The tracking version of dive bomb can be dodged by walking to his sideways and following a side roll right after his head lands. The spike explosion seems to be a wide frontal cone hitbox?

I'd like to make it so that MHW Evading Guides will be synonymous to our channel. Currently, I don't see any other channels that cover these topics so I'd like to step in
I'm glad this was recommended to me on youtube. Great series for helping out how to I-frames. Would love to see more with the harder monsters like raging brachydios and furious rajang given that they are quite the hurdle for most hunters.
I just reached HR100, and I got my @$$ wooped by 1st encounter with Ruiner Nergi just a few minutes ago. This guide is very helpful and informative. I'll face Nergi again in a few.
Flying charge has also four variations. One for each hand and one for each wing. He does this when he has black spikes on specified body part, and it breaks his black spikes on this part
My main issue with the first variation of the ruiner dive bomb is his tendency to intentionally miss. Like, you're standing right in front of him, and he purposely fires spikes to his left or right. This would make sense if you're in a group, fair chance he'll be firing his spikes at someone-but it's kinda hand holding in solo. The second variation, however, full on tries to kill you and I love it for its direct and brutal honesty.
There’s an attack similar to the flying charge, except this time, he uses his whole wing to charge at you, then follows that up with a sweep attack. How the heck do i dodge that.
I'm calling it, AT Ruiner's going to have spiky tracking Pepega slam. Or worse, the spikes are going to be either 180 on his left, right, front, or released 360 degrees all at once. p.s. nice guide, now I feel like I'm in a fighting game
With the head divebomb you can also keep rolling to the side but it has to be nearly perpendicular to nerg. I always do it successfully but then again it might be because of evade window 3
Great guide! The addition of the cones to show the AoE as well as showing multiple shots of the same attack is really handy. I feel like Ruiner Nerg is a solid G-Rank version of Nerg. The moves make sense as expansions/modifications of base Nerg. The only thing is that I feel (PC player here, so big grain of salt, just going off observations of various streamers) Ruiner Nerg's bigger moves like the Dive Bombs can totally whiff (even in the footage you used, except for the both arm Dive Bomb) since they're (mostly) aimed where the player used to be at the start of the animation. And since they have big starting and ending delays (which is good), it can look a bit weird that Nerg misses by such a huge margin. Maybe they'll be sped up more in (Arch) Tempered form?
Thank you for the feedback! I agree that his new moves make for a very "G-Rank" experience against him. As for his new dive bomb, in my experience it actually punishes greedy play even heavier than the original divebomb. The original dive bomb has a lengthy delay between the roar and the dive, thus most weapons can safely sheathe and do a superman dive. With the new divebomb, it doesn't give you enough time to sheathe and do a divebomb with most weapons. If you get caught out of position close to him when he roars, you have to make sure that you iFrame the hell out of that initial landing slam. It gets even trickier in a multiplayer setting because you have to find out who his main target is first. As for move difficulty, I actually think Ruiner Nergigante has a much more punishing and difficult move set compared to AT Nergigante. AT Nergigante didn't have any "Get-away from me" moves and Ruiner has around 5 of those now, all very quick and some are near impossible to dodge at close range. It really punishes greedy and aggressive play, in my opinion.
@@Taxman_HH Thanks for the detailed response! I definitely should take everything I'm seeing with a HUGE grain of salt since I'm a PC player and I can't even play the game. And there's plenty of content in EVERY game that looks "easy" and is way harder to actually play. I think AT Nerg is perceived as harder mostly because of the infamous slam, which could be spammed, and the fact that AT Nerg had G-Rank levels of damage and HP when we were all in HR gear. Ruiner is definitely more fair, and me seeing clips/footage of single fights isn't exactly fair to Ruiner. And in multiplayer I can definitely imagine him being more of a challenge for non-super-coordinated groups, since like you said, if you don't know the main target, you are more likely to be nailed by the new divebomb(s). Thanks for the response, and I'm excited for when I can eventually fight Ruiner on PC! Any chance you all will put up a (Scarred) Garuga guide, since it looks to be considered one of the most fun fights (hopefully you agree, otherwise WHOOPS IGNORE THIS)? Either way thanks for all the content!
Monster Hunter World PH Elites Nah the one handed dive bomb is a joke. Pretty much never get hit by it. Should've just made the double handed one the only one.
Oh man! You missed such an opportunity. When that black screen happened after Nergi's dive at the start, you should have put a Dark Souls "You Died" there.
Thanks a lot for the video. Although out of topic, I managed to do a 3212 damage wake up with HH. Would it be possible to make a video calculating how much damage dragon waves do?
Woah that's some insane numbers! I think sooner or later someone will do a proper HH damage calculation for that. I have heard that Impact Echo Waves do non-diminishing damage when stacked and that Dragon Echo waves have a diminishing value when stacked. Unfortunately, I am not that good with numbers so I may not be the right person to do your request.
World and Iceborne have been my first Monster Hunter experiences, and since normal Nergigante gave me a lot of trouble early game, I was very worried about Ruiner. Thank you for this guide, I'll have rewatch and study Ruiner's moves again before hitting MR 99. I cannot find the words to describe how much better I feel after watching this.
The move that annoys me the most with Ruiner especially Tempered version is the quick uppercut hook attack. Seems impossible to avoid it because it does it without warning. I prefer lance and think it's my best choice against Ruiner simply because I can counter block everything. HH is my second pick to use against it because for some reason I dodge better with it than any other weapon.
@@Taxman_HH hahaha it grabbed my attention instantly, man. 😌 I was always here, watching and mastering my dodges. I'm confident, I've been improving because of this. Because on PSP, I was just building MAX DEEEPSS build, and not worrying about the roars of monsters. Kasi, I have my supports and fwends around me.

Hmmm, you're right, I think I missed that one. I used to think it was the same move as the mini dive bomb. I'm not sure but I would guess the method would be to get as close below him and dodge forward. I'll have to test this out to be sure
Monster Hunter World PH Elites thanks and I’ll test it out too cause that’s the one dive I can’t seem to find a way to dodge yet Edit: I’ve figured it out. The tell window is ridiculous small but it’s the same as the left and right hand dive bomb, he roars quickly but pay close attention to which hand is raised, if it’s the right hand then you dodge left cause he’s going to land and drag on the right
You fotgot that there's an attack combo it does where it'll do one-two claw swipe attacks and then suddenly hop into the air and slam it's right arm into you/ground, or will do it instantly with no startup up or "tell".. anything you can recommend to deal with that?
Do you mean the one after the intro? Its a song I made in fruity loops to the tune of MHW's theme. It loops indefinitely. If you want, I can share a 3 minute version in soundcloud or any audio hosting site.
im assuming the player in this vid has tremor resistance on right? Cuz i keep getting tremored as i his roars especially for the double hand slam (GS user here)
I don't have tremor resistance here. I'm not quite sure why you are experiencing that because only his spike explosion move should have immediate tremor effects. The roars should not have tremors. For the spike explosion, the video mentions that you get tremor effects if you are too close.
@@Taxman_HH oh that kinda explains that. i like to stand and hit his face with my GS (when its weak of course). So how do i avoid the double hand slam spike explosion at close range (the one that tremored at close range) for GS since my attacks have pretty long commitment time? Cuz that move and the tracking dive are giving me some problems as a gs user
Sadly the instant attacks that punish over commitment don't really do much damage, so unless you're speedrunning and need as much uptime as possible then they're just annoying but not dangerous
You shouldn't think about which horn has the highest attack power or not when trying to decide which one you want to use (Unless you immediately want to go into speedrunning, which I won't advise). Instead, look at the available Songs a horn has and pick the one that you like the most. If you want you or your team to be tough, then get a horn with Defense UP. If you want your team to be immune to Roars, then get a horn with Earplugs L. Etc, Etc. Try to research on the horns from any MHW Wiki websites and then you can decide for yourself later.
Sorry but that cone of effect on his charges slam is more like the entire fucking front portion of ruiner nergi with how I strangely get hit while on the opposite side of him
Please take note that the 90 degree cone of effect is only applicable if his spikes are of the crystalized version. If he has the regular spikes by then (brown or black version), it will cover an area of around 180 degrees instead, as similar to a regular (non-ruiner) nergigante
I'm confused as to why you call this "claw to spike combo var1" at th-cam.com/video/SbWIayIoObo/w-d-xo.html when it looks exactly like a mirrored "ruiner charged slam" th-cam.com/video/SbWIayIoObo/w-d-xo.html Am I missing something or is this some editing mistake? Thanks for the hard work and the video.
You're missing the fact that the first attack has ruiner walk up to you slowly on his hindlegs before slamming down then almost instantly shooting out metal spikes outward completely horizontally while the second one is him doing an instant claw swipe then putting his hand down before slamming it a few moments after to shoot spikes slightly upwards
Should'n't have used hunting horn plus self improvement because other weapons can't move as fast without their weapon out, and the video wasn't titled specifically for horn players

You fotgot that there's an attack combo it does where it'll do one-two claw swipe attacks and then suddenly hop into the air and slam it's right arm into you/ground, or will do it instantly with no startup up or "tell".. anything you can recommend to deal with that?
Would be a great guide if it wouldnt cover just around 25% of the new moves...
I always turn off the frantic music when I fight Nerg.
What's the song in your video?
Do you mean the one after the intro?
Its a song I made in fruity loops to the tune of MHW's theme. It loops indefinitely.
If you want, I can share a 3 minute version in soundcloud or any audio hosting site.
@@Taxman_HH Sure, if you wouldn't mind
@@Taxman_HH I would like to have that version too

*How to dodge*

1:40 Good thing your counter attack worked :P
I swear this game has some wonky ass hitboxes. I love it, but I do hate it.
im assuming the player in this vid has tremor resistance on right?
Cuz that move and the tracking dive are giving me some problems as a gs user
does this apply for hos tempered version?
wait so regular and/or at nergi had the weird drifting attack he did for me at the first fight?
Rik Yes, it always had it since beta
He plays like AT Nerg in the fact that you shouldn't over commit to attacks
Sadly the instant attacks that punish over commitment don't really do much damage, so unless you're speedrunning and need as much uptime as possible then they're just annoying but not dangerous
im new to hunting horn and ive been using acidic glavenus horn, when and why should i switch to a different horn, such as the shara one?
I'm confused as to why you call this "claw to spike combo var1" at th-cam.com/video/SbWIayIoObo/w-d-xo.html when it looks exactly like a mirrored "ruiner charged slam" th-cam.com/video/SbWIayIoObo/w-d-xo.html
Am I missing something or is this some editing mistake?
Thanks for the hard work and the video.
You're missing the fact that the first attack has ruiner walk up to you slowly on his hindlegs before slamming down then almost instantly shooting out metal spikes outward completely horizontally while the second one is him doing an instant claw swipe then putting his hand down before slamming it a few moments after to shoot spikes slightly upwards
Also normal nergigante can do the first attack, except instead of metal spikes that cause bleeding it's just normal spikes for an aoe
Also also, the second attack caj only be done if ruiner has metal spikes on his left arm
Longsword players: “Ara ara...”

Should'n't have used hunting horn plus self improvement because other weapons can't move as fast without their weapon out, and the video wasn't titled specifically for horn players
hello i have guide for Charge blade
ezpz with ironwall 5
Step 1: Maintain Full HP and Shield (For great measures and ofc who tf doesnt charge his/her shield as a cb main)
Step 2: GUUUAAARRDDDDD!
Step 3: Laugh in Putangina
I couldn´t dodge anything without evasion mantle in base MHW.
For some reason now in iceborne (PC) i get alot of rolls and even hops sometimes only running evade window 3 on switch axe!
Either they did something to hitboxes not lingering as much or i got better.
Good news, the hitboxes didn't change, you simply got better.
@@Taxman_HH Might also be that i main switch axe instead of CB now. kinda useless to dodge on CB! xD
Evading??? I just tank it up everything with my guard 5 gunlance
Those spike explotions are so bs
Ruiner is a joke honestly, no scummy moves like AT Nergigante's instant dive bomb and very predictable since almost all it's moves have obvious tells and pretty long windups...
no scummy moves? sorry but his fucking roar locks you into all of his divebombs...if thats not scummy i dont know what is
Whoa these vids are incredibly helpful! Why have i only encountered this channel now??? Pls do rbrachy next, keep up the great work!
