far but in another episode one of them goes for me!! I put it down to the rain it makes them irritable! I'm trying to get these out as quickly as possible while I have a free week or two!😊
Really good, nice clear camera shots and interesting info snippets too. I camped at bents farm on the Coast to Coast in 87 ish and there was a storm in the evening and me and my brother were invited into the kitchen for fresh scones with jam and tea.

Nice one Dave, I could tell they were class people at the farm. I told the lady of the house not to bother herself bringing me hot water as she was going out with the rest of her family to visit friends but she still brought me the water and a bucket to wash in - top class!!👍🍺
That was one Big Scary Bull in That Field, its quit an Adventure so far Snowy, Enjoying each Episode.

It's all nano tech today Snowy - so solar picks up on dim light even. Nice to be on the moors. It's like aaaahhh the space. Good camp site with the farmers. We love B.G. All the best. Mark
Yeah Mark only the rain stops it and that's because it fries the usb cables because it's still generating power. That's why I always take extra cables. Gotta love B.G. 👍🍺😁

Great watch again Snowy. Must admit I'm a big fearty when it comes to cows, especially in spring. I can honestly say they charge you with the dog. Let go of the dog led and run for it. Cheers
Thanks mate, I had a good chat with the farmer and he said much the same thing. They don't like dogs and get very nasty if you have one. Your advice of letting go of the dog is very wise because they are a lot quicker on their feet than a human and can outrun the cow!!👍🍺😁

Yeah it was a real shame mate but it was a serious injury that needed hospital treatment. It's just a temporary improvement in the weather! 😂😁👍🍺

Great to see notification. Beer in hand and cast to TV. You were right to give bull a wide berth! I didn't know cattle were so anti-dog, good to know! 🤣 I haven't seen solar panels on backpack before but great idea and I'll take your word for it they r good. Looking forward to next installment 👌👍🍻
Nice one mate!👍🍺 Yeah they don't like dogs at all see Jagerscots comments! I even had a young female cow try to charge me in a later episode but I saw her coming and stood my ground and she backed down! There was something in the air this year with the young cows they were all very bold! 👍🍺😁

Open country now!! The black and white cows were quite inquisitive. You never seem to sound tired when you stop for the night..
I disguise it well Max! Seriously I find it's to do with what I said at the start of the walk. I don't set limits, I walk to my own pace and get into the rhythm listening to what my body is saying. Some days I walk more some days less. I'm not trying to prove how far I can walk in a day or am ashamed how little I've walk. In theory you can walk forever in this state of mind barring injury. Oh, all that went out the window on the first day because I was knackered without any sleep!😁👍🍺

The moors looked beautiful Snowy. Cattle can be a nuisance at times, I think you were wise to give them a wide berth. Some good advice there about navigation, could get really lost up there when the clag comes down. 👍👍👍
Nice one Anthony, those cows were a bit rowdy this year! I'm a big fan of An American Werewolf in London so understand why I must take care on the Moors and not get lost!!😉😁👍🍺

Yeah it's really irritating when toes rub together on a walk. Mine is the little toe on my right foot for some reason but these cheap separatters do the job nicely!👍🍺

That was a strangely dry day! Lol. I love my solar charger, too. Not the anker, my one is cheaper but also works great. I take mine on long distance trails and multiday hike/wild camp. I agree, it’s an absolute game changer! Hope you had a good christmas. Mari

Too many on TH-cam still blabbering on about it being a gimmick or expecting it to charge their devices as if they plugged them into the mains socket!🎅
Brilliant Snowy, amny chance of more details on the foot cream used, and did I hear right that you've swapped out to salomon boots. Keep walking the footage is first class 🤗
Hi Debbie, the cream is Gehwol Footcream, there is a few different versions, I use the standard grey tube for before the walk and the blue or green tube for after. Search Gehwol foot cream on eBay and you'll see the different kinds with a description of its uses. I talk about my Salomons and waterproof socks in the next episode coming out tonight about 5PM thanks for watching! :-)
I've seen videos of people getting chased by cows and had to jump over the fence, I hate walking past them, you just never know 🐄🐄🐄👍 ATB
I've had cows try to go for me in the past but I never run like those guys in those videos. In my experience some young, what they call teenage cows will try to intimated you but you got to show them who's top of the food chain and they will back down. Also, like all animals they can smell and sense your fear so there's that as well Gaz. I have no fear of cows but will give a bull a very wide berth! 👍🍺😁

It works great for me! I forgot to add I also carry some light weight nail clippers very important for walks over a week for anyone with fast growing toe nails! ATB👍🍺😁

I never really found that grave of Robin :P - Loved the trees up there at ravens......... and not to much moorland in the dales (on the c2c) but loads of fields and small styles and dry walls..

Great stuff, Snowy. Really enjoying your vids. Braver than me with those cows. I was nearly trampled by a herd just outside Pulborough on the South Downs not long ago so I always give them a wide berth now! 😁

Such a great relief after the weather we had on the lakes. I had some problems with cows in a field just before Kirkby Stephens when I was thinking of camping up for the night. Great footage and will be my reference point for the journey I took. Kept to my plan and got to Robin hoods bay on Saturday missed your company though. Met a few other on the trail at the honesty shack but not many. Look forward to the other videos atb Dave 😁👍

Can't remember where exactly but I recorded the aftermath so will be in a future episode. I also missed the company of both the Amigos too especially through the flat lands which dragged on a bit. Like Mr Wainwright I too didn't like that part of the journey but we gotta go through it to get to the North Yorkshire Moors and the final stages! atb👍🍺
I think you did the right thing going around that cow field. Two people were killed in september this year alone by cows whilst out walking. One hiker doing the pennine way and one person walking his dog in yorkshire. Makes you think and respect them more ( ive always been abit scared of cows anyway)
That's sad to hear. I've never been scared of them but I have had a few dodgy encounters with then in the past. In fact on this walk a day or two later one tried to bully me but I stood my ground and she backed down. I mentioned it in another video of the walk after it happened. I did get a sense something was up so put my camera away otherwise I would have filmed that too. At the end of the day if we walk in Britain's countryside we have to deal with cows and these accidents will sadly happen.

Yeah love The Moors just so open and exposed to the elements. Once you start the moor you gotta finish it there's no place to hide. I remember my first crossing of Rannoch Moor in Scotland I was nervous and excited at the same time. Loved it!👍🍺😁

I think Dave it's against the law to keep a dangerous animal in a field with a public footpath. It's just cows don't like dogs and bulls have a bad reputation but they are really misunderstood pussy cats!!😉😁👍🍺
Gald you managed to get out there, great video, thanks for shearing your amazing walk. You say you like the phone GPS App, have you tried the one called Hiiker, be interesting to have you vew as an experienced long distance hiker.
Quite honestly my friend I'm very loyal to brands, apps etc that work for me and don't let me down and I don't chop and change to try other stuff. I've not heard of that app but I'm not looking to change from Viewranger as it has worked flawlessly for me out on the hill. I take 2 Anker 20000 Essential power banks along with the panel. I'm very power dependent what with my GoPro and filming YT videos and my reliance on my Samsung S9 Plus for navigation. I also have a back up Casio GPS watch which I keep in lower power mode just incase anything happens to my phone - very unlikely with a bullet proof Samsung but I could lose it. I also have a Fitbit to charge and cordless earphones too!😁 Now you see why I have to generate my own power on trail! 👍🍺😂

I tried solar about 15 years ago and it was totally useless, I'm interested to know on average how much charge you get out of it in a day. Is it enough to charge a mobile phone?
More than enough to charge a mobile phone mate. In my latest video I had it pulling juice out from around 5 am until about 8pm and it was mostly sunny but with some clouds and I got 3 bars out of 4 into my 20000 mAh power bank. Check out some videos of it on YT because like I said it's a game changer and it's only 60 quid. 👍😁
Looking at using the Outdooractive app for C2C, I think you used this? Did you pay for a subscription for the better maps? Thanks Snowy
I did pay for the premium maps when I was using Viewranger. Then Viewranger sold out the app to that other company. I didn't migrate my account over as I don't like the new app. I moved over to the OS app and pay for the premium maps. I used that on my recent Southern Upland Way adventure and I'm really happy with it. Whatever app you chose I would always pay for the better maps.👍 Hope that helps thanks for stopping by🍺
