Cash is king. Once it’s gone, it’s gone forever. Be careful what you wish for Absolutely great video though lol 👍🏽 going this weekend. Can’t wait. Thanks
Just back today from 3 nights in Ambleside. I used buses and they are very frequent between the major towns of Keswick, Kendal, Grassmere and Ambleside. I went up Bowness and the buses there were less frequent but enough to do a days hike in the langdale area. Same with going up old man of coniston. A three day multi bus ticket cost £27 and although it’s generally for the lakes, you can get as far as Newcastle in the east or Chester in the south ! Obviously a car is a better luxury , and you can get out as early and come back whenever at your convenience. Bus advantage is , you don’t pay parking fees and they are pretty well on time and all them places you have been were just as accessible via public transport.
Oh and if you go.back I'd recommend Buttermere to walk around or for the more adventurous , climbing up Haystacks. That's the view from it from my thumb nail picture .Wainwright's ashes were scattered up there.
Having been to the Lakes many dozens of times and climbed walked ambled paddled & wildcamped, your clip has got to be one of the best to introduce newbies to the Lakes. Simply Well Done ... 😎😎😎
@@jimgerace 5 nights plenty time to wet your appetite to re-visit the Lakes. I would recommend Ambleside for a number of reasons. When you have finished exploring around the lakes Ambleside is ideal for a gentle stroll round. It has for a small town an amazing amount of things to look at, and you can do it slowly over several days. Grasmere has the famous Ginger Bread and a number of things to look at, but a nice walk there and catch the bus back. Not sure if your self catering but a world wide choice of food in the various restaurants. Walking hikes are very easy from Ambleside the Tourist Info are the best places if you’re not sure. I’m not sure of your walking experience up hills etc, but I would definitely recommend for a nice easy challenge it to walk up Cat Bells 451m from Keswick approx 30min drive. Catch a ferry across and start your walk, utube has many views from Cat Bells and the views are truly amazing with Blencathra 866m and Skiddaw 931m. Hope you enjoy it 👍😎👍
From the USA -thank you for uploading. It's just the right length and the dialog is witty...camera work excellent - someday I might get to visit the Lake District. In the meantime, it's virtual visits everywhere.
The entire north west is beautiful, from the cheshire countryside to the large cities of Liverpool and Manchester, to yet more beautiful countryside and the forest of Bowland, pockets of the Yorkshire Dales and Lancaster, then finally up into Cumbria with the lake district and Solway coast. Beautiful part of the country.
@@Dave-hu5hr i never said Yorkshire was, i said pockets of the Yorkshire dales are, which is true. some parts of the yorkshire dales national park goes into the counties of Lancashire and Cumbria.
Disagree with cheshire. Lived there many years and 95% of it is just intensive farmland, a green desert. Cumbria and Lancashire have some breath-taking landscapes whereas cheshire only has a few small pockets of beauty left. Chester is a nice town, thats probably cheshires biggest attraction. I dont think that yorkshire counts as north west though.
My favourite place in the Lake District is definitely Grasmere for its lovely gingerbread and my second favourite place is Keswick for its amazing optical illusion museum. I really recommend Derwent water for those who like a long hike and lots of stunning landscapes, I also really recommend climbing/hiking up Blencathera. It takes all day to climb up and down again but at the end of the day it worth it seeing beautiful views. I hope this helped. 😊
I love starting a lazy Sunday morning watching a Suitcase Monkey video with the wife over coffee. Lake District is now on the bucket list of places to travel to.
Haha you’re so right, when you’re in the countryside, small villages or any place outside of the big cities, strangers actually say hello and engage in conversation
Just a quick tip to any new hikers. Don’t rely on internet apps for navigation unless you are staying close to urban areas. Always take a proper map and compass (and learn how to use them) as there are large parts of the lake district that have no cell coverage. Enjoyed the vlog by the way of one of my favourite places on Earth.
That’s excellent advice. Also to pack an extra set of warm clothes, torch light, lighter, compact Swiss Army knife and food in case of an emergency. And always inform someone where you’ll be heading to, what time you’ll be back and work out a contingency plan in case you become uncontactable.
1:37 Windermere! Not only the name of the largest lake in ENGLAND, but also the name of a former campground in Missouri, where I was born and raised and continue to reside! I went to Camp Windermere with my family two times.
Windermere! Wow! Taylor swift has a song named "The lakes" and there she mentioned "Those windermere peaks look like a perfect place to cry!" That's one of my favourite song of her!
On my one and only trip to the UK several years ago, we spent a day in the Lake District and went via bus. I was so glad not to be driving on the wrong side of the road! Also, it really is nice to be able to focus all your attention on the scenery instead of the road. In Grasmere, I happened upon an absolutely delightful little restaurant and discovered STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING. To this day, I've never had anything so delicious. I've tried looking up the name of the place and have never been able to verify. I'd love to go back to the Lake District. Every scene is like a postcard.
Some interesting historical facts - although originally Celtic the Lake District was heavily settled by Norwegian Vikings during the Middle Ages, and they left their stamp on everything from place names to valleys lakes and mountains, therefore the place names take on a Scandinavian flavour with Fell marking hills/mountains, Dales for valleys and Mere for lakes as in the Scandinavian languages and English which is heavily Scandinavian influenced. Places like Ullswater Bowness and Windermere are typical of those place names
I'm English and grew up in Derbyshire, another beautiful county. I've never been to Cumbria though, but how stunnigly beautiful it is ... breathtaking.
Love your vlogs soooooooo much!!! Thank you very much for new video! I watch it from Russia dreaming to visit England as soon as the borders will be finally opened
Love your videos and that quintessential dry British wit that you sprinkle so generously throughout your commentary. Would love to visit Lake District one day for my nature and hiking fix.
Hello from Outback Australia...we really enjoyed this video, such stunning scenery and your story telling was entertaining and informative. Thankyou for the tips!
Thank you for the video. We need more videos about the UK like this one. I think more British people should go on holidays in the UK. There is so much to the UK
The main problem is ridiculous prices . To stay overnight in just an ok place is around 150 and if you want something nicer it's over £200. It's just cheaper to fly somewhere abroad. At least I live in Manchester so I can do day trips to lakes..
The Lake District is one of my fave places in the world and my favourite in the UK. Absolutely love it, spent so many summers and autumn's here. Beautiful vid
I'm visiting Lake District next month and this video was very helpful in planning my itinerary. I'm really looking forward. I hope we have good weather!!
I’m in Melbourne’s 6th Lockdown 😩…after watching this vid I’ve been transported to place that I never knew existed?! Absolutely stunning!!! I always love your humour, personality and amazing cinematography thank you so much for your hard work, keep doing what you love cos we love it MORE 💖
If you love the look of the lake district then you would love Scotland as the lake district used to belong to Scotland as anyone can see from the scenery.
You say the roads are easy, but that is only because you stuck to the main roads. There are plenty of narrow, often single track, roads that can be very hard work, but lead to many fantastic places that you probably were unaware of. I'd recommend the road from Keswick to Buttermere via Honister Pass and the fabulous Wrynose and Hardnott passes for starters !
I love travelling around the lakes, another great video and great inspiration. Random fact the mountains around the lakes used to be the size of the alps, millions of years ago
Oh I wish I saw your video before we made our trip to Lake District a week ago. The weather was not on our side and I guess we will have to go back again. I really like the locals and professional hikers saying “Hello” to us when we are almost breathless going up the mountains, it’s like a little energy boost! Thank you for sharing your tips. Our trip will be better next time.
Love the Lake District. I’ve been to Windermere. Stayed overnight in Windermere and I fell in love with the scenery. So beautiful and I want to visit Lake Disttrict again when I visit UK next year. Your video is very informational. I’ll definitely stay at Grassmere next time.
What a finding!!! I am going to the Lake District in 2 weeks and this video is exactly what I was looking for. It will be our first hiking too and the tips at the end of your video were the icing on the cake. Thank you for sharing. Very well done!
We visited Castlerigg Stone Circle not far from Keswick and found both the circle itself and the amazing views down the fells to be well worth the drive.
The Lakes is my second home. Being only 50 miles away I visit quite regularly (if restrictions allow). My tip for Aira Force which you visited would be to skip the main car park by Ullswater. Head up the A5091 just after the main car park and use the Aira Force High Cascades Car Park. Quieter if you get there earlier and the walk down the falls instead of up is miles better.
Precisely what we did last week. Shame about the trees being down and the landslide closing some of the vantage points and footpaths. Still worth a visit though as the amount of rain now means stunning water volumes.
From the A66 drive to Thirlmere via St Johns in the Vale and venture beyond the usual tourist hotspots you will not be disappointed. Show the Fells respect and they will look after you no matter the weather and they will give you way more than I can put into words. I'm a Carlisle lad but the Lakes will always be my home...
Tempat sangat indah dan natural di Inggris danau distrik yang menawan. Senang bisa ikut menonton menikmati air perahu dan alam sekitarnya. Dan banyak fasilitas yang ada acomondation. 👍👍
In one word beautiful. You are the master of filmography some of the most beautiful scenes captured all on your Iphone edited and narrated to perfection. Loved this hiking tour video along with all your others I have watched.
The Lake District is on my travel list along with Cornwall. I live in the UK’s second city Birmingham so I try to take short breaks to the coast or countryside. Ambleside looks lovely
I went there when I studied in UK 🇬🇧 it is a magnificent pal e that I want my family to visit too this summer. I tired the ginger break, and the taste is incredible ❤
Outstanding video, love everything about this vlog. I spend a lot of time in the Lakes hiking, swimming in lakes, cycling, chilling. A big thumbs up for this brilliant personalised take on the English Lakes. I must admit your videoes are better than the ones by the Countryfile version! Keep up the great work! You should have your own TV channel! You have the charisma, voice that you can trust and soothing to listen to! 👏👏👏
Another 2 tips when hiking the fells. 1) DON'T EVER rely on an app. "I lost my connection" isn't much cop as an excuse when you get stuck up a fell, with no idea where you are. ALWAYS take an ordnance survey map! 2) When high on the fells, you'll notice a lot of sheep roaming wild. The problem is, that where you find sheep, they'll likely be affected by sheep ticks. Now sheep are quite practical when it comes to dealing with ticks, and they'll very often rid themselves of them by rubbing against local greenery and even against dry stone walls. Well guess what? the ticks are quite hardy and don't give up that easily, and will quite probably attach themselves to the next animal that brushes past them, even if that animal is a human. So, don't convince yourself that shorts are a really good idea when walking on the fells. To be perfectly safe, wear a pair of trousers, (and keep your bare arms clear of any greenery,) unless you want to be the next host to a sheep tick, and make yourself a possible victim of Lyme disease!
I had visited Lake District 5 years back and instantly fell in love. Place is not only stunningly beautiful but also very peaceful. I love your video and all the information shared. One thing which needed to be covered was activities available for kids. Since I had 3 kids so we found thrilling activities for them. Like zip line, tracks and jungle hicks for kids.
Me and my husband are currently planning a trip to the Lakes, after watching lots of videos yours is certainly the most useful thank you. Lots of very good tips and advice.
Yours is most descriptive, detailed and informative video on a Trip of Lake District. I saw so many videos of Lake District, but they are so confusing but yours is the most apt one. Thank you and continue with all the good work. All the best 👍🏻
Suitcase Monkey, at last! ….a TH-camr who ticks all my personal boxes…clear, concise narration packed with info and understated humour throughout, beautiful filming and music accompaniment that fits the subject and doesn’t destroy my eardrums. Best TH-camr On the internet IMO!
Haha hello! Thank you that’s very lovely to hear! Please tell you friends and hope you can enjoy the videos on this channel as I don’t post every week like the other TH-camrs! Hope that also ticks a box!
if your prepared to look around the areas there is also a lot of free parking , as it can become quite expensive over a week to pay for parking everyday.
We have some beautiful places in England and The Lakes is one of them! been there many times! my favourite town is Keswick and favourite lake is Derwent Water. Great memories.

Great video, one of the best videos for tourism 👏. The local buses are pretty good, take you to most areas, just check the time table for the last buses! Top job mate🏞👍🤘
Hiya! We watch ALL of your videos, but love the British ones the best.❤️🇬🇧 I had never heard of Kendal Mint Cakes before our summer in Britain this year. Our friends made sure we got a pack with all the flavours. It is unique stuff! Unfortunately I’m a weird American who thinks the Grasmere gingerbread is too spicy. I’m well known and reviled for this opinion 😂
You were trashed because you foolishly stated that you didn't like Ginger but somehow expected Gingerbread to taste of Cinnamon. The height of lunacy. 😁😁
A brilliant video! I am doing a series of videos on the UK with a student who is travelling there in a couple of months and although we have used materials far and wide, allow me to say yours excels!!!. Not only have I found the information extremely useful, but your accent and the way you speak is extremely professional and the Things I wish I'd known section was useful not only for the tips but also for the language. The music made for a delightful background. What can I say? A winner. Thanks a lot!
If all goes well, I will be back in 🇬🇧 by Sept. YOUR WONDERFUL VIDEOS HAVE LED ME TO SO MANY BEAUTIFUL PLACES. THIS IS ANOTHER AMAZING GUIDE, DONE WITH LOVE. YOUR PASSION IS SO OBVIOUS. I TREASURE THESE & want to really "Thank You" so much for the hard work that you put into all of the tours. You both are treasures. If you ever make it out to Malibu, i'd repay the favor helping you plan your trip, OR be your "in person" guide for 3 days, showing you areas that you would never find on your own....( U have my word). HATS OFF TO "SUITCASE MONKEY". Be well, happy & healthy. THANK YOU AGAIN!.

Beautifully filmed .I love Windamere & Grasmere are my favourites though & hold precious memories ..Always feel uplifted when in the lakes wonderful place feel grounded .Back to mother nature
Always look forward to these videos, went to croatia purely on the decision the video of your trip looked soo good, same hotel too! Couldn't fault it. Nice to see one of the lakes as its slightly closer to home. Such informational videos!
Just a tip about Cumbria its well worth taking out a national trust membership for couples, its about £11, but the free national trust parking makes it worth it and also we use it all year around and it really does pay for itself. Also MI Permit is used by the councils mostly in Cumbria and easier to park if you dont want to use coins everywhere.
Just found your channel (Feb 2024). I really enjoyed the video - your narration was lovely, nice voice and not too much. I've been visiting 'The Lakes' for over 50 years - now confined to a wheelchair, I particularly enjoyed your content. Looking forward to seeing more. TIP: There's a parking clock available for free (when I last visited) you'll definitely need one in Ambleside, Windermere and Bowness.

You drove past our house at Troutbeck Bridge, just next to the petrol station lol. Nice video, hope you enjoyed it here.
Thank you for sharing
The Lake District is on my travel list along with Cornwall. I live in the UK’s second city Birmingham so I try to take short breaks to the coast or countryside. Ambleside looks lovely
Ambleside is always very busy. If you want somewhere a little quieter that still has the scenery, try Coniston......
What a Vlog ...mind-blowing👍
Mind blowing?? Lols😂😂
Thank you for a very informative video. Yes the buses are very good, we stayed in Grasmere and left the car at the hotel went everywhere on the bus.
Great - and beautiful! - video, very informative. I'm bookmarking it for the next time we can get to the UK.
Love it! I really want to go to the Lake District. I might just copy everything you did, thanks!! 🤣
Go to --Bushman and blue--
I went there when I studied in UK 🇬🇧 it is a magnificent pal e that I want my family to visit too this summer. I tired the ginger break, and the taste is incredible ❤
Love all your hike suggestions! The Lake District is just stunning.
Do you think it's still nice to visit during autumn or maybe winter?
Yes! All the seasons are a great visit. For me, I love the different characters of lake district that the seasons bring @@stillfangirlingtoday1468
This video was great, thank you!! What a beautiful place.
Thank you so much. We love your video's, perfect balance of info and humour. Much appreciated 🙏
Yikes! Good tip.
This is dreamy. Adding it to the list. Loved my time in Somerset England and would love seeing more of this fascinating and beautiful country.
Wow! Such a beautiful lake! Water is so clear and nice....Want to visit here😍😍
stunning video, i love your quirky sense of humour and the tips section was really usful
Yours is most descriptive, detailed and informative video on a Trip of Lake District. I saw so many videos of Lake District, but they are so confusing but yours is the most apt one. Thank you and continue with all the good work. All the best 👍🏻
Thank you. We have done this for around 20 other destinations. Glad you enjoyed.
Agreed! I've watched your Lake District video about 5 times in preparation for my holiday, thank you so much!
Hope that also ticks a box!
if your prepared to look around the areas there is also a lot of free parking , as it can become quite expensive over a week to pay for parking everyday.
been following the channel for a while (pre-lockdown) happy to see you've surpassed 150k subs 😀 thanks for the video!
Thanks Peter!
We have some beautiful places in England and The Lakes is one of them! been there many times! my favourite town is Keswick and favourite lake is Derwent Water. Great memories.
Thanks for the video. Did the treks of Helm Crag and Easedale Tarn today. Invaluable tip on parking at Lancrigg. Thanks.
Thanks for this video! The shots are beautiful and your commentary so entertaining:)
You and your wife are so cute together!
We were just there 2 weeks ago! Your guide is so good, wish it could’ve been here sooner.
I go most weekends, im lucky to live less than an hour away...perfect place to re-set and not think about a thing. its impossible to feel stressed out there rain or shine.....nice video buddy
Hello Suitcase Monkey. That was an awesome video. We have been to Grassmere, and had lunch at the same restraunt overlooking the stream. Hope to get back there again in the future. Take Care and Thanks again. Chris and Sandra of Canada.
Great video, one of the best videos for tourism 👏. The local buses are pretty good, take you to most areas, just check the time table for the last buses! Top job mate🏞👍🤘
Hiya! We watch ALL of your videos, but love the British ones the best.❤️🇬🇧
I had never heard of Kendal Mint Cakes before our summer in Britain this year. Our friends made sure we got a pack with all the flavours. It is unique stuff!
Unfortunately I’m a weird American who thinks the Grasmere gingerbread is too spicy. I’m well known and reviled for this opinion 😂
I watch your videos nice to see you pop up here
You were trashed because you foolishly stated that you didn't like Ginger but somehow expected Gingerbread to taste of Cinnamon. The height of lunacy. 😁😁
@@ianpodmore9666 truly I am mad as a box of frogs 🐸
Lake district area of Englands quite seeing a fun about beautiful pleace
Wow that’s very kind of you. Thank you 😊
Beautiful places indeed! Highly recommend visiting this part of the world! Don’t think twice !!! The video is excellent and brings out the true beauty and spiritual energy of this place. Your suggestions are real gems! Enjoy🌲
I have recorded walk with me video around UK.
I would be happy to support my channel if you interested in. Thx :)
fm kolkata (India)...wow.l never go there..but heard about it....l fulfill my desire to see all .its amazing.thanks
That is the most beautiful national park in England .🥰
Great job, absolutely beautiful video and very information for our next holiday.
Check out Buttermere next time you go it's beautiful 😊
Just found your channel (Feb 2024). I really enjoyed the video - your narration was lovely, nice voice and not too much. I've been visiting 'The Lakes' for over 50 years - now confined to a wheelchair, I particularly enjoyed your content.
Looking forward to seeing more.
TIP: There's a parking clock available for free (when I last visited) you'll definitely need one in Ambleside, Windermere and Bowness.
how beautiful!! I hope to go there next time i visit to England.
I need that Grassmere Ginger Bread! Lovely vlog as usual! Love your content! ❤️
Can’t wait to travel again. Hello from California!
Just one S in Grasmere.
