They changed the ingredients in that cake around when they sold the chain. I don't like their cake anymore. The taste is off. I don't even want the free cake slice for my birthday.
The reason I have for disliking Gordon Ramsay is that everything he 'approves' of is "The most Amazing." I don't know if the bar is low or if he's just a goof.

For example, anytime he'd flambé a dish with alcohol, he'd say " the alcohol LITERALLY just burns off". Which is false, because alcohol never completely burns off. Then he'd say something like "fillet mignon is packed with flavors", which is also false. Fillets are very soft, but they don't have much flavor, because it's a non working part of a cows body.
Originally from NW Indiana but now in Boise. Nothing here compares to the Portillo’s experience. The dogs are fabulous. When I go back to Chicago, I go to Portillo’s.
I go to the one in Buena Park, CA religiously. The best hotdog I've ever had. It's so tasty. Italian beef sandwiches are amazing as well. Might have to have it for dinner tonight.
I'm from Chicago born and raised. The hot dogs are the best,the fries are delicious and my favorite the Italian beef sandwich to die for. Now I live in Tampa, Florida so happy when they opened one chain here. I'm getting my groove on its taste the same as when I use to enjoy it back home. PORTILLO,S you need to open more chain food places here in Florida.
One of my father's chief complaints when he retired to Florida was that he couldn't fine any Italian beef sandwiches. He was ecstatic to learn that they are opening up a Portillio's in The Villages.
Dont get the (artificial) neon green relish 🤷🏽♂️. That's some hella food coloring to get it that color. Plus anything more than a teaspoon overwhelms the flavor of the dog. Maybe that's the point.
I work at the one in mishawaka since 2020. youll prolly see me as i stand out (I wear a silly hat for different occaisions, this month i'm the april fool!) it warms my heart seeing the positive response we get, as our foods great.
Portillos has to be the most consistent fast food restaurant EVER. Been to over 5 different locations and it’s the exact same every time. The famous 5 are definitely staples.
Love Portillo's!! I've only ever had the Italian beef and hot dog. They are so good, that I never want to experiment with something else. I had a cake shake once. It was good, but put me into a sugar coma.
If you’re ever in Chicago, you absolutely MUST go to Portillos, it’s SO DELICIOUS!! I can’t go near the city without wanting to go. If you’re going, I recommend the fries, the hot dogs (obviously) and the cake. So delicious. You HAVE to go if you’re in Chicago

I found a Portillo's location in Gurnee when I visited Six Flags Great America in June and had my mind blown by the beef dip and cake shake. I thought it was so good, that I went and got it again a month later when I visited amusement parks in Minnesota. I can only wish that they expand to put a location in Nebraska some day so I don't have to drive as far to find one.
I might also add "Superdog" On Milwaukee Ave. (And elsewhere) Who could resist a hot dog stand with a mated pair of hot dogs on the roof? And the dogs are delicious, made to their own special recipe. To. Die. For.

If I had a big enough stomach and wallet catch me eating the cheese fries, beef and cheddar croissant w/ hot peppers (dipped in the cheese fry cheese), chopped salad no blue cheese, Chicago dog, chocolate shake, chocolate cake (but never the chocolate cake shake) all at once. Though consistency of quality has def gone downhill w/ new owners :(
I went with my grandfather to Portillo's at their first location here in Michigan. It was there that I had my very first Chicago dogs. Absolutely delicious!

Some places will substitute extra vegetables for the hot dog. Some places will let you get the spicy pickled vegetables, grilled peppers, and grilled onions on the Italian Beef Sandwich bread. You pay the same prices, but get lots of vegetables and no meat.
As much as I love Portillos, the hot dog isn’t that special. You could literally get a dog like that anywhere in Chicago. That being said, their food is fantastic.
To be honest you can get this exact dog anywhere that sells Vienna Beef. That being said... It's still one of my favorite hot dogs I've ever had. Especially with sauerkraut, fries dipped in thousand island.

Even friends of mine from New York love Pizzeria Regina's but you have to get it from the original place from the almost two hundred year old brick-oven. I used to live with a woman named Audrey and one of my friends came over and they were talking about the Taste of Chicago now that's an event that I would love to go to!
I worked for portillo's in 1980 shortly after getting out of the military, in Bolingbrook ill. I still enjoy their food today! The beef combo with sweet peppers, a couple tamales, LG coke ez ice, fries. Also love the hot dogs and especially their chili dogs! Cannot ever leave without getting their strawberry short cake! Damn I'm hungry now!
Your opinion SUCKS instead. Food is good there, been eating there for 35 years. Gene and Jude is good too, but I wouldn't say better. Matter of personal taste. Tastes the same during those 35 years.

Portillos is only famous in the suburbs. There are a million small joints in the city that are way more authentic and more affordable.
