@Master of Music I'm a bass singer too but I don't think Katie is. Bass is the lowest male voice. The lowest female voice is alto, which is the more correct term for Katie's voice type
@Master of Music didn't know it was the same for both genders as far as barbershop goes but that does make a lot of sense. Guess I'm more used to singing with choirs rather than a quartet, where altos and basses r split between genders (girls/younger boys being altos and boys being basses).
The use of pedal tones in this arrangement is haunting. I was just playing this on my work computer and the entire office just stopped. It was surreal.
Using Octavian rather than harmonic layering, actually works really well with this song. I think if harmonic structure was worked out I don't think it would have worked as well, as you would have lost the main lead line melody, which can often time be overshadowed by harmonics, even if there was a strong root note, and a harmonies were in the same key it still wouldn't have worked as well as the Octavian pedals. You are so right.
I don't normally comment. I don't normally get sentimental and emotional, but I wanted to thank you wholeheartedly for this beautiful performance. My grandfather passed away this last week and we buried him this morning and this was one of only two songs that he requested be sung at the ceremony. As the congregation sang, I could only think of this performance, knowing that I played it for him before he passed and knowing how much he really loved it. There will always be a grandpa-sized hole in my heart. I have two now, one for each side. But so long as I live, listening to this will bring me peace and warmth and love that I know he would have wanted me to feel. Thank you so much for this. Words can't express how much it means.
This is my number one favorite hymn, of all time. I’m listening to this in quarantine, covered in chills and crying just a little bit. You ladies really knocked it out of the park, I hope you get to hear every single day how you move people with your music!! Take care!!
Simply amazing. Best rendition I have ever heard. Your collective voice is so beautiful. To this day, it still brings a tear to my eye when I hear this...This was performed at my dad's military funeral....
Your ability to sing so symbiotically in unison is astonishing. Truly a quartet who not only sing well together, but understand each others' harmonics. Absolutely wonderful.
They did some VERY creative "sitting" on Amanda's floor. This is an excellent arrangement, really well performed. For a minute you'll wonder what the Bass is doing there at the back and then she really shows us how to shine through - in a well balanced way with the others. Excellent stuff!
I have never heard this beautiful hymn song this way. Words can not express the way these ladies have moved me. Thank you for starting my day In prays of God this way.
Sitting here listening to songs which a young member in our Church who just got back from Church camp, wanted me to hear after a typical Monday, Monday at work. He asked me if I knew a barbershop version of "How Great Thou Art". I remembered this GQ arrangement which they did this past June for our annual show. These ladies are fantastic, and very, very funny, but when they sang this song, and listening to it here again. I lean back in my chair, and the stress just melts away. I just wanted to share this song with my FB friends, and say "Thank you ladies".
It doesn't matter how many times I listen to it, this just blows me away. I don't think I've ever heard a more perfectly matched set of voices that blend together so seamlessly. Couple that with a truly haunting, evocative arrangement and the result is nothing short of awesome (as in producing complete awe in this viewer). Well done, ladies. I hope someday you'll post some new content on your TH-cam page. Would love to hear some more of your amazing talent showcased here.
these young woman are a Blessing!! to have found each other and there voices are such a wonderful blend. I hope they continue to share their talent with the world.
UNREAL. I've been a Sweet Adeline for over 20 years, and I can say I've not seen many as talented as you. Keep up the incredible harmony and wonderful example of what our organization is.
Hey Brandy, how are these championship quartets assembled? All of the singers need to be first class, and they cannot be found just standing on every street corner. It's not enough to find 4 of the best, they also need to be living in the same area so they can practice together.
Wow, WOW!! I've been around the music business for a while and...WOW! You girls have such a gift, thanks for sharing it and making so many people smile. Keep it up.
Please come to Australia!! I'm studying jazz voice at Melbourne University and you are my favourite vocal quartet to listen to! So in tune and you all have such beautiful tone, ah in love !!!
This arrangement would be great for someone like me, a former S.A., who wants to have barbershop harmony style arrangements for the hymns to be played at my visitation/memorial service.
For those believers also Sci-Fi nerds, the lady second from the right (Katie?) - I think she looks like a young Captain Katherine Janeway from Star Trek Voyager :)
the bass lady is OUTSTANDING.
They all are. Katie Mac gets an arrangement that shows her great ability.
Technically Alto is more correct for a girl

@@eljordinio7647 What about contralto, like this gal here, or Karen Carpenter

+Justin Raines I really liked that, as it reminded me of the Byzantine drone notes at the basilica

What an amazing Bass singer. I am a bit biased as I am a Bass in a Barbershop chorus
Seems like God blessed you and your performance, this is too beautiful to have come from human beings alone.
Man, the amount of fullness in that alto's low notes is phenomenal!
She is a bass. Four part barbershop follows the traditional men’s parts; tenor, lead, baritone and bass.
The best rendition of this classic hymn.
If you like these harmonies for kindergarten.
What amazing breath control that bass singer has. I also am a bass in a barbershop chorus here in NZ
just played it again . got tears in my eyes . WOW as an ex Gold Medallist quartet tenor from the 80s that is awesome ! love you girls xx
I want this to be played at my funeral.
Katie Mac, the bass, sings tenudo, the original tenor part; and, sings it beautifully.
Technically she's an alto. Basically the same as bass, but the female counterpart
Of course, thank you.
This is my number one favorite hymn, of all time. I’m listening to this in quarantine, covered in chills and crying just a little bit. You ladies really knocked it out of the park, I hope you get to hear every single day how you move people with your music!! Take care!!
Wow the third women's voice is is excellent!! They are all good, but, wow.
OMG!👏👏👏These Girls are Sooooo Amazing!👍💓💓💓💓

Grandpa and I would sing together as he lay on his death bed. He loved to sing this song, also In The Garden.
