- BloodRayne the 2005 Uwe Boll vampire movie is such a massive failure on every possible level, that just watching it can hurt puppies. The plot is incoherent, the action scenes are laughable, and none of the actors want to be there. The only thing more confusing than the movie, is how it was able to spawn 2 sequels. Please, do not watch the movie BloodRayne. Think of the puppies.

I worked on an Uwe Boll movie . Funny enough , Billy Zane *and Kristanna Loken was on that one as well . My biggest recollection is constantly running out of fake blood . I would finish my squeeze bottle and before I could refill it , he would bellow out from his little director chair "more blood , we need more blood" . Dressed and prepped a particularly violent scene that took hundreds of retakes , eventually an art director called it out and said "this scene will never make it past the regulatory boards , let's just shoot it and go home" He got sent home , we kept on shooting ,and the scene was dropped in the final cut . 😆

Laura Bailey is one of the best voice actresses. She voiced so many amazing female characters in video games. I am not surprised she hated this movie. It's trash for real. Laura's witty voice literally made Rayne. Here it's like a completely different person just with the same name.

Oh how right she was. I couldn't get through the 1st 20 minutes of it either. None of the aesthetics about it rung true to the actual games. I mean they got Rayne talking in a damn British accent, they got the set up looking like medieval Britain when Rayne was born in 1915. I mean hell, they at least had electricity and guns back then. And they got Kagan looking like George Washington.

Love Ben Kingsley's very deliberate non-performance. He stated in an interview that he signed up without having read the script or looked into the director's previous work. He made a "juvenile decision" (his words) to star as a Vampire overlord because he had always wanted to play a head villain in a Horror movie. But upon filming it became apparent to him he had made the biggest mistake of his career as Boll clearly had no idea how to direct actors or properly prep scenes. And as for the script? What script? It was being rewritten on a seemingly daily basis. Kingsley knew he couldn't pull out & lose a paycheque so he just did what was expected of him...READ HIS LINES...and he did so with zero emotion whatsoever! It was beautiful! 😅
Have there been any films that have turned out well when the script is being rewritten so often while filming is ongoing? I'm sure there is the very occasional one but more often than not it's a bad sign for a movie.

6:26 i love when that guy tackles a horse lol. he did not tackle the guy off the horse... he tackled the horse to take down the guy riding the horse lol. oh my god i am laughing so hard.
The cute little axe thing is actually one of the most accurate parts, it's still pretty wildly inaccurate because of how silly that particular double axe looks, but axes used in combat historically are actually quite small, their only purpose is to crack a skull open and as such are closer to picks in size and purpose. It's the same kind of thing with "war hammers", they aren't these huge unwieldy items, they are designed for one specific task, of breaking through a helmet (or armor in general) and opening a skull (or generally breaking bones), and the smaller the better when it comes to swinging at a person trying to kill you's head. But I digress, and also I swear I'm not a serial killer this was just something I picked up while researching real world history.
Hammers are huge, unwieldy two-handed weapons used to crush granite columns and armored knights, while axes are also huge, unwieldy two-handed weapons for cleaving both knight and horse in half. There are rare exceptions of a small'ish hand axe, but they're for throwing with enough force to shear heads off shoulders.

I watched this yesterday and i was continually amazed how literally every single scene in this movie is bad. Every single one. There's never once that moment where you think, hey, at least that was kind of cool. It hits the bottom of the suck barrel within the first ten seconds and never gets back out.
Uwe Boll ist the most consistent movie producer there is.

Vampires dying in water happens in a few series I know of. In the original Stoker novel dracula leaps from a boat to land as a giant black dog instead of just swimming, that mightve inspired it.
Asian vampire lore has vampires weak to the purity of running water, incapable of moving through or crossing over it. Doesn't melt their faces off or anything.
Fun Fact: The elderly Fortune teller was played by Charlie Chaplin's daughter.

Billy Zane is one of those guys who had more success being a caricature of themselves than being a serious actor. While he and Will Wheaton were forced into it, guys like Adam West were born for it.
Easily a top 10 Meatloaf, Ben Kingsley, and Michelle Rodriguez film involving vampires.

Writer Guinevere Turner alleged that director Uwe Boll called her and screamed at her when she was writing the first draft of the script, and demanded she hand it in. She gave him the first draft the following week to get notes... and was shocked to learn that Boll was immediately going into production with her first draft without any rewriters. Turner later learned after filming that Boll and the cast rewrote most of the script on-set, and that the finished film was nothing like her drafts.
Sounds about right. Boll is known to be an EXTREME misogynist, regularly referring to women as eye-candy or "a set of nice breasts." He literally has said in multiple "reviews" of other movies that they "shouldn't allow bimbos to write scripts." In addition, of course, he has bashed and ridiculed some of the greatest writers in history...he even called the LotR movies boring and that he could direct them much better XD
Madsen was actually completely wasted through the whole filming lol he didn't want to do the part so tried to get booted out by drinking the whole time and they still made him do it lol
Richard Burton, Richard Harris and Oliver Reed probably did their best work while either drunk or hungover, he was just carrying on the traditions of great actors
I believe his sister Virginia (Lead in Candyman) said Michael wanted her to play in this and she assumed he was joking (which he did to her often) until she realized he wasn't and basically told him it was better if he left it as a joke 😂

Sidenote: Look at what they made Michael Madsen wear. That hair piece. Look at the top of his head and the Kentucky waterfall in the back. Uwe saw that and accepted it. That alone is enough to show you he should not be in charge of anything.😅😂

Here's an interesting story. I worked as a projectionist at a movie theater. One night I was just about to start the last movie on my list as soon as it started I went downstairs to talk to the managers. As I was conversing with the manager a customer came up to us as asked "is the movie going to start?" I realized I still had one movie left on my list and it was 30 mins late to start. and the movie I forgot to start was BloodRayne.
Luckily, you disappointed no one because the theater was empty.

The unusual thing about that scene is the actual sucking of the breasts by Matt Davis. Very unusual for legitimate actors to do that, even in sex scenes.
I remember when this was first coming out. The movie theater had a big standee for it. Then all of the sudden the standee was gone and the movie never came to any of the theaters in the area. I rented it months later and couldnt get through Michael Madsen giving the most 'phoned in' performance I had ever seen. Especially the part where he is trying to trick the prison guard by saying his friend is gone. Just terrible delivery.
Years later I saw they actually made a sequel. As well as 2 sequels for Boll's in the name of the king.

Uwe Boll must have a lot of green cash to put these talented stars to be in his crappy video game based movies. Michael Madsen? Meatloaf? This just gets even better.
And to be honest, those horse riding scenes are at least a bit better than that Turkish Rambo film.

It's been proposed many times that Uwe Boll Video Game Adaptations were Money Laundering Fronts. Made purely to launder money for European Crime Organizations...and nothing about Uwe Boll or the process he uses to get movies made do anything to dispell that Theory.

I always thought Uwe Boll was like the German version of Meat Loaf. Kudos to Bowe for being able to get so many talented actors to accept parts in his doo-doo movies.
I always viewed Uwe Boll as being the unwanted spawn demon child of Michael Bay and Roland Emmerich. Regardless of what you think about the latter two, at least they have somewhat of a shred of competency.
This movie killed my favorite game franchise. I've had a chip on my fvcking shoulder ever since. And the sad part is, Rayne's actress was PERFECT for the part. She looked just like her video game counterpart. What a WASTE.
edit: in the video game, rayne works for the brimstone society, the setting is 1930s louisiana/wwii era, respectively. she's not COMPLETELY immune to water, a dip stings but if she stays in it for TOO long, rayne dies. basically, she guns her way through nazis, mutated voodoo creatures, and zombies trying to get her revenge against the vampire who r*ped and killed her mother and entire maternal line. she travels to argentina where she has a final showdown with the man who she's been looking for, only to have revenge denied to her-hence bloodrayne 2. the game was SO GOOD and this GOOF somehow managed to ruin it. i'll never forgive him for killing an amazing franchise with his sh*tty movies.

Not being able to cross running water (which I believe is the folklore) is not the same as being killed by some water trickling down a wall, or slowly filling a room.

As a german I can only apologize for our horrible movie makers and actors. I don't know what happened but almost all german movies and actors went downhill after the 90`s. Prior to that they made some authentic movies but that was before Uwe Boll was setting the new standards XD

To be fair, vampires being weak to water is a rather old notion. More specifically, vampires dislike running water.
