I got 65% on my matric avg and my clean math was 7%. Even with that I am now in university doing my degree and getting 70-80% avg. Even my mathematics in university is 70-80% vs high school of 7-15%. I am study IT Management and now in my 3rd year. Passrate of my university is 50% and above for test, project and exam each.
@@BladeCrewthe points is not the problem, it is what you learn at varsity, and were you be able to do what you study for, 99% i can see failure in our country...people can not do what they study for...

That is because to pass a subject you need 70%. I completed my highschool via the American standard online, as I dropped out of government school in 2020, there's so much that I didn't learn from our CAPS system. So I was glad to have the opportunity to do something else, I truly feel for my younger peers.
Embarrassing really when you take in to account how much the delinquent ANC government dropped the standard, material is a joke and what's on the table is watered down basic subjects
It's not because the children are doing better, its because they are being forced through the system so the system looks better. Of course if you lower the bar more people will get through. Sure 87% of the matrics passed, but how many of them are actually able to get into tertiary education? They should measure the performance, not by what the passrate is, but rather the average or median.
Don't be confused. University entrance marks are much higher. The bigger issue here is that thanks to Cyril's BBBEE policies these young people won't have jobs or a future. 😢😢
I have recently employed a few people that have just passed matric 2023. 6x6 was not something they could answer, they also don’t know when it is summer in the northern hemisphere it’s winter in the South. Theses simple concepts that should be known by someone in primary school are not known by the majority of our matric passes. So I wouldn’t be congratulating ourselves just yet. SA has a long way to go before we are producing people that move the economy forward and stop producing people who can only survive on government grants.
I know people who think their children is very smart because they score so high... you should have seen her face when I told her that the standards is lower
Do they mean since '94? 🤣 you guys might as well be giving them away at the 30% threshold... Oh right then the D.O.E. will have no money to launder to the ANC
Prof Jansen of Free state University made an interesting comment many years ago. Even if you make 50% the pass rate, when it comes to a medical or engineering degree, that candidate will only pass with 50%. That means there is another 50% he/she does not know. Do you have enough faith in such a candidate to prescribe the right medication or the engineer to build that bridge that it is safe enough to use. A pass rate of 30% is totally unacceptable.
Realistically it should be at least 50% but having said that still not good enough for University Material. Maybe good enough to get into a Trade... Maybe
One must give our new minister time to implement changes to 1) pass marks,2) improving quality of teachers by reintroducing teacher training colleges and sending teachers to them every year and 3) training and having inspectors going around the schools inspecting qualities of headmasters/mistresses and teachers. Also reintroducing PT classes and sports in all schools to improve physical fitness of our kids.
Why did the South African matric student bring a ladder to school? Because they wanted to reach new heights... of barely passing with 30%! I mean, who needs 50% or more when 30% will do, right? It's not like the world is competitive or anything!
The privilege of this set of basic law to exercise the right to education has all the love and respect they deserve to feel validated and a title if a well looked after higher percentage is reached on a country's standards, feels wrong for asking this but back when progress was a lower standard of 45% just felt more like unique when his own year that was missed if mentioned and the test was a hard 80% on me because i missed 20% ? Didn't see my number that year in any newspaper😅
People are constantly blaming the low pass requirements for poor education. Pass requirement is nothing. It does not restrict any learner from achieving over and above. All it does is save those same critics in tax money because every child who has to repeat a year at school costs the state extra money. In most cases that repeated year doesn't benefit the child in any significant way.
If you live in the real world where these poor people are unemployable you realise that the incompetence costs a lot more than a few kids repeating a year
You can't not pass when you only need just 30% to pass your subject
Kind of easy to do when the passing grade is as low as it is
Whats next? We gonna make the pass mark 20% and then boast about our 97% pass rate? what a joke
30/100 pass rate what a joke
How many kids never finished their schooling? That's the number they never tell you.
Of the 1.22 million learners that started matric in 2013 only 58 752 have any hopes of going to and passing varsity.....
And you're proud
You have no shame! These 30% pass mark kids knows nothing after matric, NOTHING
The department of education force the teachers to pass the kids by given them a 80% pass point... ridicules.. and then they want to bragggg about it

@@BladeCrew What are you trying to explain?
..with 30% as "pass"? That's 70% you DO NOT know...imagine going to see a doctor who've passed his exams with 30%...
Considering that the pass rate is only 30% and less than 50% of pupils actually ever make it to matric, it's very foolish to celebrate this.
When the standards are so low the suprise is that the pass rate is not 100%
Ask a matriculated pupil to write a letter and you realize how terrible the standard is!
87% pass rate at a 30% pass mark is an embarrassment to South Africa. Disgusting 😡😡
Congratulations on churning out unemployable matrics - excellent achievement and contributing to the unemployment in this country.
The 12.7% that plugged didn't show up to write the exams.
For comparison, in the USA the pass rate is generally around 60%. Let that sink in.

This is ridiculous. People who know nothing have passed

Boss they even dropping the standards at Universities too now. Even the Trade Schools, in 9 Weeks you are a qualified Fitter!
With a 30% pass rate, sure really easy. Beyond pathetic, and they actually believe they are smart which is the saddest part.

I have 10 Interns myself and I won't take any of them or extend to 9 months it's a joke!
shocking omw
Sad ... So very sad 😢
(Don't raise the bridge, just lower the water 😂 )
The pass requirement is lower than my Afrikaans average 😂
Its funny to pass afrikaans in grade 8-9 is 50% and passing it in grade 10-12 is 40%.
It’s the thought that counts
Okay so no excuse for low pass mark. Raise it
The only way they achieved that is by possibly the 30% pass rate to 25%
What was the average pass rate. 30%?
30% EASY. SHAME
What is the profile of that pass rate? How many are above 50% mark? Hilarious!
@pajun1078
Only about 20% of the whole matric class (that passed ) passed with above 50%
Lets increase the pass mark to 100%, very easy to do..
Bs numbers with such a low bar
I know people who think their children is very smart because they score so high... you should have seen her face when I told her that the standards is lower
hahahahhahah 30% pass rate? what a joke!
Do they mean since '94? 🤣 you guys might as well be giving them away at the 30% threshold... Oh right then the D.O.E. will have no money to launder to the ANC
What is the average mark though? And what is the % of people who started school and matriculated?
Soon you only need to right your own name on the exams and you will pass 😂
The challenge is will they compete on a global scale

If you are wrong more than twice as often as you are right, you still pass. well done!
At 39% it shoukd be 100% 😂😂😂😂😂

Is 30% still considered a pass ? If so then these stats are bogus !
pass is still 30%, back in my day 50% was a pass. I'm 25 now.
I am sure you get 30% for just writing your name on the exam..................

and with these great results ( if the bar is set that low) still one of the worst school systems around the globe. But hey well done:)
