Hi Joel, Great turorials. You are brilliant. I do have a question, if I may: I have icloud contacts but have some contacts on my gmail that were created just with an email. How can I merge that info to my icloud contacts? Secondly, can I export my icloud contacts to gmail and back again to have the info in both places (I have a lot more icloud contacts than gmail contacts, but would love to have the info in both accounts. TIA
Thank you so much @Catarina Fernandes V. Pires for the kind words! I have not come across any merge tools between two separate accounts like Gmail or iCloud...My best advice would be to take your contacts out of the location and just import into the other location. You need to get them in one same location before you can merge and combine together. Once you have all the contacts in one centralized location, the merge or find duplicate options will differ between services ie: iCloud vs Microsoft vs Google. You may have to do some manual work to get 100% merged together, but first step is to get them all together in one location. Probably not the best answer, or perhaps someone else can add to the conversation! I hope that helps! If you haven’t already, please support me by subscribing! It helps more than you know and so greatly appreciated! Also if you know someone who may benefit from this video, feel free to share it along!
I appreciate the kind words @Jose Antonio Pinto! Honestly there's probably not a ton of options on the PC that i'm aware of to get rid of iCloud duplicates. On the Mac they have the App called Contacts which has the merge/duplicates feature. I would imagine that Microsoft Outlook has a feature for duplicate contacts. I found an article for you related to that. If you're able to add your iCloud account into Outlook, if you have that, it may help. Microsoft Support - Resolve or delete duplicate contacts support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/resolve-or-delete-duplicate-contacts-0fa9c0a0-499a-48ab-b818-4e6463ccb9fa Google also has an excellent feature for merging duplicate contacts, but again it requires users to have a google account. iCloud for sure is a bit behind in it's management of content compared to other companies. Question. Thank you so much!!! I went through these steps gmail on my computer and was able to finally import my contacts from my phone and edit a few as well. My problem is if I use my iPad and go to gmail contacts to edit them, it just goes back to before editing, as if the sync works only one way from computer to iPad? Does it mean I can edit only on my computer?
Hi @BlablaBerryBlue, I'm so happy this was able to help you! Are you using a specific Google Contacts App on your iPad? Make sure that on you are accessing your contacts within all the same app/location. For example, on a Mac, iPhone and iPad, the native app is the Apple "Contacts" app. In order to have your "Gmail" contacts show up here, you need to Add your Google Gmail account into the main settings of each device and make sure "contacts" are turned on. Also verify that contacts are not hidden within the Contacts app when you're trying to view them. If all is setup correctly, you should be able to freely edit on any device in any location and it will update everywhere. I hope that helps! Thanks so much for watching! I am a recent "Apple inductee" after using outlook for 20 years. Now that I'm in the Apple ecosystem I'm struggling with easily editing my 4000+ contacts. I used to be able to do a list view in outlook and just tab down fields to change/update. I can export to CSV/Excel to change data but lose images. Any way to do mass editing w/o losing images? I love the ecosystem but am frustrated with what would seem simple tasks. Thanks for all your help. Yours in Service, Curtis
I totally agree with the lack of features in the Contacts App on the Mac @Curtis Matthes! It for sure doesn't compare to Outlook...Contacts for sure seems to be simplified and I don't think has had much changes to the App since I've been a Mac user! I'll just say there's lots of room for improvements from Apple on this App... Have you tried using Outlook on the Mac to see if it's a bit more robust? I know that I have used my Google account for importing and exporting sometimes because even their cloud platform seemed to have more options than the Mac App... Not the best answer, but I hope that helps! Thanks so much for watching! If you haven’t already, please support me by subscribing! It helps more than you know and is greatly appreciated! Hi @Nitish Kant! You should be able to accomplish that by logging into a web browser and exporting and importing. The merge for duplicates is not a good idea as it only checks through first name and last name. The model name would be different and first and last name could be the same. How to sync between iCloud and google?
Hi @Vishal Sheth! My experience has been where it pops up the option to choose the old card, new card, and merge both together. So you have full control to do it or not. But I agree, it is not always 100% perfect! So iCloud and Google are two different services...you wouldn't necessarily sync them together. You would just add those two accounts to whatever devices you have to access the information.
Hey @Papu arenas! So Outlook is just an email management tool where you can add multiple email accounts like gmail, live, hotmail, yahoo, etc into the software to manage. The main question really is what is the primary account that you use for your contacts? Hi Joel, Unfortunately you did not cover how to import a csv. I think why.... because it's not working. Export form excel or numbers to csv files are not importable in contacts. After 2 days trying everything I found myself a working method. Download a trial of a CRM application. Upload your excel containing your contacts you want to import in contacts. Then export from the com application a csv file. Then you are able to import without the irritating error message of "The selected file does not appear to be a valid comma separated values (csv) file or a valid tab delimited file. Choose a different file."
