      I used the all purpose cleaner on the chrome in my shower and even gave it 10 min ‘dwell time’ , but the cloudy water spots remain . It dingifies(maybe a made -up word) the whole look . How to shine bathroom hardware , kitchen gooseneck faucets and even in door refrigerator water/ice dispensers they get spotted and generally dirty looking . I just want things to glimmer and shine 🤩

    I've used mostly DIY cleaners for the past few years and I see no reason to change that. It saves me money, is more eco friendly and since I get the ingredients I use in bulk, I'm never without a cleaning product. I 100% recommend doing it, if you can. 😊

    I made all of these cleaners a couple of weeks ago and they are all amazing. I would also like to add a recipe that I found for a spray deodorizer. 2 ounces of water 1 ounce of rubbing alcohol 30 drops of your favourite essential oil(I actually did 20 drops of peppermint and 10 drops of vanilla extract and it is amazing makes my house smell like chocolate mint ice cream). The all purpose cleaner is definitely the one I use the most and the one for vinyl flooring because I have vinyl plank in my kitchen and bathroom.

    Maybe I just have a sensitive nose but I detest the odor of vinegar and essential oils cannot disguise it. I wish I could make my own cleaners but so far, no go!! In the meanwhile I do limit the number & type of cleaners I use. Method is particularly good & I can get away with just a few of them. I buy cleaners in large jugs & just refill the squirty bottles; not perfect but not too bad either.

      Have you tried different types of vinegar as each smells differently. I sometimes use apple cider, or distilled white vinegar as, you are right, malt vinegar is over powering. Also keep the amount of vinegar very low. The cleaning often comes from water and a drop of soap together with a cloth which will Remove anything undesirable. The house needn't smell of vinegar - which is what happened to me when I first started out.

    • @cleanmyspace

      I hear you, Anne. The smell of vinegar is STRONG. It definitely does take some getting used too so to start, try cleaning with a face mask on (I mean, most of us have plenty of these around now a days).

    I like using DIY cleaners, except when it comes to the toilet. The toilet just gives me the heebiejeebies 😄 The absolute best DIY cleaner I've ever used....a few drops of Dawn dish soap, sprinkle of baking soda, and splash of water in the tub. Seriously, it cuts through everything and works a million times better than any store bought cleaner I've tried. I don't know why I put off trying it for so long. So easy and cheap!

    I make a lot of our households cleaners, but some in my household still insist on buying them. They have said they can't tell the difference, other than fragrance, so I'm not sure why this is. Set in their ways I guess.🤷🏾‍♀️ We will be moving to a house with hardwood floors so I'll be trying that recipe soon.

    Melissa, what’s a good recipe for an antibacterial cleaner for the bathroom toilet and the floor around it? I have grandsons. 😩🙄

    • @eileenfb1948
      @eileenfb1948 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To remove bacteria we need to remove oils and grease - yes they build up in the toilet too. I use the toilet brush first so I can remove any mineral build up from the water. Then use any kind of cleaner you prefer such as sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) - vinegar kills bacteria because of the low acid - a little spritzed around the bowl at the very end of cleaning. I use only one commercial product in my home - now and again - Ecover toilet cleaner. I hate the smell. Anything which removes grease will also remove the bacteria along with it.

    • @cleanmyspace
      @cleanmyspace  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simple works best for keeping toilets clean, Julie. Using household items like hydrogen peroxide and essential oils will help flush away (had to!) bacteria and odors, while baking soda and hydrogen peroxide are great on stains.

    Have your mop and use it weekly. It’s great! Bought your book 3 years ago to clean my house more efficiently and in less time. Since that time use your DIY homemade cleaners listed in the book and love them. They work well and cost much less than what one buys in the store. The added bonus for people who have allergies is you don’t cough a lot due to the chemicals in store bought cleansers.

    I've tried so many glass cleaners. "Streak free!" Yeah, right. Very streaky.
    I don't have microfiber cloths. I got rid of them. I dislike them for many reasons.
    I use old washcloths for cleaning, and I didn't have high hopes for Melissa's glass cleaner recipe, but I gave it a try.
    It looked streaky while I was doing it, so I was prepared to be disappointed. I went back over it with a dry washcloth.
    I am absolutely shocked. My bathroom mirror is cleaner than it's ever been, and NO fogginess or streaks!
    I keep going in there just to look at it lol.

And I don't have newspapers for that old school hack. This is an absolute game changer

    Since I've started watching your channel, I definitely make more of my own DIY, but every once in awhile, especially for a dirty, big job, such as when we moved in our new house last year, I still pick up a few from the store, where I'm drawn to foamy action cleaners. But in my multi-purpose, besides water & vinegar- I also add approx 2 tbsp of rubbing alcohol & peroxide, with a splash of Dawn. Is that not a good multi-purpose? Because I really thought I got that recipe from you?! Maybe not? Lol And I use baking soda on solo many items! I love it, and my hubby loves it bc it's so cheap! I still just have 2 major problem areas, one I'm afraid could be affecting my health. Would love to email or snail-mail you pictures & get your advice. Cannot take any chances with my health! Also, I hear you mention Castille soap? What exactly is that & what do you use it for? Would love to get your full list but unfortunately no computer, no printer......😕

    Thanks so much, I love your videos and I have your book :-)
    I have a silly off-the-wall question... I have the audiobook of another house cleaning expert, and when she describes cleaning mirrors, she says to spray on the cleanser and then "zee" your way down the mirror. She and I are both Americans, and therefore pronounce the last letter of the alphabet "zee" rather than "zed" like the rest of the world does, lol. (BTW, having taken French in grade school, I was aware of the word zed, I just didn't know that Canadians pronounced zee as zed, as French people do)
    So on to my ridiculous question... If you, Melissa, were to describe the motion of wiping a mirror in a zigzag pattern, but as a letter z or zed, Rather than an S pattern, would you say to Zed down the mirror?
    Forgive me for my ridiculous question! It has been nagging at me for a couple years now and I had no idea how it was ever going to know the answer! Lol!!

    • @cleanmyspace
      @cleanmyspace  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm! I think to avoid 'localizing' the language, I would stick with saying to use a 'zigzag' or 's' pattern, that way there's no confusion 😀

    I'm unable to use chemical cleaners as I've developed sensitive airways over time. I start coughing & sneezing as soon as I start spraying. Same with white vinegar & eucalyptus oil. Years of repeated use has caused this issue & that's why I now prefer to use Nue Clean for all my cleaning. Odourless, yet tough enough to remove all dirt, soap scum & germs from most surfaces, only using water, salt & a drop of white vinegar.
    Unfortunately, these products are no longer available to buy, but I made sure I bought enough products to keep me cleaning for at least another 6 years.
    However, I still love the fragrance of essential oils. So calming & soothing🥰

    I have been using diy cleaners for about a decade. I also use plain white vinegar on my washing machine's liquid fabric softener dispenser. It is an amazing fabric softener and non toxic

    I can't stand the taste or the smell of vinegar which seems to be a key ingredient.
    I got really sick a couple of years ago & again in February which the first sickness altered my sense of smell-nothing has changed. There is a certain chemical I guess that is in almost everything I had to change - hair products, laundry detergent, air fresheners, candles, shampoos, cleaners, perfumes & body sprays. The only way I can describe it is like a rancid stale tobacco smell. Things that used to smell so nice are now ruined by that one "common chemical thing" in all stuff. Even my taste is "off". I had found Mr. Clean moonlight breeze which was tolerable- It didn't have that certain smell. Now I can't find it anywhere and i'm almost out. I do use Dawn dish soap. It's the only brand I use. Can I do anything with that?

    • @eileenfb1948
      @eileenfb1948 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When grease and grime are being removed by the mop then the bacteria go too. A clean floor doesn't benefit from disinfectant. Should there be a couple of virus or bacteria they have nothing to live on and no hiding place so they die.

    • @cleanmyspace
      @cleanmyspace  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree with Eileen below, floors shouldn't need a thorough disinfect but you can always dilute some vinegar in warm water, which is a natural disinfectant.

    I only buy toilet bowl cleaner and occasional convenience products. I do also still buy laundry detergent, although I've replaced my fabric softener with white vinegar. Other than that, everything is in a spray bottle. I probably could do DIY toilet bowl cleaner, but I just find that it requires a lot more vigorous scrubbing and overall time, and to me it is not worth it, since the store bought cleaners do everything for me. After letting it sit for a while, I only have to swirl the brush around a bit to knock everything out from under the rim and the sides of the bowl, flush, and then it's done.

However, now 😢not so keen on working in the rain

    Been making my own cleaning products for about 7 years. I make everything but laundry soap. Also make all our body care products too.
    Quick note about the window cleaner, while EOs are optional most of the time, they are needed for glass. Glass is full of tiny holes and the water vinegar can get stuck in those tiny holes, the eos actually stop that from happening.

So the problem that I have is how do you get the animal hair out of the microfiber cloth and stuff I would hate to purchase those and then turn around and not keep them because the amount of animal hair in them after cleaning.

    Please be careful with EO's. Know your allergies. Also be careful of the amount. Some EO's can strip wood. All EO's are not the same when it comes to strength.
