I was in Plainview, Texas when "American Graffiti" hit the movie theaters. I was just out of the Air Force and Vietnam, going to school on the G I Bill to be a Court Reporter. I got my driver's license in 1963 and was already a "car guy" before that. Grew up in East Texas street racing and going to the drag races at nearby race tracks. Man, it was a great time growing up in the early '60s. Hot cars were a real deal, especially "Hot Rods" like Milner;s coupe and Falfa's 55 Chevy Gasser. And, don't forget the music. The "Oldies" still rock today, just like the cars! Grew up listening to "The Wolfman," too. I lived it and loved it and "American Graffiti" showed the world what it was like to those that missed those wonderful days. "Where were you in'62?"

The movie came out when i was fifteen and it changed my life forever i fail in love with hot rodding and still have three hot rods today. i was kicked out of school at fifteen and was heading to a bad life but after seeing the movie i went to work to buy a car and knew nothing about cars but became a mechanic and worked as one for forty-two years. thanks, your work does change people lives. when i left the movie house i was so pumped i had never felt so good.

I was born in 1972.... In my teens I fell in love with everything hot rods and drag racing. I remember seeing American Graffiti in my early teens and John Milner and his yellow 1932 five window coupe became my heroes... I spent my teenage years and some of my young adult years trying to be as fast and as cool as John Milner. I'm 50 years old now and the movie STILL makes me want to cruise, and drag race... A timeless movie that I will always love.

American Graffiti is one of my all time favourite films and I saw it in a theatre in Toronto when it came out. The sense of nostalgia that comes over me watching this is always so powerful, it is a time that is lost never to return. 1962 was the last year of innocence before the Kennedy assassinations and all that followed. Sometimes I wish that night cruising around would never end.

Hands down my favourite movie. Hard to believe that when we saw it the year it was released, it was depicting the world as it was only about ten years earlier, how much the world had changed in those 10 years. Think about it, it would be like seeing a movie now about what life was like way back in 2012, I don’t think I would hardly notice, other than Covid.

Still my all time favorite movie. I was 17 in 1973 when it came out and have watched it over 100 times since. It's the reason why I have my 3 window '34 coupe (I know Milner's was a 5 window Deuce) highboy but I have a 392 Hemi in mine.
Whenever I feel nostalgic about my youth I watch it and reminisce about cruisin' and the great times we had.

I was living in a small town called Exton Pa. when this movie came out. I had a '55 Bel Air with a worked 337 cu in. My buddy and I picked up some cold beer and went to the local drive-in . I had so many guys and girls coming over to check out the car and to ask me to start it for them it was un real. I loved that car and in retrospect wish I never sold it. Really good memories.

Not to even mention "The Godfather", because of my construction background, I became a instant fan of Mr. Coppola the first time I visited his first winery at Rutherford in the Napa Valley. Then called "Neibaum Coppola" to honor the founder, it was, and still is, absolutely amazing what he did to the original Chateau/winery. Built in the same period as the Culinary Institute (then "Christian Bros") his repairs, modifications, and updates, honor and preserve its stature and history. Such a glorious place to visit and soak in its history. He's done so much more to it since then. I feel he's the modern day "Walt Disney" in his visionary perception of how things should be done and look. Always the "no shortcut" absolute best possible job method EVERY time.
Met him more than once at the site and he's remarkably approachable. 👍👍👍

American Graffiti is a must watch for every American; especially a car guy. I remember exactly where I was when I saw the film - its one of those moments; The green mile is another, forest gump, etc.. Thanks for making it happen; this makes me proud to be an American more so than the government these days.

I was born in 1986 and from the time I was old enough to stand on a milk crate and see into an engine bay I've been addicted to the sound of an angry V8 screaming at the world in violent defiance. I first saw American Graffiti at 12 and it shook my world. These stories of a time past told by family, when predatory muscle cars prowled the streets in search of a victim were suddenly brought to life in color! It has since that fateful day stuck with me and fueled my passion, to recreate those childhood memories of choppy roars, spent race fuel, hot tacky rubber and high anticipation of the next few moments in time when the bulbs go green and time stops.....then it's done as quickly as it began. This movie is and will forever be in my opinion the best on screen depiction of the age of steel animals. Thank you Mr. Lucas for giving the world this gem and thank you Mr. Coppola for refusing to let the film fail. You both have changed car culture in so many ways and all for it's betterment.

So many films have a hero who vanquishes his rival, something like Milner thrashes Falfa then punches him in the face, the typical plot the studio wanted. This is a night out in early 60s America. And the actors, Lucas picked all unknown actors who all went on to have great careers he knew talent when he saw it, I just love this film.

My brother and I watched it 4 time's the first day it came. In San Jose at Stevens Creek movie theater. It was freaking badass. The day before we went to see the movie, the guy down the street from us had a 55 Belair for sell for $750.00, it was one of the fastest car's in town
The next day after we watched the movie that 55 went up to $2.000.

I wish the younger generation could’ve experienced what is was like to live in the era of American Graffiti, Hollywood Knights and Dazed and Confused. Generation X was the last to live it. By the ‘90s it was dead. The ‘50s and the ‘80s were very similar decades. The ‘80s mimicked the ‘50s I think. My channel is a time warp to those days #MuscleCarTimeMachine

It was a true story for me. I will never forget those warm summer nights down for the service one by one till i was alone with my high school group talking endlessly about vietnam. Then they all left while i stayed and dealt with my loneliness.I dont see how they found the balls to sign up but they had to in a sense because so they took a bus ride out of town which changed their lives considering they had no scholarships or jobs. Their parents couldnt afford anything. Joining up and serving was a must. The only way out of the misery was the service and so no one stayed. They wouldnt take me. I cried from loneliness. I would drive the streets and see no one i knew.
