    Concordia is an anomaly, where many games rocket up the rankings for a few months and then crash down. Concordia has been on a slow burn for the lat 7 years. It's great to see an organic hit. Be in to win this game for the next 2 weeks here. gleam.io/2pdBy/concordia-giveaway

      One of the games that comes up most frequently in other designers must play
      lists and it's easy to see why. Its simple to learn and deceptively deep

  • @twentysides

    I agree with everything here. I find the intermediate scoring option in the rules, where you go through the motions of scoring, really helps some people to learn it, so even for people who find it unintuitive, they will get it sooner than waiting for the end to see what they will get points for.

    Love this game! The end-game scoring is actually one of my favorite parts of the game. You can never really tell who won which makes it more tense and engaging. I gave this to my brother for his birthday and wish I'd just bought it for myself instead!

  • @SolviKaaber
    @SolviKaaber 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    I don't know why people don't like the end-game scoring in this game? I don't feel like it's any slower than many other end-game scoring games like Terraforming Mars or Scythe and if the players go round and round scoring one god at a time it can be really tense and exciting to see who won in the end.

    • @denizkandemir9744
      @denizkandemir9744 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scythe is rather easy you can see it on the board, but that said that also is not really enjoyable

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think with both Scythe and definitely Terraforming Mars, it is much easier to parse who is in the lead at any given time. So end game scoring is less of a "what?" moment than in Concordia.

      @@3MBG I agree. Concordia is one of my favorite games and no matter if I win or lose: the scoring always feels like taking your cousin to prom.

    I thought the best thing about Concordia is complexity in the play time. This, for me, is a simpler Brass: Birmingham in half the play time, and I love that I have that option when I don't have the time or available brain-juice for Birmingham.

  • @dave0754
    @dave0754 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Still my favourite game. Just get the app for scoring, and insist that players are trying to get the "favour of the gods", that a score of 100 is great and that you need to trade 10 coins at the end for a single point. While I agree that having a long term strategy is important, being nimble and a tactician is essential to win.

  • @jasoncronin9145
    @jasoncronin9145 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    My favorite thing about Concordia is you rated it "moderately complex" BGG has it around 3/5 and it certainly feels pretty crunchy. But you still taught like 90% of the rules in about two minutes. No single action is very complex but there's so much potential depth. Love it!

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      yeah, complexity is such a pig to talk about. Like Chess, its not complex rules wise, but it is a complex game. Same with concordia, the core rules are pretty basic, but it has depth

    • @jasoncronin9145
      @jasoncronin9145 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@3MBG yeah I like that comparison. To me Concordias deepest aspect is efficiency. Managing to get exactly the resources you need in two prefects and a Mercator, then using one architect to build four houses, with exactly enough resources left to get the full two cards off the senator... Man I wanna play Concordia now...

    Finally got this game a couple months ago after wanting it for over a year.
    I love it! The rulebook and the cheat sheets (which are probably the best I have ever seen) and the fact that most of what you need to know is explained on the cards make it a really easy to explain game.
    Love the endgame scoring as most matches feel really close until the very end.
    One of the few games worth a 10/10 for me.

  • @thomashughes7336

    Absolutely brilliant game, such a short rule book for a game with complexity. My housemates picked it up almost immediately. The scoring seems a bit random at first, but I like how it encourages any strategy, virtually anything you do gets points! The expansion Concordia salsa is worth it as well, the addition of a wild resource (salt) makes the game better without adding too much complexity. Great video as always

  • @melski9205
    @melski9205 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The expansions got some great elements too (Salt). What I like about this game is its length, its not out of control like Power Grid. Though I do like the bidding phase a lot in Power Grid. I also like that I don't have to hide bits of the map depending on the player counts. One of the best games I own. Whats surprised me is they haven't really expanded the game like I thought they would with special player houses/stories or custom decks. Still, I love the simplicity of the games rules and that would wreck it.

  • @DannyStuart

    He did it! Yaaaay peer pressure!
    I totally get where you're coming from with the scoring. It definitely takes around 2-3 games for people to start planning their moves proactively around the scoring mechanics. I do really enjoy the scoring when you're there, though. It takes a little while, but it's fun to see how people planned their games out and how well those plans paid off. Not the most exciting scoring phase, but it is really rewarding in its sensible, Eurogame sort of way.

    Why people think this is a deck building game? It is not 🤦🤦

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because you have an action deck made of cards that you can make decisions about adding to? There by "building" an action deck.
      It's not a conventional deck builder in terms of dominions template, but it certainly has deck building elements in it. It's also listed on BGG as a deck builder.

    • @mabos555
      @mabos555 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You build your hand of actions then not a real deck so it's a hand management gane

      @@3MBG in my opinion the music is better matched to you and your style of delivery. It is part of your signature. Unless it is 1 of the few games l am familiar With, the music won't add to your videos atmosphere as it will go over my head. Your unique presentation style does not go over my head. I am familiar with that. Your brisk style is the dominating factor in your vids, not the ushally exellent game's art work or rule decription. The content does not dominate, you do. Music that matches you SEEMS more appropriate. This is not a complaint and I am a little surprised I feel this way. It's your show and the sounds need to match the showman. Dan
