The reason Ned was going to finally tell Jon after he took his Nights Watch vows was that he would have forsworn his inheritance. The only Targ that was safe from Robert’s wrath was Maester Aemon.
That’s not true. Aemon couldn’t be touched because he was the only maester who would willingly go to the wall and was ancient. Multiple times throughout it it seems that people believe you can be dismissed from the watch. Robb thought he could do it by trading people for him and would be the person to know best as he grew up in the north which was the closest to the watch and would have been taught about them, and stannis also thought he could do it. Jon also was not swearing the oath as a Targaryen but as Jon snow meaning he never really swore to the nights watch and there records wouldn’t have him under his real name. From what we here Sam say the oath we here them take may not be the actual one either as I believe when Sam is questioned on it somewhere he never mentioned anything of renouncing claims or that it was a permanent oath(remember the wall was made by the starks and they wouldn’t have condemned people to no children etc after just beating the night king. I believe a Stark has also pushed his claim from the wall before.
He probably also knew that he would be forgiven for breaking his vows if he were actually the true king. A king can pardon someone from the Night's Watch, and Rob Stark actually pardons Jon so he could be king after him if he died. Cat didn't want him to do it, but he did it anyway because he knew Bran was crippled and Rickon so much younger, it was the logical choice. Despite him being a bastard.
@@godoflightning5030I agree aemon being old and being the only maester there played a part for sure. But I do believe that those were the intentions of Ned in the show. As a man of the nights watch you’re staking your vows on your being not your name. You think everybody coming to the wall even knows their real name? They’re all bastards, rapists and criminals. Jon would be executed snow or Targaryen, because he took his vows as a man of the watch. It may have not worked with Rob and he may have gotten Jon killed anyways. sorry if someone else already said this, but jojen and meera’s dad, howland reed, definitely knew of jon because he was the only other survivor of the fight at the tower of joy. he was a bannerman of house stark and, while at the tourney at harrenhal (where rhaegar rode past his wife and gave lyanna the winter roses), lyanna saved him from getting beaten up by some squires (he was very small). later at the tourney a mystery knight who came to be known as the knight of the laughing tree because his mismatched armor featured a shield with a laughing weirwood tree, defeated the knights whom the aforementioned squires served and demanded that those knights chastise the squires. the knight of the laughing tree then disappeared without ever revealing their identity. the mad king sent rhaegar to find and unmask him, but all they ever found was his shield hanging in a tree. after that one of the more plausible theories that i wish had been explored in the show was that lyanna was the knight of the laughing tree. all of the starks were at that tourney and howland reed became friends with ned and both his older (brandon) and younger (benjen) brothers as well as lyanna. howland’s loyalty was the reason he was chosen to accompany ned to the tower of joy to rescue lyanna, and also why it makes sense that he would have kept lyanna’s and ned’s secret, protecting jon. in addition to all this, it is believed that benjen knew of jon’s parentage as well. ned planned for jon to join the night’s watch not only because he was a “bastard” (he wasn’t really), but because he knew that once jon took his vows he would lose both his ability to press his claim for the throne as well as his vulnerability should king robert find out about him. benjen joined the watch and became first ranger long before jon arrived there. his relation to jon as well as his position in the night’s watch support the idea that he knew the secret of jon, as does his line (i don’t remember if this line is in the books but it’s season 1 so it probably is) telling jon that he might care about what he was giving up by joining the watch if he really knew what it was. also, both he and ned promised to talk to jon after jon had taken his vows.

All of these scenes weren't meant to be AH HA moments, it's all of them together that's the OHHHHH moment. They were carefully planted breadcrumbs. Also, I think Ned didn't tell Cat because he needed her hatred of Jon to further protect him - to further sell the lie. His honor is what he is known for, so him breaking an oath is almost unbelievable. If Cat had known Jon's identity, she would have been softened towards him, and people would question why and might dig as to if the story was true at all, etc. Jon's birth lined up perfectly with Lyanna's death, and Ned could not risk anyone making that connection, even if it meant allowing his wife to believe the worst about him.

Non spoiler common fan theory- Peter Baelish/Littlefinger was the one to tell Brandon Stark (Ned's brother) that he saw Rhaegar kidnap Lyanna. It was a lie- one to get revenge on Brandon for nearly crippling him. They likely met by accident at an inn after she ran away, and having met before at a tourney, they travelled together for her safety. Chaos is a ladder
Y’all’s reactions on the Targaryen confirmation were the best. Honestly my favorite reaction from y’all 😅 And whoever told you to watch this, props because it definitely helps piece everything together.
There is theory that it was Littlefinger that started the kidnapping rumor because he wanted to take revenge on Brendan Stark who almost killed him when they duelled for Caitlyn
A couple of things from a book reader perspective…. Firstly, when Ned’s brother Brandon ‘got word’ that his sister had been taken by Rhaegar, which led them to go to Kings Landing, which didn’t end well…. Who do you think sent that word to him? Secondly, regarding Ned telling his wife the truth, remember that Ned married Cat in his brother’s place, after he died… he and Cat were basically strangers when they wed. They consummated the marriage and Ned left for war with Robert. Ned came home to a new baby a new wife, a super secret, among some other stuff I’ll leave for if you decide to read it. It’s quite complex though. Ned was definitely a real one! ❤
And who told him? Dont be silly to say that at was Littlefinger. This fact was a common knowlege as soon as Rhaegar snatched Lianna during the Great Harrenhal Tourney and there was half kingdom around. Moreover Littlefinger and Brandon were in the diffferent places at that moment. Lord Hoster already sent Petyr back to the Vale and Brandon remained in Riverrun.
None of these moment by itself gave it away, but all of them together were the biggest clue. I remember watching the show for the first time and finding some statements hella weird, like Ser Barristan which was respected by Ned himself, calling Rhaegar 'the best man he ever knew' when all we knew about him was pretty terrible. But as someone who study filmmaking a bit the biggest clue for me, was the scene where maester Amon talks about Dany being the last living Targaryen and in comes Jon. The pacing, the way it was framed I remember thinking it was weird, like the scene was suppose to be important but it appear trivial. So, as soon as we learn that Ned isn't his father and that Lyanna is the mother, the father becomes pretty obvious. Most people that have read the books have suspected it for a while, many bc when Jon is physically described it is said that out of all the Stark children he looked most like Arya. And Arya is the only character that as been compared physically to Lyanna. Basically tellingus that Jon looks a lot like Lyanna.
@TomBavey John first touched Drogon in Season 7 Episode 5 (Eastwatch). His true identity isn't confirmed until the season finale, Season 7 Episode 7 (The Dragon and The wolf). Last I checked, 5 comes before 7. So, please.... explain how I'm wrong.
@@teddyjr.424 please, please, please explain to me what you thought the 6x10 reveal was? What was that 6x10 scene to you lol. @@the.decadent.gentlemani dont recall jon eloping with someones betrothed (while being the father of two and married) and causing a bloodbath across the continent but maybe thats more just not being very strategic
One thing to consider when it comes to Catelyn is that, if Ned told her the truth, she might have actually treated him fairly, which would’ve caused confusion among the realm, the fact she hated Jon helped make the secret Ned was holding onto look real
Absolutely not. It had almost nothing to do with that, and all to do with the fact Robert wanted to assassinate a child. If Dany was say 5-10 years older, had already progressed to her position in Meereen, then Jons relation to her would have been factored in.
@@eNigmaChaddius Yeah, Ned is just a bad leader. He isn't willing to do what is necessary. He was willing to allow the future, that he wouldn't have to live in, to be destined to an inevitable war when the Targaryen survivors decided to war again. If you are going to fight, you finish it thoroughly. You don't half backside it. Leaving Dany alive led to King's Landing being burned to cinders. A million killed because Ned is a bad leader unwilling to do what leaders must.
I’m pretty sure Master Aemon knew. He was friends with the original 3 eye raven, they were at the wall together for years. And when he became the 3 eyed raven he began continued to talk & send visions to master aemon. That’s how he knew everything even though he was blind.
I think the only tell I saw was when Ned was talking to Robert and Robert said “Must’ve been a rare wench to make Lord Nedard Stark forget is honor” whilst Ned exhales in annoyance. You could kinda tell it was one of those “You don’t know sh*t” exhales lol
Ned is one of the most honorable men, but he's only ever sacrificed that honor for family and children. It's his code. Ned was and had always been against harming children. That and love for his family were his biggest weakness (and the things that got him killed). It's why he hated the Lannisters (it was Tywin's men who butchered Rhaegar's children when they sacked King's Landing), why he was against assassinating Daenerys, why he told Cersei he knew the truth about her children and told her to flea with them before he told Robert, why he 'confessed' to being a traitor (to save his daughters) and why he protected Jon (a Targayren) knowing Robert would likely have him executed.
Ned Stark is the truest man in the entire setting. He forsook his perfect honour to protect the son of his daughter, besmirching his name forever, but saving the life of the one true king of Westeros.
1. Catlyn begged Ned to make Jon an official Stark. He refused to and never told her why. So she saw Jon as a bastard. And bastards are known to be treacherous. She didn't hate Jon out of jealousy. She hated him out of fear that he'd kill Rob and try to take Winterfell...like Ramsy. Sansa never really trusted Jon either. That's why she always calls him her HALF brother. Where Arya calls him, her brother. 2. The REVEAL LINE about Jon's parentage is in season 1. When Jon tells Uncle Benjin that he wants to join the watch and sacrifice all his claims, women and fatherhood. And Benjin says "You would not want that, if you really knew what it meant." Benjin, knew who Jon's real father was. He knew Ned was protecting his claim to the 7 Kingdoms. That's also why Benjin tries to stop Jon from duties that could get him killed. Catlin, has a pov story. And in her story she tried to love Jon. But Ned's silence and secrecy drove her a little crazy. She was not wrong or bad. Any woman would have felt that way. She wanted Jon gone from Winterfell, once Ned left because she was afraid of him. Had he conspired against the a Starks, he could have pulled a Theon.
Ned was not protecting Jon's claim. Jon has no claim. Robert took the throne. Ned was never going to tell Jon. What do you think he was going to tell Jon and then help Jon overthrow Robert or his heirs? Nah. Ned did it to keep his nephew alive, not to protect him so he could be king in the future. Targaryens deserved to have their rule ended. And Ned agreed with that.
@kennyhudson9201 I never said Ned was protecting Jon's claim. Bejin knew what Ned was protecting, by way of protecting Jon. Whichbis his life and ultimately his legitimate claim. Ned could have just as easily, killed the boy and created peace for everyone. And Ned was absolutely going to tell Jon who his mother was and would have told him the truth and allowed him to make his own choice. He turned his back on Robert, when Robert resumed his effort to find the Targaryen children and kill them. That was when the split happened and I absolutely think Ned would have died to protect Jon, no matter what Jon decided. Ned's army and territory was the biggest in the 7 Kingdoms. And Robert didn't want that smoke. That's why he kept Ned by his side. But, Ned got injured. And Cersei made her move, before Ned could. I do think Ned threatened Cersei because he was ready for WHATEVER. Take Cersei, her children and Tywin out. Robert loses the war. Ned knew the secret would eventually come out and if it did. He'd raise his banners and protect his family.
@kennyhudson9201 deserve...lol. nobody deserves anything. People take what they can, when they can. Robert didn't deserve the crown. He took it because he was jealous and butthurt. He hated being King. Nobody deserves to be Royalty. And only the most narcissistic and corrupt seek it.
I also want to point out that he probably didn't tell Catelyn Stark about Jon cause Catelyn was suppose to marry Ned's brother and Ned only just met Catelyn after his brother was killed. He married her and left right after to war. So, he didn't even know Catelyn or if she was trustworthy when he came back with Jon after the war.
Its funny, when I saw 7x7, I LOVED the reaction of course. But yall were foggy on this. I was thinking, we all want them to see RLJ, will they do it quick. BAM. Love you guys.
When I saw the tee I felt so special and I know there may have been others but I was happy that you read one of my comments. I'll say again that of all the characters in the show Ned was my favorite, notice how in almost every episode he is mentioned and loved except for Jamie. I think he was always jealous of the greatness in Ned. What a honorable dude he was.
Little fingers scene with Sansa revealed more of like a kid’s perspective at that time. Oberyn was like he left my sister for another woman. And at the tournament, Littlefinger saw Rhaegar give Lyanna his tourney favor because they were falling in love and in Brann’s vision they had a secret wedding ceremony that was recorded by the maesters at the Citadel Gillie and Sam found it. I love Game of Thrones!
Ned let everyone in the seven kingdoms including Jamie talk mess about him and look down on him as a hypocrite, when he was the only honorable dude out there.
He’s not being possessive, he’s being a big brother, and respectfully as he knows how he’s letting Robert know she didn’t belong to him. Plus her son is there..
The creators of the show pitched their idea for it to George Martin the author during a long lunch (George had been rejecting all other adaptations so far). At the end of it he asked one question: "Who is Jon Snows mother?“ They gave an answer, the right answer and here we are.
The flashback with Bran in the tower seeing Ned & Lyanna, and then that moment in the citadel when Gilly is practicing reading & telling Sam what she's reading about the number of bowel movements.....she mentions that Rhagar had a marriage secretly annulled & a secret ceremony to another. Those 2 moments with the rest in the video you watched are what clicked for me.
Aemon - "A Targaryen alone in the world is a terrible thing." Then it cuts to Jon walking into the room because that applies to him even though he's talking about Dany.
Btw when Ned went to the Tower of Joy to find his sister, Howland Reed was there with him, helping fight the Targaryen kings guard outside of the tower. Howland Reed’s the father of Jojen And Meera, the 2 siblings that helped Bran travel to find the 3-eyed raven
The biggest reveal - and one that most people missed at the time - was when Aemon Targaryen said _"A Targaryen alone in the world is a terrible thing"_ and then cut quickly to the very next shot of Jon Snow just standing there.
Honestly after finishing the series, I completely forgot how 10 goes down Ned was about on everything through season 1, one of the most solid guys in the whole show and couldn’t be swayed.
Catelyn’s rage towards Jon only made Ned’s lie seem that more real. That’s why he didn’t tell her. It helped solidify the narrative that he cheated and Jon was his bastard.
You should have known. Everyone knew. And not from the books. Just from the series. But we had more time to think about it or to catch things on rewatches.
Ser Barriston was regarded as honourable as Ned Stark if not more than him. When the battle of the Trident happened and Robert killed Rhaegar, he was injured but saw that Ser Barriston was as well so he refused treatment and said for Barriston to be treated first. Even though they were on opposite sides of the fight. It was always the case that when he spoke, people listened due to how respected he was. He knew Rhaegar well. The books are worth a read, it’s just a shame it’s looking like we’re never going to get a finish to them as George is taking his sweet ass time.
True. Gilly and Brienne are the only two women that would keep someone else's secret. Unless it was at the detriment of a Stark. In that case, I think they would tell because they are loyal to Stark, for obvious reasons.
In a scene from season 1 when Jon and Sam are cleaning tables at Castle Black, there is a post behind them that has R+L=J carved into it. There’s also some theory out there that uncle Benjen was told about Jon and possibly went to the wall to make sure he kept it safe
Something the show failed to mention is that Aemon told Jon that he and Raehygar (sure I misspelled it) wrote to each other all the time so it is believed he knew Jon wasn’t a bastard but his nephew
Also to add to the Gilly comment yall made, she also had to lie about being a wildling. So she knows to be careful cause she saw what happened when she slipped up at dinner with Sam’s family.
I think the biggest reveals were the Little Finger saying Rhaegar road past Elia his wife & laid “a crown of ‘winter roses’ on Lyanna’s lap. A Crown…he wanted her to be his crowned Princess, and ‘winter’ roses, because Lyanna is from the north & their words are “winter is coming”. Then the strange look Little Finger gave Sansa. & when Oberyn said that Rhaegar left his sister for another woman. I think Girl Nettles said after the last video, how Rhaegar left his best swordsman, Ser Arthur Dane to “protect what was in the tower”. His wife & unborn child. Took me soooo many watches & this video to make me do a 🤦🏼♀️ to myself
I always knew Ned didn't cheat because I believed in him, but I never did figure out who Jon's parents were on my own. It was spoiled for me before it was revealed in the show.

They likely met by accident at an inn after she ran away, and having met before at a tourney, they travelled together for her safety.
Chaos is a ladder
10:43 AYO THAT EDIT WAS FOULLL 😭😭😭
I was hungry 😂

I ran to the comments to say the same thing! Y’all dead wrong for that! That’s bout as bad as the Cersei shirt 🤣
“Just ..unholy mess” took me out 😂😂😂 love yall 🖤
@ I’m not arguing that point at all. But who sent word? I have my ideas but nothing is confirmed that I’m aware of.
That sandwich cut was diabolical 💀
10:44 - Adison you are foul for that, but that's why we're here! The best reaction channel. Hands down!
😂😭🤣 I had to pay y’all back for that shirt. I couldn’t just let y’all do me like that

In my opinion, Drogon allowing John to touch him was a dead giveaway
That’s because this was shown after it was revealed though?
@TomBavey Nope. John's true identity was revealed AFTER his encounter with Drogon
@@teddyjr.424 you’re wrong
@TomBavey John first touched Drogon in Season 7 Episode 5 (Eastwatch). His true identity isn't confirmed until the season finale, Season 7 Episode 7 (The Dragon and The wolf).
Last I checked, 5 comes before 7. So, please.... explain how I'm wrong.
@@teddyjr.424 please, please, please explain to me what you thought the 6x10 reveal was?
What was that 6x10 scene to you lol. The whole point of it is that Ned brought Jon snow back under the false claim that he was Ned’s bastard son, when we can clearly see that he is lyannas (and then who else would the father be lmao)
So after watching Ned sprint into a building and take the baby off of his pregnant sister who we know to have been with rhaegar, please tell me what you saw this scene as?
Something I noticed is that every time Ser Barristan and Jorah talked about Rhegar’s character, they were describing Jon as well.
i dont recall jon being into music or singing or poetry

@@the.decadent.gentlemani dont recall jon eloping with someones betrothed (while being the father of two and married) and causing a bloodbath across the continent but maybe thats more just not being very strategic
One thing to consider when it comes to Catelyn is that, if Ned told her the truth, she might have actually treated him fairly, which would’ve caused confusion among the realm, the fact she hated Jon helped make the secret Ned was holding onto look real
Ned didn't wanna be a part of killing Dany cos she's literally the only family Jon had left. Granted Aemon Targaryen was alive at that time
Absolutely not.
Great video to make after the last episode.. good work... And Ned is top 10 for sure
Gilly couldn't even not spills the beans to Sams Dad about her being a Wildling.
The tower scene Bran saw clenched R+L=J for me.
only woman on the show that valued her honor as much as Ned is Brienne. She's the only one I could see keeping that secret.
Hodor could keep the secret pretty well too
Nah Jon is the one.
GRRMartin might have not finished the books, but he wrote a masterpiece. I recommend reading all of them they are amazing
I’m pretty sure Master Aemon knew. He was friends with the original 3 eye raven, they were at the wall together for years. And when he became the 3 eyed raven he began continued to talk & send visions to master aemon. That’s how he knew everything even though he was blind.
In S1E4, Jon and Sam are cleaning tables. On one of the beams is a carving "R+L".
that sandwich transition was diabolical
Yes. Ned is the 🐐.
I think the only tell I saw was when Ned was talking to Robert and Robert said “Must’ve been a rare wench to make Lord Nedard Stark forget is honor” whilst Ned exhales in annoyance. You could kinda tell it was one of those “You don’t know sh*t” exhales lol
The sandwich cut made my jaw drop lmaoooo
THERE'S THE SHIRT! 😂❤😂
🤦🏾♂️ see I shouldn’t even be in THIS MESS!!!

@@edn 😂😂😂
We love ya!
That thumbnail.😂
Ned Stark is the truest man in the entire setting. He forsook his perfect honour to protect the son of his daughter, besmirching his name forever, but saving the life of the one true king of Westeros.
When Stannis said that was not Ned's way that got me thinking there might be another scenario we don't know about.
I thought the baby scene in Season 6 episode 10 revealed it. Go back and watch it, she mouths his name Aegon Targaryen.
Which is one of the dumbest choices the showrunners made lol.
I love that edit with the sandwiche. It was brilliant!
10:41 Diabolical transition 😂😂
Sam and Gilly reading the scrolls about a wedding 👀
I always thought Ned should have told Cat about Jon's birth after Sansa was born.
Ooo, That transition at 10:43 was smooth👏🏾
I was just about to recommend this video. Yall got it!
"You a seven God capper" - Brandon (Drake, actually Kendrick) LOLOL
That sandwich cut...pro move...
Ned really is the best character in terms of morality
No not Ned, I was meaning King Robert was being possessive.
-Adison
The creators of the show pitched their idea for it to George Martin the author during a long lunch (George had been rejecting all other adaptations so far). At the end of it he asked one question: "Who is Jon Snows mother?“ They gave an answer, the right answer and here we are.
You're not right for that transition 😂
The flashback with Bran in the tower seeing Ned & Lyanna, and then that moment in the citadel when Gilly is practicing reading & telling Sam what she's reading about the number of bowel movements.....she mentions that Rhagar had a marriage secretly annulled & a secret ceremony to another. Those 2 moments with the rest in the video you watched are what clicked for me.
Aemon - "A Targaryen alone in the world is a terrible thing." Then it cuts to Jon walking into the room because that applies to him even though he's talking about Dany.
Been waiting for this !
That sandwich edit 😂
Btw when Ned went to the Tower of Joy to find his sister, Howland Reed was there with him, helping fight the Targaryen kings guard outside of the tower. Howland Reed’s the father of Jojen And Meera, the 2 siblings that helped Bran travel to find the 3-eyed raven
The first book keeps repeating the scene in the tower with lyanna on a bloody bed going promise me.
Jaime would keep his Prince's secret, he kept Ayres' secrets for decades and only ever told Brienne.
LOL the sandwich edit 😂😂 Learning from the GoT producers I see
ned to sandwich cut is wild 😂
The biggest reveal - and one that most people missed at the time - was when Aemon Targaryen said _"A Targaryen alone in the world is a terrible thing"_ and then cut quickly to the very next shot of Jon Snow just standing there.
Honestly after finishing the series, I completely forgot how 10 goes down Ned was about on everything through season 1, one of the most solid guys in the whole show and couldn’t be swayed.
Ned chose the ones he loved again by saving his Daughters, giving up his honor with the Treason lie & died to save Arya & Sansa. He was a Real One🐺
Sweet summer children
I think they've long surpassed that point now.
Thank you. But dag nab it with the sandwich! 😅
If I were King Stannis, I would think my wife, Queen Selyse, would have been able to keep any secret due to her fanaticism and loyalty.
The biggest reveal to me was Ned writing King Roberts final words but changing them "the rightful heir come of age"
That one got me cuz I thought he was talking about Gendry
Catelyn’s rage towards Jon only made Ned’s lie seem that more real. That’s why he didn’t tell her. It helped solidify the narrative that he cheated and Jon was his bastard.
You should have known. Everyone knew. And not from the books. Just from the series. But we had more time to think about it or to catch things on rewatches.
Love calls reactions I hope y’all had a good 2024 God bless ❤
Omg the sandwich cut! 💀💀💀
He was up there about to be beheaded, saying Joffrey was king when he knew Jon was the rightful king . To save those girls and Jon too.
Adison, take that off sir😂
Trust me…I’m still itching…🤦🏾♂️
-Adison
This video lowkey feels like if Jon was Harry Potter or something. 😂
I swear Adison looks like he could be Notre dames Marcus freeman son
Don't even know how Brandon is sitting next to you with that shirt on😂😂
I woulda let it slide, but I appreciate the honesty.
10:41 Absolutely FOUL!
11:30 i would say The Sea Snake and The queen who never was.
Yes!
At one point in season one there were 4 Targaryens in the show

Dany
Maester Aemond
& Jon (Aegon)
