    Fun fact: the sacred beasts get destroyed an ammount of times that fit with each one of the school's dorms. Uria gets destroyed 3 times so third rate, Hamon twice so second rate, and then Raviel gets destroyed once at the end of the duel so he is Obelisk rate. Not sure if that was done on purpose.

    I’d like to push for Kaiba vs Zigfried, Kaiba’s best duel in the series. Zigfried played quite cautiously throughout the duel, often raising his life points at cost, while Kaiba played quite a few risks that end up paying off (probably symbolic of their businesses). There was a misplay by Kagemaru in his first turn. If he set Jar of Greed facedown and activated it during Jaden’s turn, he would have drawn Chain Burst Early. This would allow him to draw one card deeper in his deck throughout the duel. It would also power up Uria to 4K immediately and shut down Tempest from attacking, leaving Kagemaru at full LP, and in control of the duel. One card can make all the difference.

    Its wild that Jar of Greed , ONE CARD, basically was the thing that cost Kagemaru the Duel.
    If he had set it on his first turn and activated it first chance he got, he would have gotten the perfect combo , controlled the duel and ended Jaden before he even got the chance to make a comeback.
    Granted, its not neccesarily a *missplay* per say since he probably wanted a safety net for Uria and he had no way of knowing the cards he'd draw later in the duel. But its still crazy that *one* card lost him the Duel.

    • @janehrahan5116
      @janehrahan5116 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah. It's not a missplay. Assuming he had 10 traps and was playing around removal mathematically if Jaiden has removal and he sets jar he outright loses 2/3 games as he loses the sacred beast, can't get the op field spell running ext.

    • @osaka_phong
      @osaka_phong ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Assuming the writers were not in a hurry writing this duel, maybe what happens is that Kagemaru is not really a duelist, so he will naturally missplay a lot. If the sacred beasts where in hands of a competent duelist, Jaden would have lost in kagemaru's 2nd turn. All what kagemaru had to do was in his first turn also set jar of greed, tribute it instead of mispolymerization. Use mispoly to bounce Jaden's Tempest next turn, and without anything to protect Jaden and uria with 4000 ATK, it would have been game. Kagemaru would have won easily.

      Not really. If he had set jar of greed he wouldn't have had a trap card in hand to special uria back. To be fair, I wouldn't call not putting down Jar of Greed a misplay per say since he had no clue what else he would draw, so it makes sense that he wanted a safety net for Uria in case Jaden pulled smth out of his arse which tbf ended up happening.
      Still, its wild that if he *had* done, he probably would have won as he would have one more trap in the GY, drawn Hamon a turn earlier and would have completely controlled the duel and ended Jaden before he got Flute of Summoning Kuriboh.

    Considering how the Sacred Beasts are DIVINE/Divine-Beast in the anime, and recalling the inconsistencies of the Egyptian God Cards' effects, I'd be down for it being a matter of "user interpretation" for Uria's inconsistency.
    Your theory for the EGC effects a few years ago was that they were "incomplete" and "completed by their users", who's interpretation of the flavour text mascaraing as effect text was what defined their exact effects, e.g. Obelisk's "The opponent will be damaged" becoming 4000 effect damage in Kaiba's hands.
    With the anime Sacred Beasts also being Divines, I could see there being an element of this at play. It's not necessary but it would conveniently explain things like Kagemaru's Uria destroying all traps, but only traps, while Yubel's destroys both spells & traps, but one at a time. Yubel's Uria only growing with continuous traps in grave compared to Kagemaru's version working with any kind of trap would also fit into this.

  • @Dgamer-kq5kt
    @Dgamer-kq5kt ปีที่แล้ว +5

    They should’ve let Uria in the TCG/OCG Be special summoned by sending continuous traps on your field, regardless of its position to make it easier to summon.
    They could’ve added its anime effect to resurrect itself but probably by banishing a trap from his GY instead of discarding a trap.

Now granted most of the traps he plays this duel in the context of the episode are just there for flavor, they only exist to summon and re-summon Uria. It could be something similar to Marik with his Slifer deck in that he just wants to overpower through sheer force. Before Yugi's infinite draw play I believe Marik had 12 cards in hand. If none of those were a summonable monster or a monster destroyer then his deck must be awful outside of his God combo. Most likely he COULD have ended Yugi earlier, but he just wanted him to squirm helplessly against the inevitable by only relying on Slifer and his increasing attack points.

    On Uria getting retconned with its real-life effect; this actually happens a decent bit in the GX anime. The anime writers make a new card, but being conscious of the bandits and the real-life game's mechanics, will often make it only as powerful as it needs to be for that duel's specific play-by-play, or add activation requirements that would make it impractical in the real world. Yet due to power creep or the real-world designers having a better handle on play testing before a new set, they would often add an extra effect. Uria is one such example, releasing in Japan just three-and-a-half months after this episode. Uria just caught you off guard because unlike the examples I list below, it's anime card wiki page wasn't split into two separate versions. Guess no contributor's caught that!
    Sometimes the reverse happens, like with Ancient Gear Golem's Normal Summoning-only restriction that wasn't in the anime at first (though it took until Season 2 for the update to be definitive in the anime). Or Future Fusion switching from its original instant-summon-yet-tribute-lock-and-equip-destruction-downside to the familiar real-life pre-errata effect. The anime writers largely only avoid these retcons when they know the card will be recurring and need its anime effect, like Skyscraper's two-way ATK boost or Bubbleman only needing your field to be empty (man, Jaden would have been screwed in so many duels if he had to have an empty hand for that!
    More notably, in Duel Monsters, going into Season 4/the Doma arc, the writers changed virtually every card they didn't need to keep the original effect of to match the real-world effect (also notable for the cards in the Japanese now matching the newer Series 3 layout we in the West know).

    Cause there is one moment that really bugged me, Somewhere round the mid point in there duel Zone has 3 timelords on his field, including Zaphion which has the ability to get rid of one of Yusei’s key cards, Scrap iron scarecrow.
    So he declares an attack with Zaphion but for some reason tells Yusei exactly what she does so he can negate the attack with scrap iron scarecrow, this would be fine if it wasn’t for later in the duel when Yusei has a realisation that he should save scrap iron scarecrow till the second attack
    So basically if Zone hadn’t of told Yusei what Zaphion did, he wouldn’t have scrap iron Scarecrow to negate attack of Sandaion the Timelord later in the duel, meaning he would of taken 4k damage and could of potentially lost the duel
    EDIT: Just realised that Yusei had Synchro keeper but in hindsight it changes nothing since he would of had to use it to negate the effect damage of Raphion, otherwise he would of lost

You can discard this card to target one monster you control; multiply that monster's attack by the number of monsters your opponent controls, until the end of the turn. Considering Yusei's, Yusaku's and Luke's infamous indefatigability, perhaps evaluate more duels with them, particularly ones where Yusaku actually drew.

      Correction: the duels where PM's opponents forced the draw to not lose

    Because the description says "used" or "resolved" I think it has to be an effect.
    It can't be a monster per se, but it could become an Effect monster, use the effect for the turn, and then goes back to its original card.

    I love that this dude came back in season 4 to jaden graduation. Nice to see him turn a new leaf

    With the way cards appear and disappear in the anime. I am surprised they didn't stick in a card with the effect "you win the duel"

    What do you think of Sho vs Hell Kaiser, did Sho have a chance of defeating his brother?
    Should I be asking questions with obvious answers?

    This was an interesting Duel, yu-gi-oh gx episodes 142-143, Supreme King Judai vs Austin O'Brien, the duel ends with a DRAW. But I wonder, did either The Supreme kIng or O'Brien had any opportunities for victory?

    In the real world Uriah would have won the duel.

    I think the reason about Uria effect change is due to private knowledge. If the opponent sets a spell, and Uria effect isn't allowed to activate, it's user will know the facedown is a spell. You isn't suppose to know what's facedown till it is flipped face up, and Uria unable to destroy a facedown spell will give basically public knowledge. So, even if the set card is a known spell, they changed it to destroy both spell and trap cards, as long as they're facedown.

    The fact that they gave Jaden Atem-like power while he was fighting the sacred beasts, who are GX’s god cards, which were Atem’s strongest monsters is kinda funny to me

      Yea, Sabatiel was basically “top deck whatever card you want” which is basically the power Atem has.

      @@wititorac not even that, the fact that it stays in your hand after it has been used if far broken than atem’s power, but it’s only for 3 turns while atem’s was whenever he needed it

      @@wititorac Yami’s ability is top decking
      Sabatiel is literally:
      Add whatever card you want from your deck to your hand up to three times total, not once per turn.

    If Kagemaru had used Uria special ability every turn he would have had a big advantage
