I feel like Toyota would be shooting themselves in the foot if they don’t add the 2.0 liter hybrid system for the next gen Corolla. The current 1.8 lacks the necessary power to compete with the new civic hybrid coming out with 200hp. They will lose a ton of sales over to Honda if they don’t upgrade it, or it might incentivize people to go more expensive like the new Camry, Corolla cross or the Prius
It's possible! Don't want to get my hopes up though. But here's a possibility: 2.0L cvt 169hp on LE/SE made in MS 1.8L hybrid 138hp LE/SE made in JP 2.0L hybrid 195hp XLE/XSE made in MS
I think the 1.8l hybrid system is just fine for the Corolla to keep prices relatively low. Toyota needs to provide the Prius a unique selling point and the 2.0l setup is one of those. Also, I expect the Civic Hybrid to have a significant price premium over the Corolla and compete more against the Prius.
@@mark_u I agree. Another comment about specs when they never drove the actual car. People who project their opinion of cars success based on specifications need to be smacked in the face with real life. Drive the FING car! Not only that, the pedal response is actually immediate because the electric motor fills in the gaps where the engine would naturally have to rev to get going. Agreed, but the thing is, they have already made the decision you are referring to off of current sales numbers. Toyota is fairly nimble for a large company, but they aren't that nimble.
Both the "wagon" and the "hatchback" can be had with the 2.0 hybrid here in Europe as well as the 1.8 hybrid for both models. Top models are already fully digital in the instrument cluster.
@@KirkKreifels Yeah, I also believe NVA is a little bit better with an acoustic front screen, etc. Two years ago I tested both the Camry and the Corolla on the same day, and I actually preferred the Corolla, because the seating position was lower and the cars felt very similar in driving.
Fully digital instrument cluster, and only one USB port (on my mid-term spec) and no wireless Android Auto. Toyota makes weird decisions like that sometimes.
The current Corolla rear side exterior design is perfect (with a sense of elegant), though I do feel the current front side needs a little more refinement to MATCH the rear side. It makes me feel the current corolla is a completely different car when it is viewed from the front compare to it is viewed from the rear.
@Kirk: The corolla is suppose to be low cost maintenance car, and simplistic to make it affordable for the customer to maintain, repair, Insure and own. They will never put in high end premium stuff that will break and cost the customer. Subaru impreza had light bezel that cost $2000 to fix on each light and one customer was complaining about that. If somebody wants a more premium buy, they usually go to the Camry. But it would be nice to see higher trims go a bit more premium, but for now the corolla is meant to be affordable, reliable car for the masses. Some people use their cars simplistically and want affordable.
@@fortheloveofnoise the world is not getting cheap for cars, due to inflation worldwide and man made corruption to get us out of our cars. American and Canadian car prices have gone up drastically, civic use to be 23g in Canada, now it is 34 to 47g. Truck use to be 33 to 50G, now it 60 to 130G. If the dollar yen exchange rate keeps at this lofty level for their repatriation profit back to Yen the way it’s been the last couple years that’s gonna be added incentive for them to keep making the hybrid in Japan
I would think they would release which ever is the less big news ie Corolla. I don’t expect much more than a refreshed front end and rear and new interior. The Rav4 on the otherhand is getting a massive update and is their beat seller.
I went to the dealership today. Not a Camry in stock. Some on the way. Check other semi local dealers. Same situation. You can all but forget getting a new 2024 in any trim. 🇺🇲
Miss the Japan made Corolla's. I have two 9th gen Corolla's, identical sedans, one Japan made and one Canada made. The Japan made Corolla has definitely held up better over time. Less interior noise, no squeaks, engine wear much less. Quality control is so much better in Japan even today I believe.
The Corolla is a sweet ride. Good price great fuel economy. If you need a cat go for it. If you have the time wait and see. At the vet least you might get the current Gen a lil cheaper
I suspect a tall and normalized Prius. Think of the Prius as the futuristic prototype, so more upright, practical over looks - including packaging to try to keep them a reachable car for hopefully many.
I wish they came out with a with a corolla that's honda civic SI equivalent. High revving 2.0L 200+ hp stick shift econo box you can beat on for cheap. Maybe around 25k?
Hey Toyota, if you are not gonna give us the GR Yaris, give us a GR Corolla wagon....and since it will be too expensive to get that body style tested for America just for that 1 model, also bring the wagon to the normal models to balance the cost.
My bet is Toyota may step up the interior game this time in a bid to close the gap with the competition. I don't think they go full Mazda with the luxe, but I can see them matching what Honda did with the latest Civic at least. A HP/TQ increase (along with slightly shorter gearing on the manual and a shorter shift lever) at least on the XSE trim would be greatly appreciated as well. Hell, if Toyota wants to go toe to toe with Mazda they already have the 2.5l in the Camry (among other cars) that makes more HP and about the same torque as Mazda's na 2.5. Can you imagine how fun the Corolla hatch would be with about 206hp and a short throw 6 speed stick? Yes please..
The 12th gen Corolla hatchback went into production June 2018 and the sedan in January 2019 The 5th gen Rav4 went into production November 2018 5 months after the hatch and 2 months before the sedan So there is precedent for both being introduced in the same calendar year. And a 2027 intro for the next Corolla would put the Hatch at 8 model years (1st in US was 2019) and the sedan at 7 which would be historically long lifespan for the Corolla
Current Corolla generation has been out since 2018. By 2025, it'll be out for 7+ years. Hope the new generation comes out soon to better complete with the civic. Really I'm wanting a GR Corolla but can't justify the size and styling for $42k. At $42k would get like a GR Corolla Wagon or next generation Corolla (not 6+ old styling) or make the GRC more playful/RWD feeling.
My wishlist 1. More powerful hybrid engine 2. Put 17” wheels on the XLE trim not 18” 3. Larger rear passenger volume and something like 14” cubic feet trunk volume 4. All trims should get a digital gauge cluster
I read next gen Corolla will be a 2027 model (which means it will be introduced @ April 2026). With the exception of the CVT, current Corolla is a good car.
Toyota is very good about doing an all-new generation, and then 5 years later doing a refinement generation The next Corolla won't be all new, or on a new platform, so its not worth waiting for. As he said, if you saw what they ddi with the Camry, expect the same with the Corolla Going all hybrid, with a nicer, more tech advanced interior
The new Prius has the extended 'TNGA-C' wheelbase that every other Corolla variant ought to have. If Toyota equips the next Corolla with a generous wheelbase, sufficient headroom and the impressive 2.0 Hybrid powertrain, they will show the Civic who is boss.
Given what has happened in the last 10 years, it's going to be difficult to keep the cost of a new Corolla at a similar level to the current model. Probably Toyota will string out the current generation Corolla as long as possible.
Any news on Sienna pluginhybrid or with e-axle? I’ve heard people crying how slow current hybrid is and they jump to 3.5 Odyssey or Pacifica plug-in hybrid
I wish that toyota would consider making a corolla gr sedan, because the hatch back is really not tall people friendly. I am about 6'1" and i barely fit in the back of the hatchback corolla. But i fit in the sedan good.
Toyota world is saying the new Rav4 wont come out till 2026, there will be another year of the Current Rav4, unless they debut the 2026 Rav4 and the end of next year.
I think Toyota is going to do exactly what they have with the Camry. Not quite a full redesign (mostly aesthetic changes, fine tuning, etc). The chassis will likely be exactly the same. Most of the modifications will be aesthetic. I would expect a push for hybrid only as well and the Hatchback being offered as a hybrid in North America finally. I would also expect Toyota to finally drop the 2ZR engine for the M20A only due to its superior efficiency and power. I think there will be more focus on economy than even in the new Prius which is now more of a premium vehicle. The Corolla must still offer trims that will get the best fuel economy thanks to narrow tires and small rims. After all, economy and reliablity is the Corolla buyer's most important desires above all else.
You can't keep wanting nicer product with the prices staying the same. To be less expensive you have to make some small compromises. What are the US manufacturers doing in the space of hybrid cars?
a simplified BZ3 design for the new Corolla should be a much better looking vehicle. What I really dislike about the interiors are the soft-tex seat covers. A Hybrid AWD Tourer would be awesome.
The Honda civic looks so much better and has good power for 2025. I'm waiting to see if the new Rav4 has the same power train as the new Camery then will make a choice between that and the Honda CRV hybrid. Thanks for all the good information!
They are phasing out the 1.8L in Europe, and the price with the 2.0L has shrunk too (it's also available for touring and hatchback). I wouldn't be surprised if the Corolla hybrid will be 2.0L only in a year. They could gain an inch of space with slimmer front seats. As for the rest, dunno if they want to compete with the Civic, which is more modern, or keep it lower cost. As for the Touring model,... Nah. They'll market the Cross instead, which is a shame, the Touring is a great car (I have one, 2.0L hybrid). A taxi's favorite in europe.
We just ordered a rav4 2024 hybrid and they said that redesigned is not coming until 2026 latest. Because the dealership already have details on rav4 2025.
Most new model years show up around summer / fall of the previous year, so yeah technically in 2026 but realistically in 2025 as a 2026 model. These same dealers will also gladly sell you an outgoing generation while they have the new generation models currently in transit to their dealership
If everything is going to be Hybridized, wouldn't the cost of repairing them also go down or will it be a huge problem like repairing EVs? thats my biggest question. Back then repairing hybrids was also expensive so idk whats going to happen, I just know EVs are not meant for everyone and everything.
The Corolla will still keep the gas option for most people. Hybrids with time hopefully will be cheaper but for now my advice is if your vehicle is still working the way it should then keep it and at the same time letting those in government know that EVs are not the way to go just yet
I really hope Toyota doesn't start abandoning sedans like most brands are doing at this point. Their SUVs are getting all the nice stuff while the sedans just get basic updates. I really hope they follow Hyundai's footsteps at one point cuz they are doing great and it would be stupid not to take a couple tips from them. After all Akyo Toyoda did say "no more boring cars".

I hope the 2.0 hybrid is offered in higher trims in Australia even as an option like I believe they do in Europe - being able to select the 1.8 or 2.0l for some trim levels.
Depends on sales when they remodel. If it is still selling well they will let it ride if sales slip you can expect a revision.
Agreed, but the thing is, they have already made the decision you are referring to off of current sales numbers. Toyota is fairly nimble for a large company, but they aren't that nimble.
@@ytj22 Depends how much of a refresh they plan. By the sound of it, it isn’t much.
Both the "wagon" and the "hatchback" can be had with the 2.0 hybrid here in Europe as well as the 1.8 hybrid for both models. Top models are already fully digital in the instrument cluster.
Corolla is a HUGE seller in Europe which also is more competitive market. Toyota waters everything down here except for expensive trucks.

New corolla wagon gonna be a beauty of a car
The Corolla is not affordable. They need to bring the Yaris back, then we will have an affordabke Toyota again.
@@fortheloveofnoise the world is not getting cheap for cars, due to inflation worldwide and man made corruption to get us out of our cars. Yes 22gstarting is affordable, because the cars values have been going up. You cannot buy a car under 20 G anymore. When the FRS sells here for 30g, it sell in Europe for 50. American and Canadian car prices have gone up drastically, civic use to be 23g in Canada, now it is 34 to 47g. Truck use to be 33 to 50G, now it 60 to 130G. This will eventually happen in the United states, and then you will see massive shift to small cars.
@@fortheloveofnoiseCorolla does cost more upfront and from someone who owns one which is the 2020 model from new, it’s very cheap to maintain compared to almost all sedans as far as maintenance goes. Until now the only thing I replaced were tires and that’s it.
2 liter hybrid wagon with 4wd, please.
Oddly enough, the 1.8 Hybrid Corolla Touring wagon in Japan offers AWD but the 2.0 Touring Sports in Europe does not. 🤔
Looks nice! Please integrate the info system into the dash
Hopefully they use the substantially extended wheelbase from the Prius for the next Corolla.
Im definitely in! Try and beat Heights from Latitudes!!!!
Lets wait for the new Corollla !!
Speaking of wagons, can we be more specific on the sale date for the Signia; something more specific than summer '24?
I heard as early as may ... but that ship has sailed.

I hope its a complete redesign, current sedan styling is very foregtable
The 12th gen Corolla hatchback went into production June 2018 and the sedan in January 2019
The 5th gen Rav4 went into production November 2018 5 months after the hatch and 2 months before the sedan
So there is precedent for both being introduced in the same calendar year.
And a 2027 intro for the next Corolla would put the Hatch at 8 model years (1st in US was 2019) and the sedan at 7 which would be historically long lifespan for the Corolla
I think the Corolla will get a new hybrid drivetrain based around the M20A-FXS engine with a total power output of around 180-185 bhp.
As much as I want that, I don't want to get my hopes up for it. Cheers!
@@KirkKreifels it’s certainly going to be higher than the M20A-FKS’ 169 bhp, that’s to be sure.

My wishlist
1. More powerful hybrid engine
2. Put 17” wheels on the XLE trim not 18”
3. Larger rear passenger volume and something like 14” cubic feet trunk volume
4. All trims should get a digital gauge cluster
I wouldn’t expect too much from the RAV4 either considering they can’t make it as luxury or as nice as the Crown Signia…
Toyota can’t make anything nice 😂. Even the crown signia is nothing to write home about

I read next gen Corolla will be a 2027 model (which means it will be introduced @ April 2026). With the exception of the CVT, current Corolla is a good car.
As long as we still have a GR version I am happy.
Toyota is very good about doing an all-new generation, and then 5 years later doing a refinement generation
The next Corolla won't be all new, or on a new platform, so its not worth waiting for.
As he said, if you saw what they ddi with the Camry, expect the same with the Corolla
Going all hybrid, with a nicer, more tech advanced interior
Can they finally make the Corolla a true civic competitor? Hopefully they can make enough improvements to TNGA-C
The new Prius has the extended 'TNGA-C' wheelbase that every other Corolla variant ought to have. If Toyota equips the next Corolla with a generous wheelbase, sufficient headroom and the impressive 2.0 Hybrid powertrain, they will show the Civic who is boss.
As long as the GRC stays around I'm happy.
I hope they improve the rear. From a quarter side rear view, the current model looks really weak from the rear.
Given what has happened in the last 10 years, it's going to be difficult to keep the cost of a new Corolla at a similar level to the current model. Probably Toyota will string out the current generation Corolla as long as possible.
I think the new corolla will have a similar interior style to the current CHR in the European market.
They should develop a 1.6l hybrid about 120hp and 50+mpg for the Corolla.
Only way it gets pushed back that far is if arene isn't ready and the north Carolina battery plant is under performing.
@@KirkKreifels makes sense, your probably right for sure
They should do a hybrid “sport” in the Corolla with the 2.0L hybrid.
I hope they make them affordable again. Everything seems to be going further upscale. The starting price has gone up $9000 in 9 years where I live.
Toyota should really consider taking wagon version into other regions.
We need that Corolla hatchback hybrid with 230hp lol so we can have fun and be good on gas.
Make a corrolla wagon
👍👍👍👍 They make at least 3 variants of the Corolla wagon today.
Corolla Touring.
They need to bring it over to North America.
Please share if there's any update on Corolla Cross Hybrid.. Already it's in other markets but not in NA
No update. I did make a video on this Thai model though.
Just a test a Pure full Electric GR Corolla Sedan
What’s new in the new Corolla cross hybrid in 2025
Hatchback and Sport Tourer (wagon) have a 2L hybrid in Europe. I have a GR sport 2L hybrid hatchback
The Camry interior has a Century vibe.

The Sienna and camry are full hybrid. I think the Rav4 and Corolla will be full hybrid for the next gen.

Personnally i'm waiting for the next rav 4. But it seems that info on the bext rav 4 is very scarse.
The 2025 Corolla was just posted on Toyota website.. almost nothing changed
a simplified BZ3 design for the new Corolla should be a much better looking vehicle.
What about a BEV Corolla minimum 64kWh pack? To take on the Bolt!
A hybrid 1.8L carryover would be so disappointing. Use the 2.0 with the hybrid!!
In my opinion any car doing 0-60 8sec or 1/4 mile in over 15 sec is in driving is a diaster in making
We just ordered a rav4 2024 hybrid and they said that redesigned is not coming until 2026 latest. Because the dealership already have details on rav4 2025.
Yes the Rav redesign is for 2026 model year.

Wish they'd ditch the cvt on the gas engine 😡
I hope they keep an ICE option in the lineup.
They have to. It’s already good as is. I have a 2020 LE and everything is so refined and the fuel mileage for ICE is still good up to over 40mpg
That grill is so unnecessarily huge.
Since the RAV4 is due for a redesign in 2026, the Corolla will get it for 2027 bc a new Corolla comes after the new RAV4
