One lesson from playing pauper
Urza block is uniquely busted at all levels.

Lurking Skirge isn't the first black 'sleeping' enchantment creature. Urza's Saga had one black one, Lurking Evil. It's a bit different, in that you can activate it as a creature yourself by paying a cost (half your life) rather than waiting for something your opponent does to trigger it. But it is an enchantment that transforms into a creature.
Great show as usual, Evan. I'm green with envy with the hard work that went into it, and while my script has a slightly different focus than yours, you've got everything covered that needed covering. Keep up the stellar work.
The irony of this set being Urza's LEGACY is not lost. This is a set that will forever be a huge part of Magic's overall legacy.

Oh man I am so hyped for your take on the Weatherlight Saga Evan! Ahh it's hard to wait. Okay, about this video, it was great work as always.
While I love the Gauntlet of Greatness and like that you probably introduced some people to it in this video, I don't think the clip you put in fit very well. I think it would have been better for you to mention the Gauntlet of Greatness, then walk us through the combo showing the cards as you mention them. It would have been faster and smoother for the video. Then you could have provided a link to the Gauntlet in the description. That's my only quibble though.

While these sets caught, and still catch a lot of flak, I VERY fondly remember them. Maybe it's because I was a young'un at the time as a senior in high school, but holy crap, Magic was an absolute blast back then. It took a lot of creativity to discover ways to beat these crazy fast decks. Raging Goblin was a total beat down back then. It was common in our circle of friends to say "Turn one Raging Goblin. I win."
Chaining Academies and Cradles with Crop Rotation, doing busted stuff with Dream Halls, trying to rush past those decks with Sligh or Ponza, busting out massive amounts of Pestilence damage with Lake of the Dead and Witch Engine. Magic was crazy back then, and it was a LOT of fun. I find current design to be very dull and linear in comparison.
Could it be rose colored glasses? Maybe... I went to a lousy school in a bad area with teachers who didn't care, and playing Magic in high school was a respite, and were I finally made some friends. All of my closest friends, I made through playing Magic. I was playing a game, and my opponent slumped over in his chair and dozed off. His blood sugar got too low, and I at the time, had no clue he was diabetic. This was 1995. He called me while I was watching this video, 20 years later.
Lots of fond memories of Urza's block. I did recently look through Legacy, and think to myself "Holy crap, this set was busted", but damn was it fun.

This was around the time I started playing Magic. Needless to say, I lost to a lot of combo decks both before and after the bans. I can't wait for your Urza's Destiny videos where I have no doubt you'll talk about my most hated deck of all time - Replenish.

Incredible series. I played MTG back in the day, stopping at Judgement. Just got back into it during Theros and while I enjoy competitive play the history of the game (both mechanics-wise and lore-wise) is just as if not more fascinating. At the moment I'm struggling so I'm afraid I can't support the show monetarily but until the day that I can I look forward to new episodes.

This series is pretty darn cool. As someone who stopped playng after 96 and just got back into it 3 months ago, this is all new to me. So does this series go thru each block and discuss the big topics or just pick and choose important moments in MTG history?

I find it interesting how so many people hated the tournament scene and left the game during "combo winter." Yet, so many people seem to love playing modern.

remembering back in the day I played a Recurring Nightmare deck I loved this Era of standard, it wasn't until I saw Caw Blade that I almost quit magic all together. Jace made so many bad players good lol

Urza is dead, right? If not, then it'd be awesome to see him return. I'd like to see an Urza planeswalker card! xD
Wow, am i the only one that loved type 2 at the time? It was not just urzas saga, back in the day 1 sideboard card would kill and many time you would have no real answer for it in your color, much like circle of prot red or black. That was not broken that was magic back then and before US.
+Vader Skywalker I totally loved it. You're right, that's just how Magic was back then. We worked around it and adapted, like reasonable people. I comboed off with ProsBloom against a newer player the other day, and all he did was whine because he wanted to attack with his little Delver of Secrets. Magic blows now. It's not "magic", it's just creature combat, which was always the most boring aspect of the game.
+Vader Skywalker Plenty of people loved it. I think people over exaggerate how much Urza's hurt the game. Blocks like Masques and Mirrodin did far, far more damage to Magic's popularity.

I don't see a ladder on "Delusions of Mediocrity" or "Illusions of Grandeur"?? ...and it makes me laugh how you pronounce Mishra.
