    Have an hour in rFactor2. 55 minutes to set it up, 4 minute to load into a session, 15 seconds of track time and 45 seconds to exit and uninstall. It sucks

    Smurfs in iRacing should be banned. Race your main account, if you a a top level racer then you should be able to stay out of trouble (mostly). I have triples and VR and swap between the two. Both have their good and bad points. Open wheel cars in VR is the best experience.

    The slip you describe happens when you operate your pedals with your ankles. But technically speaking, you should be operating pedals with your legs, not your ankles. You are smoother, have more control and there is no slip if your pivot point is at your hip. That said, it's not always possible if you're not in the proper seating position (ie. desk mount and office chair.)

    Realism matters if you are using a racing sim to train for real racing. Most of us are not trying to do that. I play iRacing because it provides a great multiplayer experience, I haven't tried any other modern racing sim because no matter what other features they may offer, they don't have the same variety of cars to have good multiplayer racing.

    It is hard to setup motion in sinc and without overdoing it. Thats why most people are slower with them. Avrg driver will learn so much about weight transfere from good motion. Also I use VR and without perfect motion I get sick and bad motion will get you even more sick then no motion :D. And also I am as fast with VR as with triples :)

    10,000% agree with upgrading the rig vs LC pedals. The most improvement in my times, enjoyment, consistency always came from getting a more comfortable, rigid rig. Just being able to get in the same seating position, monitor distance, etc makes a huge difference imo. Having a weak rig or desk mounted had me scared to really race with my wheel. Proper rig made all the difference

    I think these are pretty hot takes but I gotta say, I agree with every one of them.
    Notably the socks, realism not being important (including motion rigs and VR vs triples) and F1 eSports not using cockpit cam.
    I use sim racing shoes on my rig and I've actually managed to shave off about 2mm of rubber from the bottom of the shoe because of the slipping you talked about in the video.
    Also 100% realism isn't that important, sim racing != real racing (as much as many of us would want it to be). All I want is pace in the sim, idk if it's realistic or immersive, I just want to qualify well and race fast.
    EA needs to get triple monitors working actually with the FOV and force esports to use cockpit, there is no reason why the biggest sim racing esports event/league/whatever it is has a bunch of drivers using a single monitor in T-cam. Also, give the drivers a decent set of pedals ffs, using one of the worst pedal sets that fanatec has to offer; no wonder Jarnos pedals broke like 3 times last season. Also also also, there is no reason why EA doesn't have options to clear penalties or turn off automatic penalties etc. for the massive amount of custom leagues that go on in that game. Not to mention the fact that the official esports races can be affected by the automatic penalty system giving someone an unfair penalty before the pits where they wont be able to remove it after the race (cause it gets served in the pits). The whole F1 game series is completely shambles

    i disagree with the thumbnail. I have the FGT lite, and its perfect for someone thats 6'7. I've tried the pedal stand with the chair cradle, and its not as comfortable. Until I get a more permanent place, The FGT lite is what I'm sticking with.

    I’m a console pleb so I haven’t had the opportunity to play on triples but VR> single solely for depth perception and being able to look ahead into a corner.
    Especially if you’re playing in cockpit cam, otherwise you have no access to both mirrors.

    I 1000% agree on the sock take. First thing I did with my CSL Elite V2s is take off the rubber covers that came pre-installed.
    Maybe it's just because I'm used to it but it, but it just feels like I have much more control, especially on the throttle.

    • @Django45
      @Django45 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have the same pedals and only have the rubber on the brake.
      I just installed the middle hardness elastomers and I use shoes for water sports. Just socks drop a lot of dead skin into the pedals and my foot hurts when I go for heel and toe with the side of my foot. I dont feel comfortable completely twisting my foot. I intentionally moved gas closer to brake for the same reason.
      And I swapped clutch and gas pedals, because the stiffer spring in clutch feels a lot better for gas. Changed the bump stop between them, so the travel is the same.
      I like the shoes and the rubber on brake, because i never feel like I might slip off when I push on the top of the brake pedal with the heel off the foot rest. I have big feet, also having the ball of the foot higher makes it easier to press harder with less actual force, so I can get more feel into it. I think :)

    Being mainly a VR sim racing player and using the GT Lite Pro by NLR, I do respect all your points but not really affected by them. I only play casually and nothing too serious. I aim for fun on all my games thus the VR really went up the fun level when it comes to driving games thus I am extremely happy with it and prefer it than flat screen gaming. As for the folding rig, I actually don't fold mine after buying lol. It was cheap and the best thing is the comfort level it has compared to the older GT lite version. It is bigger than what i expected it to be but it is still more compact than full rigs in the market. Since I play mainly on VR, the feel and positioning when using the rig does add to the fun immersive factor...

  • @NPC-Gamer
    @NPC-Gamer 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Definitely agree about the VR and regular socks.
    I have VR and it is great for immersion, not as much for consistency.
    I also find myself burning my tires off quicker in VR.
    I'm currently running a single monitor setup and that's all I will use in public lobbies on iracing.

    I find VR much easier to race at pace with. But it makes the entire process so much more physically straining. I swapped to a superultrawide over the summer and haven't swapped back yet. You just get so sweaty in that headset that you can't do more than a sprint or two really.
    Maybe in a few years, when the headsets are ultralight, very high res, that a PC can handle at 120fps without lifting a finger. Then they'll be back on my head for racing

  • @SLENDAMANN
    @SLENDAMANN 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    In my experience, VR is definitely not slower than racing on a single monitor - even an ultrawide. I'm slower on my monitor than I was when racing in VR, and that's after making the switch more than a year ago.
    However, the comfort level with using a screen is what makes the difference for me.

    Sim rig first - This is about as controversial take as 'ice cream tastes better than a hand full of rusty nails.' You can't really run a load cell on a carpet, so yeah.
    Pedals are not the problem - I recently helped a friend set up his first G920 basic setup. I was almost as fast with that as I am with my rig. It is a poor craftsman who blames his tools.
    Motion rigs are slow - I haven't compared, but this only makes sense. Moving is going to throw you off your precision. But I want a motion rig anyway for immersion and as training for real track driving.
    Esports cockpit only - Depends on the level of sport. When they were running e-sports instead of live diving for the pandemic, 100% agree. In 'normal' Esports, it is a game. Use whatever helps you the most. Esports FIFA and Madden have you play from a sky-cam view, not first person.
    rFactor2 - I have it but have never actually played it. So no opinion here.
    VR vs triples - VR has 2 major advantages.. immersion and awareness. I can look around in VR more than I can with my triples. Looking out my passenger window as I enter a turn means turning my head in a natural way to spot my targets, not pressing a button and having my view snap right. Even with triples you don't get the same level of view. Some games are better than other but you will never get a full 360 like in VR. But VR is less comfortable for long sessions and limited support. I run triples most of the time but love a good VR session. This topic is more subjective than objective. I feel you are way off base saying a single is better than VR. But you may not have had a good VR experience.
    Voice chat - see Esports above. It is still a game, it doesn't have to perfectly mimic real life in every way. It is almost like saying you should be required to pay for fuel with real cash for each race because you would need to in real life. Silly. If your point is it isn't 'needed'.. of course it isn't needed. You aren't coordinating with anyone on a team so there is no need to talk at all.
    Brake Bias - probably correct. But a placebo that helps you is still helping you.
    Gripping your pedals - There are people that argue this?! I had to put painters tape on my boots when I first got them because they were so grippy my foot would 'walk' up the pedal as I drove. grippy boots suck.
    Folding Sim rigs suck - better to have a folding than no rig. Folding rigs are also generally cheaper than set rigs. My friend races in one with no issues. It stays out most of the time but he is in a smallish apartment and it is nice to be able to fold it away for space when people come over. Once you test you may change your opinion. Folding will never be as good as set rigs though.
    Smurf Accounts - All Smurf accounts suck. Unfortunately it is unenforceable. Some people are just so insecure that they need to run in lower classes to feel good about themselves.
    Realism isn't important - No game will ever be 100% realistic. But it is nice to get close if using it for real-world training. That being said being more realistic does not make it more fun. These are games and fun should be the biggest factor. Play ACC, play GT7, play Need For Speed, play Mario Kart. Fun > realism.

    7:40 i think this will vary alot depending on your setup and also what you're doing in sim. generally for racing you dont want to use your ankles to move the pedal. but in drifting, you definatly want to use your ankle to fine adjust the throttle. for braking you definatly want to use your thig muscle and not your ankle. personally i use socks, so that my heel can slide on the pedal base alowing me to not use my ankle on the brakes. but i wish i had shoes that fit properly. because after a few hours i loose the feeling in my toes :)......disrespectfully

    • @HoriaM29
      @HoriaM29 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I was wondering about that. The socks would only affect ankle braking. Which, at least when racing... you shouldn't really be doing that in the first place, right??

    • @kawie

      @@HoriaM29 ideally shouldnt be using your ankles no. but with pedals like the g29 or other pedals with low resistance i dont think it's that big of a deal.

    I have the next level racing fgt lite and it's great. I partially fold it up every time I finish playing. It takes up 7 square feet folded with the wheel and pedals attached and 12 square feet when I use it. It's plenty sturdy, comfortable enough to play as long as I want, I can easily change the setup to model the seating position in whatever car I'm driving, and it was $150 instead of $300-$500 like most rigs. Also when I invite a lady over in hopes of losing my virginity I fold it entirely and stuff it in my closet (I have never done this).

  • @shawndixon4536
    @shawndixon4536 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I am using a T300RS with T3PA-Pro pedals, and a TH8A shifter and a TSS handbrake. I really like this setup, and it cost the same as a DD base, wheel and 2 pedal set would have cost alone. If I get the budget and room to expand, maybe a DS and load cell will be in the future.
    As for the VR vs triples, I have both. Triples are get for regular driving or racing where you don't turn your head much for corners, but drifting and rally racing, it's amazing. When I compare my Dirt Rally 2.0 experience, I am so much better with VR.
    I didn't have much room, so I have a GT Omega Classic folding wheel stand - that Connor fold any more! Lol. I added so many extra shifter shelf plates for the shifter, handbrake, mouse pad, and keyboard tray, it is currently permanently kept in place under my desk!
    And I use a pair of Nike runners with a gum sole like material when on my rig. Why? Because I don't drive a real car in socks or bare foot, so why would I drive my sim rig any other way. Now, my pedals are inverted, so I feel like my legs do more work than my feet/ankles, as a floor based pedal setup would.
    As for brakes, I am fine with no load cell. It's the "learn what you have and get good with it".

    I hate everyone gripping onto the argument that rF2 has better tire model. It makes driving and dancing on the limit very fun, but that doesn't change the fact that the overall experience from a player's perspective is tedious in various situations.
    After 3.5k hours on rFactor 2 I can say it one ups other sims in one certain aspect - league racing experience.
    The relatively high modability of the sim (which might also be the reason for rFactor being horrible to set up at first) allows for a great amount of custom cars and different track layouts made by the community. (I remember last year the league I was in immediately introduced the chicaneless S3 in Barcelona and redesigned Singapore, the year before we had redesigned Melbourne before the actual GP).
    Pair that with the fact that rF2 netcode is miles better than iRacing's and allows for close quarters racing without the frequent "netcode moments" (can't really compare other sims because I only played rF2, iRacing and F1 games which are a different kind of shitfest when it comes to online).
    Would I say rFactor 2 is a terrible product from the consumer's standpoint? Absolutely.
    However the years of league racing made it a worthwhile experience for me.

    I use gymnast shoes (Rucanor Bonn) as my racing shoes... it has a slightly sturdier underside than thick socks and the underside has some grip.. but it's mostly so that i don't hurt the side of my right foot when i heel-and-toe... it isn't overly grippy.. just the perfect amount of grip and slip when needed ;)

    If realism takes a backseat to user experience past a certain point. And AMS2 has passed that threshold, that should make AMS2 the best sim by leagues. Even with the janky menus.

  • @oldmate4575
    @oldmate4575 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    okay so respectfully, I think realism is important for simulators and not important so much now for more arcade or "simcade" titles. I do understand your point but I think if you're trying to be a simulator, you're trying to simulate real life. For some people who cannot afford track time or certain race cars, whilst younger in life and trying to be serious about a racing career, iRacing infact may be one of the best tools cost effective out there for some, And i think the more it can translate over to real life, the better it is not only for people trying to take racing seriously, but even for you're average guy who owns a rig. Why are we spending $1000's of dollars for all this sim equipment if realism isn't important you know? Also why are we paying $15 per car and track if they are not representing a license of something realistic. And when I say realism, I mean tyre models, braking, weight transfer, aero, setups, damage etc

    I really think the pedal one is wrong. I always drove with shoes. did recently a switch to others and they are really grippy, BUT I drove as good as always as soo as the heel started to sli as much as Im used to. So its a matter of technic. U can just slip ur heel instead of ur foot on the pedal and its equaly nice as with socks and same stuff. thats just my style and I think there is no downside, its just a different way of being used to throttling and adaption to hardware.

    alright, let me answer RESPECTFULLY to some things:
    a) F1 eSports shouldn't force cockpit cam, and no one else should, actually, and that is for a simple reason: it depends where your center of gravity is compared to your "virtual" center of gravity. In GT7, most of the time I drive from chase cam, and that allows me to see where the a*se of the car is, and allow me to let me find the correct slip angle. If I drive from cockpit cam, I would be more cautious, and I will underdrive the car. So, I politely disagree with that.
    b) Griping to the pedal is actually what I do, but only when it comes to the accelerator. With brakes, especially with Load-cell brakes, you want to work with your leg muscles, so the feet must be nailed to the pedal when braking.
    c) Foldable chair sucks, I agree with that, but my Playseat Challenge saved my life. Plus, you are showing the table with a chair with wheels, that wiggles around like crazy, I don't think that is the best option either. Anyways, the playseat challenge is ten times better than the NLR foldable chair. The seat is more comfortable, and it folds in a blink of an eye, while the NLR is just a pain.
    I agree with all of the rest tho, and it is a great video!

    Well people play what they enjoy the most, personally with rf2 i really like the handling and i am willing to waste my time setting up the wheel and trying to ignore bugs. I mean you can make an argument that every sim sucks, you can say that iracing sucks becaue it's too expensive and it's very inconsistent when it comes to handeling, you can go from one of the best handeling in any sim to one of the worst handeling, and after so many years it still dosn't have rain. And for me iracing is just not worh the price, but my point is that people play what they enjoy. If there is some hype around rf2, that means that the sim dose something well and that someone is enjoying it. Just because you don't enjoy playing rf2 , it dosn't mean that people who enjoy the game should not play it if they enjoy it. Just like it is with iracing, many people think that the sim is overpriced for what you get (including me) but that dosn't mean that everyone should stop paying for it if they enjoy it.

      @@daniel_gray10 well you're splitting hairs now. Race car drivers ARE wearing shoes, but sim racers don't really need actual racing shoes. Just like they don't need to be wearing a race suit, balaclava, helmet, and gloves. Lines have to be drawn somewhere between the real racing world and sim racing, but driving in your socks doesn't translate to the real world what so ever.

    I get the hate for folding rigs. While i dont fold mine up 100% it does take up 40% less space than a dedicated rig. It only takes me 10 seconds to switch from sim racing to video games and while the flex is noticable i much prefer its stability to a wheel stand. One day I will have a dedicated rig and all will be well.

    I think the Logitech pedals have a quality control issue
    I upgraded from Logitech which i always had issues with and got the regular fanatic pedals (not load cell) because my brake felt so garbage and it was really difficult to use to Logitech pedals
    My fanatic pedals while basically being the same tech as the Logitech ones are also way more confidence inspiring and predictable than my Logitech pedals I had
    I also went to a friend’s house who had a logitech set up and it felt 1000x better than my Logitech pedals even though it was the same gen and I also had mine since new.
    It leads me to think it’s more of a quality control issue because my pedals were never close to consistent but other Logitech ones I’ve tried have been.

    I don't really agree with the F1 game forcing cockpit ESPECIALLY if your using a single monitor. Single monitor cockpit cams feel like I'm driving with horse blinders on.
    With that being said I do agree rFactor 2 is mid I wish I would've put my money into iracing instead.

    I find vr is a gimmick tbh, i always show my mates it and its fun for the first few laps but always want to switch back, i think its good if you have limited space and a 20 inch monitor but with the setup time, the added weight on ur face and the heat a monitor makes more sense

      @gouldyoldyhd1351 if you have a decent headstrap with a battery in the back, the weight is almos perfectly balanced. You don't have to like VR. That is your choice. But to call it a "gimmick" for totally invalid reasons like the weight on your head and the heat is kinda ridiculously funny. Do you even know how hot it gets in a real racing car? Drivers lose several Kg's in one race. Again, you don't have to replicate everything, but calling conditions closer to real racing as a gimmick is like calling real racing itself a gimmick for the same reasons 🤣

    100% agree with the F1 cam. Every time i see a clip from these so-called esports F1 drivers not driving in the cockpit I'm just baffled. How is that sim racing?!?!?!?!
    Disagree a little on the VR side of things. Problem with VR is the system you need to run it at an equal level of graphic fidelity of a single or triple monitors.
    Lastly arguing about what sim is more realistic or better I agree. It's all about what feels better to you and brings you the most enjoyment. Drive what you like and let everyone else drive what they want and enjoy life!

    4:55 You're... kinda oversimplifying the point of VR. Yes it is immersive, but it gives one huge and undeniable advantage over any monitor setup: *depth perception*. The fact that you can actually gauge distances using your eyes is monumental in racing.
    And it helps to reduce the tendency to "robot drive" - that is, relying solely (or mostly) on visual references for driving. You're fighting on the inside and your precious 100m board is no where to be seen? No worries, you can actually see the distance to the corner and brake accordingly. You can gauge how much 150, 100 and 50m is to the corner simply because of parallax.
    I'll agree VR has its downsides - headsets are clunky, they get hot, they can be nauseating, they're not great for endurance racing and performance can very wildly; but claiming single screen is better than VR is downright ignorant, I'm sorry. Hot take or not.
    If you can't handle the nausea and the decreased comfort from VR and prefer triples - that's fine! It's better to race comfortably than struggle to use VR. But VR does have, at the end of the day, an advantage that no monitor setup can come even close to replicating - depth perception.

    If you actually buy one of those garbage hammock playseat pieces of trash and say its a rig, you deserve the waste of money. They can't even be a good option for non dd wheels, especially not for the price tag that they come with. Idk why anyone would spend 200+ bucks to downgrade from a desk setup to a worse option. They look like a plastic lawn chair and a hammock were thrown together to construct a sim racing abomination built to have as much flex as possible.

Never thought of it that way, but it absolutely makes sense to me, and so did some laps with socks and you’re right! With shoes my heal would lift off the heel rest significantly due to the friction. With socks it felt like I had the same control, but it was less fatiguing and more comfortable because my heel didn’t keep lifting up if that makes sense. 👌

    Hot takes on your hot takes. Please dont kill me for it
    1) Your last point is badly articulated, and you kinda contradict yourself. Saying simulators are realistic enough is not the same ass saying "realism is not that important." It is funny how just before you say we should force cockpit view cuz it is more realistic, then say realism isn't important. I agree at some point. When the sIm is close to realism, it doesn't have to be perfect, but saying that it isn't important is like saying NFS is a good simulator, lol
    2)Theree is no professional that I saw talk about VR who didn't say it is closer to the real thing. If you think screens are better because they are faster, the same could be said about some people racing with controllers
    3) The slipery socks being better than grippiy socks is so obvious, I don't know who would argue against you
    4) The camera choice on e-sports is because it leads to battled closer to real life. Screens don't give you 3d depth, so forcing the cockpit view is not representative. It's kinda like removing the halo bar in the middle on cockpit view when racing on a screen. You might think keeping it is more realistic, but in real life, having two eyes and depth perception makes it almost invisible, just like in VR.

      @@Rhythmic_Hammer The thing that i really hate with iracing is that it's so inconsistent, you have cars that feel amazing and they are so much fun to drive. But then you have cars that are so irritating to drive, you need to drive them so smooth with almost 0 oversteer. GT3 and Indycars were something like that in the past, i am not sure now because i didn't race those cars in a long time. And i know that other sims also have shit cars and nice cars but in my opinion that should not be the case for iracing because of the price that it costs. But of course i get that it's worth getting iracing for many people because it 100% has the best multiplayer experience.
