Mine would fail to crank sometimes and progressively got worse. I checked the fuse box, tested the battery and tightened the connections on the starter. Problem persisted. I then replaced the electronic component on the ignition switch. This fixed the problem. It's a $20 part. Extend your telescopic steering as far out as possible. Pry off the top cover of the steering column, Remove the electronic clip to the wiper stalk, remove two torx head screws on the back of the switch. Unplug the switch. Turn the gap on the new switch so it lines up properly. Don't put your keys in the ignition during this process or it will get stuck. It's hard to see, and you need to do it all by feel. Put your cell phone selfie camera back there to see what's going on.
