Absolutely terrifying detail that actually foreshadows the twist that the zombie-like enemies here were once human: Perceval’s manslayer ability (1% chance to instantly fell a human on any given attack) actually works on these guys, and i know this because i was fighting the Relic-Holder Tyrannor, and all of the sudden his healthbar exploded as soon as Morag started attacking with him. Chilling implication if you saw this happen on a first playthrough and didn't understand the full context behind Morytha's state yet.

Klaus did live on Earth and before all of this there was an enormous war, after using the Conduit during this war, Klaus didnt destroy earth, only created (or bridged) alternate dimensions where the majority of humans were flung to and a good majority of Humanity's civilization was torn apart. Even then there were still humans on Earth.
Klaus then created core crystals due to his guilt to kickstart new life, but the remaining humans on Earth tried to use that to gain immortality which backfired immensely which would of course lead to the ruining of what was left of humanity, later blanketed by the cloud sea.

The entire area of Morytha was MIND-BLOWING. M-I-N-D HYPHEN B-L-O-W-I-N-G. The crosswalks, the roads, the buildings; this place was essentially a futuristic version of OUR WORLD at the bottom of the Cloud Sea. This part of the game was amazing and so well executed. You land here with Mythra, realize this was the birthplace of the Architect, the divine creator of the world as you know it, and for the first time it really hits you that Alrest is a dying world. You realize that, maybe Jin, Malos, and Torna, have a point. Humans haven't changed. One day Alrest might end up like this place. Who'll play god then for another 2000 years? Will there be another one at all? The Architect was supposed to be divine, yet here his home is, in ruins. You find Torna, which is bad on it's own, then the game hits you with a double whammy and you realize that the Guldos are humans.

And to think that those zombie-like enemies (Guldos) found in Moritha were actual humans... this place is both creepy and sad the same time.
Edit: after playing the game again, I realized something: at the end, this world is abandoned in this state forever. As the cloud sea dissipates, warp holes start appearing, and the Titans go through them, to XC 1's world. As the party descends from the Beanstalk, Azurda says: "I'm going through that warp hole" and they vanished, as Moritha stays behind... Forever in that state.

That would've been cool, honestly. Kinda glad that they didn't go that way, and that's with no hate for xbcX. I only played a little bit of it, but it felt the same for as the first game did. They were ok, just not my speed. However, them remastering the first one has me hoping they'll change the combat to the xbc2 controls, so I'll probably revisit. But I was a little let down that there wasn't a tie-in for xbcX, would've been cool to have a nod at the whole xbc family. Hell, if they remastered xbcX I'd probably revisit that as well as xbc1, but both games definitely need the quest navigation and controls that xbc2 had and then I'd be happy camping.

    SPOILERS:
This place was very beautifully haunting. Very bone chilling. It kinda feels sad seeing this place. It feels even more sad when you realise this is earth. This has our stuff in it. The speed limit signs, the buildings, etc with a bit more futuristic stuff, but it's there. And it becomes even sadder when you learn and realise who the monsters down in morytha actually are. They were people. They were the humans that were left behind after Klaus's experiment and now look at them. They're monsters fused with the crystals forced to live forever. They are at least human enough to recognize you, but nothing else. What's worse is when some of them are on their knees, looking up at the sky. Almost as if they want the suffering to end. This game had me shook when I came here. The violin didn't help either lol. To me it added the creepiness and sadness a bit, followed by that howling wind and the atmosphere altogether

Quite fitting, considering that that "land of morytha" roughly translates to "land of the dead", and that the tower of Geddon in Chrono Cross was in an area called the "sea of the dead" (IIRC the name "tower of Geddon" was an addition from the localization team; in the Japanese version it was simply called "ruined tower").
