    Here''s a tip... Fill the bucket with a hose at a fairly high pressure -- dump in first powder, when about 1/3rd full dump in the second, when 2/3rds dump the last... The water splashing around does all the mixing for you!

    This is so funny to see ya showing how to mix it the correct way. Master Blend contacted me a few years back which I done a video on that. Anyway the one teaspoon came from my recommendations so they printed it with out no reference back to me or my channel. Oh well been preaching it for years now that the amount of grams that has been shown for many years was not the correct amount. Just another kick in my butt and failure to my channel. Glad to see a top notch channel like yourself do a video like this to help all the folks that were taught the wrong way. Stay safe and have a great weekend down there!

      All this time (about 2 years) I have been mixing the Masterblend/epsom salts/calcium nitrate according to the instructions on my bag of MB (2tsp of each). I just went to the MB website to see if they have updated the ratios, and sure enough they now recommend 1.5-2tsp epsom salts. When did this happen??? I have been having good results with the original ratios, but can I now expect better results when I do it correctly? I'm really glad I ran into your comment here, thanks for doing that!

    Thanks for the video. I tried growing some of my alfalfa sprouts to the full plant hoping to eventually get some seeds; however the sprouts dried within a week despite the fact that their roots were always in the nutrition medium and they all started looking healthy. I suspect that they "burned" by the amount of fertilizer in the solution. I will try diluting it even more in my next try but I wonder if you have ever tried this and have a special recommendation. Thanks again!

      Wrong nutrient blend, legumes prefer ammonium to nitrate. Ammonium is what their root nodule bacteria produce when field grown.(No nodules in hydroponics so all N must be supplied. The nodules also require extra elements like cobalt not found in normal fertilizers, not even hydro blends)

    HELP!!
    I just found this channel & Subscribed!
    I'm growing (and killing) a few things using this method. Lol
    Strawberries & tomatoes are my concern, as they're growing but not happy.
    Strawberries are sending runners out but mother leaves are dying & burnt on the ends.
    Amish paste & Cherry tomatoes are growing but the limbs are firm & grow straight down (?) and leaves are wilted, but LOTS of blooms & little tomatoes are forming.
    So what am I doing wrong?
    My red Bell pepper is thriving, tons of blooms & fruit, but my Lunchbox pepper stay wilted, light flimsy leaves, I finally potted it in soil & stuck it outdoors & now its perking up.
    Collard greens are growing crazy like the lettuces & spinaches but there's burnt(?) spots on a few leaves. I've never grown greens in my outdoor garden so I don't know what's causing this either.
    LOVE your channel, sure wish I had watched all your videos BEFORE I started this Hydroponics Journey, as I've been stumbling in the dark with only basic information from other channels. Since I'm having failures, I obviously need more info to do it right.
    Thanks in advance to whomever takes the time to respond to my questions, I realize this video is a couple years old so it may not be seen.

    What I do is mix the Masterblend formula in a small cup of water, like those little bathroom cups, plastic ones and stir it with a small stick or wooden dowel. Sometimes it even helps to nuke a larger cup of the water in the microwave for a minute and poor it into the smaller cup so it disolves faster when stirred. Then I poor it in the bucket and stir a few times. Same for the Epsom salt next and then the Calcium Nitrate. 10-10-5 for leafy greens like lettuce and micros and 12-12-6 for vine plants like Tomatoes. Simple. Disolve first in a small cup and stir until disolved and then poor into the bucket. This is by far the most effective way to mix nutrients with absutely no effort and I can't believe nobody does it this way! Lol C'mon people, innovate and don't make things so darn complicated. Love your videos though. :) Good luck with the course.

      Can you please explain how to make 10-10-5 and 12-12-6? I am new to Mining.

    • @coastaldirect
      @coastaldirect 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@francoistran5681 Okay...so You have your Master blend formula that's green color, your epsom salt and your calcium nitrate which are the little pebbles. Always mix your Master blend and calcium nitrate at the same ratio and the Epsom salt is always exactly half. Now for 10-10-5 what that means is that you are going to make a lesser concentrated blend per gallon. It's a 5 gallon ratio so 10 grams master blend for every 5 gallons of nutrients, 10 grams of calcium nitrate and only 5 grams of Epsom salt for 5 gallons. 10-10-5. If you wanted to make 1 gallon instead of 5 it's easy. Just divide the 10-10-5 by 5 gallons and you get your per gallon ratio. In this case it would be 2-2-1. Now if you are growing peppers or tomatoes you probably want to up the concentration to the 12-12-6 ratio for 5 gallons. So for one gallon it would be 2.4 - 2.4 - 1.2 grams. Now always mix your nutrient in a small cup of warm water first and then poor it into the container with at least several cups of water already in it to avoid calcification. Don't mix the nutrients together until they are completely blended in each cup and disolved. You can make any size batch you want as long as you make sure you know how many gallons of nutrients you put in your original jug and you divide it out equality amount the gallons you want to make. If you still have questions let me know. Oh and also follow this order. master blend first, then Epsom salt then calcium nitrate. Don't ever mix your nitrate into the solution before the other two. That's it.

Why does Mike show the cap that says how many cups etc per gallon when that doesn’t apply to these ratios? I'm at a loss. My dad and I built a 10 gallon ebb and flow system, and we can't seem to find the right nutrient mix. What I'm trying to ask is: If you mix the nutrients in a five gallon bucket just like Mike does here, do you further dilute this in more water, and use it as an external nutrient mix? Or do you just make two of these (10 gallons), dump them in as they are, and you're good to go? If this is unclear, I can elaborate. But someone please fill me in here, we're having trouble getting anything to grow!

Preparing 5 gals of solution seems a bit daunting for such a minimal endeavor for one person. My questions are : 1. Can I prepare just a one gal solution or even a 2.5 gal amount. 2. What is the shelf life for solutions ? 1mo, 6 Mos, 1 yr, indefinite ? 3. Can a solution be poured into ice cube molds, frozen, stored in foodsaver vacuum bags for freezer storage ? Does freezing destroy or weaken the solution ? Would be okay with the 5gal so long as I did not lose it to waste by having to throw it out. But a smaller more manageable amount would be preferable. Calcium likes to bond with sulfate to make gypsum which is only soluble in very dilute amounts and is difficult to redissolve so Ca and sulfates should never be mixed in a concentrate, dry or liquid.
      Calcium and Magnesium can, under some conditions, bond with phosphate in a similar insoluble manner so is ideally stored separate, I have had issues with long term storage of granular mixes. The phosphate issue doesn't seem to be a big problem in stock solutions that are slightly acidic because other elements preferentially bond with the phosphate, but I have only tested solutions with modest P ratios.(eg 13-2-13 with Ca and Mg but no sulfates) The granular issue is likely due to micro concentrations.

    • @Metqa
      @Metqa ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I made the mistake of trying to make a concentrate in a small amount of liquid. Once I added the calcium, the liquid turned bright yellow and crystals started to form. No matter how much I shook it, the crystals would not re-dissolve and the plants did NOT like it. I do not recommend making a blend to add all at once and to make sure your solution is dilute enough so that it doesn't want to form crystals and lock up the nutrients from the plants.

I found over a week or two they separate and the calcium nitrate appears to settle at the bottom of my reservoir. It appears to cause nutrient lockout, is this what's taking place?
