DID WE FALL FOR THE RENTAL SCOOTER SCAM? | THAILAND | IS IT THE BEST/SAFE PLACE TO RENT A MOTORBIKE?

- We rented a scooter - moped (Honda Click 125) from POP motorbike rentals for almost 3 months whilst we stayed in Chiang Mai (Thailand). We took this scooter EVERYWHERE!!!, we went all around northern Thailand, putting almost 10,000 Km on the clock!!. When we returned the scooter we decided to film the whole thing to see if they would try any tricks to scam us..... wether that would be for damage that we did not do!.....additional mileage....or for any other possible reason! Keeping in mind they already had our 3,000 Baht (£75) deposit....... Did we.... or didn't we.... GET SCAMMED???........
You rarely see any kind of scam here in Chiang Mai, but yes, important to take photos beforehand, just in case. :)
Yes we always take photos just in case! You never know 😂 have you had any bad experiences in Asia with bikes?
@LovetravelCQ never had an issue, personally. I own my own bikes, but have rented here and there over the years and always been no issues when returning.

@LovetravelCQ surprised about that. Some of the stories may be from the south or they really were in the wrong. Rarely any stories up here.

Not a problem at all! I wasn't sure if we would get stung... But thankfully not! I didn't see any with side carts. Just scooters & big bikes also cars
Can I rent a 50cc with a regular driver's license or do you need a motorcycle license.
It probably help that you were taping her so she felt a little hesitant to charge you extra.
You can pretty much rent any size scooter 50-250 on a normal drivers license, they are not too strict on that. But make sure you get an international driver’s licence 🪪 else the police will have a great time giving you 500 baht fines 😂🤙🏽

If I leave my passport, it will be a photocopy. As there ain't no way, I'm leaving my original copy!

Am I wrong.................or is renting a scooter almost as much as renting a car there?
Nope I’m peak season it’s about $9 per day but in low season we had one for $5 per day 😁🙌🏽
That older Thai grandma sure took her sweet time finding your invoice, felt like 5 hours passed haha. Btw, Pattaya and Phuket motor rental places will try to scam you so always take videos and pictures. Call the police if you think you are getting scammed!
