Running Game: Consider that Donaldson had a bad shoulder all last season, getting worse along the way, and White just figured things out for the last half of the season, and can now build on that. Passing Game: If you look at the receivers, young receivers had an excellent upward trajectory the second half of the season and have pretty much put on 10 pounds of muscle each in the off season. They look to be significantly better.
Bro you lost me at WVU losing against Pitt, you can't be serious. Josiah Trotter "not mentioned" is gonna be a beast for us at LB, he'll be better than Lee Kpogba.. WVU has a great chance to go to the Big 12 championship
Bartlett never fulfilled his potential. Bradley was better by the end of last year...his first playing the position. He will wreak havoc against the short passing game with his speed and wingspan. Defense overall will be much, much improved.
You forgot one of the more impactful names for LB..... Josiah Trotter. Was projected to start at LB as a true freshmen with a NFL family tree, until he was hurt in spring ball missing the entire freshmen season. Now fully healthy Trotter & Lathan are expected to be that "Thunder & Lightning" duo on defense this year. Your picks are logical with exception with the Pitt game. Pitt's roster is nowhere near WVU's this year, they replaced their OC and have a misalignment of talent for the schemes they want to run, switching from Pro style to Air Raid variant. While I do like their OC hire, itll be a couple years before they get the talent needed to excel at those schemes.. Greene got hurt in the first series of the first qtr last year, thats why the score was close, otherwise it would have been a blow out win. I dont see Pitt's offense being able to keep up with WVU's, I dont even think its a close game. Pitt may get a few "gotchya" plays because they have a new offense with limited film, but I dont think its anywhere near enough. Pitt probably has to show a bit more of their offense than they would like to get a win over Cincy, putting a bit more on film and I think WVU gets a convincing win in Pittsburgh(Where WVU fans will travel well and be 40%-49% or so of the fans). Pitt lost a lot of their best talent on defense in the portal, and I just dont think they added enough on both sides to win this game. I have WVU winning this game WVU's 38-45 to Pitt's 17-26
Pitt is a little bit down right now. With Narduzzi I'm trying to figure out how that offensive change is going to work out. Makes zero sense to me, but pitt is going to have a rough season imo. So no, wvu will not lose to the panthers. I want to see wvu and vt make it to the playoff.
I see West Virginia on an upward trend now. It seems that Neal Brown figured out some things about his team last year. For this year, I guarantee that WV loses games to Penn State and Oklahoma State (Spoiler: I have Oklahoma State in the Big XII Title Game.) However, just about every other game on their schedule is winnable. So yeah, your prediction of 10-2 as a best-case scenario sounds good to me. I see West Virginia finishing as a Top 5 Big XII team.
It's not so much that Coach Brown figured things out as he finally got the players and culture together that he wanted. Yes, he definitely learned things because he works to do so every year, but a lot of it was getting the right things in place. You could see it coming together in 2022, particularly that OSU game in the cold rain with no bowl game on the line, nothing but the will to win.
Why do so many people have us losing to Pitt. Anything can happen in the backyard brawl but I really don’t see that happening. Yes it’s at Pitt but I don’t think people actually watched the game 2 years ago where we had almost as many fans as they did.
@@user-cw5ni9tf2q That's always true, but this team has been carefully assembled. The OSU game at the end of the 2022 season clearly showed they had turned the corner and predicted the 2023 season even though almost everyone in the media and most fans missed the signs. Many still treat 2023 as a fluke, but it wasn't. Talent, depth, and experience are all better this year, as are the culture and chemistry. That will make the difference.
@@WVUFootballGoinDeep yes but the problem is A we still have Neal brown who has been routinely out coached by Gundy Campbell Maguire Etc B we lost a lot of production on defense while I agree some depth pieces can step up Beanie Koba Lockhart And durijaeye will be missed for sure and I’m not convinced these go5 guys can step up until I see them on the field in the game C are schedule is brutal we played 4 go5 teams this year we only get 2 of them this year and one of them is UCF he looks to be the most improved we also play pretty much every other contender in the league not named Utah or West Virginia I agree we will be a good team but I just don’t see us getting more then 9 wins I think 8-4 is much more realistic
@@user-cw5ni9tf2q Actually, the advantage is that we have Coach Brown. He had an almost complete roster last year in terms of culture and ability, and this year it's complete. Lockhart was dropping off last year, while Mulbah was coming on. We gain there. Kpogba is athletic but refused to learn from his numerous mistakes. We gain a lot at LB, and I don't think Kpogba would make the two-deep this year. Durojaiye is good, but Jackson brings experience. Should be better there. Bishop was a part time player who worked hard and got excellent coaching (and Mike Joseph). Hollis comes in with a stronger background and better physical build. In the DB we also add Joseph, Crandall, Tarnue, Garnes, and Fagan. Speed will be better overall. Everyone was talking about the "brutal" schedule this time last year, too. Screw the schedule. WVU is as good as anyone in the conference.
He was the best deep ball passer in the country and that shows in stats . Wvu is a run heavy team and with his legs he is a true threat and his presence opens the field being a dual threat
On passes of 20+ yards (yards in the air), Greene completed about 46%, among the best. If he completed just 10 more of his passes up to the 9 yard point, his numbers there move up to the same range as others. Just 20 additional completions would have put his overall percentage at 60%.
Also I agree with the 8-4 but swap Pitt with Arizona I think wvu will be better then both of them but to quote a random pac 12 fan "Weird shit happens in the dessert"
Key questions- is the rushing game going to be as good right away considering the loss of 2 key O linemen. Qb accuracy, can he get just 5% better ? Can they avoid key injuries at spots where they're young? I've seen so many good seasons derailed by injuries.
@@BJtheMountaineerguy I wouldn’t sleep on them, we barely beat them last year and they were on their third string qb, We also stuggle to play at Texas tech and for whatever reason tech has kinda owned us the last 5+ years. I also think we loose one that we shouldn’t, and that’s that game
65% of Fifita's passes last year were behind the line or no more than 9 yards. Unless he expands his intermediate and long passing game, WVU will eat up the short game, as will several other Big 12 defenses.
I am still wondering where everyone thinks Pen State is all that great??? When was the last time they won the Big 10 conference championship? When was the last time they played for the NC?
