Here is a much cheaper idea. You could use a router or a trim router with a pattern bit. Trace the outside of the down spout onto a 3/4 inch piece of plywood. Cut out a whole the shape of the downspout. Now use the router with a pattern bit to cut a groove that matches the shape of the downspout into a piece of PVC board that you can buy at Home Depot. You can get the same result without the need for a CNC machine.

I just grabbed a set with the new endcaps from ya. I'm thinking these can be put inside my windowsill this winter? The old style ones I'll still leave outside. I found a microgreens mix at dollar tree and grew out mibuna and mizuna mustard in my downspouts this year. I hadn't tried those before and the small plants did awesome in the system! I'm so glad you do this!!

I bought some of those end caps and tried to install them with PVC pipe cement. It leaked. So I used Flex Seal to plug up all the leaks and it worked like a champ. Your silicone caulk should work as well. The main problem is positioning the plug so you can apply the caulk or the sealant. I found that super glue did the trick of holding the plug in place while you apply the sealant, and it worked very well. I've been leak-testing four of the plugs for several days and there are no leaks at all. I am moving the downspouts into a front bedroom with a large window with a southern exposure. There is one linked in my Amazon store down in the description of this video. The downspouts are not food grade so I just use clear silicone at the hardware store.
All new smal piece need...maybe use 3d printer plastic. I use 3d plastic to make 1 prototyp...and after i duplicate it more woth slilicone mold. Create a plexiglass box sealed with hot glue, put the piece that you want to reproduce and fill the box with silicone. After that you will have your silicone mold and, with epoxy or other liquid recyling plastic in the mold. You can create any piece under 1 feet. You can reproduce anything. If you want to try i may send you the pro link. Thanks for sharing.😊
just bought my end caps and cut the downspout, but I'm wondering if there's any difference between drilling the holes in the wide side vs the shorter side (effectively a flatter surface area vs taller one)
Dear Mike, maybe you could make the endcaps work on a hinge and a rubber ring that fits the CNC drilled groove. This way u can lock it in place and still easily take them off.
I would just get those caps injection molded if the quantity being sold is high enough to justify the initial mold cost. The caps would then be very fast and cheap to make. 3D printing, routing and DIY thermo molding are great for prototyping, but when you need big volume and low cost then nothing beats injection molding.
Since water is self leveling, why not drill a 1" hole in each end cap and install a plumbing fitting so that a submersible pump from a bucket to the top level and when full it will drain down to the next and so on until all are getting water. You could even use a small solar panel with a submersible pump, so the last trough drains back to the bucket. When the sun goes down, the pump stops, sunrise it starts again. watering made simple.
Hey! These are two baker scaffolds that my wife and I used to use for painting murals. I was going to get rid of them and decided to upcycle them into a shade house. Worked out great.
Just starting to look into hydro growing. So besides the water and nutrients there is no media like rocks or anything for the plants to root to? Just the water? Truth be told I will be growing Marijuana and wondered how they would grow in a downspout Yes I’ll grow food too.

add air stone and air pump to keep nutrient at its best
Do you need food grade silicone caulk to attach the end caps? Where do you find the food grade silicone caulk?
There is one linked in my Amazon store down in the description of this video. The downspouts are not food grade so I just use clear silicone at the hardware store.
Thank you very much!!
What do you think of this...I cant find the site but just by looking at it...
Great video! Do you know if the CNC template for the cap is available?
Email me at keepongrowin1@gmail.com. It is a rough one I did from an image, I am a beginner. You may need to clean it up a bit.
Thank you!
Very cool. No thanks, gets out of the realm of cheap and easy.
Any update on when new endcaps will be in the amazon store?
I am sending a batch in next week.
@@KeepOnGrowin I will go place an order for 4 more sets! Thank you for this channel and all the work you do!!!
just bought my end caps and cut the downspout, but I'm wondering if there's any difference between drilling the holes in the wide side vs the shorter side (effectively a flatter surface area vs taller one)
If you strap it down it ill be ok. Otherwise it will tip easily when the plants start to grow and the nutrients get low.
would the pvc plastic down pipe rectangle fit in a pvc gutter that you can by end caps for ?
no, these only fit the downspout.
You are awesome!
I went to your Etsy shop and there was no gutter downspouts for gardening there. Are you still selling them?
Sorry, no.
If it heat up toxic fumes is it good to plant in
Believe me. If you let it heat up, your plants will not live.
I don't know if you realize or not but then link that you sent for the end caps it says the product is no longer available
Sold out. I just sent some more in this morning, keep an eye on it. I will send more next week.
What is the long white plastic container called? From what kind of shop can I buy it? I have visited many shops but they don't even know what it is.
They are vinyl downspouts. Lowes and Home Depot carry them. I also have them in my Etsy shop, link in the description of the video.
What is the link to order end caps

Dear Mike, maybe you could make the endcaps work on a hinge and a rubber ring that fits the CNC drilled groove. This way u can lock it in place and still easily take them off.
That is a great idea, would take a little work. Thank you.
I would just get those caps injection molded if the quantity being sold is high enough to justify the initial mold cost. The caps would then be very fast and cheap to make. 3D printing, routing and DIY thermo molding are great for prototyping, but when you need big volume and low cost then nothing beats injection molding.
Thank you, I am working with someone now.
Hey Mike, how about printing or routing just the lip and glue them onto (silicon) flat PVC sheets cut to size. Just a thought.
Printing takes way too long for me. If you are just making a few for yourself, that is awesome.
@@KeepOnGrowin do you have an STL file for making the 3D caps? Or know where to download one? Thank you!
Where do I find the end caps and or the kits? I can't find a link anywhere
Here is the endcaps on Amazon: amzn.to/3z0eq9k
and my Etsy shop is here: www.etsy.com/shop/mikevanduzee
No more water pumps to deliver water?
Do you sell these also? Super cool
Yes, the links are all down in the description of the video.
Yes, there are several upgrades you can make. This channel is dedicated to simple and inexpensive for beginners.
does the plastic leach into the food at all?

Hi Mike, just wondering what did you make your gazebos, or pergolas out of? Thanks
Hey! These are two baker scaffolds that my wife and I used to use for painting murals. I was going to get rid of them and decided to upcycle them into a shade house. Worked out great.
@@KeepOnGrowin Thanks, always good to be creative.
Great video thanx & for sharing about Karens project too👍👍👍Wouldn't a cork disk cut out to size & siliconed in work too?
Sounds good, you can try.
I used a Downspout union (which fits the Downspout I purchased; Home de pot) and cut some 2" blue foam insulation , applied silicone and zero leaks!
@@1cnugent1 Awesome! Love it!
@@1cnugent1 hi! Could you please send me some pics? Thanks!
Would boiling water work to bend the ends of those downspouts?
It might but it would be hard to get an even bend, it would take some practice.
So where do you get the end caps?

Just starting to look into hydro growing. So besides the water and nutrients there is no media like rocks or anything for the plants to root to? Just the water?
Truth be told I will be growing Marijuana and wondered how they would grow in a downspout
Yes I’ll grow food too.
Yes, just the nutrient solution. I am not sure how it would work with that but I know several people have asked and tried it out.
I’ve been watching your videos. How may I go about ordering the downspouts made for hydroponics from you?
The links are in the description of the video. Let me know if you have problems finding them.
If I buy the course can I do the work next month? I'm still busy putting up produce right now.
Yes, if you buy it on the Thinkific site, you are in it for good, you can always come back. The membership on the channel has access and that is for viewers that want to support the channel monthly. We may be doing members only livestreams and Q&As also.
Shop says currently unavailable only 4 months in
Yes, sold out twice already. I am making more to send in. You can order from my Etsy shop in the description and I can get it to you quicker.
