I'm back with another Depeche Mode reaction, and this time we go back to their 1986 masterpiece of an album, Black Celebration, for the emotional and engaging "Here Is the House." Indeed, as you'll see, the lyrics in this one tenderly address intimate and interpersonal themes between partners and lovers, but they also made me consider emotional memories and experiences beyond the scope of the specific lines. So join me as we listen to another though-provoking classic from the one and only Depeche Mode. Cheers!

The house (flat) where my mom had moved to after divorcing my dad, she had made it a home. Then sadly she passed away (in 2011). A few days later I visited the flat to pick up some of her belongings, and not only her body had left but so had her soul, the place felt as cold as a drafty church. Awful feeling. So to me this song is also about the love of a mother to her children. Whenever we spent time together it was always comforting. Whenever Dave and Martin sing together in a song, magic happens. This song always cheers me up even though it reminds me of how much I miss her.

I love your interpretation of this song, and WOW, I had the same experience as you... when I first got into Depeche and particularly this song, I was breaking up with a GF and moving out of the apartment we shared and this song made me think about this cute happy home we had and how this song represented that emotion. The synth sounds used in this song fit the emotional content perfectly!
Ha, perceptive minds think alike (I'm paraphrasing here, lol). But yeah, I actually hadn't thought about that situation with my ex for a couple years when I did this video, so it brought back memories in the moment of shooting too. The power of music and lyrics!
Here is the House really should have been a single. I was hoping they would release it as one back in the day but sadly not. Would have loved one of their excellent 12" versions back then.

Granted, I don't have any A Flock of Seagulls releases (though I've always loved "I Ran"), so I'd love to do that, but it may take me some time (as I react to physical media and digital tracks on my page ... but not TH-cam videos, at least not yet). This is a beautiful song. When Martin nails it (Any Second Now, Home, etc) he is excellent. shame he had to make stuff like It Doesn't Matter Two!

Admittedly, I've never actually heard it, but you're the third person to mention his work outside Depeche Mode in one of my videos, so clearly I need to do a deep-dive on Recoil. Hopefully I can get some of the material soon!
