- As promised, a medley of all versions of You Will Know/Recall Our Names from the Xenoblade Chronicles series, including:

(As a side note, for some reason, TH-cam Studio keeps previewing this video at like 480p, even though it's rendered at 2560x1440, so hopefully it looks fine once it's up, but the audio quality is fine regardless.)
I'm still playing through Xenoblade 3 at a very slow pace, despite ignoring most of the side stuff. I'm very excited to see all the other musical and visual references to the series they've hidden. As of chapter 3, and aside from the obvious ones, I've already caught a couple of story beats that parallel 1 and 2, as well as some camera angles that directly parallel a scene from the first game.
And of course, the music is great, but we all knew that.

I love how these songs can either mean you're in a great epic battle or you're running away for dear life
I love how both of 2's specifically have really alarming beginning riffs, and unless you are strong enough stand your ground and engage the fight you'll never hear the main part of the songs
@@59hawks I mean, that's a distinct part of all of them. 1, X, 2, and 3 all have that.
Its more prevalent in 3 than anything else. The longer you stay in the fight the more you hear the flute, until by the end of the fight the flute is the primary instrument. And considering military flautists are used to honor the dead and send them off to a new life, it's a good way of indicating your victory as well as telling your opponent they can finally rest.
The best is when the rift kicks in right as you pop a chain attack. The thrill is unmatched

The xenoblade team really just looked at the previous soundtracks and said. "You know what this rock orchestra style we got going on needs more? FLUTES!" And just proceeded to fill the entire soundtrack with them.

I realised while looking at the blade designs next to each other that both the Shulk's monado and Pyra's aegis sword are single sided, but Noah's veiled sword is double sided. the symbolism in this game is crazy.
It also works that Pyra's sword is single sided but Mythra's sword is double-sided. Everything is connected in Xenoblade

The Finale is so triumphant. Xenoblade went from a Japan only niche project for MonoliftSoft to a dramatic internationally known Trilogy. What a wild ride. And I’m so excited for the future
I seriously can't believe that a world exists where this franchise didn't even make it out of Japan. Would've been such a loss.
Hopefully, a Xenoblade X remake or remaster happens since it's pretty much the only Xenoblade game and Wii U game that hasn't come or has been made for the Switch.

im so sad xenoblade 3 has a special song for chain attacks. nothing brings me more joy than starting a chain attack right as the guitar riff kicks in, as time freezes and the music becomes more prominent.

One of the worst design decisions I've seen in a game musically, ever. Like, worse than the constant track shifts in the trial scenes in the Phoenix Wright vs Professor Layton game. Absolutely ruins the tension and energy of the fights. "You wanna see what we can REALLY do? Mess up the mood! Yippee!"
Yeah, XC1 has the vision theme interrupting the boss music a lot, but at least the vision theme is also a banger

@@drewbabe I think the reason they did it is because it worked very well in XCX. The overdrive theme was just out of this (and that!) world. And yes, even interrupting Uncontrollable
Let´s be honest You will know our names gets interrupted by visions all the time and that is WAY MORE ANNOYING
I think 1 shreds the hardest, but 3 is the most musically interesting. I am so in love with the fake-out at 8:37 into the key change, it's so next level.
The fake out could've made for such a badass accompaniment to a cutscene fight. I'm imagining Y getting ready to take a hit to the chest from Lanz's ouroboros form and as the fake out drops they split and Sena busts his kneecap with the hammer from below.
the three different songs make you eargasm on a spiritual level
Arguably a callback to counterattack, which does the same thing with similar notes
Key changes in xeno OSTs are undefeated
I also always admired the chorus at 7:42. Love how the flutes start out almost melancholic and then join in to form an even richer chorus than the first one
3's OST really has a LOT of 'little somethings' like this
I love how theres always a point to each one that the community at large agrees is "That One Part".

I absolutely love how the design of Noah's sword is a combination of the Monado and the Aegis sword, it really shows how 3 is the culmination of the Xenoblade series and puts the previous 2 mainline games together with themes and aspects
All of these themes make me feel like I can kick some serious in-game ass or conquer a great challenge it gets me so pumped up

you know it probably has been said a million times already but I can never get enough off the idea that the songs sound dreadful at the start, this shows that you're going against a strong enemy and if you only hear the beginning of the song that means you're probably not strong enough to face it but once you are, the song becomes triumphant to symbolize that you can win against a strong opponent. amazing soundtrack
The more of the song you get to hear, the higher your odds of winning.
Meanwhile, in the alternate timeline where Shulk, Rex, & Noah got into Smash…

I think Mio could be more mechanically interesting. There isn't really a character in Smash whose specific goal is to evade attacks. There are campers obviously, but that's not what I mean.
Plus it helps balance out the gender ratio (I don't personally care that much but some do so... woo) and Mio isn't another Swordfighter. Get some more weapon variety in there with her Circle Daggers.

these are fantastic, but they're infinitely better if you imagine the party members from their perspective games being the ones playing the instruments. the image of noah and mio nearly bursting blood vessels playing those flutes is near and dear to my heart

Im just finishing my first run on the og xb on wii (that is also my first Xenoblade) and Gawd Dayum that guitar riff is killing me
There is nothing that riff can't hype up.

It's worth it, trust me. The soundtrack is amazing and the story (especially the first one) is great
Look up some guides, on the gameplay, if you haven’t already. It’s incredibly complicated, and you need to figure out a bunch of weird things the game doesn’t make too obvious, to get past some roadblocks in your journey. Speaking from experience.
Xenoblade 2 has the best combat and very good story and world but a lot of flaws

I absolutely love all 3 of these themes. They sound so full of hope and optimism, while at the same time have the energy within them to let you know there's something going down. All 3 are excellent pieces of music. I love this franchise and can't wait for the next installment!

My ranking: You Will Know Our Names (XC1DE), You Will Know Our Names Finale (XC3), You Will Recall Our Names (XC2). All of the games are fantastic and the music is phenomenal, this is just my opinion and how hard I’ve jammed out to each. So the first has that very special place in my heart when I’m in need of a confidence booster, and XC3 has climbed up there too.
Same, though I'd also put the OG You Will Know Our Names above the DE version.
@@XiaNaphryz Yeah the OG is good, but I much prefer the DE version for the added brass. The OG had synthesisers that sounded vaguely like brass instruments but didn't have the natural oomph. So I'm really glad that the music got a full redo with live recordings instead. Trumpets and Electric Guitar playing together have become a minor staple of Xenoblade's musical footprint and it works really well.
@@vickienorgrove5480 understandable, for me the more rock-leaning arrangement of the OG version overrides the more synth sounding instruments.
I feel like the original is probably my favorite too, mostly because I’ve heard the most of it. I haven’t heard Finale in game yet, but I like what I have heard. I’ve never played 2, so I don’t know it very well, but it sounds nice.
I think I just found the most civilized discussion about these themes to have ever ended up on the internet.
Still a huge missed opportunity for them to call XB3's version You Won't Forget our Names.
They really make you feel like you can beat anyone. Such masterpieces.

I just realized Xenoblade 1 and 2 xenoblades are one edged swords was Noah's the game where both worlds have combined into one as a double-sided blade it also looks like a really good fusion between the two styles that's a neat little detail

I'm so glad this series really seems to have found it's audience! I've been following this story he's been trying to tell since Xenogears - watching it's evolution with every iteration to date. Spoiling nothing, the Finale both feels and sounds like victory after everything this series and creators have gone through. You can "really feel it" lol

What I like most about You Will Recall is that if you're good at the game and have the right party setup, your chain attack starts right as soon as that first lull in the energy of the song begins (2:40), and you reach tend to reach overkill by the time the song picks back up (3:02). Almost like they composed it knowing that. You Will Know is still the catchiest song, though, I just wish XC1 didn't ruin it with the vision theme constantly.

Really enjoyed this medley, though my two gripes are that you cut of YWKON-Finale (Climax) a little early and that there’s also a small 5 second segment that loops right before you kill a UM.
I really wanted to include those bits too (I had the audio file for the second one lined up and everything) but just because of the way the "chorus" of the song starts on a syncopated beat, it would've had a really jarring transition. (Basically a huge cymbal crash and the start of a guitar solo would play for half a beat and immediately cut out) I'd have to look closer at how they do it in game, but based on the context of when they play, there's a good chance they just cut it in on the next available beat regardless of where you are in the song.

I really looked forward to hearing the solo for XBC3 since 1 and 2 taught us each game would have a badass track for the tougher field enemies...
And honestly while I love Finale, it isn't badass...I have no idea what that solo is but it's amazing and made me tear up inexplicably...its so nostalgic sounding

I would love too, but if I'm not mistaken, they're all in different keys and change keys within the songs themselves, which would make it really tough to pull off. Listening to the outros/intros of each one, it sounds like it could work harmonically, but it'd be a bit of a stretch.
I'm not opposed to it though, and I'll definitely give it a shot at some point!
